00:00Check it out, you guys.
00:03The Stealth Cat is back.
00:05That's right.
00:05We told you.
00:06We warned you we'd bring it back, and we did.
00:0995 Stealth getting stuck with the Hemi Red Eye,
00:12making almost 800 horsepower.
00:14Well, you think about it.
00:15It's a red eye for a red car, hitting them red lines, man.
00:18Talking RPMs.
00:19This thing is going to fly.
00:25You know, for anybody that missed it on previous shows,
00:27we'll catch up a little bit.
00:28We got a friend.
00:29He might have a problem.
00:32Screw loose.
00:33Yeah, with this thing sitting in his yard for a while.
00:35He had some crazy ideas.
00:36He's got us roped in to helping him out.
00:38So we have grafted in a charger, kind of mid-front section here.
00:43So subframe, towers, rack and pinion, all this stuff here,
00:48out of a charger.
00:49You know, a 2014, 2013.
00:51Imagine those type chargers.
00:52And you know what comes in a charger, right?
00:54A Hemi.
00:54Not just the Hemi, right?
00:56You know what's on top of this Hemi?
00:58Just a big 2.7 liter supercharger shoving enough, you know, air in there
01:02to make near 800 horsepower in a car that weighs 1,900, 2,000 pounds.
01:08It means nothing.
01:09It's going to be a screamer.
01:10Dude.
01:10It's going to fly.
01:11Yeah.
01:11Yeah.
01:12We've got to make some room.
01:13A lot of room.
01:13Yeah.
01:14Yeah.
01:14Right?
01:15You can see we're cutting out here for just the whole powertrain to sit back.
01:18You know, a couple of 2 1⁄2, 3 inches in here.
01:20So we'll pocket this out.
01:21We've just got to take a little bit of this, you know, horizontal flat panel back a little
01:26bit.
01:27And then down here, you've got, you can see the sheet metal front.
01:29But we also have kind of a kick floor on the back, so it's forming a three-dimensional
01:33shape.
01:34So we're going to have to cut in from the inside and cut from the outside to make that
01:37pocket.
01:38So let's get our engine in here and see how we're doing.
01:40And from there, we'd kind of start making our tunnel.
01:43Whew.
01:44All right, man.
01:45There you have it.
01:46I think we made this hole a little more Hellcat friendly, thanks to some Carlyle tools.
01:51I got to tell you, man, we threw just about every one of those tools we had at it, from
01:54the hammer, the pry bar, the grinder, and it's needed in here.
01:58Because you find structure where you don't have it.
01:59I cut through, you know, an exhaust hanger, I think, back over here.
02:03But this hole, hopefully, fingers crossed, will take that big old red-eye engine.
02:08Next thing, test bit, which is always fun.
02:11We're almost ready to the back lid here, so we got one little bit.
02:18Dude, I mean, it's like it came from the factory.
02:20I mean, clearly, we got all the room for the motor.
02:22However, we'll see how much cutting we do, right?
02:25Yeah, yeah.
02:26It's going to be interesting.
02:27However, as you guys know, you know what makes any job so much easier?
02:30The right tool.
02:31I mean, did you see the way my man Cav's sitting under there?
02:33Whew.
02:34Like, standing down a chimney.
02:35It almost shot right off the other side.
02:36Yeah, man.
02:37Crazy.
02:38And that's because it's got a kickstand.
02:41It's got crazy cool casters.
02:43Whoa!
02:44Look at this thing, man.
02:45First in the industry.
02:46Yeah.
02:47And what's cool, I like it.
02:48Super durable.
02:49500-pound capacity.
02:50Double wide.
02:51So you can get your significant other in there onto the car with you.
02:55I'm talking relationship building.
02:57I don't know how he works on cars, man, but that's not happening to my side.
02:59Hey, we're not here to judge.
03:00That's not happening to my side.
03:01But just in case.
03:02Honestly, when it comes to tools, having the right tool, how many times have we been saved
03:07by tools?
03:08Having the right tool is key.
