Were it not for these sacrifices, murders, and other deaths, Star Wars would look very different.

00:00From the cutting down of less high-profile Jedi Council members,
00:04to many a valiant sacrifice to give our main heroes a chance at victory.
00:10And with a respectful salute to the R Star Wars post that inspired this very list,
00:15I am Gareth, this is WhatCultureStarWars,
00:18and here are 10 minor character deaths that change Star Wars forever.
00:23Number 10. Yaddle's death cements Dooku's turn.
00:27Yaddle didn't even utter a single line during her only prequel appearance,
00:32which of course came in Episode 1, The Phantom Menace.
00:35One of the only other members of Yoda's race then mysteriously vanished from the Skywalker saga
00:40by the time of Episode 2, Attack of the Clones,
00:43leaving many to wonder what exactly happened to her in the new canon.
00:47In Legends, she sacrificed herself to save the city of Natan before being replaced on the council by Shaq-T,
00:53but we'll get to her later.
00:54But things were thankfully cleared up in the new canon during the Tales of the Jedi animated series.
01:00Here, Yaddle, voiced by Bryce Dallas Howard,
01:02not only confirmed that not every one of her species chats like Yoda,
01:06but that she also played a vital part in the fall of a certain Jedi master by the name of Dooku.
01:12After stepping down from the council following the Battle of Naboo,
01:16Yaddle would eventually discover that Dooku was working with Darth Sidious on Coruscant.
01:20She'd then offer Dooku a chance to make up for his actions by bringing his new master to justice.
01:25But it was all a bit too late.
01:27Yaddle would ultimately be killed by Qui-Gon Jinn's former master,
01:31a death which cemented the still somewhat conflicted souls turned to the dark side.
01:36And we all know what happened next.
01:37Now, sure, had Dooku taken Yaddle's offer here instead of, you know, murdering her,
01:42there's every chance that Palpatine would have just killed both of them and turned his attention to a new apprentice.
01:46But the years that followed this fateful interaction would have certainly looked entirely different
01:51without Dooku leading the Separatists or walking on the dark side.
01:56And while we're talking about minor characters in Star Wars, I've got a quick question for you.
02:00Who is your favorite minor Star Wars character of all time?
02:04You let me know in the comments section down below.
02:06Number 9.
02:06Paige Tico's sacrifice allows the Resistance to escape Dakar.
02:10Now, easily the most memorable deaths that went down during Episode 8, The Last Jedi,
02:15belonged to a sliced-in-half Supreme Leader Snoke,
02:18and a Luke Skywalker who'd just used all of his remaining strength to project himself across the galaxy.
02:24But there was another death which was perhaps just as impactful as the end of Skywalker and Snoke,
02:30giving her life during the opening moments of this middle sequel.
02:34Paige Tico's brave actions as the Resistance attempted to evacuate Dakar
02:38and get away from the First Order proved that even the smallest characters could change this galaxy forever.
02:45After being knocked out in the middle of the space battle,
02:48Paige eventually comes to and chose to use what energy she had left to set off the bombs and blow up a dreadnought
02:54as her ship fell into the flames.
02:56It was this heroic final act that gave the Resistance the opening to successfully flee from the enemy.
03:02For a bit, anyway.
03:03Obviously, the First Order would end up catching up to the Resistance due to their hyperspace tracking technology.
03:08But had Rose Tico's sister not paid the ultimate price here,
03:12there wouldn't have been a Resistance to chase at all.
03:15We salute you, Paige.
03:16Number 8, Shark T's deleted scene's death could have changed Starkiller's future.
03:22Now, this is an interesting one,
03:23because this is a case of not one, but two deaths of a character
03:27resulting in one hell of a change to Star Wars history.
03:30Within the Legends continuity,
03:32it's revealed that Jedi Master Shark T not only survived Order 66,
03:37but that she also went on to train Padawan Maris,
03:40Brood, and some Force-sensitive natives on Felucia.
03:43Then, during Star Wars The Force Unleashed,
03:45a 2008 video game developed by LucasArts,
03:48T eventually collides with Darth Vader's apprentice Starkiller,
03:52with the one-time Jedi Council member attempting to guide the Dark Side Force wielder
03:57down a different path.
03:58Had a number of scenes not been cut from Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith, however,
04:03Shark T's interaction with Galen Marek would never have occurred.
04:08T would be killed in two separate deleted scenes in that prequel,
04:11first by General Grievous at the start of the picture,
04:14and then by a recently turned Anakin Skywalker during the Order 66 attack on the Jedi Temple.
04:20Now, that latter death is actually classed as part of the new canon,
04:23meaning that T never ended up training more lightsiders in this version of Star Wars history.
04:28So, had that death, or the grievous one, been similarly made a part of the expanded universe continuity
04:34all those years ago,
04:36then T's important duel with Starkiller, who would kill her before eventually seeing the light,
04:41wouldn't have been possible, changing legend's history in the process.
