00:00Birmingham on a good day and there's no better day than when Giants Live is in town with the
00:26strongman open featuring the world deadlift championship and when one very special athlete
00:31is making his return I miss the sport if I would not come back I might regret it for the rest of my
00:48life I don't want to live with regrets you know
00:56I want to live my life to the fullest
01:00I love being the best you know that's inspiring me to keep going and I want to prove to the people
01:17to the world that you know I can come back after such a long time and and still be one
01:23of the best guys out there you know I have won everything there is to win in strongman and you
01:31know I realized the world records are something that's going to live there forever until they're
01:37broken and people can remember those world records these big moments I am very confident in my ability
01:47to break my own death world record and pull 510 kilograms and that's what I'm gonna do
01:52but the goal is not done there I'm here also to win the whole show so I have five more events left
02:04after the deadlift and I'll be fully satisfied if I win the whole show and I truly believe I can
02:11what's a time to be a strongman fan half thought Julius Bjornsson looking preposterously enormous that
02:30isn't the world record the question is in a few moments time will he manage to pull 510 kilograms the
02:37athletes here they're getting ready to go outside there so much to talk about Matt rag in the back
02:41can he break a national record Gavin Billton as well and what about the man holding a t-shirt from
02:46Mexico Raul so much that we don't know about him but we do know one thing he's gonna give this
02:52absolutely everything and fingers crossed history once again will be made at Giants live it's time to meet
03:00the athletes well thanks ready and yes let's begin let's meet our athletes a few moments ago here for
03:16the deadlift only from Mexico 480 kilos recently for a new American record it's Flores representing
03:24America six foot six in his socks or out of them former NFL player with the Dallas Cowboys Bryce Johnson
03:31from Canada Tristan hearth he's a police officer from Edmonton came fifth the world's strongest last
03:40year here's a friendly fella from Australia two-time Australia's strongest man the singing strongman Eddie
03:47Williams this guy made the world's strongest man grand final last year another athlete from Mexico
03:55they call him smash it's Austin Andrade a real veteran now 43 years old competing in deadlift only
04:06tonight it is Rauno Heinle six-time New Zealand's strongest man placed fourth at the world's strongest
04:17man grand final last year it is the Kiwi Matt rag then always a fan favorite two-time Britain's strongest
04:27man runner-up Gavin Bilton another stalwart of the British scene a member of the prestigious 1000
04:39pounds club it's Adam Bishop that's what he can lift not what he weighs
04:49yet another familiar face two-time Europe's strongest man reigning Britain's strongest man
04:55his shoulders arguably the strongest on the planet it's Luke Stoltman
05:00now this man's star is rising and rising fast 2025's England's strongest man Paddy Haynes
05:11from the USA the always intense always elegant T-Rex on the strongman classic in London it's Evan Singleton
05:22and look who's back
05:32returning to Giants live for the first time since 2019 all six foot nine of Hafthor Julius Bjornsson five-time
05:42Europe's strongest man 2018 world's strongest man what can he do tonight
05:48so there you go I hope that's all right for you
05:56as we move into the deadlift Colin Bryce yes indeed this is max deadlift we start at 400 kilos who knows
06:03where we finish the world record 505 kilos held by Hafthor Julius Bjornsson this is what's happened so far
06:10round two the men at 420 kilos all of them going clear except Luke Stoltman down the bottom there Bjornsson and Singleton still to come
06:18well it's going to be Hafthor Julius Bjornsson the mountain
06:28up against America's Evan Singleton and I thought perhaps one of them would pass this because you're allowed
06:37to pass but uh look getting the lift in 420 kilos I mean Bjornsson it's not that long ago less than a
06:46month since he's broken the world record Singleton doesn't wait around there's two platforms going at
06:52the moment and no Magnus fair Magnussen says you didn't hold it at the top and that's not good well
07:00something's happened here with Singleton Bjornsson makes it look like nothing absolutely nothing
07:09he definitely didn't hold it long enough Singleton he's going to give it another go
07:12his personal best a thousand pounds 453 kilos this should be pretty easy but something has gone wrong
07:21you can see that yes something around the left knee
07:29well we'll keep you up to date with Singleton he's got to be one of the favorites for tonight's
