Ran Okubo, the headmistress of Tokyo's prestigious Kin'gyoku Academy, one day receives a letter from Saizō Igano, a ninja who was her first love in her youth. Still harboring feelings for Saizō, she travels to the remote mountain village where he grew up, only to discover he has already passed away, leaving her devastated. However, there she finds his grandson, Igano Kagemaru—known as Kabamaru—who bears an uncanny resemblance to the young Saizō. With no family to turn to, Kaba-maru heads to the city and comes to live under Ran's care. But for Kabamaru, who had spent every day immersed in ninja training deep in the mountains, the city and the academy were worlds entirely unknown to him.
