Mistaking an airplane for a bird, an African prince clings to it and ends up in the unknown land of Japan. To repay the kindness of a Japanese boy who gave him lodging and a meal, he stays at the boy's house. From then on, he involves the family and friends in a series of chaotic antics. This is Jungle Kurobee.
00:19This film, Jungle Black Bay, is about an African prince who ends up in the unknown country of Japan after clinging to an airplane he mistakes for a bird. In order to repay the kindness of a Japanese boy who has given him a place to stay, he stays at the boy's house, and from then on causes a commotion that involves his family and friends.
00:44Now, let's take a look at this work.
00:49Jungle Kurobey was originally written by Fujiko F. Tokichi and aired for a total of 31 episodes in 1973.
01:01The story begins when Sarori Shishio is ambushed on her way home from school by her classmate, the bully Tiger, and his henchman Okara.
01:12In fact, Shishio had made a bet with Tiger, holding a bone cutter, about whether a bird's nest would be set up in a tree in their garden and wild birds would take up residence there.
01:24That's why Tiger was lying in wait for Shishio to remind him that tomorrow, Sunday, was the last day of the bet.
01:33Afterwards, Tiger, confident of victory, leaves laughing, while Shishio, resigned to defeat, trudges home.
01:43That night, shivering from the cold, he stayed up all night watching the bird's nest when he suddenly noticed something enter the nest.It was an extremely cold night, so he put a blanket and some food in the nest to keep warm.
01:58The next morning, when they go to check the bird's nest, instead of a bird, they find a strange boy holding a spear who suddenly flies out and disappears.
02:11The next day at school, Shishio loses a bet and is hit with the first blow from Tiger, causing him to stagger. Just as he is about to receive the second blow, someone throws a stone at Tiger.
02:24In front of the enraged Tiger, Kurobei, the boy who disappeared from the bird's nest that morning, appears and tells him that he threw a stone at Tiger to repay Shishio's kindness in giving him a blanket and food.
02:38However, Shishio tells him about the bet and asks if it's okay, and Tiger tries to hit him again with the bone.
02:46Then, Kurobei, realizing something, suddenly begins dancing and casts a spell on Tiger and the others. Tiger attacks the other Hejiuma around him, who then start attacking each other, causing chaos.
03:03Shishio doesn't understand what's going on, but he sneaks out and returns home, where Kurobei is waiting for him.
03:13He then explains that his magic was the cause of the commotion, and decides to move into Shishio's house as a way of repaying his kindness.
03:23After this, Kurobei, who always follows the rules of the jungle, gets involved in various disturbances at school and in the town, including Shishio.
03:38Now, let me introduce the characters.
03:41Kurobei is the protagonist of this work and the prince of the Piri people, a mythical tribe that lives in Africa.
03:52While practicing flying magic, he mistakes an aircraft for a giant bird and clings to it, but ends up flying over Japan and is thrown into a bird's nest set up by Shishio.
04:04Later, to repay the kindness of Shishio for the blanket and food he had given him, he dug a hole in the garden and threw a stone into it each time he repaid the kindness, vowing to return home once the hole was filled up.
04:17For this reason, they live in bird nests and make statues of the god Bekkanko in gardens to worship.
04:23Furthermore, when it came to his own actions, he always prioritized jungle common sense, many of which deviated from Japanese common sense.
04:36Additionally, they cast spells and use magic to make others understand the common sense of the jungle.
04:44On the other hand, pushing through African rules and personal common sense can cause a lot of fuss.
04:50Salarisio is a boy who meets Kurobe by chance, and although his encounter leads to many troubles, he also builds a good relationship with Kurobe.
05:05Although he is kind-hearted and loyal, he can also be stubborn and lazy at times, and is easily deceived, as seen in the many lies he receives from his classmates Tyner and Okara.
05:21Tiger also has a crush on his beautiful classmate Takane, and they seem to have a rivalry.
05:29Tiger, whose real name is Torazo, is Shishio's classmate, Ken, and the bully who is always teasing and bullying Shishio.
05:41Although he is known for being a scary character, his timid side is also revealed, as he is afraid of heights and has a bedwetting problem.
05:51Since Kurobee appeared, he has often competed with Kurobee over the relationship with the lion.
05:57Okara is Tiger's older brother, and usually spends his time trying to keep Tiger happy.
06:06His personality was sarcastic, cunning, and slow-witted, and he was always trying to steal things from Tiger, but he was also known for being a quick runner.
06:20Fuji's high notes made her the Madonna-like girl at school, the object of admiration for the boys, including Lion and Tiger.
06:29While she has a kind, fairytale-like personality that loves the world, such as that of fairy tales, she also shows a curious and active side, such as her interest in black porcupines.