07:33show along with Bjornsson of course and even this man Paddy Haynes he is a great editor let's take
07:40another look at what Singleton did there he didn't lock his hips out didn't get his hips through he
07:45thought he got the down signal hence the rather unhappy look
07:52hey keep Britain tidy
07:57some frustration from Singleton no kidding but no excuse for lettering no there's never an excuse you're
08:03right Danny glad you said it not me though here we go our first pair up at 440
08:11big Gav Bilton strapping on Paddy Haynes on the other side ready to pull and he can go whenever he wants
08:20well Paddy Haynes continues an amazing run he's been having of late oh this will be something else as
08:29well a big Gav got it and he does
08:33that's a Welsh record there for big Gav Bilton tremendous lifting he's pretty happy too
08:42bettering his own record by 15 kilograms well he's absolutely delighted
08:48Gavin Bilton Welsh deadlift record yeah how was that for you mate oh it was easy i could do it again
08:58if i wanted to um i trained hard this is a game of nutrition of course i won a thousand pounds
09:05440 is a great number about out let's go and win the rest of the show and just very quickly those are
09:10the facts does that one mean to you it means a lot uh like i said i almost give it i almost gave this
09:16up a couple weeks ago so yeah i'm happy to be here it means a lot it's not just a number on the bike it means a lot
09:22we saw it mate massive congratulations show ahead thank you very much
09:27we'll move on to 453 kilos
09:31and it's paddy haynes yes 453 an unusual number but it converts to a thousand pounds so these men
09:40trying to join the thousand pound club
09:46the haynes on the left looking solid
09:51he's great at reps can he do this for his max lift yes he can well paddy haynes he's in that thousand
09:57pound club he's looking for his certificate and his membership card now but this is huge
10:05unbelievable he's such a talent he's had an incredible year paddy haynes bryce johnson on
10:11the far side just got it to his shins and no more but after a couple of pulls it wasn't perfectly clean
10:17he managed to get it up thousand pounds paddy haynes you came here for a pb you're leaving with a
10:24thousand pounds mate unbelievable i'm absolutely lost for words rads i'm surprised myself there like
10:32that's a 45 kilo pb in less than a year i don't care what happens now do you know i mean it's a
10:40lifetime goal ticked off and it i know there's more coming as well it's coming on man i'm not the guy
10:46that can move anymore i'm sort of becoming this rounded athlete quite literally at the minute but
10:51it's paid off and i'm i couldn't be happier game on for the show game on boys mass moves mass as
10:58ever for plenty of deadlift drama to come in birmingham as we close in on that world record
11:03attempt in the deadlift with you know who on giants live
11:22well welcome back to birmingham and the world deadlift championship well we're going into round
11:27number five and all of the men in the red are out of the competition rag failed 470 kilos which is
11:34round five flores and heinle have skipped so we have bishop and bjornson still to come only one man
11:41has attempted and made it yes austin andrade was successful at 470 and after a little lie down decided
11:49to call it a day so two men to come bishop and bjornson we haven't seen that bjornson since 420
11:59kilos bishop of course pulled the thousand pounds so this isn't a huge jump for him but it is a very
12:06big jump for bjornson we're down to just one platform now now this would be a great moment for adam
12:17bishop this would be his personal best bishop he's lifted this kind of weight on numerous occasions
12:25coming into the world deadlift champs but he's often gambled too high so he's going to try and
12:29consolidate get the 470 he's done it surely and it seems pretty easy there could be more
12:39there could be more great lift from adam bishop just the last couple of inches he struggled sunk
12:45his hips drove it through well he's with his old university mate radzy now
12:54come on adam bishop yeah i recall being in loughborough you pulling 300 kilos off the floor
13:03and that was really impressive mate you've put 170 kilos on that and made it look smooth how was it
13:09for you i'm also about 50 kilos heavier in body weight since those days i had so i'd hope so but
13:13no it felt really good that was the plan going in i wanted that 470 pull improvement on where i was
13:17you know in in 2021 uh and it moved well so yeah i'm very happy in all seriousness the last time i spoke
13:23to you things were very very different yeah look at you now exactly but you know the power of something a
13:28little bit more time so i can get prepared and ready to go and yeah it's uh everything's changed and just a
13:33word for your journey so you've tried to deadlift before ruptured bicep ruptured tricep ruptured