04:45Number 7. If Coleman Trebor hadn't died, Count Dooku may have been stopped earlier.
04:50Yaddle wasn't the only person who came oh-so-very-close to stopping Count Dooku
04:55way earlier than a certain Anakin Skywalker.
04:58Remember in Episode 2, Attack of the Clones, when the Jedi arrived to help Obi-Wan Kenobi,
05:02Padme Amidala, and the aforementioned Chosen One within the Petronaki Arena on Geonosis?
05:08There was definitely a moment there when it looked like one of those Force-sensitive warriors
05:11was on the verge of stopping the Clone Wars before they even properly began.
05:16As the Jedi fended off waves of droids within the arena,
05:19the absolute stud that was Jedi Master Coleman Trebor decided to head right for Dooku himself on a balcony.
05:26Now, it's not 100% clear whether he was going to try to simply arrest the former Jedi
05:31or strike him down right there and then.
05:34But either way, Jango Fett soon arrived to put an end to the Virk hero.
05:37Mace Windu would at least avenge his ally by brutally killing the bounty hunter.
05:41However, that doesn't change the fact that this minor character was agonizingly close
05:46to perhaps preventing the deaths of countless across the galaxy,
05:49and his own demise allowed Dooku to live long enough to lead the Separatists
05:53in a galaxy-changing war against the Republic.
05:56Oh, and Trebor's death also opened up a seat on the Jedi Council,
05:59one that would eventually be taken by none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi.
06:03So there's that as well.
06:04Number 6, Rats Tyrell's death led to pod racing being outlawed.
06:09He also could have won the Boon to Eve race.
06:10He may not be the first person that you think of when the subject of Episode 1
06:14The Phantom Menace's Boon to Eve classic pops up in conversation,
06:18but never forget that the death of poor Rats Tyrell in that race seriously affected this galaxy.
06:24So first of all, the background racer who was incredibly popular on his homeworld of Aline
06:29due to his racing career was determined to stop the serial cheater Sebulba from winning that Tatooine race.
06:36I'd worry not for a malfunctioning accelerator.
06:38Who knows, maybe a driven Tyrell could have been the one to earn victory here.
06:43A win that would have seen Qui-Gon lose his bet,
06:45Anakin Skywalker left on the desert planet as a slave,
06:49and Watto bring home a shiny new ship.
06:51Instead, Tyrell collided with a collection of stalactites,
06:54and, well, kaboom.
06:56It turns out that the death of this racer also led to Rats' son, Delon, creating the Rats Tyrell Foundation.
07:03This organization would fight to expose the criminal and perilous elements found within the sport,
07:09and even managed to get pod racing outlawed in the core worlds,
07:12which led to viewership massively declining.
07:14It's safe to say, then, that the galaxy would look very different had Tyrell not tragically died
07:19in front of his own traumatized family.
07:22Oh, just look at him.

07:33Number 5, Wade Sacrificed Himself for Obi-Wan and Leia
07:37The name Wade Rossellian may not immediately spring to mind
07:41when talking about heroic sacrifices in the galaxy far, far away,
07:45but it definitely should, people.
07:47Because if it wasn't for this pilot's fearless actions during the Obi-Wan Kenobi series,
07:52both the titular Jedi Master and a certain Princess Leia may have been doomed.
07:57You see, during part 4 of the show,
07:59after managing to find a young Leia within the Fortress Inquisitorious,
08:02Tala, Durith, Kenobi, and the Princess are surrounded,
08:06and look like they're about to be executed by the third sister, Reva,
08:09and a group of stormtroopers.
08:11However, just in the nick of time,
08:14Sully Stark and Wade, two members of the Path,
08:17sweep in with a pair of T-47 airspeeders to rescue them.
08:21But Wade's attempts to distract Reva so Sully had enough time to pick up our heroes
08:25ultimately led to his tragic death,
08:28with Wade being blown to bits by Reva after she threw an explosive at his ship.
08:32Charming.
08:33Reva and Darth Vader would still track down Kenobi and co.
08:36due to a homing beacon being planted in Leia's droid,
08:39but if Wade hadn't risked it all against the enemy here,
08:42it very much looked like two franchise icons and a one-time Imperial officer
08:47would not have made it out of this fortress alive.
08:50Number 4,
08:50Zam Wessel's death leads Obi-Wan Kenobi to Jango Fett and Kamino.
08:55While it did look like Count Dooku was the face of the Separatists,
08:59and the Galactic Republic was being led by Chancellor Sheev Palpatine,
09:03the latter was actually in control of both sides all along.
09:07And it's during Episode 2, Attack of the Clones,
09:09when the eventual Emperor begins executing the next phase of his brilliant plan to control the galaxy,
09:16a plan which also involves the attempted assassination of Senator Padme Amidala.
09:20But the more you analyse this part of the plot,
09:23the more you realise that had one part of it not gone the precise way it did in the movie,
09:28then things may have turned out quite differently indeed.