03:09And with Carlisle tools, man, I'm telling you.
03:11Hey, take this.
03:12All right?
03:13Everybody's seen a ratcheting, you know, boxing wrench before, but they're so different,
03:17man.
03:18180 teeth.
03:19You can't go anywhere without hearing that little click, click, click, click.
03:22And there's something else, man.
03:23How many times does a boxing wrench strip the bolt?
03:26These things, you have these, I don't know, these gnarlings in here, and they just grab
03:30a bolt and torque onto it.
03:32Man, believe me.
03:33I've used this in my own shop.
03:34Rounded bolts.
03:35They can't hold up to this thing, man.
03:36It bites.
03:37Yeah, I got a number for you to remember.
03:38Yes.
03:39Two.
03:40Two is two degrees.
03:41That's all it takes.
03:42Because there's 180 teeth.
03:43Right.
03:44Just a little movement.
03:45And you can walk out a bolt in a tight spot, man.
03:47Get you out of a jam.
03:48I have another word for you.
03:50Slim.
03:51That slim profile, it's like me.
03:52Yeah.
03:53Right?
03:54Not necessarily him, but more like me.
03:55Right?
03:56Super slim profile fits anywhere you need to get.
03:58All right?
03:59All right.
04:00We're going to keep collecting green around here, so just get used to it.
04:02Because, man, every time you turn around, we need something else.
04:05Yeah.
04:06We're going to pick it up.
04:07We're going to use it.
04:08You know how it is, man.
04:09You got needs in your shop.
04:10Get them tools and maybe a creeper for your significant other.
04:13All right.
04:14Back to the work.
04:15All right.
04:16Thinking a little bit ahead here on this project, getting our mind wrapping around a few steps.
04:23One of which is we've got to replace this firewall that we cut out because, you know, attached to it, at least, was the original throttle pedal.
04:30So we've got part of that figured out with a new one.
04:33This is going to be an electronic throttle pedal.
04:35It's going to go along with the drive-by-wire throttle.
04:37And if you've never seen one before, because it's usually way up under there, it's a normal pedal, but inside here is some sort of rheostat or position sensor.
04:47The computer sees that and then puts some kind of a factor to it on how much to open that throttle.
04:53And as we all know in modern cars, you can get into them and some of them are really saggy on the pedal.
04:58We can plan for it by using something like pedal commander.
05:01So once we mount this, we plug it in, we can use a simple device like this to get 36 different settings between soft sort of eco mode to city to sport to sport plus.
05:14Now, of course, we did a swap here, so this is going to let us dial our car in and our throttle pedal to the driver because every build is different.
05:21Every driver is different.
05:22Now, if you're doing swaps, resto mods, this is huge, the pedal commander, because no matter what you're dropping in, an LS, a Hemi, a Coyote, you can dial yourself in with one of these little bad boys.
05:34All right, let me get back to the rest of this wiring.
05:36Make sure we're sorted and have a game plan.
05:38Get back to it.
05:44Hey, guys, welcome back.
05:47Now, we put our stealth cap to the side.
05:49That's a little bit of kind of fun side work, government work for a buddy.
05:53Now, we're going to jump onto this thing.
05:55Now, this is something you want to miss, right?
05:58Absolutely unique out there.
06:00It's the theme park of hot rodding out here.
06:03Yeah.
06:04It's all about the theme.
06:05And, man, he has worked it from front to back and he's been enjoying the car show scene for a while.
06:10But up here.
06:11And up here.
06:12It's a 50-hour tattoo rack, baby.
06:14Oh.
06:15Yeah.
06:16Nice.
06:17All right, so we roll on the way back, man.
06:19Check out the interior.
06:21Full custom ostrich and alligator, man.
06:24This guy is going from tip to tail.
06:26It's the Wild Kingdom Camaro.
06:28We got ostrich.
06:29We got panther.
06:30We got gator.
06:31Who knows what we're going to find underneath.
06:32It does have some issues, some torque converter problems.
