00:00Welcome Strongman fans and those with no other particular plans, here's something you may find
00:25entertaining. It's day three of the SPD World's Strongest Man. We're in Sacramento, California
00:31where already days one and two have been raw and they've been primal as four men muscled
00:35their way into the final.
00:37Time and reigning SPD World's Strongest Man, representing Great Britain, Tom Stoltzman!
00:49Yes! We are playing games!
00:53Through to his first SPD World's Strongest Man final, it's the singing strongman Eddie Williams!
01:04Through to the World's Strongest Man final, let's hear it from Mitchell Hooper!
01:12Through to his very first SPD World's Strongest Man final, Paddy Haynes!
01:29So, Eddie Hall, first two groups here in Sacramento have been absolutely stacked with former finalists
01:34but today's set features some very interesting fresh faces.
01:38Yeah, we've got two new guys, Lucas Hatton and Rayne O'Neill.
01:42Now, Lucas Hatton has been competing at some very high-level competition in Strongman.
01:46Came second at the Arnold Classic, which is where the top ten guys in the world go to compete,
01:51so that's a very good steed.
01:53And then Rayne O'Neill won the SCL, which is the Strongman Champions League.
01:57It's like the League One in Strongman, but usually guys that win that tend to do very good at this stage.
02:04And he did that despite only taking part in three of the twelve competitions.
02:08So, must have something about him.
02:10Well, aside from Nell and that Manhattan, what about the chances of Britain's Shane Flowers
02:14becoming the third Brit in the final?
02:16Last time he was here three years ago, he dropped an anvil on his foot in the first event and broke it.
02:21Can we expect better this time?
02:23Yeah, Shane Flowers has had a bit of a whirlwind the last few years.
02:26He missed one year at World's Strongest Man because of the birth of his son.
02:30He missed the second year because ten days before the final, he ripped his bicep off the bone and had to get reattached.
02:36So, he's taken about six months to recover from that and about six months' good training.
02:41He came second at Britain's Strongest Man.
02:43If you're coming to the top two in Britain, in my opinion, that puts you at the top ten in the world, no problem.
02:47Okay. Wow. Add a two-time runner-up in Mateusz Kieloszkowski into that mix,
02:51and you've got yourself a very interesting heat three.
02:53Let's hear more about them now with our commentators Daniel Wallace and Colin Bryce.
02:57Well, thanks, James. Thanks, Eddie.
02:59And guess what a group this is.
03:02First time travelling to North America for Rayno Nell, two-time Africa's Strongest Man and a former rugby player.
03:09From the US, it's Lucas, the hit Manhattan, making his debut two times America's Strongest Man.
03:16The Ghanaian Gladiator, second time at World's Strongest, Evans Nanna.
03:21Mateusz Kieloszkowski, the mighty pole, twice second at World's Strongest Man.
03:27And completing the line-up from Britain's Shane Flowers.
03:31Flower Power, he calls himself. I need a stronger nickname.
03:35So, first event is the loading medley, Colin.
03:38Sacks, a sack fest. Four of them have to be loaded back on the Cybertruck.
03:43Well, they call this guy the hitman, on account of his side hustle in assassinations.
03:53And Flowers is back, Colin.
03:55Yes, it's great to see him back. It's been a while now. He's been out with different injuries.
04:01He's got a great opportunity and he's in great shape.
04:05On the whistle.
04:07And all of these weigh around, about 130 kilograms, just under 300 pounds.
04:13Or, uh, about, uh, maybe 22 stone. So, pretty heavy.
04:18Not the easiest things to carry either. They can slip out your hands.
04:22Neck and neck at the moment. I'm impressed with Hatton, seeing as he's got such enormous legs.
04:27This is fast from both guys, especially in this heat.
04:30Different techniques, though, moving up to the shoulder for Hatton.
04:33It's definitely quicker just to carry it in your arms, but it, uh, can be tiring.
04:37Especially on this last one, if you try and do that.
04:39Kicks and turns, that's really quick from Flowers.
04:43Well, it was. It's a risk to pick it up and turn.
04:45Both men doing it. Flowers, faster.
04:47Nice.
04:49It's a very awkwardly shaped sack.
04:52And, uh, the Husserfeld stone.
04:54And, uh, about 47, 48 seconds there for Hatton.
04:57And we saw from the previous heats, with the likes of Mitchell Hooper, Tom Stoltman,
05:0138 seconds was the very best for those two.
05:04So, uh, remember this is compared to the other heats if you qualify through to the final.
05:09Well, four in 48.09 for Lucas Hatton.
05:13With four sandbags at a time of 40.13.
05:17But a good time. Shane Flowers, as he was satisfied.
05:2140 seconds.
05:24Yes, indeed. 40 seconds is excellent.
05:26Very close to Stoltman and Mitchell Hooper from the other heats.
05:29Not sure there was much more there, though.
05:31Good job.
05:32Good job.
05:33...representing South Africa, Reino Nell.
05:37So, Reino Nell.
05:39That mighty chest.
05:41In lane to represent...
05:42...against an old hand.
05:43He's been appearing at World's Strongest since 2016.
05:48Kieliszkowski.
05:49This should be fascinating.
05:52Kieliszkowski is incredibly quick.
05:54But Reino Nell, he's almost an unknown quantity.
05:57We've heard so many things about him.
05:59Two times Africa's strongest man.
06:01He's only been in the sport two years.
06:03Oh, absolutely.
06:05He's doing very well here.
06:08Very fast turn against Kieliszkowski.
06:10Who's just about never lost a loading event in his life.
06:13This is really impressive from the South African.
06:16Nell's off.
