00:00My name is Julia. I am 39 years old. I am married. My husband's name is Josh. He is 42 years old.
00:11We have been married for 12 years. We have two beautiful daughters. At first, life was good.
00:19We had a nice home. We had a nice car. I had a job. We were happy, and I thought it would always be like this.
00:30But now, everything has changed. I left my job. I left my job because of my new boss. She was rude and unfair.
00:42My family does not support me. I regret telling my husband the truth. I should have said they fired me or they cut my position.
00:54At first, my husband supported me. He said,
00:58You did the right thing. You don't need to suffer.
01:03But now he complains. He says,
01:07You stay at home all day. I am tired of paying for everything alone. I thought you would find a new job fast.
01:16I always dreamed of having a third child. I thought now is the right time. But when I told him, he started shouting.
01:27He said,
01:28You don't care about me. I cannot feed the family alone. I am tired of hearing the babies cry and always being sick.
01:40He remembered the old days. We both worked, but no one could pick up the children from kindergarten.
01:48One day, we even had to ask our neighbor to take them home. Now, our children are in school.
02:00I thought they will help me with the baby, but their father told them not to agree.
02:07My elder daughter said,
02:10We feel ashamed. Mom still wants more children.
02:15My mother-in-law also did not support me.
02:20She said,
02:21Your daughters will marry soon, and you think about a baby.
02:26I look for a job.
02:28I help my parents in their garden.
02:31I take care of the whole house because I don't work.
02:36But no one sees my hard work.
02:39Everyone wants me to clean the house, cook, take care of children, and also earn money.
02:47I spend almost nothing on myself.
02:51I wear old clothes.
02:53My mother sometimes gives me small gifts, a dress and some cream.
03:00I regret not saving money from my salary before.
03:04Now, I must ask my husband for every coin.
03:10I understand in my family I cannot expect any support.
03:16Every day feels heavy.
03:18I wake up early before everyone.
03:22I make breakfast, clean the kitchen, and prepare my children for school.
03:27No one says thank you.
03:29When my husband comes home from work, he looks tired, but he still finds time to say,
03:37Why didn't you find a job yet?
03:40His words hurt me.
03:42I feel small.
03:44I feel alone.
03:45Sometimes I look in the mirror and don't know this woman.
03:49I see tired eyes.
03:51I see no smile.
03:53I ask myself,
03:55Where is the happy Julia?
03:56What happened to strong Julia?
03:59Money is always a problem.
04:02The children need school things.
04:05The house needs repairs.
04:08But my wallet is empty.
04:11One day I went for a job interview.
04:14The boss said,
04:15We will call you.
04:17But they never called.
04:19I cried on the way home.
04:22At night, I sit at the kitchen table.
04:26Everyone sleeps.
04:27I drink tea and think about my life.
04:30I want to work to help my family.
04:34But I also want one more child.
04:38I don't know what is right.
04:41My husband sleeps in the bedroom.
04:43I sleep next to my daughters.
04:46Sometimes I hear my daughters whisper.
04:49I know they don't understand me.
04:53These are hard days.
04:55I feel like a guest in my own family.
04:59One morning, I could not get out of bed.
05:03My head hurt.
05:04My body felt heavy.
05:06I wanted to sleep forever.
05:08My husband shouted from the kitchen,
05:12Where is my shirt?
05:14Where is my lunch?
05:15I covered my ears with a blanket.
05:18I wanted silence.
05:20The children went to school.
05:23The house was empty.
05:25I sat on the floor and cried.
05:27I cried until my chest hurt.
05:29I thought, Why do I live like this?
05:33Why does no one see me?
05:36I give my time.
05:38I give my strength.
05:40I give my love.
05:41But I get nothing back.
05:43That day, I didn't cook.
05:45I didn't clean.
05:47When my husband came home,
05:50he looked angry.
05:52He said,
05:53What did you do all day?
05:55I answered,
05:56I tried to breathe.
05:57He didn't understand.
06:01He just shook his head and went to eat dinner.
06:04No one asked if I was okay.
06:07No one noticed my red eyes.
06:10At night, I went to the balcony.
06:13I looked at the stars.
06:15I thought maybe there is still a small light for me.
06:19Maybe one day things will change.
06:22I still had hope.
06:24The next day,
06:25I decided to try again.
06:28I looked for jobs on the computer.
06:31I wrote letters to many companies.
06:34I told my husband,
06:36I want to work.
06:38I want to help.
06:39He looked surprised.
06:41He said,
06:42It is good.
06:43I hope you find something soon.
06:46I went to two more interviews.
06:49One boss said,
06:50You are good,
06:51but we have no place now.
06:53The other said,
06:54Come next week.
06:55We may have a job.
06:58I felt a little happy.
07:00Maybe,
07:01just maybe,
07:02things will get better.
07:05At home,
07:06I talked to my daughters.
07:08I said,
07:09I want a third child,
07:11but I also want to work.
07:13They looked at me and said,
07:15We want you to be happy, Mom.
07:18My mother-in-law still said,
07:22You must think carefully,
07:24but I felt stronger now.
07:26I helped my parents more on the farm.
07:30I cleaned the house less.
07:32I rested more.
07:34I told myself,
07:35I can do this.
07:37I will try every day,
07:39even if it is hard.
07:41I want to be better for my family
07:44and for myself.
07:45One morning,
07:48I got a phone call.
07:52The company said,
07:55We want to hire you.
07:57I felt happy and scared
07:59at the same time.
08:01I told my husband,
08:03I have a new job.
08:05He smiled and said,
08:07I am proud of you.
08:10I began working again.
08:12It was hard at first,
08:14but I like to have my own money.
08:17I like to meet new people.
08:20My daughters helped me with the baby.
08:23They smiled more.
08:25Even my husband was kinder.
08:28I still want a third child one day.
08:32But now I know I am strong.
08:35I know I can take care of my family and myself.
08:39Life is not easy,
08:41but I learned to fight
08:43and I learned to hope.
08:45I am not alone anymore.