06:35These are kind of notorious for that little shutter.
06:37And that's what we're going to dive in today.
06:39As soon as we knock all the Claire's Boutique off of it.
06:42You know, most people do it backwards.
06:43They put the blower on and they realize, oh, man, I got driveline issues.
06:46I need bigger brakes.
06:47So we're going to actually do it in the correct order.
06:50Knowing that the blower is coming, we're going to get this driveline fix.
06:53Yes.
06:54We're going to add some big stomping power on the brakes so then we can put the blower on day one and go have some fun.
06:59There you go, man.
07:00All right, let's get some brakes action going and let's see what we got under there and do some upgrades.
07:03Come on.
07:07You know, with the worn out brakes on this thing and big power coming, it's a perfect opportunity to upgrade the brakes.
07:13Right.
07:14So Power Stop Man, you guys know we use these guys on just about everything.
07:17It's such an affordable way to get that increase in performance.
07:21Yeah, it truly is an upgrade.
07:23This is a Z26 Street Warrior kit.
07:25It says everything you need.
07:27So let's start with the rotors, right?
07:28You guys have seen a hundred rotors, right?
07:31But here you go.
07:32Drilled, slotted, protected as far as corrosion, got zinc plating.
07:36So all those rotors you see that have all that rust and stuff on the cap, you're not going to see that with this.
07:41Yeah, let's talk about the bite.
07:42Yeah.
07:43So it's all about the magic in the pads.
07:44These are carbon fiber ceramic.
07:46They got a higher coefficient of friction than the OE, so they're going to bite.
07:49They're going to give you better stopping power.
07:51They got carbon fiber for the structure, but ceramic, which is great, kind of binding everything together, it doesn't dust up like a semi-metallic, right?
08:00Yeah.
08:01So whenever you have a nice car like this, you get all that stopping power, but you don't get all the dusting every time you go drive.
08:06Dust.
08:07Yeah, we're all familiar with the shims on pads.
08:09They actually help kind of transfer some of that vibration into a frequency we don't hear.
08:14These also have a mass damper on there as well, so super quiet performance as you're really cranking on those brakes.
08:20Something that a lot of people don't realize, brake in is key to that shutter and that sort of feeling you get in the brakes nowadays.
08:27Yeah, and they get the right proper performance.
08:30So you're actually going to transfer some pad material onto the rotor, so it's kind of a pad on pad almost for a lot of that braking performance.
08:38So definitely want to make sure you do a good brake in.
08:40These guys help actually put a little bit of pre-brake in for you to make it faster and easier.
08:45Yeah, it's called thermal scorch.
08:46That allows that braking to happen a lot quicker.
08:49Something else that we like to do, right, every time we do brakes, it's a good opportunity to, yeah, upgrade your windshield wipers as well.
08:57Yeah, these are the power clear.
08:58It's awesome because a lot of times you're having to look up your vehicle, and I got this size, I got this size.
09:03Just, man, when you're ordering brakes, typically you get a pop-up for wipers specific for your vehicle.
09:09Whatever sizes, boom, put them in the car.
09:11Smart.
09:12Hit that checkout and roll with it, man.
09:14Yeah.
09:15All right, let's get this thing on and upgrade it, and we'll keep on moving.
09:20All right, easy work and easy upgrade for just about any vehicle.
09:23We're going to bust out the other side on a brake.
09:25When we come back, stick around.
09:27We're going to dive into that mysterious and voodoo of torque converters as we tear into this transmission.
09:39All right, you guys, welcome back, man.
09:41And, yes, we're on our Camaro, our Panther Camaro.
09:44It's got a big shutter problem in the torque converter, and, man, we're going to attack it.
09:48And I'm going to attack it with some big upgrades from Boss Hog torque converters.
09:51I've got to tell you, man, torque converters are a lot of voodoo and magic for a lot of people.
09:56And here to break it down is Kevin.
09:58Oh, man, that's a lot of pressure.
10:00Because I still have trouble kind of wrapping my head around, but I'm going to do my best here.