06:43Mitsuru and Toriko are parents of four limbs, and throughout the film we see the laid-back father, Mitsuru, and the reliable mother, Toriko.
06:54At first, his mother, Toriko, was against Kurobee's staying with her, but an unexpected kindness persuaded her to accept it in the end.
07:05Paopao is Kurobe's banana-loving pet, and looks like an elephant that walks on two legs.
07:12He always worked together with Kurobee, but when Kurobee suddenly went missing, he traveled all over the world and even came to Japan to search for him.
07:25Despite its large size, it is light, can blow air from its nostrils to move at high speeds, and can glide through the air using its ears.
07:34Akabee is Kurobee's younger brother with a red beard.
07:41The plane entered Japan as air cargo and descended to the ground by parachute.
07:49Because he is still young, he cannot use magic and can only speak Piki, but he is a master of the spear and has sometimes relied on Shishi.
07:58Gakku is Kurobe's rival, and in pursuit of Kurobe, he makes a Pirumi tree appear in a vacant lot and travels from Africa to Japan through a hole in the tree.
08:11He then built a house in the vacant lot and began living there, summoning various rare beasts through the Pirumi tree when necessary.
08:22He is also a user of hypnosis, while Kurobe uses magic.
08:31The cranky old man is a stubborn old man who was common in the castle during the Showa era, and he lives with his kind old lady.
08:40He is feared by the children because he regularly shows off his spear training, but he is actually a lonely person and later fights Kurobe and becomes friends with him.
08:52As an aside, this work is embroiled in the issue of racial discrimination against blacks, which was sparked by the same author's Ghost Kyutaro.
09:03The discrimination issue in question was the episode of Ghost Kyutaro, in which an expression about a ghost modeled after a black person was pointed out by a voluntary organization dealing with discrimination against black people at the International Ghost Union as an expression that promotes discrimination, and became an issue.
09:19Although this work was not specifically named as an issue at the time, the fact that the main character was black led to the voluntary recall of the books and the suspension of rebroadcasts, and in effect, the work has not been seen since the controversy.
09:36In today's world, where discrimination issues are becoming even more sensitive, it would be difficult to even make a remake, and as a Kurobei fan myself, this is a work that makes me feel a little sad.
09:52Now, it's finally the final episode.
10:00One day, Kurobei and Akabei were fighting over some snacks, and Kurobei ended up breaking Akabei's spear.
10:08Then, when his precious spear breaks, Akabei is so shocked that he bursts into tears and runs off somewhere.
10:20Gakku, who happened to see the scene, approached Akabei pretending to sympathize with him and made him promise to fight against Kurobei together.
10:28After a while, Gakku tries to use the Pirimy Tree to summon Kurobei and Akabei's father, Taishubei.
10:40However, for some reason, a jar with a letter attached to it comes out of the hole in the tree.
10:46The letter also stated that he was too busy to go to Japan, and asked that the smoke from the jar be sprinkled on the god of Bekkanko.
10:56Therefore, as instructed in the letter, when Akabei sprinkled smoke on the Bekkanko god, the god suddenly came to life and spoke to him in Taishobei's voice.
11:11Akabei is surprised, but when he tells him that Kurobei bullied him and broke his spear, Taishubei calls Kurobei over.
11:19Kurobei is confused by the unexpected voice of Taishibie, but he is told that he cannot return home unless Akabei's spear is repaired.
11:31After that, they try every possible way to repair the spear, but evening comes and they are unable to do so.
11:39Then, Kurobei begins to cry because he cannot go home even though he is hungry, and Gakku appears before him and shows him a leaf containing a powerful adhesive liquid that he obtained from Pirimy.
11:52Kurobei asks Gakku to give him some immediately, but Gakku suggests exchanging it for something that Kurobei treasures most.
12:03Kurobei then takes the lion out of the house and tries to give it to Gakku as his most precious possession.
12:13Gakku is shocked, but still orders Kurobei to hit the lion's buttocks with a bat 100 times.
12:21Kurobei holds the strings in his hand, but is unable to bring himself to hurt his best friend, and Shishio tells Kurobei that he will not hesitate to spank him.
12:34Still unable to hit the lion, Gakku sees Kurobei fall to the ground, and feeling the friendship between the two, he throws the leaf into the air and leaves the scene.
12:48After returning home and repairing his spear, Kurobei asks the crowd for advice on how to resolve his fight with Akabei, and is told to use a reconciliation spell.
12:59However, Kurobei, who does not know the magic of reconciliation, tries to perform it with the intention of making things work, and a huge amount of mist is emitted from the glue leaves, covering the entire town.
13:16The scene changes to the next morning, and the program ends with people walking through the fog-soaked town, still stuck together like surgical scarves.
13:26Now let's take a look at Kurobei and his friends in action.
