00:01Also on Monday, the United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting requested by Venezuela following the attack perpetrated by U.S. military forces against the sovereignty of the Bolivarian territory on January 3rd and also the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro Moros and the first combatant Celia Flores.
00:21At the Security Council meeting, representatives of the international community denounced the United States' illegal actions as a direct threat to world peace and security.
00:30In this scenario, several countries have condemned the military operation against Venezuela and described it as a blatant use of force that violates the regulations established by international law.
00:42The United Nations meeting took place against the backdrop of international protests demanding the release of President Nicolás Maduro and first combatant Celia Flores, as well as an end to the escalation of interferential aggressions that the U.S. government has sustained against the Latin American and Caribbean region.
01:01In this context, the representative of Venezuela, Samuel Moncada, reaffirmed that the United States is moving forward with a violation of international law and the right to sovereignty of peoples.
01:18Venezuela appears before this council today from a deep conviction that the international peace can only be sustained if international law is respected, without the sections, without double standards, and without selective interpretations.
01:36The events of January 3rd constitute a flagrant violation of the character of the United Nations by the United States government, in particular.
01:44The violation of the principle of equality of states, the violation of the absolute provision of the use of threats or force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, as enshrined in Article 2, No. 4 of the Charter, and the violation of the duty to resolve disputing by peaceful means.
02:06These acts also seriously violates the Geneva Conventions and their protocol, as indiscriminate attacks has been carried out against the civilian population and civilian targets.
02:20International human rights law has also been violated, particularly the right to life, personal integrity and security.
02:28Also, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Jen Shuang, rejected the United States' aggression against Venezuela and demanded that President Donald Trump comply with international law.
02:43Internationally, China is also strongly opposed and the international community has also expressed its deep concern and strong condemnation.
02:51We urge the United States to hear the overwhelming call from the international community to comply with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter,
03:02to stop interfering in the sovereignty and security of other states, to put an end to this cutting-off of the Venezuelan government,
03:10and to find political solutions through dialogue and negotiation.
03:14We call to guarantee the personal safety of President Maduro and his wife and to release them once and for all.
03:20We support the Council in fulfilling its primary responsibility to maintain international peace and security.
03:28We support the efforts of the Secretary General of these countries in the region and the organizations that contribute to the promotion of dialogue and distinction.
03:38Also during the United Nations Security Council, the permanent representative of Russia to the United Nations,
03:44President Vasily Neventia, expressed Russia's rejection to the attacks of the United States against Venezuela on January 3rd.
03:50We extend our firm solidarity with the people of Venezuela in the face of the external aggression.
04:01We firmly support and completely support the policy of the Bolivarian government,
04:05which is geared towards protection of their national interests and the sovereignty of the country.
04:09Washington's aggressive acts have already been condemned by many states and multilateral associations,
04:15including the Non-Aligned Movement, the African Union,
04:18as well as a group of friends in defense of the Charter of the United Nations.
04:21We hope that the international banditry will immediately be met with objective and comprehensive assessment
04:28at the international legal level,
04:31with United Nations universal mechanisms and other multilateral formats being brought to bear.
04:36On the other hand, the representative from Eritrea expressed full support
04:41to the constitutional Bolivarian government of Venezuela
04:44under the leadership of President Nicolás Maduro
04:47and to the Venezuelan people in their ongoing struggle to defend their sovereignty.
04:52The group of friends of the Charter of the United Nations reiterates its firm support
04:57to the constitutional government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
05:01under the leadership of President Nicolás Maduro Moros
05:05and emphasized the importance of ensuring strict respect
05:08for the inviolability of the immunities
05:13accorded to heads of states and government under international law
05:16while renewing its unwavering solidarity with the Venezuelan people
05:21in their ongoing struggle for defending their homeland,
05:25including through the actions it may take within the framework of international law
05:29The representative of Iran rejected the abduction of President Nicolás Maduro
05:41and first combatant Celia Flores and called it a flagrant violation of international law
05:46and of the immunity of heads of state.
05:48The abduction of democratically elected president and the first lady of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
05:55by the United States constitute a flagrant violation of customary international law,
06:02including the principles of the inviolability of the immunities
06:06accorded to the heads of state and government under international law
06:11and represent a grave assault on the sovereign equality of states.
06:18For his part, the Cuban representative to the United Nations
06:22stressed his country's respect for Venezuela's sovereignty
06:25and reiterated that 32 Cubans who failed in combat during the U.S. aggression
06:32were there at the request of the Venezuelan government.
06:34Cuba strictly respects the sovereignty, independence
06:41and the inalienable rights of the Venezuelan people
06:44to decide their own destiny
06:46as established by the United Nations Charter.
06:51Cooperation between both countries in multiple spheres
06:54has a legitimate basis
06:56and based on bilateral agreements signed by both parties
07:00as it's being declared by the revolutionary government.
07:04The 32 combatants that fell in the terrorist attack
07:09perpetrated by the United States
07:11were in missions by the revolutionary forces
07:13at the request of Venezuela.
07:16Those patriots were heroic in their action
07:18showing solidarity with millions of Venezuelans.
