00:00The chairman of an Indian-based party says there is no need to sound the alarm over the call by PAS to revive Mafakat Nasional, the electoral pact it forged with UMNO in 2019.
00:13P. Ramasamy of Urimay said that such calls were expected of PAS.
00:19In a Facebook post, he said,
00:21PAS represents the most credible effort to unite Malay Muslims nationwide.
00:26Adding that even former Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad's efforts to forge a political umbrella for the Malays may not find as much traction compared to PAS.
00:37Ramasamy also suggested that PAS was attempting to capitalize on UMNO's weakness, following several dismal performances by the party at the polls, by calling for broad-based Malay-Muslim unity under MN.
00:51Last week, PAS election director Sanusi Noor said MN should be revitalized ahead of the next general election,
01:00saying the ties between PAS and UMNO were vital for political stability at the grassroots level,
01:07echoing similar calls by other PAS leaders to revive the alliance.
01:12Ramasamy went on to say that the real challenge for PAS was not merely forging Malay-Muslim unity,
01:18but how to create and sustain national unity by recognizing the fundamental rights of the non-Malays.
01:27Mirato, FMT.