13:39achilles and here we are in the 470 club it's actually unbelievable mate yeah i'm very happy
13:44obviously yeah these things can knock you down but you can't let them keep you down um and that's
13:48you know the thing i kind of live to is always focus on what i can do and obviously for a while
13:52i couldn't walk around but i can still train um and obviously want to get back and pull something big
13:57and that's what i've done thanks for your time mate thank you yeah well amazing work from adam bishop
14:05but now all thoughts turn to this man half for julius bjornson
14:11well if we're gonna get 510 kilos up today that's a 40 kilo jump from this
14:16so you'd hope this isn't too difficult for bjornson
14:21we'll read a lot into how this goes up
14:23good lord
14:29not bad wow not bad at all he's the only man that dwarfs this equipment yes he does isn't
14:37it that is a standard bar you would see in any competition my goodness me there was no hits
14:43nothing in fact there wasn't even a scream or a roar that was just another day at the office
14:50we are surely going for the world record now let's have a look 470 kilos both bjornson and bishop and
14:59andrade all making that flores and heinle of course have skipped and we go to 480 kilos now where bjornson
15:07is skipping so uh two men going for 480 and it'll be the mexican flores the new all-american record holder
15:15well he did four seven five kilos so this will be five kilos up on his own all america's record
15:24so flores and heinle next to go with flores first
15:29doesn't roll it in which is unusual but gives it a good hit he's got very long arms for his size
15:41that's for sure but doesn't quite get it to be fair it was only a matter of a couple of weeks ago he did
15:47that record he's been flown in at the last minute and uh given it his best
15:54still have heinle though and of course if bjornson were to go for the record
15:59and fail and heinle were to pull this he'd win the competition so much riding on this
16:07school to play for for rhino
16:14looks good off the floor but he's stuck at the knees
16:16took it out of him and then they will get much more out of heinle
16:24we've seen heinle too i like his spangly shoes by the way i made those
16:31well he's been there before in this territory he's been the master's world record holder for some time
16:36now so it all comes down to one big lift and i'm assuming we're gonna go for 510 here 505 kilos done in
16:44germany about a month ago and uh yes indeed oh my goodness to a world record attempt
16:55for the mountain himself
16:58after julius bjornson back after six years yes indeed he's been boxing he's been doing all kinds
17:07of different things and now he's getting very very strong again ping pong all of them you name it he can
17:14do it but the lure of the deadlift was too great arguably the number one lift in all of strongman all
17:22of strength sports right here the deadlift the king of lifts and his chance now just to take another five
17:32kilos away from the rest of the world 510 kilograms on the bar that's over 1122 pounds
17:44it feels like he's just supposed to do this he turns up determined that's when he's unstoppable
17:54can he do 510 oh my goodness oh yes he can that was so easy danny rolled it in not a single hitch there
18:05nothing that just flew up how much more is there well that is a new world record for iceland's bjornsson
18:16well he's taking the hundred thousand dollar check as well this is worth roaring about
18:20extraordinary i don't want to go for that
18:22you don't know who his dad is he's the very tall one there bjorn very tall man indeed great guy and
18:33congratulations half thor 510 kilos it's now out of sight from the rest of the world and if anyone chased
18:40him there's more well half thor julius bjornsson takes that world record and he's with radzi right now
18:52half thor history has been made and you made it look extremely easy how was it from your end
18:58first extremely good you know i think with the crowd here dude in this arena uh helped a lot
19:05i feed off the crowd i get more energy from the crowd i uh i love the crowd so so and i i came in
19:13strong you know i've been training really really hard for this and things have gone well in training and
19:20i'm the strongest i've ever been so i'm really really happy and to do it in front of your family as
19:24well means everything you know having them here hearing my son cheering me on means everything and
19:32just finally where does that put in the annals of your greatness all the things you've achieved
19:37you've won everything where does that stand this has to be like up there you know like people love
19:44world records i love world records but also love titles you know i won everything there is to win
19:49in strongman when i was active you know um and um you know this has to be up there with with all of my
19:57big accomplishments just to say as a strongman fan as a fan of strength to witness greatness like
