China steps in as Cambodia, Thailand seal new ceasefire

Cambodia and Thailand wrap up two days of trilateral talks with China, as Beijing steps up mediation efforts following a fresh ceasefire to halt weeks of deadly border fighting.

00:12The meeting in China's southwestern province of Yunnan comes days after both countries agreed to a fresh ceasefire

00:18following weeks of fighting that killed dozens and displaced hundreds of thousands.

00:23Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called the truce hard-warned and urged both sides to prevent a return to hostilities.

00:35Beijing also pledged US$2.8 million in aid for Cambodia to help resettle displaced civilians,

00:41with the first batch, including tents, blankets and food, already delivered on Sunday.

00:47The meeting is China's latest move to bolster its role as an international mediator in the crisis.

00:54An earlier ceasefire brokered by Malaysia with US backing collapsed in early December,

00:59followed by weeks of border clashes that killed at least 100 people and displaced nearly a million.