06:17Kieliszkowski just behind him.
06:19You can tell Nell used to play rugby.
06:21And Kieliszkowski is a...
06:23Oh, that's a fumble there.
06:24That will cost him greatly.
06:26What an error.
06:28Now then, Flowers did 40 seconds just over.
06:30This is going to be tight.
06:33Well, Nell needs to get ahead of that 40 seconds.
06:36He's not going to do that.
06:38But he's nipping at Flowers' heels as Kieliszkowski
06:42finishes.
06:43That will be disappointing for him.
06:48Yeah, massively disappointing for Kieliszkowski.
06:50That was just a total...
06:52He's just switched off for a second.
06:54I don't know what he was thinking.
06:55He's furious at himself.
06:57And actually, it made him speed up on the last one.
07:00Well, an unhappy Kieliszkowski.
07:02Four in 46.28.
07:04And with four sandbags in a time of 42.36.
07:07And a couple of seconds behind Flowers.
07:09For Rayne O'Neill.
07:11Rayne O'Neill.
07:13You know he grew that massage this morning.
07:16Rayne O'Neill shines, but Flowers blooming good
07:18and in the lead in event one.
07:20Up next, though, hey, nah, nah.
07:22It's the self-proclaimed Usain Bolt of strength.
07:25Can he go fastest?
07:26We'll find out when we return.
07:27Welcome back to the SPD World's Strongest Man,
07:40where Brit Shane Flowers is in the lead in Group 3.
07:43Just one man left to run in the opening event,
07:45the loading medley, Evans Nana from Ghana.
07:48Back to Colin and Danny.
07:49Evans Nana!
07:50Well, thank you, James.
07:51Yes.
07:52Cutting a lonely figure.
07:54Evans can compete against no one.
07:57Doing the solo, Evans Nana from Ghana.
08:00He calls himself, as James mentioned earlier,
08:03the Usain Bolt of strong men.
08:05Ready? On the whistle.
08:07It can be a little hit and miss, Evans.
08:10Certainly very fast at moving events like this.
08:13Completely the World's Strongest Man last year.
08:15That was his debut.
08:17Didn't make it to the final,
08:18but this is certainly an event that suits him.
08:21He's very quick through the first two sacks.
08:25He's only been competing in strong men since 2021.
08:30Already made a real impact with the other athletes.
08:33And now, now we see the Usain Bolt of it.
08:36Speed back to the final sack.
08:41Marginally slower than Usain Bolt.
08:43I was going to say marginally slower,
08:44but if you can let him off.
08:47Well, the 40 seconds of Shane Flowers has come and gone.
08:49He's not going to win this heat, but it's solid.
08:53Yeah.
08:54Good time for Evans Nana.
08:58Right about 44 seconds.
09:0144.9 for Evans Nana.
09:03Put him behind Raynaud now, but ahead of Kieliszkowski.
09:08Yeah, I would have said Kieliszkowski.
09:10Manhattan were the two favourites for this heat.
09:12But right now, they're fourth and fifth.
09:14This man in third.
09:16Yes, while the favourites flounder, it's Flowers who's off to a flyer.
09:19Picking up his maiden event win at World's Strongest Man.
09:23He's with Michelle.
09:28Now, Shane, the last time I saw you was back in 2022.
09:32You were in an ice bath with a broken foot.
09:34Is it good to be back?
09:36I knew he was going to bring that up.
09:38It's really good to be back.
09:39You know, three years later in the same city.
09:42To win an event that cost me so much three years ago.
09:45Really happy.
09:46And I just need to keep building on this now.
09:49I know that my finalists have got it in me.
09:51So I just need to show the world that I can do it.
09:53This is the thing, isn't it?
09:54But it's been a long road.
09:55It's been quite the journey for you to get to this point.
09:58Yeah, it has.
09:59Obviously, 2022 went completely wrong.
10:0223, I missed due to the birth of my son.
10:0524, 10 days out from the show, managed to rupture my bicep off the bone.
10:10So I've not had much luck.
10:12But I'm here now.
10:13I'm in great shape.
10:14So let's do it.
10:16Tell you what, you seem incredibly focused.
10:17And as it currently stands, you're third overall.
10:20What's that doing to the confidence levels?
10:23Just building and building.
10:24Like I said, I've not had much luck.
10:25So when your back is against the wall, it's hard sometimes.
10:27And there's been times over the last three years
10:29where I've thought about just jacking it in.
10:31But I just took one day at a time and now I'm back.
10:34So, yeah, buzzing.
10:36It's fantastic to see you here.
10:37Well done, Shane.
10:38Thank you. Thank you very much.
10:40Shane Flan is off to a great start in his quest
10:42to join fellow Brits Tom Stoltman and Paddy Haynes,
10:45who are already through to the final.
10:47Next up, though, for Shane and Group 3,
10:49it's a very different kind of test.
10:51The deadlift for reps.
10:52And if event one was all about speed,
10:55this requires raw power.
10:57350 kilos on the bar, 60 seconds on the clock.
11:02Our first was a man with static strength of plenty,
11:05Lucas Hatton.
11:08Hatton managed seven reps,
11:10matching the mark set in previous heats
11:12by former champions Tom Stoltman and Mitchell Hooper.
11:15That's the number for the rest of Group 3 to aim for then,
11:19as we rejoin Conan and Daniel.
11:21Representing Ghana.
11:26Evans-Nana then.
11:27Evans-Nana.
11:28Evans-Nana.
11:30Hepping to...
11:32Hepping to...
11:34Best.
11:35Hatton seven reps.
11:36So, too, Kieliszkowski.
