00:19avoid them suppress them or judge them in today's video let's talk about what emotions really are
00:26and how we can start understanding them instead of fighting them so what are emotions they are not
00:35weaknesses they are signals they are like notifications on our phones the notifications
00:44are not the problem but they are trying to tell us something fear is trying to tell us something
00:50feels unsafe anger is trying to tell us my boundary is being violated sadness is trying to tell us
00:58something important is missing joy is trying to tell us this is important to me emotions are your
01:06mind and body coming together to help you survive connect and make sense of this world so why do
01:14they feel so overwhelming emotions feel overwhelming not because they are too strong but because we
01:22don't know how to listen to them you were raised to ignore them to stay strong to move on and not to
01:30cry so we end up not processing these emotions and restore them these stored and unfelt emotions later
01:40show up as anxiety burnout anger outbursts or even addiction so how do you understand them understanding
01:50emotions doesn't mean controlling them but just getting curious here's a simple three-step approach step one
01:58name the feeling instead of saying I am feeling bad are you feeling guilty afraid lonely naming the emotion
02:09will reduce the intensity step two notice the body when when you're feeling the emotion notice notice notice
02:17where it is showing up in your body is it showing up in your chest jaw stomach getting or becoming aware of
02:27where that feeling is showing up can help you process it much better and step three ask what it wants
02:36sometimes the emotion exists there for a reason it is trying to tell us that you need something is it
02:46rest is it safety is it expression is it connection emotions are not enemies to be defeated they are
02:55messengers to be heard and maybe emotional strength isn't about staying calm all the time it's about being
