00:00Previously, on Project Runway Canada...
00:03Is that bathroom tissue? Oh my God!
00:06This is a pairs challenge.
00:08But these aren't duos. They are duos.
00:11Do you think you're better than your duo mate?
00:13Absolutely.
00:14If I asked ChatGPT what is streetwear, it would be like a hoodie.
00:18Is this what's drying? Don't worry about it.
00:20I'm a little worried.
00:21There's no way that this is bathroom tissue.
00:23This looks so rich.
00:25Curtis, you are the winner.
00:27Maya, your storytelling gets so intelligent,
00:33but I'd rather the execution be par to your storytelling.
00:37I'm really happy with how it turned out.
00:39Okie dokie.
00:41Delaine, your look was too cliché.
00:43I'm sorry, but you are out.
00:46At stake for the winner from TV,
00:48a career-launching investment of $100,000
00:52and a feature in Elle Canada magazine
00:55with global supermodel Coco Rocha,
00:58fashion designer Spencer Badu,
01:01creative director Aurora James,
01:03and legendary fashion journalist Jeanne Becker.
01:07This is Project Runway Canada.
01:09Watch me do my thing.
01:19Shoes on shoes on shoes.
01:21Oh.
01:22I'll take these ones.
01:23I'll take these ones.
01:24I'm a shoe girl.
01:26So I know whatever's about to be thrown at us
01:28is going to be really exciting.
01:30Aurora's here.
01:32Hi, designers.
01:33Hi.
01:34Welcome to the Bada Shoe Museum.
01:37We are standing amongst one of the most comprehensive collections
01:41of footwear on the planet.
01:43Over 15,000 shoe artifacts and indigenous belongings
01:47are preserved right here under one roof,
01:50including a few pairs designed by yours truly.
01:54Oh.
01:56I love shoes.
01:57It really says a lot about somebody
01:59from what they're wearing on their feet.
02:01It's fitting we're here because for this week's challenge,
02:04shoes will serve as your inspiration.
02:08Each of you will design a high fashion look
02:11inspired by one of these distinct shoe styles.
02:15Your designs should not only complement this fabulous footwear,
02:19but tell the story of the person you envision wearing it.
02:22Those red thigh high boots are like, please do not give me those.
02:27The judges are going to be looking for some serious creativity this week.
02:32So make sure you kick it up a notch.
02:34Curtis, you won the last challenge.
02:37So you get to pick first.
02:39Choose wisely.
02:41Hmm.
02:42It might seem a bit obvious,
02:45but I think I'm going to select the Victorian boot.
02:48They're even cuter up close.
02:51There you go.
02:52Which designer do you choose to follow in your footsteps?
02:57Hmm, another really hard decision.
03:00Because I had to beat her last challenge,
03:03I'll let Maya choose next.
03:05I think I'm going to have to go with the 60s Mondrian boots.
03:08Next, I have to pick my Montreal sister, Kat.
03:11I want those cowboy boots for sure.
03:13My safe space.
03:14I want to bring that aesthetic to a high fashion level.
03:17I'm choosing plastic.
03:19It's week six, so I'm not going to pick a shoe
03:21that's going to keep me in my comfort zone.
03:23I'm going to pick the black and white saddle shoe.
03:27Wrong.
03:28I'm going to go with hologram shoes.
03:31Because I'm from the future.
03:33Leland.
03:36I think I'm going to stick with my comfort zone
03:38and clearly go with the red hat and thigh highs.
03:41And of course, last but not least, Charles,
03:44do you want to come up and grab yours?
03:46I was picked last because I'm a threat, and that's okay.
03:49Charles, that means you get the fluffy stilettos.
03:52But what the hell am I going to do with this?
03:54To start you off on the right foot,
03:56TD is providing the winner of this challenge with $5,000.
04:01Yay!
04:02Oh, my God!
04:03This will be a two-day challenge.
04:06You have 30 minutes to sketch here at the museum
04:09before we head to the fabric shop,
04:11where you'll have $500 to spend.
04:14Good luck.
04:15Oh, let's go.
04:17Ooh, these are cute.
04:18Let's sketch, baby.