10:03So, all right, you've got a torque converter.
10:05We're going to ignore the clutch where we're having some shutter issues.
10:08All right, so we're going to ignore that for just a moment.
10:10So this end, right, it's attached to your flywheel, your flex plate, right?
10:14And so that is driving.
10:15Your engine is turning this sucker, right?
10:18Now, on this far end, we've got this assembly.
10:21So we've got some things inside, but let's skip the things inside for one minute, right?
10:25You've got your stator over here.
10:27So this right here is welded to this guy.
10:31So when that's turning from your engine, this is turning.
10:33So this is really a pump or an impeller, right?
10:36So fluid is coming in, and as this turns, just like a water pump, it's whipping fluid out, right?
10:42Your transmission fluid.
10:43And when you're whipping out with inertia, you're actually creating pressure.
10:46You're turning it into pressure.
10:48So as it whips towards the outside edge, it's flowing out of here.
10:51Now, this is your floating bit inside, right?
10:55So it's got a matching kind of profile.
10:57So that same fluid from the outside is coming in here, looping around, coming in here to your stator, like so.
11:05So that's kind of the motion of it.
11:08And so how does it actually work?
11:10I mean, crudely, think of a propeller on your boat to another propeller.
11:15As you turn this one, this fan will start to turn.
11:18But you're trying to do it in a very efficient way to where, at some point, you're getting about 90% of your downstream to the speed of your upstream, right?
11:28Any loss of energy is fuel economy.
11:31So we've added this clutch.
11:33So input here into the output shaft here, because that's all mated together.
11:39Whew! A lot of complicated details.
11:41We're going to get into more of that after we pull this transmission out.
11:44So stick around.
11:45Get the transmissions out, a little bit of a big job, but not too big a deal.
11:52We're going to start with getting the exhaust out.
11:54So once we've got that dropped out of the way, we can go on to the drive shaft.
11:58Yep.
11:59Cross member, drive shaft.
12:01And then you start attacking the lines in their bell housing boats, which are sometimes tricky to get to.
12:06A really long extension helps tremendously.
12:08Yeah, we've got shifter linkage on the side.
12:10We've got a few connectors on the transmission.
12:12Then we've got to make sure we get those off along with the Christmas trees.
12:15Then the harness is free.
12:17After that, make sure you go in from the starter hole, grab those torque converter bolts out,
12:23because that'll trick you up if you're not paying attention.
12:25Now the thing's ready to kind of wedge back from the engine and drop her down.
12:29All right, with the transmission out, man, Willie's going to pull this thing out.
12:32Try not to make too much mess.
12:34Not bad.
12:35Not bad.
12:36Nice.
12:37We've got Boss Hogg in the house.
12:39We've got the president and owner right over here.
12:41Mm-hmm.
12:42Proud daughter over here.
12:43Yes.
12:44So we've got a little hot rodder, man.
12:45She's 12 and already kicking butt.
12:47Is it true you're running some of the CNC stuff, doing welding?
12:50She built her first Briggs & Stratton engine at like five.
12:52She knows what's up.
12:54So she's going to break down some sort of upgrades from what we have going on right here.
12:59So first, this is a billet front cover.
13:01All right, so big solid chunk.
13:03And you know how to run that CNC, which is awesome.
13:05Look at that.
13:06Big improvement.
13:07What do we have going on here?
13:08This is a clutch.
13:10It's much thicker than a normal one.
13:12The original?
13:13It's like two Toms thicker, right?
13:14Yeah.
13:15Than what the OE has?
13:16Yeah, it's got more surface area here to bite and last longer, which is a known error
13:20state on these factory ones.
13:21Yeah.
13:22So that's cool.
13:23Now what do we got over here?
13:24Nell, you talked about a feature that's happening.
13:26So this is a part of the anti-balloon and plate.
13:29Cool.
13:30It helps the fluid come through.
13:32All right.
13:33And that leads us to this fancy little thing.
13:35You guys have probably seen that before.
