05:43What if I did a tour that celebrated all of these different moments in my life and career where you have chapters divided up by albums, and everything changes when the chapter changes?
05:57She had said to us, this is going to be over three hours, and we were just like, oh my god, how do we do this?
06:05Not just planning, but executing a tour of this size is mind boggling.
06:10The process of putting together this tour happened in many different phases, all over the world, happening simultaneously all at once.
06:20You had me doing my physical training six months before we even go into rehearsals.
06:24At this time, the choreographers goes in with the dancers.
06:27We've got the staging and the production design happening simultaneously, all to coincide with the same start date.
06:32The first day of rehearsal, she got out of her car and had tears in her eyes already.
06:39I'm weirdly emotional right now.
06:40It's so nice to meet you.
06:41I'm Taylor.
06:42Hey.
06:42Hi, I'm Kevin.
06:43It's so nice to meet you.
06:44I'm Taylor.
06:45Nice to meet you.
06:45I'm Taylor.
06:45Nice to meet you.
06:46I mean, I've been doing this for almost 20 years, a bunch of different artists.
06:50I have never seen that.
06:52I have never seen the boss come into rehearsal crying with tears of happiness and passion about their job.
06:59We haven't done what we love on a stage in five years.
07:03Let's go do this.
07:04The fans have been so amazing and are so excited for the tour.
07:08I wanted to over-serve the fans.
07:10That was my main goal.
07:12I wanted to over-serve them in terms of the amount of songs they were going to hear, the length of the show, what kinds of production they were going to see, different styles of dance, different worlds of dance, wardrobe, how far I was going to push myself.
07:28Oh, my God.
07:29Okay.
07:30Let's do it, my friend.
07:30Here we go.
07:31When you come up with a goal like that, you just have to make a choice and decide there's no going back on that choice.
07:39Woo!
07:40It's going to be done.
07:42Fire!
07:43Fire!
07:44Fire!
07:44Fire!
07:44Fire!
07:44Fire!
07:44Fire!
07:45Good morning, America.
07:47It's Taylor.
07:48I wanted to tell you something that I've been so excited about for a really long time.
07:53I've been planning for ages, and I finally get to tell you I'm going back on tour.
07:57Oh, my God.
07:58We're doing something very stressful today.
08:02Today is ERA's pre-sale day.
08:03Why isn't it letting us in?
08:06192.
08:07Oh, my God.
08:11We got row five.
08:12Oh, my God.
08:14Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.
08:20You did that.
08:21You did that.
08:22I think I thought fans would be excited about the idea of the ERA's tour.
08:31This is not real.
08:33Yes.
08:34It is?
08:35Yes.
08:35Really?
08:36This was a completely different thing than I've ever experienced.
08:39Fans of Taylor Swift crashed the Ticketmaster website today.
08:43The demand to see Taylor at that point, I don't think anybody in the industry, expert or otherwise,
08:51would comprehend.
08:52There was enough demand to do 255 stadiums.
08:57I'm actually not in Glendale.
08:59I'm in Swift City.
09:01Officials actually changed the name from Glendale to Swift City in honor of the megastar kicking off her tour.
09:08So we go from a detail-oriented, methodical, exhaustive process, and all of a sudden, in the last week leading up to the first show,
09:17everybody is firing on all cylinders.
09:20And then we had opening night.
09:25I'm about to say something to you that I've been just thinking about for years, you know?
09:30Welcome to the ERA's tour.
09:31Truly, everyone will tell you that none of us knew what the ERA's tour was becoming.
09:39Kansas City, welcome to the ERA's tour.
09:43She's a once-in-a-generation type of artist.
09:46I would almost compare it to the Beatles.
09:47When people start comparing this to, like, the Beatles and MJ, you just don't expect that what you're getting into is going to be that.
09:55Yeah.
09:57Seattle, Washington, welcome to the ERA's tour.
10:01You know, her shows, the crowd is kind of always at bananas level.
10:04And this is a whole other gear, you know, or two.
10:08All of the Swifties started jumping around during the song.
10:11They caused the equivalent of a 2.3 magnitude earthquake.
10:15Los Angeles, California.