04:20Place these here for inspiration.
04:22I feel that everybody picked the shoe that is instinctive to them.
04:26I actually don't know too much about the black and white saddle shoe.
04:30I just really like it,
04:31and I think it would be smart to show the judges something new.
04:34I'm really going to tap into, like, my drag references.
04:38This boot just means a lot for the drag community that I know.
04:42I've sewn for so many queens in Toronto, it's insane.
04:46So I just think that this, like, strong, feminine checkerboard print look
04:51could just be so cool on the runway.
04:53I'm trying to do something that is creative
04:56and still has ties to the drag community.
04:59Like, I feel like I should be doing it for my dolls, you know?
05:02Yeah.
05:03I'm thinking I'm going to go pirate.
05:05Like, fierce female captain of a pirate ship, you know?
05:10I decide to take the shipwrecked approach with this look
05:13because the shoe is Victorian,
05:15which leads you to think corsetry and lace
05:18and all of the things I've already done.
05:20But if I can take us back out onto the sea
05:22and do something that feels more fun,
05:24I might catch the judges off guard.
05:26So I'm going to do a wide leg pair of culottes
05:29with a matching taffeta vest,
05:31some off-the-shoulder deconstructed puff sleeves
05:33and a long train in the back.
05:35I'm excited for this.
05:37I don't know what I have to do to impress the judges this week.
05:40Two of my favorite looks I've done so far had me in the bottom.
05:43So that sucks.
05:45But I'm just trying to really let these shoes speak to me.
05:50The shoe screams 60s.
05:52So I'm referencing that classic mod silhouette of that A-line mini dress.
05:57And I really want the look to reference all of the lines happening on the shoes.
06:02And I'm going to find a way to sneak the color in subtly.
06:07All right, everybody. Time to go shopping.
06:10Let's do it.
06:11All right, designers. You have 30 minutes and $500 to shop.
06:21All right, go.
06:22Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
06:24Which gray will win?
06:29This is not what I'm looking for.
06:33I'm looking for.
06:34I'm thinking I want to get chiffon because I want to do something a little bit different.
06:41But at the same time, that's still, like, Western.
06:44So I want to do a jacket with ruffle sleeves and a pair of chops over a mini skirt.
06:52What do you think about this base of a skirt jacket and then the ruffles over it?
06:58Is it, like, bizarre?
07:00It's either going to be a hot mess or, like, haute couture.
07:05Yeah, okay.
07:10All right, where are you going to go with this?
07:11I'm going right here.
07:13Oh, wow. Okay.
07:15Mm-hmm.
07:16The word that's coming to my head is the word that I do not want to say out loud to you again.
07:21100%. I love that word, but also hate that word.
07:24Uh-huh.
07:25Remember, we're looking for high fashion.
07:27Oh, high fashion.
07:28Do you know how hard it is to make a red patent thigh-high boot not look kinky boots?
07:34All right.
07:35Hologram.
07:36We're hologramming.
07:37Yes.
07:38I mean, this is very cool.
07:39I'm looking for holographic fabrics that actually matches the shoes.
07:44I want to make sure that whatever I'm selecting stays in that high fashion range because some holographic fabric have a tendency to look a bit cheap.
07:56Designer, ten minutes left. We need you to hustle.
08:00There's literally not any pleated white fabric at all here, so I'm getting a little flustered and I'm just panicking.
08:07I just don't have the fabrics that I was looking for, so I'm trying to pivot.
08:12I decided to create a white pleather kind of overdress that has cutouts.
08:17That's definitely more me.
08:19Giddy up, cowgirl. Let's go.
08:21Yes, yes.
08:23Time is up.
08:25Ta-da.
08:26Grab your TD cards. We gotta go.
08:29Let's go.
08:34Let's do it.
08:36Where am I?
08:37Let's go.
08:38I'm here. I'm back at our original spot.
08:40Oh, it's Foster.
08:42I'm with Curtis.
08:43Table Buddies for the first time?
08:45I know.
08:46There is a rumor that anyone who sits on the table with Curtis is going to be eliminated.
08:51Challenge number one, I'm Table Buddies with Naomi.
08:54Naomi, you are out.