11:37Mattias Kieliszkowski.
11:38Mattias Kieliszkowski.
11:41One of the greats, Kieliszkowski.
11:43Certainly one of the greats to never have won World's Strongest Man.
11:46That's for sure.
11:47He's right up there in that list.
11:48It's good to have him back,
11:49but this was always his Achilles heel deadlift.
11:52Nana.
11:53Down.
11:54He knocks the deadlift and...
11:55Oh, no!
11:56Down.
11:57Down.
11:58Made in his hips or what, but he's...
11:59To be honest, this is probably the reason why he couldn't win World's Strongest Man.
12:02Down.
12:03Lift.
12:04That's...
12:05Already another very disappointing event for Kieliszkowski.
12:08Lift.
12:09So we'll focus on Nana.
12:10He wasn't there.
12:11Down.
12:12Lift.
12:13Five reps.
12:14We've seen from the other heats that, uh,
12:16eight is about absolute max you can do in this.
12:19Down.
12:20Lift.
12:21And the bar doesn't bend at all.
12:23Very thick bar as well.
12:25And...
12:26Down.
12:27Picked from a very low height.
12:28Lower than you would in a gym.
12:29Seven reps.
12:30Could he do eight?
12:31He's got time.
12:32He does have time.
12:33Can he give us one more?
12:37This heat, of course, not helping.
12:44Well, seven for Nana.
12:46Ties in for first so far with Hatton.
12:49It's had its effect, hasn't it?
12:51Goodness me, yeah.
12:52That's knocked him for sixth.
12:54Try and get his suit off and get him breathing a little better.
12:58But once someone stops, they rarely get another rep.
13:01Seven, though, is very solid.
13:03Equals Hatton.
13:04With seven repetitions, give it up for Evan Nell.
13:09Some oxygen will help him get back on it.
13:11Oh, that was fast.
13:13Goodness me.
13:14He's the Usain Bolt, the strong man.
13:17What was in that?
13:18He's a great showman.
13:19He loves the crowd, that's for sure.
13:25Representing South Africa, Reino Nell.
13:28To Reino Nell.
13:31He's very fast in the loading medley.
13:34Representing Great Britain, Shane Flowers.
13:37Out to some of these misfortunes.
13:47Shane is a former Commonwealth champion in powerlifting.
13:50He's been one of the three disciplines of powerlifting.
13:53So I'd expect him to do very well here,
13:55but it's Reino Nell who's making the running.
13:57The unknown quantity.
14:00Banging them out here.
14:01This is impressive from now.
14:05He doesn't really know what his maximum is.
14:07He's never really been tested yet.
14:09He is fairly new to strongman.
14:11This is his debut at World's Strongest Man.
14:13He looks great.
14:14It has to be said.
14:17Often we see that when someone doesn't know
14:19what they're not supposed to be able to do,
14:22they go a lot further than we think they can.
14:25And he's doing that now.
14:27Yes, he shouldn't do a...
14:29But he can.
14:30And he's done it.
14:31Wow.
14:32My goodness me.
14:33That's a massive total.
14:34Flowers trying to get the seventh up here.
14:36Can he get it up his quads?
14:37No, he can't.
14:38So close there.
14:40Shane Flowers.
14:43Well, in powerlifting,
14:44you'd have been told to put that down,
14:45but in strongman, that's fine.
14:47You could jack it up,
14:48but he didn't have the energy in the end.
14:51So six reps for Shane Flowers.
14:55The winner of the deadlift.
14:56Let's hear it.
14:57But just incredible, really, from Reino Nell.
14:59Surprised everybody.
15:01Eight reps.
15:03Well, we've seen he's very fast,
15:04and now we've seen he's statically very, very strong, too.
15:08This guy's looking like an all-round package.
15:10The South African, an all-round surprise package.
15:15He's eight reps equaling the best score we've seen all week.
15:19They call him the Reino, and Reino is with Michelle.
15:23Reino, first time on the World's Strongest Man circuit,
15:27and you've just won an event.
15:29How does it feel?
15:30No, it's amazing.
15:31I had a bit more hope for a loading medley,
15:33so this is good redemption for me, for myself.
15:36And I know for you, you grew up watching strongman.
15:39To actually be here with some of the greatest strongmen of all time,
15:43what's that like for you?
15:44Yeah, it's awesome.
15:45I mean, I don't get bigger than this.
15:46I'm so humble and so glad to be taking in every moment.
15:50It's amazing.
15:51What's the plan for the next event?
15:53I take it one event at a time.
15:55So next is the pressing medley.
15:58I have a game plan.
15:59I'm not going to share it yet.
16:00Fair enough.
16:02But yeah, no, I'll just go out and give my best.
16:04And do you have an overall goal for this year's World's Strongest Man?
16:08Have you got your eyes on the final?
16:10Yeah, being my first World's Strongest Man,
16:12I think getting into a final will be a big achievement.
16:15So yeah, that's the first box that I need to tick.
16:18It feels like there's a lot of eyes on you coming into this competition.
16:21Does that add a bit of pressure?
16:23Do you feel like you've got a point to prove?
16:25Yeah, look, I come from a whole different organization.
16:28There's only one other guy here that I competed against.
16:30So I think I'm unknown.
16:31But for me, take it one event at a time
16:34and then maybe show the guys I deserve to be here.
16:36All the best to look, Reino.
16:37Thank you so much.
16:40Reino the Rhino currently on top of the standings.
16:43Two points clear of Shane Flowers
16:45in what continues to be a very surprising group.
16:47The highly rated Lucas Hatton and Mateusz Kieliszkowski
16:50are currently a long way off the qualifying positions.
