From 1998 to 2005 the Förderkoje was a small exhibition space (not much space, really: 6.69 cbm) in a private flat in Berlin, Germany. As of March 2006, the Förderkoje changed the concept and will temporarily be moving into the private homes of individual hosts. Foerderkoje director and Preview Berlin co-founder Ralf Schmitt talks about the gallery, the artists represented by the gallery, and his booth at the fair. Artists: Werner Bunz, Simone Decker, Stephanie Jünemann, Matthias Schellenberger, Manfred Schneider, Kai Teichert, Astrid Stricker, and Julia Neuenhausen. Preview Berlin, Professional Preview, September 28, 2006.

00:00We are at the booth of Förderkurie. Now Ralf Schmidt, the owner of Förderkurie, will explain what does it mean, Förderkurie.
00:11Well, Förderkurie relates to a very small space in our private flat.
00:18And from 1998 till 2005 it was a very small space inside the private flat where we were living.
00:24And also we were organizing exhibitions and through this connection of living and exhibiting a kind of semi-public space came into being.
00:33And it was a quite familiar atmosphere inside this private flat.
00:40So the sometimes alienated gallery hopper could hardly escape and found him or herself at our kitchen table just for a talk.
00:47So it was a, comparing to Mauricio Catalan's project, the wrong gallery, it wasn't the wrong gallery, it was more a factory edel gallery in the center of Berlin.
00:56And then we moved out of the flat and I was thinking how to continue the project.
01:02And I decided, okay, now I make it inverse. I started to organize so-called home visits. You know, one home visit was also in Basel.
01:14That means that I now go inside private flats and together with the host of the Förderkurie and with a third person,
01:25we work out a specific presentation and also organize this presentation.
01:31And for example, in this booth, some of the artists I choose for home visits are on display.
01:40For example, Manfred Schneider with this big drawing and also there's a big drawing outside of the booth.
01:47And also Astrid Stricker, they took part in home visit number two, which happened at GLU in Berlin.
01:56Another example, which is a current example, is Kai Teichert with these paintings with these chips.
02:08He is currently on display in Vienna on home visit number four, which is still ongoing till the end of October.
02:17And also outside there is a large painting of my booth.
02:26It was quite funny because I had a German text and I took it to a translator and she suggested to say nurturing birth,
02:35but it's very, of course, very specific because I took it from the Art Cologne.
02:40And there was a description of this small situation in the private flat, so it's hard to translate it.
02:47But she suggested to say nurturing birth.
02:50You have a little bit more space here.
02:52A little bit, yes.
02:54Of course, it's not limited to the space.
02:59When I went out of the flat in Berlin from the old location of the Föder Quark,
03:05I was thinking about re-imitating this small space.
03:10But this is, of course, nonsense because it's not so much linked to the space.
03:14It's more linked to this specific situation, which I try to continue to produce.
03:20So it can be very large, of course, too.
03:23But...