08:56Challenge number three, I'm Table Buddies with Dal Rumik.
08:59Dal Rumik, you are out.
09:01Whether the table curse is real or not, watch out.
09:04You worried about the curse?
09:05Official high five.
09:06I am not worried about the curse because I'm a curse breaker, baby.
09:09Okay.
09:10A curse breaker.
09:11Okay.
09:12It is super important that I nail this because I feel like these shoes actually fit my aesthetic.
09:19I'm pretty happy with the shoe that I picked.
09:21My inspiration for this design is a girl that is clubbing in the year 3000.
09:26So I'm definitely thinking hologram vest top with a skin-tight shirt and cargo pants.
09:33This is a great opportunity for me to actually show the judges what I can do and what my brand is about.
09:38I'm actually excited about this one.
09:40I'm happy for you.
09:42I didn't love being safe last week.
09:48It's not a great feeling.
09:50I'm just feeling a little bit overlooked.
09:52I'm pushing the boundaries and I need that to be recognized.
09:56It's a lot of damn work.
09:57What's your idea, Charles?
09:59I want to do like a bustier and a pant.
10:01The shoe itself is very feminine.
10:03It can pull lingerie.
10:04It can pull boudoir.
10:05It can pull old Hollywood.
10:07And I do not want to go in that direction.
10:09So I'm trying to bring more masculine energy to it.
10:12I'm going to be making these voluminous baby blue trousers with this structured peplum bodice.
10:18This challenge is called step it up.
10:20And that's what I'm going to do.
10:21So I'm happy.
10:22I get to play with color.
10:23Nice.
10:24And I never want to play with color.
10:26I know this holographic material is a lot.
10:31And it is very easy to make this look cheap.
10:34But I'm hoping to cut the red and the black up into mini squares and create my own fabric with it.
10:41Your checkerboard looks sick, Leland.
10:43Thanks, honey.
10:44You made that in like a minute.
10:45It was like three minutes, but...
10:56Hey, designers.
10:59Hello.
11:00Curtis, your fabrics are so fun.
11:06Tell me what you're going to do with them.
11:07So I got these lovely Victorian lace-up boots.
11:11And I decided to take it to the high seas.
11:14Let's just make sure that when it's on the runway, it feels like fashion first, not pirate first.
11:19Yes, of course. I'll make sure it's still fashion.
11:21Your model's walking the runway, not the plank. At least we hope.
11:24Ah!
11:25The tide is rising.
11:26Woo!
11:27Don't drown.
11:31I came up with something that like really feels like me, you know?
11:34How are you going to bring it high fashion?
11:36Oh, I believe...
11:37Because this fabric is very like stretchy, very hologram-y.
11:42It's a little Superman-y camp.
11:45Sure, it gives me a little superhero and a little cosplay.
11:49But I also feel like sometimes like we all take fashion too seriously.
11:53I'm like, we need to have fun.
11:55I think it'll look really mod.
11:57And I'm hoping some cool really graphic stuff will not look superhero-y.
12:02I think it'll look a bit more high fashion.
12:04Great!
12:05All I want is high fashion.
12:07Great.
12:08Great.
12:10So what colors do you have?
12:11You have pink, blue, and white.
12:14Slut.
12:15For me, this is a big jump.
12:16I could go full on white with this look, but I don't want to.
12:20This competition is helping me figure out how I can express myself in new ways.
12:25And for me to play with color is kind of big.
12:28So you chose fabrics that I feel are very elevated.
12:34Mm-hmm.
12:35They're also very quiet and minimal.
12:38So how are you going to make this look really pop?
12:40I think I'm going to lean into my styling and tailoring menswear experience.
12:44Time has not historically been on your side.
12:47This time, I am definitely pushing myself.
12:49I am making a blazer and a super baggy pair of smoky gray pants in two days.
12:55I think it would be great for me to show the judges something that is new.
12:58I'm going to win this week.
13:00I'm stepping on the gas and working as fast as I can.
13:04Hey, Laura.
13:05Hi.
13:06You picked one of your favorite shoes.
13:08This shoe is very you.
13:09You've been given a lot of advice over the past several weeks.
