00:16Thailand and Cambodia agreed to meet in the Wednesday with the aim to reassume a ceasefire
00:24after nearly three weeks of intense fighting along their shared border.
00:30The decision came during an extraordinary meeting of Foreign Minister of the Association
00:38of Southeast Asian Nations, the ASEAN, and regional concern over the high human cost of this conflict.
00:47According to official figures and diplomatic sources, the fighting has left at least 18
00:56people dead, including military personnel and civilians, in addition to hundreds of people
01:04wounded.
01:05The violence has also displaced nearly one million persons, including women and children, who have
01:15had to left their homes to escape bombings and heavy artillery fire.
01:22Hostilities reignited on December 8, after the collapse of a privileged peace agreement.
01:30Since then, they have been daily exchange of fire involving artillery, drones and airstrikes,
01:40directly impacting civilian communities.
01:44The new rounds of talks will be held through the General Border Committee, a bilateral mechanism
01:52that has been used in privileged negotiations.
01:57Although details how a potential ceasefires would be implemented is still unknown.
02:07In a joint statement, the ASEAN called for maximal restraint and an immediate ceasefire of all attacks, while international
02:19actors, including China, intensified diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation and loss
02:29of life.
