Eggar’s School in Holybourne welcomed more than 80 senior citizens for their annual Christmas Party on December 12. Alton town mayor Cllr Annette Eyre was there alongside East Hampshire District Council chairman Cllr Graham Hill and town councillor Barbara Tansey. Preparations began the day before when pupils from Years 7, 8 and 9 decorated tables as part of a festive house competition. There were peppermint creams made by Mrs Jones, Mrs Fry and Mrs Cornaia, and acrylic Christmas tree decorations crafted by Mr Waite in the design and technology department. Guests enjoyed a traditional two-course Christmas lunch prepared by school caterer Innovate, which was accompanied by plenty of tea and coffee and followed by mince pies donated by Tesco in Petersfield. Student ambassadors from all year groups served the Christmas lunch. Guests said how “superb” all the pupils were, with one guest saying “how privileged” he felt to be in their company. Entertainment was provided by the Year 11 senior prefect team, who performed The 12 Days Of Christmas, and the folk band, who serenaded guests before leading a festive singalong. The afternoon concluded with a raffle which ensured every guest left with a prize thanks to donations from staff, pupils and parents. Alton Lions Club also made a “generous” contribution towards the event. Headteacher Sarah Holman said: “This wonderful event is a highlight of the Eggar’s calendar which truly reflects the warmth and community spirit at Eggar’s. Thank you to everyone who made it possible.”