13:13Mm-hmm.
13:14And I'm not sure how much of it you've actually listened to.
13:16Oh.
13:17Great.
13:18Towards the end sometimes of the process, you can see that you're struggling and the execution
13:23isn't there.
13:24And that's what the judges are starting to notice.
13:26I am feeling very misunderstood by the judges.
13:29You're in the bottom of the last two weeks in a row.
13:32I think I should have won every challenge along the way.
13:34But it is not a good feeling to be in the bottom.
13:36And I really want that to change this week.
13:39I think that there's definitely a lot of things that I absolutely need to work on throughout
13:44the past couple weeks.
13:45And I'm trying to bring all those things in.
13:46What you've sketched is really good.
13:49I really appreciate that.
13:50Thank you, Laura.
13:51It is really good.
13:52And that's why you're here.
13:54She seems to really like my idea and be really encouraging of it.
13:57So I'm trying to focus on that.
13:59It's hard for me to really know what exactly the judges want, because sometimes they're
14:04loving my storytelling.
14:05Sometimes they're saying it's too much.
14:07So I'm doing what I want and hoping that they like it.
14:11Designers, I think a lot of you made really safe shoe choices.
14:17And I'm not sure that the person who plays it safe is the person that's going to win $100,000.
14:24You've got three and a half hours.
14:27Let's see what you guys got.
14:30Bye.
14:31Get into it.
14:32I have to focus on the holographic vest.
14:47I want to get that done and get it out of the way, because I want to see if this look
14:51is going to be high fashion enough.
14:53If not, then I could just scrap it.
14:55It can look very costumey and I'm just trying to stay away from that.
14:58The street can be high fashion.
14:59Can it though?
15:00Because...
15:01Yeah, street can be high fashion.
15:02I'm going to have to...
15:04I'm going to pull something out.
15:05Yeah, you'll be fine.
15:07It's a new day.
15:16I still think the competition is anyone's game, but I'm feeling pretty good about my design.
15:20It's definitely different from everyone else's.
15:22We have Rome doing a holographic jacket.
15:26Curtis is pirating it up.
15:28Leland is doing something that I simply cannot even understand what's going on over there.
15:33And I also see some ruffle thing from Kat.
15:37Girl, I don't know.
15:38How's your top coming?
15:40I did the bodice.
15:41I'm just waiting for the model.
15:43But I decided to scratch the skirt.
15:45Oh yeah?
15:46I'll do pants instead.
15:47Last night in my room, I tried a pair of chaps over one of my mini skirts and it really
15:54didn't work.
15:55So I'll just play it safe and do pants instead.
15:58We're not going to see a lot of the shoe, but we're going to see the inspiration.
16:03The shoe are going to be hidden by ruffles.
16:10You're such a technical person, Foster.
16:13Me?
16:14Yeah.
16:15Like the way that you approach your work, like you're very, you know?
16:19I never actually saw myself as that.
16:22I've been trying to make it as a designer for over 15 years.
16:25But my full-time job is a PSW.
16:28I work with the elderly.
16:29Being a PSW and being a fashion designer, it's been really challenging.
16:33It's not enough to be hopeful.
16:35I need a sign.
16:36Sometimes you just need the reassurance.
16:38Well, I never said it looked good.
16:40Oh.
16:41I'm just kidding.
16:42Oh my goodness.
16:43Isn't it fun being at a table with me?
16:46Oh, I love it.
16:47Wouldn't have it any other way.
16:49How are you going with your stuff?
16:51It's going good.
16:52I'm still going to keep it slightly straight, but more elevated straight.
16:58The whole point of this outfit is that I have to match it with the shoes.
17:03And so I still need this holographic fabric.
17:05And now I'm thinking maybe I do these triangle events using the hologram fabric.
17:11It's time the judges get on the train to Rome.
17:14This is the week.
17:16All roads lead to Rome.
17:19You're painting beads?
17:22Why?
17:23I just want them to be really clean and blend in.
17:26My plan is basically to secure these panels together with white pearls and black thread,
17:32which will blend into the dress underneath.
17:34A bit of the black thread is poking through, so I grab some white paint.
17:38Let's make it look perfect and clean.
