00:00They're certainly starting to trickle in a bit more now after what was a relatively
00:06quiet morning here at Bourke Street Mall in Melbourne.
00:11This is a pretty unusual scene for Boxing Day sales.
00:16We know that in years past there's been lines of people down the street waiting for those
00:21doors to open to rush in.
00:23That certainly wasn't the case here this morning, but we are, as you said, starting
00:28to see a few more people arrive now, and Australians are still turning up, according to the Australian
00:33Retailers Association, who have forecast a $1.6 billion in spending across the country
00:40this Boxing Day, and that is also a 4.3% increase from last year.
00:47So certainly people are still turning up.
00:50Those areas that we're expecting to see some of the biggest sales include household goods,
00:55apparels and clothing and department stores like the one behind me.
01:00Now some of the people I've spoken to this morning have been among those prepared shoppers.
01:05One person told me they had mapped out their shopping trip, hit all their targeted department
01:12stores and then got out before breakfast time.
01:16Another person told me they got in early just so that they could go to the Boxing Day test.
01:20I got here before six o'clock in the morning, and I'm here on a goal to buy a bed and just
01:28have a really good time looking at the sales.
01:31Oh, to be honest, I haven't came from last few years because of the kids, COVID and all
01:35that.
01:35So yeah, normally I used to come here around five o'clock in the morning, because normally
01:39like there used to be a queue outside and all that.
01:41So, but this year it's a little bit quiet.
01:44So hopefully the people will come up later on.
01:46You know how you see on the TV, people are charging through?
01:49Well, I haven't quite seen that yet, but I'm sure it's to come.
01:52So certainly, certainly a quieter scene than we usually see, but Australians are still turning
01:59up here this morning.