16:54Up next, it's the overhead medley.
16:56Can Lucas and Mateusz keep up with the pairs?
16:59Can Shane Flowers keep his spot in the top two?
17:02We'll find out when we return.
17:03Welcome back to the SPD World's Strongest Man.
17:13Next up for the strongmen of group three,
17:15it's the overhead medley.
17:17This test of overhead metal, literally,
17:20with four different implements
17:22for a combined seven reps and 75 seconds on the clock.
17:26First out, and in desperate need of points,
17:28is Poland's Mateusz Kieliszkowski.
17:30Over to Colin and Danny.
17:31Well, Kieliszkowski could redeem himself here.
17:40One of the most explosive overhead pressers in the world.
17:45Yes, he has to go on his own.
17:48He was at last in the deadlift,
17:50so he has to come out first in this event.
17:5290 kilograms overhead,
17:54this should be no problem whatsoever for him.
17:56He is one of the greatest dumbbell pressers there's ever been,
18:00that's for sure.
18:02Now then, let's see if he just viper,
18:04yes, he does,
18:05just chucks it right from his hip up overhead.
18:07No pausing necessary, just straight up.
18:12Viper press, as they call it, very impressive.
18:15Now then, onto the clean and jerk of this circus barbell.
18:24Seems to be struggling slightly here.
18:27Lacking the power belly.
18:29He's the power belly, doesn't he?
18:30Oh, that's it for Kieliszkowski.
18:33Well, something's not right here, obviously.
18:35He's not feeling himself.
18:37Yeah, I'm very surprised.
18:38You saw how easy it was for him to chuck that log up.
18:40It's as if he just ran out of gas.
18:43Let's hear it from Matias Kieliszkowski.
18:45Well, four in 26.25.
18:47I don't know what's going through his head.
18:54Representing the United States of America.
18:56So, Lucas Hitman Hatton.
18:59One of the world's greatest pressers.
19:05Representing...
19:06Shane Flowers.
19:07Shane Flowers.
19:08He's having a good day.
19:11He's feeling good.
19:13Looking forward to seeing Hatton press the log.
19:20One of the best log pressers right now out there.
19:25If not the best, just about.
19:28And very quick with that dumbbell.
19:31Wow.
19:32That was lightning.
19:38Have some of that, Kieliszkowski.
19:39Anything Kieliszkowski can do.
19:46Slower, steadier.
19:49Now then, let's see how Hatton deals with this circus barbell.
19:52There's the power bar.
19:54There it goes.
19:55Look at that.
19:56350 pounds.
19:57Gleaned and jerked overhead with ease.
20:02If he gets through this next one, Hatton, he'll go on to the axle.
20:06The end game monster, if you like.
20:08Weighing 168 kilograms.
20:10That's more like 365 pounds.
20:12Very heavy indeed.
20:1475 seconds of which to do it.
20:21He's still got time.
20:30Oh.
20:31Oh.
20:32Hatton's beaten.
20:33Flowers.
20:34Oh.
20:35Oh, he didn't lock it out.
20:36Well, he did lock it out, but it was in front of him.
20:39Goodness me.
20:40Well, five in 52.74 for Shane Flowers.
20:51But one ahead, Lucas Hatton.
20:53Six in 47.41.
20:58I really thought Hatton was going to do the final implement there.
21:01Such a great presser, but all of the cleaning,
21:04getting it to the shoulders is what tired him.
21:06Representing Ghana, it's Eben's Nana.
21:10Eben's Nana next.
21:15Getting the crowd onside.
21:16Always a good idea.
21:18Reino Nell.
21:19And Reino Nell.
21:22A lot more modest in his behaviour.
21:25He's a very humble fella, but exceptionally talented.
21:31Ghana against South Africa right here.
21:33That's fast from Nell.
21:36I mean, this is quite a technical event for a man who's not been in the sport particularly long.
21:43He's just so talented at everything.
21:46Highly coordinated as well as ridiculously strong.
21:49Goodness me.
21:50What?
21:51And straight back to the second.
21:53Well, what's happening here?
21:54I promise doesn't make sense.
21:55We're talking 150 kilos in the hand there.
21:56That's a serious weight.
21:57Locks out.
21:58Already moving on.
21:59You see how long-armed he is as well.
22:00That's a long old press down here.
22:01I mean, he's pushing it.
22:02A great deal above his head there.
22:03He's not built to be a presser, but he's good.
22:04Oh, what a jerk.
22:05Now that's how to lift weights.
22:06Ooh, it bounced into him.
22:07That's going to hurt.
22:08That's going to hurt.
22:09The uninitiated what a jerk is actually a compliment.
22:10Yeah.
22:11Yeah.
22:12That's basically using your legs twice and driving and dipping.
22:14In case you've just tuned in and thought Colin Bryce would have lusted his mind.
22:19So, Nana.
22:20And you come through here and the upper hand is coming through.
22:22I'll get you.
22:23I'll say, take a look.
22:24I'm asking you a little bit more.
22:25What a jerk?
22:26I'll get you.
22:27You come through here.
22:28You have to take your underwear.
22:29You can see how long-armed he is as well.
22:31That's a long old press down here.
22:32I mean, he's pushing it a great deal above his head there.
22:34He's built to be a presser, but he's good.
22:35He's good.
22:36Oh, what a jerk.
22:37So, Nenna.
22:40Oh, it's unsteady.
22:42That's a shame.
22:44Yeah, he never had full control, did he?
22:46Ooh!
22:47Boy, he's really bouncing around into them.
22:50Uncomfortable finish for Nell, but...