17:40You're like, why are you doing that?
17:43Being self-taught, I want to prove to my family that you can succeed.
17:47My parents moved here from the USSR before it was Russia.
17:51And my dad had some pretty high ambitions for me to be a doctor,
17:55and it was very hard for him to accept that I wasn't going to follow the path he wanted for me.
18:02And I want to prove that you are the person who can create your own destiny.
18:06Hey, everyone.
18:08Hey.
18:09All right, who is looking for their soulmate?
18:12Ooh.
18:13I've got your models.
18:15Come on in, everyone.
18:16Yay!
18:19Hey.
18:20So nice to meet you.
18:21You're so good.
18:22Hi, Christina.
18:23I'm Leland.
18:24Pleasure.
18:25So the pants is really perfect.
18:27I don't even think I'm going to change it at all, actually.
18:32I'm feeling great.
18:33I really like the ruffles.
18:35And the tweed adds a little luxury high fashion to the garment.
18:40Cool to see these attached.
18:42Yeah.
18:43So where are the other colors?
18:45So the plan is to have them underneath here.
18:47But do you think it would be better to shorten the thick band at the bottom or shorten this row?
18:52I think shortening the thick band at the bottom.
18:55Yeah.
18:56Because I think it feels heavy.
18:57The other thing that I would just say is, like, really making sure that these attachments feel clean and intentional.
19:03Yeah.
19:04Yeah, definitely agree that that will be a priority.
19:06Excited to see it continue coming together.
19:07All right.
19:09Thanks.
19:10Zimbabwe.
19:12Give me, like, a huge flex.
19:13Just...
19:14Oh, my God.
19:15Uh, hello, gun show.
19:16Okay.
19:17Those shoes can very easily give bedroom.
19:20Yes.
19:21And nothing about this look says bedroom.
19:22Yes.
19:23So you've really elevated the shoe.
19:24Taking the...
19:25We're out of the boudoir.
19:26Out of the boudoir, and we're hopefully at the Met Gala.
19:29Yes.
19:30I'm very happy.
19:31For me, I'm pulling out all the stops here.
19:33Here, up.
19:34Yeah.
19:35Feeling it.
19:36There, trusting you.
19:37Okay.
19:38I have not made trousers in this competition, so this is a huge leap for me.
19:42I want to win because if we're going to talk about pushing yourself to the absolute limits,
19:47and then also designing a look based on a shoe that you didn't pick, like, this is a huge challenge for me.
19:52So this moment will come in here.
19:55Today, I'm seeing all of my elements start to blend and merge into each other, and I'm feeling really confident in my textile choices, as well as my silhouette.
20:03I mean, even the way that just felt, like, naturally, I'm obsessed with this.
20:07So the runway might be demanding a little bit more drama than what this is giving right now.
20:14Oh yeah, for sure.
20:15Because right now, it feels really safe.
20:17Yeah, yeah, yeah.
20:18And I think in order to take it to a high fashion place for the runway, you just need to exaggerate something a bit more.
20:23Yeah, I'm already thinking. I'm already thinking.
20:28So from the front, when she's coming down the runway, it'll just look like she's wearing an all-black look with those.
20:34Yes.
20:35Is that too risky?
20:36Don't you think that there should be some nod to that shoe in the front of the garment?
20:41There just needs to be a connection to the shoe.
20:43Okay.
20:44Aurora is right, so what I'm gonna do is add pants around the front of the pants as well.
20:50This entire thing, I'm gonna have to redo it.
20:53All right, models, time to head out.
20:56See you tomorrow.
20:57See you tomorrow.
20:58More than ever this week, we need these looks to be well executed.
21:05The highest of high fashion.
21:07I will leave you to it.
21:12Laura.
21:17Foster, what are you adding to your suit?
21:19I'm just adding some red accents on the shoulders.
21:23I picked this shoe specifically for the reason that I do not want to play it safe.
21:28I'm going to accentuate the shoulders, gonna give them a little bit of drama, and instead of baggy pants, I'm going to make a skirt.
21:35I just wanted to make it more interesting.
21:45I'm kind of having a bit of a freak out.