10:19Taylor Swift, she's more than just a pop icon.
10:21She's a business powerhouse.
10:24Swift's U.S. tour could generate $4.6 billion in consumer spending.
10:28That's more than the GDPs of Granada, Belize, and Tonga combined.
10:33Something experts have dubbed Swiftnomics.
10:36The Taylor Swift takeover seen across the country, leading to the emergence of Taylor Gating.
10:41Even fans without tickets are traveling to tour stops.
10:44I've never seen this before in my life.
10:47It's, like, one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
10:49It's like Woodstock, but without the drugs.
10:52The thing that's so special, it is that community where they get into that stadium and celebrate
11:00not just what's happening on that stage, but what's happening with them
11:04and how they honor each other and love each other.
11:08It just became this movement.
11:11Kelly, bienvenue dans l'Eras tour.
11:15Stockholm, Madrid, Dublin.
11:18Suri, Milano, Hamburg, Barcavo, Vitaiche, la Eras tour.
11:25I thought that this would be a tour I was very proud of.
11:28This is, like, more than a tour.
11:30It's, like, a force to be reckoned with in global culture.
11:34So never in my life did I think we would have a terrorist plot.
11:44We are continuing to follow breaking news.
11:47Three upcoming Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna, Austria, have been canceled
11:50after Austrian authorities arrested two suspects
11:53who, they say, had plans to carry out a terrorist attack at the concert site.
11:58According to officials, they found chemical explosives,
12:02detonators, and ISIS propaganda at the main suspect's home.
12:06Now the big question is, what's going to happen to the rest of her European tour?
12:10Well, at this point, all of her shows are going ahead as scheduled,
12:13including her concert, right here in London.
12:22We're in London at my hotel.
12:24And basically, it's just kind of a weird feeling going into these last five shows in Europe
12:32because it sort of feels like we've done, like, 128 shows so far,
12:37but this is the first one where I feel like, I don't know,
12:41like I'm, like, skating on thin ice or something.
12:43We just had this.
12:44We've had a series of very violent, scary things happen to the tour.
12:51Like, we dodged, like, a massacre situation.
12:58And so I've just been kind of all over the place.
13:01Like, there was this horrible attack in Liverpool
13:05at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party,
13:10and it was little kids that, um...
13:24I thought I was going to be...
13:26The latest now on a knife attack
13:29that has left at least three children dead,
13:31multiple people injured
13:32at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in England.
13:34The youngsters, age 6 to 11,
13:36were dancing to Taylor Swift's songs
13:38when an attacker armed with a knife
13:40launched a frenzied assault.
13:43I'm going to, um...
13:45like, meet some of these families tonight
13:47and...
13:49put on a pop concert, you know?
13:58I'm going to be fine,
13:58because when I meet them,
13:59I'm not going to do this, I swear to God.
14:02I'm not going to do this.
14:03I'm going to be smiling.
14:05So any of this gets out of the way
14:08before you ever go on stage,
14:10you lock it off three and a half hours.
14:12They don't have to worry about you.
14:14It's like you're, like, a pilot flying the plane,
14:18and if you were like,
14:19ooh, there's turbulence up ahead.
14:20I don't know if we're actually going to land in Dallas.
14:23Like, I'm going to try hard,
14:26but I don't know if I can actually, like,
14:27figure out how to land through this turbulence.
14:29Like, everyone on the plane is going to freak out.
14:31You just have to have a calm, cool, collected tone
14:34of, like, we will be landing in Dallas at 6.05 p.m.
14:39Got a little turbulence up ahead,
14:40but it's nothing we haven't seen before.
14:42Just keep your seatbelts fastened,
14:44and welcome to the Aeros tour.
14:46There's something special about this tour,
15:09this iteration,
15:11this combination of people,
15:12this show, and I think about, like,
15:16how much love everybody here is pouring into what they do.
15:19The people who build the stage and hang the PA
15:20and the people who wash the clothes
15:23and play the instruments and do all the dancing.
15:25And the only thing we're trying to do
15:26is to make the world go away for a little while
15:29and make people feel seen
15:30and let them scream lyrics that they love
15:31at the top of their lungs.
