00:00At least six people have been injured, including three children, following Russian strikes on the Ukrainian city of Odessa.
00:10Turkish forces detained 125 suspected so-called Islamic State group members on Wednesday.
00:20Thailand has released 18 Cambodian prisoners of war as part of a recent ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
00:31At least six people, including three children, have been injured following Russian strikes on the Ukrainian port city of Odessa.
00:40Ukrainian State Emergency Services said the strikes hit civilian and logistical infrastructure as well as energy facilities.
00:49Footage showed a high-rise building on fire with first responders evacuating residents.
00:54Four apartment complexes and 14 cars were damaged as a result of the strikes.
01:01The attack comes as leaders from Europe and Canada held talks on Tuesday on US-led peace efforts to end the nearly four-year war between Russia and Ukraine.
01:10Peace is on the horizon, but it is still far from a 100% certainty, said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in a cabinet meeting.
01:20Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky then went on to announce plans on social media for upcoming meetings with officials from about 30 countries, dubbed the Coalition of the Willing, which support Kiev's efforts to end the war with Russia on acceptable terms.
01:34National security advisors aimed to meet in Ukraine on the 3rd of January, followed by a meeting of the country's leaders three days later in France.
01:44Turkish forces detained 125 suspected so-called Islamic State Group members in coordinated operations across 25 provinces on Wednesday.
02:05Istanbul prosecutors separately announced authorities detained 29 people accused of promoting the IS group on social media platforms.
02:17Authorities seized digital materials and organizational documents during searches of suspect residences.
02:24The operations followed last Tuesday's raids, in which police detained 357 IS suspects across 21 provinces, mainly in Istanbul and Ankara.
02:36The investigations are linked to a deadly clash in Yalova, where three police officers were killed Monday.
02:44This is the last year in 1975, and then it's done.
02:48Fireworks sales have begun in the Netherlands, likely for the last time before a nation-wide ban.
02:56This is the last year, and then it's done.
03:00A new law, already passed by both Houses of Parliament, is expected to take effect next year and outlaw sales.
03:06People can buy permitted consumer fireworks until the evening of Wednesday, 31st of December.
03:12Industry groups say advance orders are higher than usual, and retailers expect strong counter sales.
03:18Some customers say they are disappointed by the ban, but also understand the safety concerns.
03:24Yeah, actually well, it's a tradition, I think.
03:27I think it's pretty well, it's a little bit of a physical group.
03:32But for these guys, the small firework is not bad, but it's what it is.
03:36I'd say that the political force has reacted under pressure, I think.
03:43Of course, we always find a unlucky place, but the most unlucky happen in my opinion with illegaal firework.
03:49Starting on the 1st of January, 2026, Bulgaria will become the 21st member of the Eurozone, with the Euro replacing the left as its national currency.
04:07The Balkan country of 6.5 million people joined the EU in 2007 and formally began the process of joining the Eurozone in 2018.
04:16It now respects the four Maastricht criteria to join the currency bloc.
04:20Price stability, with an inflation rate of 2.7% in 2024.
04:25Sound public finances, with public debt and deficit levels of 24% and 3% of GDP in 2024.
04:33Exchange rate stability and long-term interest rate stability.
04:37In 2024, Bulgaria was the poorest EU country in terms of GDP per capita.
04:43It is also the EU country the most affected by poverty, with more than 21% of its population living below the poverty line.
04:51Brussels and Sofia hope joining the Eurozone will boost the country's economy and strengthen its European integration.
04:58The bigger effect is the long-term effect, basically boosting confidence when it comes to the currency, to the purchasing power of the currency, the confidence of foreign investors, people who buy Bulgarian debt, but also people who invest in the country.
05:15Peter Gannev thinks that joining the Eurozone will only marginally contribute to inflation.
05:20It's not the main factor. The main factor is the consumption, which is supported by inflationary budget and by record high credits, especially for new homes.
05:35But it's political instability that might negatively impact Bulgaria's economy. The government resigned in mid-December after weeks of anti-corruption protests.
05:50Thailand has released 18 Cambodian prisoners of war as part of a ceasefire agreement between the two countries, both of whom have been involved in violent and deadly border disputes in recent months.
06:03The repatriation of the Cambodian soldiers was undertaken as a demonstration of good will and confidence building, as well as an adherence to international humanitarian principles, Thailand's foreign minister said in a statement.
06:20His Cambodian counterpart added that the release creates an environment conducive to peace, stability and the full normalization of relations for the benefit of both nations and their people in the near future.
06:31The soldiers' liberation removes a major impediment toward that goal after fighting which killed at least 101 people and displaced more than half a million on both sides.
06:42Pope Leo XIV held the last general audience of the year in front of thousands of faithful gathered in St. Peter's Square on Wednesday.
06:57The Pope spoke about a year punctuated by moments of contrasting significance, which have contained both joy and pain.
07:05And pain and pain.
07:32The traditional Holy Mass for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, takes place on Thursday, New Year's Day.
07:42Day 2 of the first ever World Sports Summit shifted the focus from inspiration to action, with conversations spanning athlete well-being, innovation and the future of global sport.
07:58UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov opened the day, sharing his perspective on where mixed martial arts is headed.
08:05British UFC fighter Michael Venom Page was also in attendance, taking inspiration from some of his own sporting heroes and hoping to pass on that motivation to the next generation.
08:15Just understanding that you need patience and things like this to keep motivating yourself to want to keep getting back into it.
08:21So even being here in this short space of time, I'm inspired and eager to get back to training, inspired and eager to go back and put the work in to push for my next fight.
08:32Believe to God, believe in yourself, and hard work, focus, and you will achieve all those you're dreaming for.
08:40And make sure that you're dreaming to make a legacy that can help and be an inspiration to the next generation.
08:53Basketball was also firmly in the spotlight.
08:56Four-time NBA champion and Asval Leon owner Tony Parker says the long-discussed idea of NBA Europe is edging closer to reality.
09:04It's going to be a great project. I'm super excited. I'm super happy that the NBA wants to come to Europe.
09:09I think that's the next step for us, you know, to build a great league.
09:14And so hopefully, you know, we can move forward with that and announce some great stuff in 2026.
09:19From locker rooms to board rooms, the message here is clear.
09:23Global sport is expanding fast and Dubai wants to be at the center of the conversation.