21:47I'm not happy with the pearls.
21:49You don't like the pearls.
21:50I don't like that you can see the black thread.
21:53I'm just feeling super frustrated.
21:55Take a sec.
21:56I'm so stressed out.
21:59You got this, honey.
22:01You got this.
22:02The judges have mentioned that my execution sometimes doesn't measure up, and I don't know how to fix this.
22:08What am I going to do?
22:20Let's go!
22:22Let's get started.
22:23Runway, runway.
22:28Walking into the workroom this morning, we have so many little things to see through.
22:33But I think it's finally hit us that we're short on time, and we're short on energy.
22:38I just need to move as fast as I possibly can.
22:42I wanted to do the vents on the pans, but I don't have the time for it, and this isn't a time to figure it out.
22:49Foster.
22:51How are you doing?
22:53This is just a weird place to be.
22:54I come in here, and I'm like, yeah, I got this.
22:57And then I start sewing, and I'm like, no, I don't got it.
23:01Yeah.
23:02And then so I have to keep the faith.
23:05I think being an immigrant in Canada, I'm not just here fighting for myself.
23:10I'm fighting for my parents to represent them, to give them something more than what they've achieved.
23:16So I just got to make this work.
23:23All right, designers.
23:24It is boots on the ground.
23:27No time to waste today.
23:30Models, come on in.
23:32Hi.
23:34Good morning.
23:35Hey.
23:36Oh, my God.
23:37My model's arrived, and nothing is really completed yet.
23:40Give me two seconds.
23:42I'm going to pin this, and then we'll get you fitted.
23:44Ooh, girl.
23:45You definitely brought some drama from yesterday.
23:49Yes.
23:50This is what I had in mind.
23:51Love that a lot.
23:52I put in some red fabric.
23:55What happened to the pants?
23:56You decided to do a skirt?
23:57I just felt like the pants would just be quite predictable.
24:00Do you think it's too long?
24:02As it is right now, yes.
24:05I'm going to shorten the length of the skirt because I want the shoe to shine.
24:09And then just focus on everything being, like, neat.
24:12Perfect.
24:13Clean.
24:14Sharp.
24:15Polished.
24:16Got you.
24:18All right, how are we looking?
24:20So I'm really happy.
24:22I think it's almost there.
24:24How much are we showing of the shoe?
24:26The shoe is an inspiration.
24:28Right.
24:29So the answer is very little of the shoe.
24:31Yeah.
24:32We see it, and it's really working well.
24:34Yes, those shoes are ahead, but no, I don't think it's going to be a problem.
24:39This is actually, like, really well done.
24:42But this is a lot.
24:45Is there ever a world where you would consider just cutting these off?
24:51I don't know.
24:52It's just something to consider.
24:54The ruffles are perfect.
24:56She's crazy.
24:57I don't want to cut those sleeves.
24:59I will not cut them off.
25:00He will not cut it off.
25:01I love those sleeves.
25:02I'm not cutting them.
25:04Never.
25:06So what happened here?
25:08How did you...
25:09I glued it at least so that we could try it.
25:11I thought, you know, better it's all together than in pieces.
25:14What about O-rings in, like, a Paco Rabanne way?
25:18Okay.
25:19I'm going to go for the O-rings.
25:20We're going to make it happen.
25:22But I have no idea how long it's going to take.
25:25I've never done this before.
25:28Is it lower?
25:29Is it like a this kind of moment?
25:30The feathers are beautiful.
25:32I love this little dip-painted feather moment.
25:36It's so edgy and fun.
25:38I think this is the vibe.
25:40It's giving a little Vivienne Westwood sex collection.
25:42It's giving a little, like, Betsy Johnson.
25:45This isn't giving Vivienne Westwood sex.
25:48Listen up.
25:49It'll make sense.
25:50But definitely, it will.
25:51I must have missed that.
25:52I must have missed that collection.
25:53I think so too.
25:54Is it high fashion?
25:57Yes and no.
25:58But it screams me.
26:01I'm not worried.
26:02All right, designers.
26:03An hour and a half until runway.
26:06Let's go.
26:07Let's go.
26:08Let's go.
26:09I have an hour and a half left.