13:36That is a...
13:37Stator.
13:38All right.
13:39And you guys have how many?
13:40Eight different types.
13:41Eight different types?
13:42For your application.
13:43Yeah.
13:44So you can tailor them?
13:45Yeah.
13:46Inside that stator is a sprag?
13:47Yes.
13:48A one-way sprag.
13:49Nice.
13:50A one-way sprag.
13:51And guys, you've never seen one before.
13:52It's pretty interesting.
13:53There's a little bit of a compartment and it gets wedged going that way.
13:57So if I turn it this way, those little bearings, they got plenty of room and they can spin and I can rotate.
14:06But if I try to rotate it the other way like this, it won't go because that little roller bearing is getting wedged in that pocket and locks it.
14:16Cool device inside that torque converter with a clutch.
14:19You got to check these guys out, man.
14:21They're one of the biggest torque converter suppliers out there.
14:23They're on, you know, streetcars all the way up to nitro.
14:26Hey, how is it working for Dad?
14:29Um...
14:30You can tell us off camera.
14:31It's...
14:32Yeah.
14:33It's pretty, um, I would say, pretty fun.
14:35Yeah, there we go.
14:36Yeah, yeah, yeah, right on.
14:37There you go.
14:38All right.
14:39So you're gonna help us...
14:40...converters, y'all.
14:41Fill this up, get it in that transmission, maybe put a couple of wrenches on getting it back in?
14:44Yes.
14:45All right.
14:46We just recruited a new helper.
14:47Yes, indeed, man.
14:48All right.
14:49All right, that's Sonora.
14:50Let's go.
14:51Let's talk.
14:52Let's get her together.
14:56All right.
14:57So Nor is gonna fill up the converter, something that's always smart to do before you stick
15:00it in.
15:01And I'm gonna clean up this transmission using a CRC parts cleaner and degreaser.
15:05Now this stuff is awesome.
15:0714 times stronger than what you're normally gonna find out there.
15:10You just spray it on.
15:12Woo-hoo.
15:13Wipe it down.
15:14You know the drill.
15:15Powerjet nozzle.
15:16Awesome.
15:17Drives right up.
15:18Clean.
15:19Ready to rock.
15:20Get that new converter in.
15:21We'll get rolling.
15:22There we go.
15:23Converter in.
15:24All right, you guys.
15:25Check this out.
15:26It's from Seymour.
15:27It's their 2K protective coating kit.
15:29It's basically a spray-on kit that gives your truck beds or any surface a durable, professional-looking
15:39finish.
15:40This kit uses a unique hybrid polymer resin that combines a professional finish with easy
15:46DIY application.
15:47This blend gives you strength, flexibility, and long-lasting protection against serious
15:52wear and tear.
15:53Now one thing I really like, you can easily control thickness and texture.
15:57If you want a grittier finish for more grip on your truck bed or a smoother feel, Seymour's
16:03coating makes it easy to control.
16:05Plus, it's simple to mix and spray, so you get that professional-grade finish without needing
16:10a shop setup, and it's flexible and tough to withstand scrapes and impacts.
16:15It's a great option for truck beds, trailers, toolboxes, anywhere you need a durable, protective
16:20coating that looks professionally done.
16:22Look, guys, when it comes to replacement parts, you need a couple things, right?
16:25You need quality, reliability, and a part that fits the very first time.
16:30That, my friends, is B-Pro Auto.
16:32Yeah, B-Pro Auto Parts are OE-backed, warranty-supported, and rigorously tested for reliability and
16:38designed to fit.
16:39They've got a huge selection covering most makes and models, and the parts are in stock
16:44and ready to go.
16:45Competitively priced, too.
16:46You can find them at NextPart, RepairLink, or even at over 3,000 Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep,
16:52and Ram dealers across the U.S. and Canada.
16:54And the website, bproautoparts.com, makes it super easy to find exactly what you need.
17:00Six different ways to search from batteries and alternators to oil, fuel pumps, and even
17:05strut assemblies.