15:32It's so beautiful to find something so positive
15:36that can be an escape for people like this can.
15:40And it's amazing that what we've been a part of
15:42can do that for people.
15:45So, what happened in Vienna
15:46and the idea of someone being able to rewrite
15:49the entire headline of this whole experience
15:52with one awful act,
15:53I feel so grateful that it got stopped.
15:55But I also felt just so horrible for the fans.
15:58I know that it sounds so stupid
16:18to be so upset about this,
16:21but, like, that environment of, like,
16:23the Ares Tour, where, like, everyone's so kind
16:25and, like, just having fun and, like, girlhood.
16:27Like, that was so much of what I wanted to experience.
16:31Something this moving, this powerful,
16:34this rich in feeling and experience
16:37represents more than just people
16:39coming to see an artist perform songs.
16:42And so we have a large responsibility
16:43to do this show and still show up for fans
16:46in the way that we can and know how.
16:48Without getting too far into this,
16:50I do feel like the world right now is really torn.
16:54But I think being a part of this tour,
16:56we're shining enough light
16:57that it actually feels like,
16:59well, man, this is absolutely affecting
17:00a lot of lives.
17:02And I think for all of us that are in it,
17:04that's a pretty good perspective.
17:06After Vienna, all right, let's get out,
17:08do these shows,
17:09because this is why we're doing it.
17:12I just want to know you better know
17:22you better know
17:23you better now
17:25I just want to know you
17:27know you
17:28know you
17:29Bringing out special guests is something that I really enjoy.
17:55Like when I get to be on stage
17:57with someone like Ed Sheeran,
17:59we can create a unique, special moment
18:02and it really just gives something to the fans
18:05that they didn't expect.
18:06Take me into your loving arms
18:09I don't know if he thinks he's doing the harmony
18:10the whole time and I'm doing the melody.
18:12Kiss me under the water
18:13It's very cool that he would come and do this
18:15because I think it's just going to like
18:17really delight people
18:17and I think in a moment
18:19when like a lot of the fans need like a pick-me-up
18:21because I know I do
18:23Baby
18:25How you doing?
18:29So I get to
18:29I'm going to the stadium
18:30and I'll do a little
18:31I know
18:32we'll do a little dressing room rehearsal
18:34I love you
18:44I don't know
18:45How do you remember 36,000 plays
18:49that are all tactical missions
18:51and then just go do it?
18:52It's the same
18:53It's basically the same job
18:55I got songs to remember
18:56You got plays to remember
18:57You got teammates
18:59I got teammates
19:00You've got Coach Reed
19:02I've got my mom
19:04I want you to be here
19:13I want to be there
19:15Why do you have to be in the NFL?
19:18So I'm going to be scouring the internet
19:20I'm so excited
19:23I'm so excited
19:26But have a great practice
19:28I love you so much, babe
19:30I love you so much
19:32Thanks for making my day better
19:33Thank you
19:34I know this was like
19:35some people get a vitamin drip
19:36I got this conversation
19:37That's right back
19:48That's good
19:50So I usually practice in the shower
20:05because I'm trying to respect
20:07kind of the space and peace
20:09of everyone else
20:10So if I need to do something noisy
20:11I go somewhere
20:13that people aren't that much
20:14and shower's a good enough bet
20:17You know, I'm just trying
20:18to get a distance from her
20:19It's a lot
20:21I started playing for Taylor
20:24in 2007
20:26Amos?
20:27Yeah
20:27Hey, Tay
20:28Are you wearing my headband?
20:30Again?