22:52Another consistent, good performance.
22:55Might not have won this overhead medley, but it's time indeed.
23:00Well, it puts him in second after Hatton.
23:02Five in 36.81.
23:05And we found third place as well.
23:07In Evans, Nenna.
23:08Five in 48.91.
23:11Nenna!
23:16That's hard lines there for Nenna.
23:18I mean, if you look at it in slow motion,
23:19it does look like he's locked out, because he is,
23:21but he was always drifting away.
23:23He wasn't in control.
23:25It was the right call for Magnus.
23:26I disagree.
23:30The results for the overhead medley.
23:32Hatton hits back to claim a much-needed event win.
23:35Nell, Nenna, and Flowers all put up high, but not Matthias Kieliszkowski,
23:39who's returned to Worlds, is not going to plan.
23:42He's with Michel.
23:43Matthias, everyone's been so excited to see you back here at Worlds,
23:48but we know you've had a difficult time of it with the last three events, haven't you?
23:52Yeah, yeah.
23:52I was very excited to come here, but I don't feel well,
23:56because I feel something like high temperature, some fever.
24:00Here it's very hot, but I use long sleeves.
24:03I don't feel good right now.
24:06It's bad luck for me, but the event was fine.
24:10I should go final easy, but it's not my time.
24:14Maybe next year will be better.
24:15So tricky, especially if you're battling illness and injury, too.
24:20Yeah, I come back after a very, very heart injury.
24:22Last year, I turned my achilles.
24:25I'm not maybe 100% power.
24:28Maybe 80% is now.
24:30But still, I need to be very, very healthy to compete at the highest level here.
24:35Well, you know what, Matthias?
24:36There's so much love and respect for you here at Worlds' Strongest Man,
24:39and there are two events coming up that we know you're fantastic at.
24:44Does that give you hope that you can come back and put on a show?
24:47You know, I will do my maximum what I can possible now.
24:50Yesterday, also, overhead medley.
24:52I should win easy with total 25 guys,
24:54because I am the best in the medley overhead.
24:58But I can breathe.
25:00I don't have power.
25:01I feel cold all the time.
25:02I can't warm up.
25:03If I do warm up, I still have pain in my joints, elbows, and my knees.
25:09So, I will do my best.
25:11Of course, stone is 100% my event,
25:14and I will push my body to limit,
25:17to maybe win only one event,
25:19and just satisfy my mind a little bit.
25:23Matthias, we're all rooting for you,
25:25and we really hope you feel better soon.
25:27Thank you, thank you.
25:27Three events into Heat 3,
25:31and we've had three different winners so far,
25:33but it's the not-so-little Nell who's leading the way.
25:36His win in the deadlift, plus second places in the other events,
25:38means that he's three and a half points clear right now.
25:41He's looking good, Eddie.
25:42He's looking phenomenal.
25:43That deadlift result was insane.
25:46Eight reps, beating Tom Stoltman and Mitchell Hooper.
25:49They only managed seven.
25:50Honestly, that is within the best in the world at deadlift.
25:53Absolutely insane.
25:54Top two go through from this group.
25:56Currently, Shane Flowers in fourth spot,
25:58but he's only half a point behind second.
26:00Yeah, Shane Flowers is doing really good.
26:03Titans toss up next, so it's a good event for him.
26:05He's got the world record at the Giants Live for the sandbag toss,
26:08so it keeps him in contention to make it into the final this year.
26:11Excellent.
26:12What has been spectacular to watch in the first two heats,
26:15let's see how the Titans toss goes this time with Colin and Danny.
26:19Yes, the Titans toss.
26:21Colin, you're a Titan, so why don't you talk us through this?
26:24Well, you have to toss 10 sacks over a bar,
26:28and then you get further and further away with each pair of sacks.
26:31They all weigh 14 kilograms, about 30 pounds,
26:35and this is how it's done.
26:37True test of explosive power.
26:40Mateusz Kieliszkowski had to come out first on his own,
26:44having finished last in the previous event.
26:46just seven out of the ten in 31.97 seconds.
26:50I think you'll be a little disappointed with that,
26:52especially when there's so many good throwers and athletes in this heat.
26:56So, an achievable benchmark for Kieliszkowski.
26:59Now he's in seven.
27:03It is a game of strength.
27:05It's a game of physics.
27:08Yes, you've got to get the angle right,
27:10the angle of trajectory,
27:12and it gets flatter and flatter the further away you get.
27:14Evans-Nana,
27:15good thrower,
27:16very explosive,
27:17we know that,
27:18but Shane Flowers,
27:20as Eddie touched on,
27:21is exceptional at throwing.
27:24Taking it very seriously as well,
27:26very focused Flowers.
27:39So far,
27:40so easy for both men.
27:44It's just going to get tricky.
27:48That's high and long from Flowers,
27:52as he moves on to the last one.
27:54Oh,
27:54didn't get that one though.
27:56Nor the final.
28:00Eight for Flowers.
28:01That's 12 metres away there for Nana.
28:05It's just quite even close,
28:07I'm afraid.
28:09Still six for him,
28:11eight for Flowers.
28:12Yes,
28:12Flowers moving into first.
28:13Six sandbags
28:14at a time of 23.66.
28:16Give it up.
28:18And if Flowers can't do all ten,
28:19that shows you quite how hard it is.
28:25So eight in 23.38.
28:30Shane Flowers.
28:32That's a fast tie for Flowers.
28:34And he wanted to be quick,
28:35didn't he?
28:38I didn't expect him to be the best in the group,
28:40unless Kineskowski was firing on all cylinders,
28:42which he wasn't.