17:06B-Pro Auto, quality-built parts to fit, work, and last.
17:11All right, this is really cool, because there's so many ways you can use this out-of-sight
17:15Bluetooth receiver on your classic car or your custom build.
17:19You can actually use it with your existing radio or mount it in a hidden location to give
17:23your radio Bluetooth capabilities.
17:25Yeah, I love the fact that you can mount this anywhere you want in a custom build and not
17:29have a radio at all.
17:30Just pair your phone and play modern sounds with modern amplification.
17:34That's super cool.
17:35Now, the Mark series is a simple installation and setup, and it's got different models for
17:39running two through four speakers with RCA outputs and even models for hands-free calling.
17:45You can use their system in cars, golf carts, boats, basically anywhere you Bluetooth tunes.
17:51So find your receiver at outofsightaudio.com.
17:56Now, hey guys, you enjoy podcasts when you're out in the shop, in the garage, maybe rolling
18:00the lawn or commuting to work?
18:01Well, check out the Two Guys Garage podcast.
18:03Man, we get out of the shop, we get behind the scenes on our personal projects, we talk
18:07to builders, racers, everybody in the aftermarket.
18:10It's a lot of fun, you guys should check it out.
18:12I appreciate it so much.
18:25I'm so glad you bought your own car.
18:31Thank you so much.
18:35I just want my kids to be great.
18:41And in order for my kids to be great, I have to be great for them.
18:45It doesn't matter if I'm tired or sick or just struggling.
18:51I have to make sure I set the foundation for my kids to have a good life.
18:57How many hours do you spend on the bus a week?
18:59Oof, 20, 25 hours.
19:02It's a lot, but I have to do what needs to be done, you know?
19:05And the best thing is, all of that changes at the day.
19:09Yeah.
19:10Yeah.
19:11Right?
19:12Yeah.
19:13What a gift.
19:14Thank you so much.
19:16It's beautiful.
19:17I love it.
19:18It's a Chevy Bolt.
19:19So you have a gas engine and some battery hybrid technology.
19:23Okay.
19:24So you have the best of both worlds there.
19:27Thing does scoot.
19:28So I live in the middle of nowhere.
19:30So we give you a couple of goodies.
19:31We give you a mouse blocker, because where I'm at, Max get in the cars.
19:35Okay.
19:36Right?
19:37So I'll give you a little defense against those little punks.
19:39Thank you so much.
19:41Mwah.
19:42All right, you guys, here we are.
19:47This is home base for the Cars for Christmas program.
19:50Both the rooms have lifts, but this is kind of the, you know, sort of kind of jobs we do
19:54right now, replacing a rack of pinion on this Mercury Mariner.
19:57Cars for Christmas, man, we run the gamut.
20:00From sealing the engine up and, you know, replacing a bunch of suspension parts
20:03to, you know, big jobs like transmissions.
20:05We've got it covered.
20:06When you ask people what is Cars for Christmas, they'll say it's, it's freedom
20:11or it's independence, which for them, you got to think about what they're enduring.
20:16Public transportation, relying on friends, family members, walking.
20:21When you have a vehicle, it really does provide you with a sense of freedom and independence,
20:26because you don't have to rely on somebody else to go to the grocery store
20:29or to get your kids to doctor's visits or things like that.
20:32You have that ability.
20:34So it really is, in a sense, independence and freedom.
20:41All right, we got both halves made it.
20:59That's a big first step.
21:00We just got to reverse everything we did to get it out.
21:02Yeah, that means a little exhaust, a bunch of plugs.
21:05And then, well, we get to test drive this thing.
21:07Well, he gets to test drive it.
21:09We both get to test drive it.
21:10We get to break in these brakes, then start hammering on them and having some fun.
21:14Who knows?
21:15Check out the converter.
21:16And down the road, a little power adder.
21:18There you go, man.
21:19Panther power.
21:20That's right.
21:21We'll see you on the next Two Guys Garage.
21:22Go have as much fun with your car as this guy is.