26:13And I'm going to completely redo how this look is secured.
26:17I wish I hadn't wasted time on all the other options.
26:21The rings look good.
26:23Let's put this one on just to see what it looks like.
26:26I'm looking around the work room and I don't see the shoe being the star.
26:32And I hope the judges see that.
26:34I'm just so happy with my buttons.
26:36Look.
26:37Kat's tweed ruffle thing.
26:41Let's just say I would not have chosen those fabrics.
26:45Okay, designers.
26:46When you're ready, start taking your models to the L'Oreal Paris glam room.
26:55I love a glowing moment and I love shining skin.
26:58Oh, she's going to glow.
26:59I was thinking like a bold black liner.
27:02Oh, I love that idea.
27:04So I'm going to use the shadow stick that comes in shimmers and matte.
27:08It's transfer proof.
27:09It's easy to glide on.
27:10And it's going to add this multi-dimensional feel so that the black doesn't just overwhelm her eye.
27:16I'm so excited to see how it turns out.
27:18Guys, we have 10 minutes left.
27:20My God, you guys.
27:21The anxiety.
27:23Is anybody else freaking out?
27:25My hand's sewing as fast as I can.
27:27These zippers are going to be the death of me.
27:31Oh, God.
27:33Do Project Runway, they said.
27:35It'll be fun, they said.
27:37Final looks.
27:38The runway's in one minute.
27:41Ay, ay, ay.
27:42I'm just going to futz with this front panel just to shmeetle.
27:48Let's see what's going on here.
27:49So I made this vest and I don't know whether I should keep it or lose it.
27:55We got to make a game time decision here.
27:58This is what it looks like.
28:00If I remove it, then there's barely anything tying the outfit to the shoes.
28:06So it is going to stay.
28:09Time to head to the runway.
28:10Let's go.
28:11Let's do it.
28:12Let's do it.
28:13Let's go.
28:14Let's do it.
28:15Let's go.
28:16Let's do it.
28:17Woo-hoo.
28:18Do it like, do it like this.
28:20Do it like, do it like, do it like this.
28:22Do it like, do it like this.
28:23Do it like, do it?
28:24Do it like this.
28:26Hi, designers.
28:28Hi, Ryan.
28:29Welcome back to The Runway.
28:32This week, you were asked to create a look inspired
28:34by a distinct shoe style.
28:37A look that doesn't just match the shoe,
28:40but tells a story of its unique identity.
28:43And you all dove in feet first.
28:46But, just like a pair of flip flops,
28:49in this competition, you can be in one day and out the next.
28:55Please welcome your judges.
28:57Fashion designer, Spencer Badu.
28:59Nice to see you.
29:00Fashion journalist, Jeannie Becker.
29:02Hi, designers, you all look so wonderful.
29:05And, meet the NFL's first ever fashion editor,
29:10stylist, Kyle Smith.
29:12Hi, designers.
29:13Hi.
29:14Kyle Smith is here.
29:16Fingers crossed he likes my look.
29:18Let's get this show started.
29:27Oh, she looks so good.
29:29This might be one of my favorite looks I've made during this competition.
29:32The fit is correct.
29:34The shoes are shining.
29:35And, the cherry on top, a gorgeous train flowing from the back,
29:40just like the waves of the high, high seas.
29:46Oh, my model is stomping the runway and just serving it.
29:50I'm so proud of this look.
29:51It takes that period inspiration, but it brings it to all the things that I love.
29:55I'm really glad I pivoted to the O-rings.
29:57I just love that clean, circular shape, and I think it just worked so well for the look.
30:02I feel pretty confident in the design.
30:05This garment is built from the pair of shoes, and that was a challenge.
30:09The vest definitely is catching my eye,
30:11but I just want her to take it off so they can see the back.
30:15It has that iridescent thing going on so when the lights are hitting it,
30:19it is hitting it in the right places.
30:27I want to show the judges tailoring and something that is adventurous and exciting.
30:32Of course, there's the red showing on the shoulders,
30:35and I am so glad I made the skirt shorter.
30:39My outfit really exists in the realm of the shoe.
30:43Now, that is high fashion.