28:43Seven for him,
28:44eight for Shane.
28:45I think he'll be fairly happy with that.
28:47We still have a pair to go,
28:48so he might get beaten.
28:51That's pretty solid.
28:54So Hatton,
28:56the hitman,
28:57maybe not his strongest events.
29:01We think
29:02is Rayne O'Neill's wife.
29:06They got married just two months ago.
29:09This affected me their honeymoon.
29:12I wonder how he broke that to her.
29:16Now that I expect Rayne O'Neill to be exceptional at this,
29:19he's just turned out to be brilliant at everything.
29:21Hatton,
29:22he's not exactly built for this at six foot,
29:24short levers in terms of arms and legs,
29:26but he's got some wild power too.
29:29I saw him in the warm-up,
29:29he looked very impressive.
29:31And Nell,
29:31very good indeed.
29:34So far so good
29:35for Nell and Hatton.
29:37Well,
29:37Nell is taking no chances,
29:39is he?
29:41Absolutely launching it over here,
29:43but he's going to get unstuck soon
29:46as he's getting closer and closer
29:48to the upright.
29:49He needs to recalibrate
29:50and that wasn't it.
29:53No,
29:53and
29:54Hatton managed to hit it as well
29:56but got it over.
29:58No,
29:59got it wrong with Hatton.
30:01Goodness me,
30:01rolls it over the bar.
30:04Two in a row he did that.
30:05Impressive.
30:06This might be a metre too far,
30:08I think.
30:09Not sure what that little dance was,
30:11but I enjoyed it.
30:12And then...
30:13There's a man who knows
30:16when he's beaten.
30:18Goodness me.
30:19Well,
30:19great work.
30:20And Hatton,
30:21a big surprise there.
30:23I'm not sure this needed a replay.
30:26Yeah.
30:27He's having a little joke
30:28with the referees
30:28who stopped him throwing them
30:30with one arm in the warm-up.
30:32Said,
30:32no,
30:32no,
30:33that's not allowed.
30:34Well,
30:34that's 1844.06
30:36for Lucas Hatton.
30:38And eight also for
30:39Rayna Nell.
30:4029.41.
30:44Could have been second.
30:45Yeah,
30:45time matters.
30:47Nell was very quick indeed.
30:48He could have been quicker.
30:49He definitely did a bit of ball watching
30:51as they went over each time.
30:53He did what?
30:56So,
30:57third place for Lucas Hatton,
30:59which keeps him
30:59in the qualifying picture.
31:01Rayna Nell
31:01impressing again in second,
31:03but it's Shane Flowers
31:04who takes his
31:05second event win.
31:06He's with Michelle.
31:07Shane,
31:08another event win for you.
31:10Second overall
31:12in the group.
31:13What's going through your mind?
31:14I'll be honest,
31:15I'm not happy with that.
31:16I'm happy to take the five points
31:18and the event win in my group,
31:19but I've done this event
31:21nine times now
31:22in a competition.
31:22I've never lost,
31:23never missed a bag,
31:24so to break that streak
31:25sucks,
31:26but I'll take the five points.
31:28Sat in second now
31:29going into the last event
31:30and I just want to get
31:31in that final,
31:31so I'll take it
31:33and I'll use any kind
31:35of aggression or mood
31:36that I've got
31:36onto the last event
31:37and I'll make sure I send it.
31:39Absolutely.
31:39We look forward to seeing you in it.
31:41Thank you, everyone.
31:41Thank you, Shane.
31:43Well,
31:43with just one event to go,
31:44it's Rayna Nell
31:45who leads the way
31:46on his debut,
31:47three points clear of Shane,
31:48with Lucas Hatton,
31:49Shane's closest challenger,
31:51one and a half points
31:52further back.
31:54In the news, meanwhile,
31:55Matthias Kieloskowski
31:55withdrawing from the competition
31:57due to illness.
32:00Four men remain to battle
32:01in our final event
32:02for those two qualifying places.
32:05We'll get rolling
32:06with the stones
32:06when we return
32:07on the SPD
32:08World's Strongest Man.
32:17Welcome back to Sacramento.
32:19It's the conclusion
32:20of Group 3
32:21of the 2025
32:22SPD
32:23World's Strongest Man.
32:25Two places
32:25in the grand final
32:26are at stake
32:27with just one more event to go,
32:29the Natural Stone Medley.
32:33This,
32:34a time trial
32:35of ancient origins,
32:36features four stones
32:37of varying shapes,
32:39sizes,
32:39and weight
32:40to be pressed,
32:41shouldered,
32:41carried,
32:42and loaded
32:42inside 90 seconds.
32:44Lying in fourth over Auburn,
32:47still with an outside chance
32:48of qualifying,
32:49Evans' Nana,
32:50the Ghanaian gladiator,
32:52was the first man out.
32:55Sadly,
32:56Evans could only press
32:57the opening 123-kilo stone,
33:00and that means
33:01his chances of progress
33:02are all but done.
33:03Hatton,
33:07Flowers,
33:07and Nell
33:08are the three
33:08remaining hopefuls.
33:10Two spots in the grand final
33:11are up for grabs,
33:12but we'll take them
33:13for the finale
33:14of Group 3.
33:15Let's hand you back
33:16to Colin and Danny.
33:17Representing the United States
33:23Well,
33:23big things
33:24expected
33:24of Lucas Hatton.
33:28Extremely good press.
33:30Yes,
33:31well said.
33:32And the first section
33:33of this stone medley
33:34is really all about
33:35the press.
33:36You've got this
33:36rectangle of stone
33:38up to your chest
33:39and then
33:39try and get your grip,
33:41and that's the tricky bit.
