Consistently, those who think big often create the most disruptive innovation. But what most people forget to talk about, is their first step. It is majorly beneficial to first test out your big idea on a smaller scale, much smaller scale first. In this Speaker Vlog, I'll explain why.

** Nash Fung is a TEDx keynote speaker who speaks on the power of curiosity.

00:00If you have a far-reaching goal or a big idea, it's good to first think about where
00:06you can test out that idea on a much smaller scale first. That's something I
00:15have learned from building a career as a magician and a keynote speaker. Come with me
00:19to Colorado, let me show you what I mean. So when I was in college, I was an RA and
00:27I had to put on monthly activities for the residents and guess what? Of course, I
00:31put on a magic show and turns out it wasn't bad. The reaction was pretty good
00:39and that was my first test to know that hey, this might turn into something.
00:45Man, I wish I still have footage from the show because I remember a trick just now
00:48that was on that show 20 years ago that I haven't done for about 20 years. I
00:52remember just taking any random business card from the school office
00:56office that I didn't have any business card. I was a college student and I
01:00remember taking that person's card and just started tearing it down the middle.
01:04I just got tearing it, okay? Keep tearing it and obviously that person wasn't very
01:09pleased when I torn his card into two separate pieces like that. Only for me to
01:16put the pieces in my hand and I go like that and I remember sticking those two
01:21torn pieces of business card back together again. But he still wasn't very happy because
01:29obviously the card is now completely unusable. It's completely creased up like
01:32that. So I took his card and gave a little iron like that to flatten out those
01:36creases so that way he could use his card again. And then for the next 10 years, I
01:44spend my time as a touring magician at the university market, do my own one-man
01:50show. I started putting in like five minutes of inspirational messages and then
01:55become 10 minutes and 15 minutes. And after testing it out for five years or so,
02:01that's when I discovered that, yep, it's gonna work. So I made a fortune
02:05decision from being a magician to now being a keynote speaker who uses magic to inspire.
02:11If you're wondering, Nash, do you really had to fly all the way to Colorado to tell me
02:16all that? Well, I just finished a keynote here for a conference and here's what
02:21happened.