20:03that it was a privilege so helpful thank you thank you so much thank you the mighty thor after so long
20:09away from the sport setting a mighty new world record and sending a warning to the rest of strongman
20:15joint second behind him bishop and andrade with what in any other context would surely be winning lifts
20:20on to the next event well thanks james yes the farmers walk up next a 150 kilo weight in each hand
20:28like lifting a sumo wrestler in each hand and then having a jog yes for 30 meters as well and
20:35it's been done by luke stolman 14 seconds he completed it in tristan hoeth 0.8 of a second behind him
20:41and evan singleton i'm afraid is out he's withdrawn so up next eddie williams and gavin bilton chasing down
20:51that stoltman lead and they're off this is a very fast start from eddie williams look at him go wow
20:57absolutely flying down the course he's going to be done any second here he's going to go ahead
21:02of stoltman surely yes he has well it's very very fast indeed from australia's williams gavin
21:09builton though struggling once you've let them drop very hard to get going again i know that
21:14exhausted from pulling that welsh record 440 kilos earlier he's digging in deep though he's almost to
21:20the line come on gab you can do it oh a little bounce will you get away with it i think he does
21:27well 32.69 for gavin bilton what about this from eddie williams tremendous extraordinary he's just
21:37about as fast laden as unladen amazing we move on then bryce johnson from america britain's paddy haynes
21:45and matt rag the kiwi it's the big bryce johnson on the far side paddy haynes who's a tremendous
21:54athlete in the center but it's johnson the american who had great power off the floor but he's gone down
21:59and now is the turn of the kiwi can he get to the line first well it's the tortoise and the hare isn't
22:05it 14.3 for matt rag wow paddy haynes slower and steadier in the middle 18.27 bit of a shock there i
22:15thought paddy haynes was going to storm through on that one he's got such a good grip but those who uh
22:21lifted really heavy in the deadlift seem to just be hampered a bit here does that mean bjornsson's going to be
22:30great stuff from rag a little slower than stoltman and eddie williams still holds the lead
22:37andrade bishop and bjornsson now
22:43sap for bjornsson closest to camera how much has he given away in the deadlift adam bishop looking really
22:49good does bjornsson have a second gear here to try and catch him oh he doesn't have to he's gone down
22:57bishop well bjornsson 15.58 the only man to just keep hanging on disappointing for bishop there coming
23:06in last 19.97 yeah and olsen andrade he was close as well but he too went down so just 18.21 seconds for
23:15the mexican slow and steady was uh the order there for bjornsson and that grip didn't give up
23:22that gave him the win in this heat
23:30so the man from down under doing a number on the rest of the field in event two eddie williams the
23:35clear winner so close between luke stoltman in second though and fifth place bryce johnson
23:40half thor coming in sick and that means overall thor's lead has narrowed to just half a point now
23:47from matt ragd close behind the kiwi austin andrade and eddie williams bishop haynes and stoltman all
23:53needing to make up ground it's been a remarkable evening so far for the mountain that world record
24:01and now sitting on top of his first giant slide back after six years the rest of the field with a
24:07mountain to climb when we return welcome back to birmingham if you're just joining us thor is back
24:20and looking like he'd never been away the big man setting a deadlift world record earlier tonight
24:24and currently leading in the strongman open can his rivals close the gap in our next event let's find out
24:30with colin and danny well thanks james and yes the sandbag steeplechase colin yes two 150 kilogram
24:39sacks that's at 330 pounds in the hands has to be taken down the course and this is what's happened
24:45so far matt ragg managed to finish all four runs two runs in each shuttle as it were 42 seconds is the
24:53time to beat well bilton haynes and andrade are next and it's not just a case of lifting carrying
25:00these bags you're gonna chuck them over that hurdle as well yes it's broken down into four segments two
25:07for each sack and paddy haynes over the first segment the further you can throw it the better of course for
25:13the second part of it this is very very fast from paddy haynes he saw this event at britain's strongest man
25:21so he knows what it's like it's hard that is the answer nearly slipping there in his pimpses this is
25:26very uh rare you see a strong man moving as quickly as haynes sprinting back but it's worthwhile
25:32he is just a ferocious athlete he really is 42 seconds is the time to beat 42 and a
25:37half keep your eyes on the clock paddy haynes i think is going to do it and does it with style paddy