33:42If you can get that,
33:44you'll have no problems
33:45throwing 125 kilos
33:47overhead.
33:50Well,
33:50up it goes.
33:51Locks it out.
33:52Drops it.
33:54Shoulder carry.
33:57Yes,
33:58you've just got to
33:58lift this
33:59over 150 kilos
34:02of stone
34:03up to your shoulder.
34:05It's a sort of
34:06giant sausage shape.
34:08He's struggling
34:09to get his arms
34:09around this.
34:10It's very wide.
34:10It's an interesting
34:12way to attack it.
34:14Lengthways.
34:17Probably the best
34:17way to get it
34:18up to your thighs.
34:23He's very sweaty
34:24here.
34:25It's very hot,
34:25and he's
34:26maybe just struggling
34:27a little bit
34:28with his grip.
34:29You can see he's got
34:29little tacky towels
34:30tucked into his socks.
34:32This helps you stick
34:33up to these stones
34:34a bit.
34:35Really struggling
34:35to work this out.
34:41There we go,
34:42tacky towels.
34:44This is pine resin.
34:46Add a little bit
34:47of tack to the stone
34:48as he tries to grip it.
34:49Here we go.
34:50Remember,
34:50he's got 90 seconds,
34:51so he's starting
34:52to run out of time.
34:53Ted left.
34:55He's beaten.
34:56He can't work it out.
34:58That's that
34:59for Lucas Hatton.
35:00One in 16.72.
35:02Ladies and gentlemen,
35:03I'm sure your appreciation.
35:04One stone in 16.72.
35:06One stone in 16.72.
35:07Lucas Hatton.
35:08Yes, I mean,
35:08he just couldn't get it.
35:10I think it's to do
35:11with the sheer width of it.
35:12Let's not forget
35:13the weight of it.
35:14You know,
35:15it's nearly 350 pounds
35:16of stone.
35:17It's awkward.
35:18Very wide.
35:19Flower.
35:19Has opportunity
35:21opened up
35:23for Shane Flowers?
35:26Yes,
35:26and he also knows
35:27the parameters
35:28that opportunity comes in.
35:29He's really got to do this
35:31faster than Evans now.
35:33Now,
35:33this first stone,
35:34and that was around
35:34about 13 seconds.
35:36So let's see
35:36how he gets on with it.
35:38Doesn't have much
35:38fumble time with it,
35:39that's for sure.
35:41He gets this up quickly.
35:43He's in the final.
35:43I think he's in.
35:45He gets the down signal,
35:46does he?
35:46Yes.
35:47Yes.
35:48Okay,
35:49so Shane Flowers
35:50will be in the final
35:52of World's Strongest Man,
35:53and now
35:54it's about doing
35:55as much as he can
35:56to get as many points
35:57as he can.
35:58Yes,
35:59I mean,
35:59the equivalent
36:00of the first event
36:00of the final
36:01is those who make it
36:03into the final
36:03exactly what they did
36:05in the heat.
36:06So,
36:06the leading man
36:07will start the final
36:08with 10 points.
36:10And if he can do well here,
36:13this is an awfully
36:14tricky event.
36:16Oh,
36:16did he get that?
36:17Not sure he did.
36:18I'd rather like
36:19Tom Stoltman
36:20in the other heat.
36:21He,
36:21uh,
36:22still would feel
36:23a bit faint
36:23and went down.
36:25That's a really hard event.
36:26It really is,
36:27that stony shoulder.
36:28He's all right,
36:29smiling.
36:30And I don't think
36:31Magnus is going to let him
36:32have another go.
36:32I think that's probably it.
36:34Ladies and gentlemen,
36:35through to his first
36:36SBD.
36:37Well,
36:37he did it.
36:37World's Strongest Man final,
36:40Shane Flowers.
36:41Another Brit in the final.
36:44Shane Flowers.
36:47He did enough
36:48and he did it well.
36:48One stone at a time
36:49of 11.38.
36:52And he's through
36:52to the SBD.
36:54World's Strongest Man.
36:55It was emotional
36:55whether he's still seeing stars.
36:57Because right there,
36:58he was almost out the game.
37:00And, uh,
37:01ditched the stone.
37:02He knew he was going down.
37:03Great moment.
37:06There's his dad,
37:06Graham,
37:07who's been to all
37:08of his big contests,
37:09supporting him all along.
37:11His journey in Strongman.
37:17Big moment.
37:18Well done, Shane.
37:22Ray O'Neill, then.
37:24Last to go.
37:26He's a smart man.
37:28He's been studying.
37:31Ready?
37:31Yes, sir.
37:32On the whistle.
37:33The maths computation
37:34of who's going to make it
37:36into the final.
37:37And, uh,
37:37he can't miss out now.
37:39He's absolutely guaranteed
37:40to be in.
37:41But this,
37:42it's all about gathering points
37:44for that grand final now.
37:46Don't!
37:46It'll be compared to
37:47the likes of Tom Stoltman
37:49and Mitchell Hooper
37:50who won their heats
37:51before him.
37:52So we head into that.
37:54And, uh,
37:55a good result here.
37:56He chucks that up
37:57like a sack of tennis.
37:58No problem at all.
37:59That's what I meant
37:59when he's been studying.
38:00He's been working this out.
38:02And that was
38:03very easy for him.
38:06Ray O'Neill on the
38:07Husserfelt stone now.
38:09It's been made
38:10in a mould
38:11to be similar
38:12to the famous
38:14Icelandic carrying stone.
38:16Around about 181,
38:1782 kilos,
38:18400 pounds.