09:31After failing once again to kill Amidala on Coruscant,
09:35bounty hunter Zam Wessel is herself hunted down by Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
09:41She's then suddenly killed by her employer Jango Fett before she could rat on him.
09:45And were it not for that murder and exactly how it occurred,
09:49Jango firing his Kamino saberdart at this minor character,
09:52then Kenobi wouldn't have ended up conveniently finding Kamino and the secret clone army.
09:58You know, the clone army who would eventually fight for the Republic, just as Palp's planned.
10:02So would the Jedi have eventually found the army ordered by Sifo Dias without Wessel's passing?
10:08Perhaps they'd have stumbled on it some other way.
10:10Or Zam could have even given them the information they needed if she wasn't, you know.
10:14Either way, it definitely feels like Palpatine's secret plan to rule the galaxy
10:18would have unfolded differently without this death in Coruscant's underworld,
10:23with the secret Sith perhaps having to think of a new cunning way
10:26to lead the Jedi to their eventual means of destruction.
10:30Number 3, the Rebels who gave their lives to get the Death Star plans to Leia.
10:34The closing stages of Rogue One, a Star Wars story, involved Darth Vader, well,
10:39going full Darth Vader.
10:41Ripping through a ton of nameless rebel soldiers,
10:43this pierced-off Sith Lord would evidently stop at nothing to get his cybernetic hand
10:48on the Death Star plans that had just been stolen by the good guys.
10:52And it was during this properly intense sequence when many a Rebel decided to do all they could
10:57to prevent the one-time Anakin Skywalker from doing precisely that.
11:01If they all just put their hands up, surrendered, and handed those all-important blueprints back
11:06to the Empire here, when faced with this terrifying figure,
11:10well, there goes the Rebel Alliance's hopes of taking out this evil organization.
11:14They didn't, though.
11:15This lot bravely blasted their weapons at Vader,
11:18and were viciously impaled and choked by the cyborg as they desperately passed the plans
11:24from Rebel to Rebel on the profundity.
11:26And these courageous sacrifices would ultimately lead to the destruction
11:30of the Empire's big, bad superweapon.
11:32Along with...
11:33Number two, Mithil accidentally saves Vader and sets Luke on the path to becoming a Jedi.
11:39In the wake of the Rebel Alliance successfully getting away with those Death Star plans,
11:43and Princess Leia Organa eventually being rescued by Luke Skywalker and the gang,
11:48the Rebels mounted a successful attack on the Empire's secret weapon.
11:52Just as Luke flying an X-Wing was getting close enough to blow that superweapon to smithereens,
11:58though, his secret father, Darth Vader, following behind in a tie-advanced,
12:02successfully locked on to his baby boy.
12:05But right before he could shoot down his offspring, Han Solo thankfully arrived to save the day.
12:10However, he wasn't technically responsible for knocking Vader away from his son.
12:15Instead, it was actually the pilot in the TIE Fighter next to the Sith Lords who panicked
12:20and accidentally nudged his superior out of the way shortly after another tie had been
12:25blasted by the Millennium Falcon, and that evasive maneuver would lead to his own demise too.
12:29In doing this, the pilot, actually known as Mithil Mawler, did manage to save Vader from
12:35the incoming Falcon, but also unintentionally saved Luke from being murdered too, which obviously
12:41meant that he could then go on to blow up the Death Star and eventually become a Jedi.
12:45In other words, one moment of madness completely changed this galaxy.
12:49That Mithil A, what's he like?
12:51Number 1, Arvel Krinnid bought Lando enough time to blow up the Death Star 2.
12:57From one Death Star destruction to another, and ending this list on one final vital sacrifice,
13:03the name Arvel Krinnid isn't given the respect it unquestionably deserves.
13:07If it weren't for this lion-hearted rebel green leader, would the Alliance have been able to
13:12successfully take down the Emperor's second destructive superweapon, and move one step
13:17closer to taking down the Galactic Empire once and for all? Possibly not.
13:22With Lando Calrissian and a few other fighters entering the Death Star 2 to blow it up from within,
13:27Admiral Ackbar knew that the Rebels outside needed to buy them some time, and hold off the rest of the
13:33Empire's forces. And it's here when all firepower was concentrated on the super star destroyer known
13:38as the Executor. Not long after the bridge's deflector shields were knocked out, a Krinnid
13:43who'd been hit by a laser shot soon realized he was done for. But with this final act, he just about
13:49managed to steer his crashing ship into said bridge, taking out everyone within it during this epic
13:55sacrifice. The Executor then lost power and smashed into the Death Star 2, with green leader's last breath
14:01being a major turning point in the Battle of Endor, and an act which helped give Lando and Wedge
14:07Antilles the time needed to destroy the second Death Star. After playing a crucial part in changing
14:12the galaxy and making it a safer place, he was posthumously rewarded with the Medal of Alderaan
14:18for his bravery. Well deserved, I say.