20:30I'm wearing our headband
20:31I think if I look back at it now
20:34the thing that remains
20:35really constant
20:36is there's not a challenge
20:39that she isn't going to
20:40meet head on
20:41and kind of decide to conquer
20:43and having that kind of energy
20:45in the lead spot
20:47has inspired
20:49I can say me personally
20:50to do a lot of the same things
20:52This diamond here
20:53is where I'm coming up
20:54for the first
20:55Nice
20:55For the first thing
20:56When we were in rehearsal
20:57for the ERA's tour
20:59and we didn't quite know yet
21:00what it was going to be
21:01what it was going to be called
21:02I remember a meeting
21:03I think we're all like
21:04sitting on the floor
21:05where she kind of
21:06cast the vision
21:06And so it's going to start
21:08with a chorus
21:09and really hard
21:12really hard
21:13Miss Americana chorus
21:14like hard
21:15It's you and me
21:17That's my whole world
21:18They whisper in the hall
21:19when she's a bad, bad girl
21:21And she's just like
21:23here's my vision
21:23It's what we're going to do
21:24Just going to hit them
21:25with 22
21:26We are never ever
21:27getting back together
21:27I knew you were trouble
21:28And then the 10 full minutes
21:30all too well
21:30Yeah
21:31We're doing something
21:32from every album
21:33We want to get straight
21:34into Willow
21:34We'll do Enchanted
21:36And we got a list
21:42of about 40 songs
21:43Internally, certainly
21:49I scoffed
21:49That's almost three hours
21:50This is insanity
21:52What are we going to cut?
21:54And I think we added
21:55three songs
21:56Once upon a time
21:59The planets end the phase
22:01And all the stars
22:03are right
22:04It seems obvious now
22:06Because it did work
22:08But at the time
22:10It's a big risk
22:11to decide
22:11We're going to do
22:12a three hour plus show
22:13We're going to do it
22:14in stadiums
22:14And we're going to do it
22:15all over the world
22:16And so
22:17A lot of tenured professionals
22:19are doing their very best
22:20to quantify what it is
22:21about what she's doing
22:22that's connecting
22:23to everybody
22:24It's just a show
22:25It's just music
22:26But there's something
22:27more profound than that
22:28going on here
22:29Security is being stepped up
22:53for Taylor Swift's
22:54upcoming London concerts
22:55And this is why
22:56it's such a big deal
22:57This is her first performance
22:58since that thwarted terror plot
23:00to attack a show in Vienna
23:01Swifties are already moving in
23:04All of them going to be
23:05carefully screened
23:06as they enter this stadium
23:08Police telling us
23:09they want to make sure
23:10that they know
23:10what everyone is doing
23:11inside that stadium
23:12Ian, what are the fans
23:13there saying?
23:14Are they concerned?
23:16Some of the Swifties
23:16said that they were
23:17acutely aware
23:18of what happened in Austria
23:19but they're excited
23:21We've been here for like
23:26four or five hours
23:28we've spoken to people
23:29from like Scotland
23:29and England
23:30and Israel
23:32I feel like what's happening
23:34right now
23:34with everyone waiting
23:35for hours
23:36and exchanging bracelets
23:37and just like
23:38everyone making friends
23:39a ten hours wait
23:40goes in five minutes
23:41honestly
23:42I'm actually quite
23:43a new Swifty
23:44my flatmate hates me
23:46now
23:47because I just play
23:48Taylor Swift all the time
23:49she said
23:49if you
23:50if you like
23:52play Karma one more time
23:53you're going to get evicted
23:54I want to cry
23:55for like joy
23:56tears of joy
23:57is what I want
23:57like
23:58this has been
23:59such a long time coming
24:00like book my tickets
24:01over a year ago
24:02I'm just seeing her face
24:04I know
24:05I'm so excited
24:06It's like she's not
24:07a real person
24:07I'm just so excited
24:10like breathe the same air
24:12as her
24:13casting spotlights
24:16here and there
24:17across the ground
24:18at a certain point
24:20Tracy understood
24:21where they were going
24:21under normal circumstances
24:24she would have felt afraid
24:25she was typically
24:26I've been performing
24:27for you know
24:2920 years
24:31from a mental standpoint
24:33being like afraid
24:34something's going to happen
24:35to your fans
24:35at any moment
24:36this is a new challenge
24:37I want to be
24:40to keep all of the nerves
24:42I have
24:43away from the crowd
24:44because
24:45when you're sort of
24:47the ringleader
24:47of this show
24:48they can sense
24:49any kind of shift
24:51energetically in you
24:52and you have to
24:53really focus on that
24:55and factor that in
24:56that you're at the
24:56heiress tour
24:57nothing's wrong
24:58down the same hallway
24:59through which they had
24:59entered
25:00hey
25:01suddenly there came
