00:51karate. Shotokan karate was founded in 1936 by Ichin Funakashi. The main Okinawan karate style
01:01that helped develop Shotokan karate was Shurenru karate. After years of studying Okinawan styles
01:08of karate including Shurenru, Ichin Funakashi created Shotokan karate. His plan was to make sure
01:17his style of karate was much simpler with the best from each Okinawan karate style he studied.
01:25Once he created his style he never gave it a name but he did call it karate. His style of karate
01:34reflected the changes made by Anka Itsu which consisted of the kata series known as Pinan
01:43karate which is the main kata system in Shurenru karate. In Shotokan they are known as Hian katas
01:51and are very similar to the Pinan katas. He would change the names of some of the katas from Okinawan
01:59to Japanese so that the pronunciation would be easier. In 1924, Ichin Funakashi adopted the belt ring system
02:12known as Kyu and Dan and also adopted the uniforms all of which was developed in the martial arts known as Judo.
02:19Igo Funakashi is the third son of Ichin Funakashi and is responsible for the changes made in Shotokan karate

02:42idolized since I was a kid is Jason David Frank who is famous for his roles in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
02:50and later shows and movies. He played many rangers as Tommy Oliver but his most famous was his first two. The green Mighty Morphin Ranger and the white Mighty Morphin Ranger. As a child I myself was actually bullied a lot because I was a fan of the Power Rangers. Jason David Frank has taken the martial arts and the Power Rangers and launched it in the modern world.
