An Adelaide man has been decorating his home for almost two decades. He's amassed a collection of more than 50,000 lights with a soaring power bill to match. But he has no plans to stop what's become a tradition cherished by him and the community.

00:15The excitement that comes out, you know, they're jumping for joy and carrying on.

00:23It didn't start like this. This is 19 years of work.
00:26It began as a surprise for his two young daughters.
00:30They said, come outside. They just, we're in awe. They're ecstatic.
00:36And it's grown every year since, with visitors from all walks of life enjoying the display and meeting its creator.
00:44It changes every year. And even I don't know what it's going to be like. You know, it's my surprise as well.
00:50Joe's spent thousands of dollars over the years accumulating more than 50,000 lights and decorations.
00:59They take 10 weeks to set up, with his electricity bill soaring up to a grand a month over the festive period.
01:06But he says it's all worth it.

01:11Leaving a legacy of happy memories and a sprinkle of Christmas magic for all of his visitors to enjoy.