25:44haynes 38.94 seconds it's gavin bilton next to complete good fitness there for a man who's uh well
25:56over 400 pounds that's not bad at all now change of technique over here for andrade
26:02he doesn't look like he's having fun no i'm not sure it's the best technique he's starting to run
26:10out of time yeah and energy yeah energy's virtually on zero here i think he might just
26:16give this a little cuddle and that'll be time up i've never seen a more fed up looking strongman
26:22he's just such a big man of course all of these men bulking up for the deadlift but paddy haynes
26:30such an athlete certainly uh hampered him the least as that was a tremendous time
26:39johnson johnson and from canada hearth
26:43there's no referee down saturday gets his underway ho with closest to camera he's the lightest you'd
26:50expect him to probably be the quickest at this the cop but uh bryce johnson at six foot six and
26:56half four at six foot nine they certainly don't find the hurdles too difficult just the
27:04the size of uh and that big stride of his just chews the ground up and he's looking very fit for a man
27:11who's weighing in at around 200 kilograms and body weight 440 pounds now will he gas out here on this
27:19second sack it must be nice releasing that sandbag but then realizing you have to pick it up again
27:26not so good don't he's gonna beat paddy haynes in fact he's gone behind that but still it looks very
27:31solid indeed for bjonsson this will get him good points yes solid's the word there 47 and a quarter
27:38for half for bjonsson neck and neck here canada to the finish canada just ahead of america howard
27:46nipped it 56.81 versus 57.76 for bryce johnson
27:55i'm not sure that's a face of pleasure but he's digging in he's a fighter bjonsson
28:00perhaps thor making top thor in event three but is time beaten by his rival matt rag by luke stolman
28:09and above all by the winner of this event paddy haynes radsey's with him now paddy haynes you're
28:15probably mixing it with the big boys here some of the strongest men on planet earth and you are top
28:19three now yes absolutely crazy i've got two damage limitation events that's all um these front hold
28:24i've never done in competition and i've never done the viking press either so for me like today it's
28:29just case of get out there do the best i can have some fun try some new events out and power stairs
28:34usually quite loyal at the end so hopefully finish on finish on a high and just finally we talk about
28:39secret weapons when it comes to nutrition people might have isotonic drinks they might think about
28:44rice or chicken or broccoli what have you been having i've just munched my second jam sandwich and i
28:49and i have no regrets jam sandwich for the win so honestly i'm like paddington bear on holiday i'll
28:54just keep it super simple pump up the jam paddy into third after that event win we'll see if he can
29:00preserve that podium place thor slips into second matt ragg takes over on top coming up it's hammer time
29:08well thanks james and yes the hammer hold is next 30 kilos this hammer how long can you hold it out in
29:14front of you 66 pounds and well eddie hall has the world record of 65 seconds and this is what's
29:20happened so far tristan hoeth has done the longest 39.56 seconds but the man in second there rag from new
29:27zealand 39 12 he leads the competition and once again putting in a very steady performance two pairs to come
29:37so the first pair hafthor Bjornsson of iceland and britain's luke stoltman
29:46as you said earlier luke stoltman arguably the strongest shoulders in the world but
29:51don't tell hafthor Bjornsson he'll make him mad because he can just about do anything he really
29:56shouldn't be good at this Bjornsson he's got long long arms and that works against you with biomechanics
30:02but he's dug in hard oh a little shake already in 15 seconds this will be interesting well 39.56
30:10to beat and now luke stoltman trying to find his happy place very difficult to find a happy place when
30:15you're holding a hammer this heavy this really is mind over matter and it looks like the matter is
30:23winning against stoltman 37 38 oh he goes just before hoeth but what a fight there from luke stoltman
30:30as hafthor Bjornsson continues and he's got the lead that's for sure by some margin now is he gonna
30:37make a minute not quite 51 seconds off and that's absolutely wiped him well 50.78 for hafthor Bjornsson
30:48puts him very comfortably in the lead i think darren sadder was worried he's gonna have to catch him there
30:53that would have been a strongman feat in himself and that was a real battle Bjornsson you can see
30:59how much this means to him not just the world record and deadlift but to win overall
31:04and that was the second darren realized he might go over
31:16what did it take out of hafthor Bjornsson and was it worth it
