U.S. military aircraft were seen taking off and landing at Roosevelt Roads naval station in Puerto Rico on Monday, as Washington intensifies its military posture in the Caribbean amid rising tensions with Venezuela.

The activity comes as President Donald Trump’s administration ramps up pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, deploying thousands of troops, warships, fighter jets, and an aircraft carrier to the region. U.S. forces have also carried out strikes on vessels suspected of drug trafficking and seized a sanctioned oil tanker off Venezuela’s coast.

The administration has described its actions as part of a broader effort to enforce sanctions and disrupt illegal trafficking routes, declaring a blockade on sanctioned oil shipments entering and leaving Venezuela.
