Travel expert Simon Calder warned that Eurostar cancellations leave passengers with little time to recover during the busy New Year period. He said thousands of travellers will now be competing for a limited number of trains as services resume.

00:00The really bad thing about this time of year is that there is so little recovery time.
00:05Passengers are absolutely invested in their journeys,
00:09trying to get back from continental Europe in time to celebrate New Year.
00:13Maybe people heading for Paris, Brussels or Amsterdam for an important New Year escape.
00:19And I know that when services resume, there are going to be perhaps 10,000 people
00:25who've had their trains cancelled today or have decided not to try to travel,
00:30all of whom are trying to squeeze on a very limited number of trains tomorrow.