38:19And he finishes that
38:21with ease
38:21onto the big daddy
38:22at the end here,
38:23the tombstone.
38:24He's seen Mitchell Hooper
38:29do this.
38:32Goodness me.
38:34Let's see if he can match.
38:35Yes, he can!
38:37Almost threw it over.
38:38Yeah.
38:38That was almost
38:40200 kilograms
38:41of dead stone.
38:44So impressive.
38:45Well, his own family
38:46seems stunned there.
38:49As if they can't believe it either.
38:51This guy is very special.
38:5262 seconds for all four.
38:54Is there anything
38:55he can't do?
38:56He just seems to have
38:59all of the abilities
39:01needed for a top strongman.
39:02He's going to be
39:02a danger in the final.
39:06So it's Ray O'Neill,
39:08arguably the story
39:09of this year's competition
39:10so far,
39:11who wins Group 3,
39:13charging through
39:13those four stones
39:14in a little over a minute.
39:17Meanwhile,
39:17an emotional Shane Flowers
39:19takes second spot
39:20and becomes the third Brit
39:21to qualify
39:22for this year's grand final.
39:24He's with Michelle.
39:26Shane,
39:28you did it!
39:30Oh, God.
39:31Don't cry.
39:31Don't cry.
39:32It's OK.
39:34It's been...
39:35My world's strongest, man.
39:36Journey's been
39:37a rollercoaster promotion.
39:40And they're hired by the fact
39:41that I'm really homesick
39:43at the moment.
39:45My little boy's back home.
39:46He's not very well.
39:48You know, my missus
39:48is holding down the fort.
39:50But I woke up this morning
39:51and thought,
39:52you know,
39:52I'm going to make the most
39:53of my absence
39:53and this opportunity.
39:55I'm going to make it worthwhile.
39:57And I've done it.
39:58So,
39:59that's for you, Ronnie.
40:01Love you, mate.
40:03How incredible is that
40:04your family,
40:05they're at home,
40:05they're supporting you.
40:06They are your motivation.
40:08You've done it.
40:08You've reached the final.
40:10Oh, I can't believe it.
40:11I've thought about this
40:12for three years.
40:14Ups and downs.
40:16Thought about quitting,
40:17but because of my support network,
40:20my dad,
40:21my wife,
40:23everybody,
40:24everybody,
40:25thank you.
40:26This is for them.
40:26It's not me.
40:27It's all for them.
40:29You can tell just how special
40:31this is.
40:32The emotion is there.
40:34Are you going to be
40:35channeling that now
40:36when you go into these
40:37next events
40:38within the final?
40:39Yeah,
40:40my body feels really good.
40:42I've never felt
40:43this strong.
40:45The groups were harder
40:46than what I thought,
40:47but this world's strongest man
40:49is undoubtedly
40:50the hardest year
40:51it's ever been.
40:51It's the most competitive
40:53and to make my return,
40:54to make the final
40:55on this year
40:56with that group,
40:57I'm so happy
40:58and I'm revved up
40:59for the final.
41:00You deserve it, Shane.
41:01Congratulations.
41:02Thank you, everybody.
41:04What a feeling.
41:05I can't believe it.
41:06So what a great day
41:09for a great Briton.
41:10Shane Flowers
41:11taking second place,
41:13going to the final,
41:14joined by that
41:14South African surprise,
41:16the powerhouse,
41:17Rayne O'Neill.
41:19Rayne O'Neill,
41:20congratulations.
41:21You're through to the final
41:22and you're having fun.
41:23Yeah, it's amazing.
41:24I love the sport.
41:25You're having an incredible
41:26year as well.
41:26You got married, what,
41:27two months ago today?
41:29Yesterday was our
41:30two-month anniversary.
41:31Amazing.
41:32What do you make
41:32of this guy, Eddie?
41:33He only started competing
41:34when, two years ago?
41:34Phenomenal, yeah.
41:35You've been in the sport
41:36two years now,
41:37Strongman Champions League.
41:38Yeah, I still count
41:39my marriage in months,
41:40so let's do it with Strongman.
41:41So I think it's
41:42two years and three months.
41:43Two years and three months
41:44and you're here
41:45at the World's Strongest Man,
41:46top ten in the world.
41:47What aspirations
41:48have you got into Strongman?
41:50Yes, it's still new,
41:50so I just take it
41:51next competition at a time.
41:53I mean, everyone wants
41:54to win the World's Strongest Man,
41:55so that's the ultimate goal.
41:56But I mean,
41:57the path today,
41:57I'll just keep on improving.
41:59Final events
42:00in the final,
42:01good for you?
42:02Yeah, fairly good.
42:04One event I've never done,
42:05but yeah,

42:07What have you never done?
42:08Herkley's old.
42:09Herkley's old.

42:12I've got to say,
42:12Reino,
42:12not only are you through,
42:13but you've done it
42:14in real style.
42:15You kind of match
42:15the performances
42:16of two of the really big names
42:17who've already gone
42:18in Mitchell Hooper
42:19and Tom Stolman.
42:21Are you surprised
42:21at just how well
42:22you've been able to adapt
42:23to this level of Strongman?
42:25Yeah, we'll see.
42:25I mean,
42:26still five events to go,
42:27so I've never done
42:28as long of a competition.
42:30But up to this point,
42:31I'm fairly happy
42:32with what I did.
42:32Yeah, I'm not surprised.
42:34Congratulations.

42:35in the final.

42:42He's back after four years
42:44away from World's Strongest Man.
42:46Can he get past,
42:47though,
42:47the likes of
42:48Maxime Boudreau
