In the late 1960s, when Yokai and monsters were gaining popularity, a boy and a kappa embark on a journey searching for the boy's mother, who has lost her memory. Along the way, they encounter various yokai. This is the story of Kappa no Sanpei: Yokai Daisakusen.
00:17Today's topic is Kappa's 3-page, Great Yokai Operation.
00:22In the late 1960s, when monsters and other creatures were becoming increasingly popular, a boy and a kappa go on a wandering journey in search of the boy's mother, who has lost her memory, encountering various monsters in this film, Kappa's Triple Pane, Great Monster Operation.
00:46Now, let's take a look at this work.
00:49Kappa's Three Pages, Great Yokai Operation was based on the original story by Shigeru Mizuki, the creator of Gegege no Kitaro, and aired for a total of 26 episodes between 1968 and 1969.
01:07The story begins when Sanpei, a young boy who lives in a house called the Kappa House in a certain town, enters Akazu's room.
01:16There he found a kappa statue and a scroll written by Sanpei's ancestors. When he followed the instructions in the scroll, a door to the kappa world opened.
01:30When Sanpei entered the room, the stairs suddenly disappeared and he fell into darkness.
01:37When he comes to his senses, he finds himself in the world of kappa, and is told that his ancestors brought kappa to the surface and caused them terrible suffering.
01:48As a result, Sanpei is about to be punished with a shirikodama punishment.
01:55However, at that moment, the kappa's natural enemy, a monster called Mizuki, appears and kidnaps Kanko, the princess of the Kappa Kingdom.
02:04Sanpei is allowed to return to the human world to bring the matches needed to defeat the water, and is also given the lifting power of the Kappa 88 hands to fight against the water.
02:20Later, Sanpei, along with Kanko's servant, Shell Rokuhei, defeated Mizuki, and as a result of this achievement, he was able to return to the human world as promised.
02:32When he returned home, his mother was not there, so he asked the Weasel Man about it.It turned out that his mother had lost her memory and had disappeared.
02:44The reason for this was that Sanpei, despite being a human, had acquired the lifting powers of a kappa, which meant that he had broken the rules of the world of monsters, and the curse of Mononobe fell on Sanpei's mother.
02:57Sanpei sets out alone to find his mother, but Kanko and the parking lot owner Rokuhei, who have found out about it, join him, and the three of them begin their aimless journey.
03:11During their journey, various monsters try to obstruct Sanpei and his friends' search for his mother, but they overcome these adversities and continue their journey.
03:23Now, let me introduce the characters.
03:29First, the main character, Kawahara Sanpei, is the target of revenge because his ancestors not only used kappa to make a fortune, but also treated the kappas poorly and sealed them in Kappa Country.
03:46However, when he defeated Suiki, a monster and natural enemy of kappa, he was given supernatural powers by the kappa elder, which violated the laws of monsters. As a result, his mother lost her memory and became a wanderer due to the curse of the monster.
04:03Sanpei searches for his mother, and at first he uses supernatural powers to fight off the monsters that attack him, but eventually he is no longer able to use these powers.
04:17Rokuhei the Shell is a servant of Kanko, the daughter of the Kappa Elder, or perhaps belongs to Otsuki.Kanko becomes interested in Sanpei and decides to travel with him, so they continue their journey together.
04:33At first, Rokuhei is reluctant to travel, but as he gets to know Sanpei during his journey, he begins to see him as a precious friend.
04:46In the first episode, the elder's daughter, Kanko, feels grateful to Sanpei for helping her defeat Mizuki, and because she is interested in humans, she joins him on his journey to find her mother.
05:01Kawahara Yoshie is Sanpei's mother, and because Sanpei received supernatural powers from a kappa that humans should not possess, he is cursed, loses his memory, and is forced to wander.
05:15In the play, he appears near Sanpei, but it was difficult to meet him.
05:24The weasel man has been asked by the kappa elder to keep Sanpei in check, and he travels with Sanpei and his friends.
05:33Basically, he is a greedy character who is only motivated by money or food, and a troublemaker, and he seems to have a lot in common with the Rat Man from GeGeGe no Kitaro, including his appearance.
05:49Although the story is different from Kappa no Sanpei and Yokai Daisakusen, the original work was originally written by Shigeru Mizuki in 1961 for a lyrics book under the title Kappa no Sanpei, and has since been serialized in various magazines.
06:11Then, in 1968, this work, Kappa no Sanpei: The Great Yokai Operation, was broadcast on television, and the seventh episode of the TV version was shown at Toei's Children's Festival in December 1968.
06:31Also, in 1993, the animated film Kappa no Sanpei was released.
06:38As an aside, Matsui Achie, who plays Kanko in this work, is forced to return to Kappa Country in episode 14 when Kanko's grandfather, or perhaps the elder of Kappa Country, falls ill, and she does not appear again after that. However, it seems that she was actually forced to stay because she was chosen to play the lead role in the movie, Snake Girl and the White-Haired Demon.
07:04Incidentally, she later became a professional bowler.
07:12Now, finally, it's the final episode.
07:16The final episode will be a sequel to the previous episode, episode 25.
07:20Sanpei and Rokuhei are in trouble in the mountains when they are rescued by a mysterious old man who invites them into his home.
07:29That night, he hears the legend of how a monster called Jigoku-troller, who had been causing harm to the country, was sealed in a box in a cave by a certain leader.
07:39A wicked man who had been eavesdropping on the conversation mistakes a box of tombstones enshrined in the cave for treasure and steals it, then lends it to a female archaeologist in exchange for food, drink, and lodging.
07:56However, the seal on the box of Hell Roller was broken, and Hell Roller and you appeared, looking like a yaksha, and presented yourself to the female archaeologist and the government.
08:11The only way to counter this Hell Rolling was to find Dozobou, the sealer of Hell Rolling, whose name was written on the sealed box, and seal it again.
08:24He then somehow manages to find the yokai, Dozobou, and asks him to seal it again, but he is turned down, saying that the seal was broken due to humans' selfish desires, and that it was the humans' own fault, and that he has no intention of sealing it again for the sake of humans.
08:45However, after some persistent persuasion from Sanpei, Dozobou finally promises to seal it again.
08:57As Dozobou is praying for the seal, Jigoku Togashi appears and threatens to kill his granddaughter if he seals the demon.
09:07Therefore, Dozobo can do nothing even if his prayer letter is destroyed right in front of him.
09:15However, his granddaughter appears, having been saved by Sanpei and Rokuhei, and Dozobou prays for the seal once again, succeeding in rolling the demon away to hell and sealing the demon woman away.
09:28Afterwards, as Sanpei and Rokuhei walk away with smiles on their faces, lightning strikes and white smoke rises, and their mother appears.
09:39At that moment, Dozobou appears and tells them that the curse on the mother has been lifted, then disappears and leaves with his granddaughter.
09:49The program ends with Sanpei, his mother, and Rokuhei walking through a grove of trees with smiles on their faces towards Kilo.
10:02Now, let's take a look at Sanpei and his friends' exploits.
