00:05when it assumes the ASEAN chairmanship in January next year.
00:09Its Department of Foreign Affairs issued the statement
00:11following a special meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers held yesterday.
00:17The ministers met on Monday in Kuala Lumpur to discuss the border situation
00:21and efforts to restore a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.
00:26The special meeting, shared by Foreign Minister Dato Sri Muhammad Hassan,
00:30was described as a platform to consider possible steps the bloc could take
00:34to support de-escalation and the cessation of hostilities.
00:38Malaysia said it was called in the interest of peace and stability
00:42between the two member states and the wider region.
00:46Thailand and Cambodia have since agreed for their defence chiefs to meet on December 24
00:50in a bid to resume a ceasefire that was initially negotiated in July
00:55and formalised in late October during the 47th ASEAN summit.