31:20as we move on to our final pair williams and johnson can these guys close the gap
31:27to the top position they know what they have to do now to take the win here this hammer hold 50.78
31:36seconds is what's needed both tall men both have long arms that works against both of them
31:42eddie williams looks like a man who's well he's found his zen at least for the moment
31:50johnson's definitely got a bit of a wobble gate you can find that zen
31:54but it tends to disappear very rapidly yes the lactic acid sure does build up in your shoulders
32:01very quickly and there's no way to move it and shake it and get rid of it
32:08williams goes down he was looking good early around about the time of hoeth and can johnson hang on
32:13much longer no so it'll be Bjornsson he'll take the win here what a great showing from both williams and
32:20johnson just as williams put it down it was as if johnson had permission to do the same
32:33as you might expect thor proving unbeatable on the hammer the icelander lasting more than seven
32:39seconds longer than bryce johnson the only other man to make it beyond 40 agonizing seconds
32:44backstage has that performance taken its toll on the icelander returning now from his long absence
32:52and taking his time to recover how much does thor have left in him for the final two events
32:58but now he's moved back into top spot in the strongman open matt rag just a point and a half behind
33:03though we're just two and a half points between the next five men ratty is with the leader right now
33:08thor how nuts is it that 5 10 is easier than front hold you know what my body is just wrecked right
33:16now after the 5 10 i was in like in the happy place you know we don't feel anything as i'm just
33:22happiness you know i was so happy with my performance you know but now after after the time has passed and
33:27i've done a few more events my body's just right thanks for your time mate well thor's comeback story is not
33:33the only tale being told tonight in birmingham with two events to go tension is mounting for everyone
33:39at the strongman open we're back with more on giants live
33:49welcome back to giants live in birmingham it's been an extraordinary night so far here
33:54hapthorr bjornsson back from retirement breaking the deadlift world record in his first event
34:03now after three more challenges hapthor is still leading the field at the strongman open
34:09can he hold on and take the title let's find out with colin and danny well thanks james yes six
34:16events tonight and after four here's where we are well hapthorr bjornsson has shifted the paradigm of
34:21what is possible in strongman he's on top with 40 points having also pulled a world record in deadlift
34:27today and now we move on to the viking press matt rag and others who are the chasing pack will
34:33have to try and get some good reps in here 150 kilos overhead 60 seconds to do as many as possible
34:40well paddy haynes went earlier with the likes of andrade and stoltman on 10 but williams sits on top
34:45with 13. so we move on to matt rag and tristan hoeth these guys second and third in the standings
34:55this is an opportunity perhaps for rag to put some serious pressure on thor if he can get a big enough
35:01number here yes and hoeth who's just a great all-round competitor attacks this first he's not wasting
35:07any of his time i'm not sure either man will be pressing for 60 seconds that will be impressive if
35:13they did and rag has caught him both men have to be careful the uh handles have to pass your ear that's
35:22right have to come down deep enough and hoeth's finished on seven rack can he get double figures
35:28no i think that will be that for matt rag managers nine
35:37now we still have one pair to come in that has bjornsson in it it'll be fascinating to see if
35:42bjornsson can again dig deep these two guys did their best but couldn't get past williams so
35:50limited in how many points they will pull back here bryce johnson half thor bjornsson
35:58next to go two absolute giants the six foot six johnson gets underway very quickly
36:04and bjornsson is the fatigue starting to build now
36:10when he pulled that world record deadliff surely that's taken an enormous amount out of him
36:16johnson is he almost going too quickly here that's nine that's ten great use of the legs
36:21as if he's shot putting it up exploding with 150 kilos but bjornsson slow and steady on the other
36:28side still kicking away he's equaled williams he's gone in the lead johnson and bjornsson for double
36:34figures does he lock out yes yes he does but look at this from johnson a massive 15 reps
36:46oh goodness me one to beat williams and one just for fun i have to say bryce johnson is proving to be a
36:54star in the making hathor bjornsson once again a gritty performance and good points bryce what a
37:01performance and i guess with your nfl background we should never have doubted it viking press has
37:06been really good for me in the past i don't know what it is if it's just the leg drive i get most of
37:11my power on my legs anyway so it was a great event how tough is it to come can continue that power as
37:17you're getting into those big reps i mean you can definitely feel it you know i hit right around 10
37:21i was like i don't i don't know how many more i've got left but i really want a podium spot so just
37:25kept grinding and just touching on that one event to go you're now joint seconds i mean right in the
37:32mix yep i'm stoked power series is a great event for me in the past so i'm excited game on yeah oh yeah
37:39thank you thank you sir the american with a potentially very significant win there a massive
37:4615 reps two more than eddie williams gavin bilton taking third while thor tied fourth with a cluster
37:53of other strongmen and that means that while thor is still top with one event to go bryce johnson has
37:59moved up to tie matt rack for second spot tristan hoher still in with a shout of taking a podium position
38:05it's back to colin and danny thanks james and yes we move on to the power stairs colin 200 to 250
38:12kilos weights four of them have to be carried up these stairs each one and the fastest time wins
38:19simple as that paddy haynes has done it so do these other men but he leads with 30.78 seconds
38:25so eddie williams and matt rag next up australia and new zealand to show off uh exactly how they
38:39get the shopping home yes williams on the left the australian the new zealander on the right
38:45matt rag and oh he has to get over that lip that's one of the rules so it doesn't come back down at you
38:50when you're going on the next one that's why 225 kilos on to 240 for williams and he's doing really
38:57well here he might be able to beat the 30 seconds of paddy haynes he's quick on the last one well it
39:06will be very tight indeed but you never know i don't think he'd know he didn't quite manage that eddie
39:12williams 32.89 should have been tighter that rag gets it over the lip so much depends on how you do
39:22that final pull to get it over the lip it really cost you a lot of time as it did for matt rag there
39:30a pensive eye from hapthor Bjornsson this isn't sewn up yet he's going to have to put in a performance
39:36he's got a points lead if he does a decent top three performance he will win but his exhaustion
39:44level surely is at its highest it's ever been as he's on the right hand side the icelanders six foot
39:51nine against six foot six of johnson in the usa on the left both very quick on the first one well johnson
39:58needs to not only put in a great time here but he has to hope somehow that thor crumbles
40:03he wants to make a really precise work on that final lift of each weight he's getting over that
40:11lip and not taking any chances yes very deliberate here from hafthor Bjornsson as he gets ready to
40:17finish this off now he won't do quite enough to win the power stairs but it doesn't matter because he's
40:25done enough to win the strong man open goodness me great showing from johnson 36.59 but this is all
40:33about hafthor Bjornsson back with a bang his ninth giants live title on a fantastic night of strength
40:42yes you think about it a world record well that would have been enough he could have sat out and
40:46retired from there there's his mum and dad his son what a moment for him dad i think's in tears
40:53and he stayed on and fought he might not have won every event but he's won the world open too
40:59welcome back hafthor Bjornsson
41:05just a word for your perseverance your hardness the determination just to complete let alone win
41:13but just to get through it how mentally tough you are yeah you know i've gone through a lot i've fought a
41:20lot like i've been in sports a long time and you know if there's anything anything that i'm stronger
41:28that's to push myself to the limits and i tonight i definitely did that that was there were moments
41:35where i was just like i want to just quit but you know even though that thought comes in i'll never quit
41:41i know that within myself i would never quit but i'm gonna feel it tomorrow how do you do it how have
41:48you gone from basketball to strongman to boxing back up to doing what you're doing now and be as
41:54dominant as you are if there's anything that i know i learned a lot from my from my dad and from my
42:00grandfather just how to work hard they they taught me how to work hard and and uh there was this mindset
42:08when i was younger you just keep going no matter what you know there's no complaining you just
42:13move forward in life and you know it's paid off here a true viking performance unforgettable night
42:20thank you so much happy congratulations thank you so much thank you
42:24john paul sigverson magnus fair magnuson and of course this man
42:28hapthor Bjornsson the icelanders really do perform he's on top here at the world open ahead of johnson