30:47This looks a mix of an upper east side and a countryside girl.
30:52I really worked on those ruffles to be perfect and to blend in together
30:58and to fit in the color palette.
31:01I love it.
31:04This, to me, gives a bit of high fashion, you know?
31:07And I see the drag that I wanted to bring to it.
31:09I love it. It's so fun.
31:11I love the skirt. I love the corset. I love the feathers.
31:15It's really campy and me.
31:18Everything on it's super primo.
31:22For me, the shoe here is the star.
31:25I know women who would die to wear this.
31:30Trousers are really unexpected in this look.
31:33Just wanted to flex my couture muscle,
31:35and I just wanted to show my skill here.
31:38I feel like I deserve to win.
31:44Designers, please step up to the runway.
31:51Some of you knocked our socks off in this challenge,
31:55but unfortunately, it may be time for the other shoe to drop.
31:59When I call your name, please step forward.
32:06Charles.
32:08Curtis.
32:10You two are in.
32:13Congratulations.
32:14You can leave the runway.
32:17Congratulations, guys.
32:18We're in.
32:19Back to the couch.
32:21I'm just confused because I honestly thought you'd be in the top.
32:32I thought you'd be in the top, but safe is just as sexy to me.
32:36I'm kind of gobsmacked.
32:37I poured my heart into that piece,
32:40and for me to be safe is really strange.
32:43The five of you make up tonight's highest and lowest scores,
32:47but only one of you can be the winner.
32:51Let's start with one of our favorite looks of the night.
32:58Foster.
32:59I'm really impressed with this look.
33:01You let the shoe start the sentence,
33:03but you finished it off with the outfit.
33:06I picked this shoe because I wanted it to push me outside of my comfort zone.
33:10I wanted it to be different.
33:12I really love it.
33:13I love the juxtaposition of the structured jacket and the flowy skirt.
33:16I think there's something very poetic about it.
33:18The draping of the skirt is gorgeous,
33:20and it really shows off the shoes, which was this week's challenge.
33:23For me, the cherry on top was the little peaks of red
33:26and the little slits on the shoulders.
33:28That's a very ambitious thing to create a jacket of that nature.
33:32Yeah.
33:32And you're really pushing yourself, and we all really appreciate that.
33:37We're really proud of you, Foster. Good job.
33:39Thank you so much.
33:40Now let's bring out one of our least favorite looks of the night.
33:44I'm going to start putting my hands out.
33:47You had your hand out ready there, Ron.
33:50I wish there was no vest.
33:52I know.
33:54As you made her take it off right now, I was curious why you didn't make her take it off
33:58and therefore, it cheapens that look.
34:00I liked the vest.
34:02The silhouette was the only cool thing.
34:04When I saw the back, I said, oh, you incorporated the shoes.
34:07You understood the point of this challenge, but it was hidden.
34:10It was hidden behind the vest.
34:12I didn't see enough imagination in the look,
34:15and I know that you're really capable of that.
34:17I thought it was rather lackluster.
34:19I think my biggest issue was the pants with the hem of the bell-bottom.
34:23You had the best shoes of them all.
34:25I love those shoes.
34:27But we really don't even know what that shoe really looks like to get this idea out.
34:32Makes sense.
34:33Makes sense.
34:34Let's bring out the next look, which also received one of the lowest scores.
34:39Damn.
34:41When I saw this come down, I was getting maybe comic book character.
34:45One of the criteria of this challenge was to make it feel high fashion.
34:49When I got the, like, thigh-high red hologram boot,
34:54to me, that, like, represents my community.
34:57These boots are costume boots.
34:59I get a little bit of what you're doing,
35:02however taste-wise to us, it was a little cheap.
35:06It felt like Santa's helper on top,
35:08just her in the middle, and then
35:11the most gorgeous shoes I've ever seen on the bottom.
35:13These boots.
35:14Maybe, Leland, you're good under a little pressure
35:17and a little bit of constraints.
35:19The denim challenge and the bathroom tissue challenge,
35:22those were your best looks.
35:25I think this one's more costuming for me, right?
35:28Let's bring out our next favorite look of the night.
35:32Well, this look made my heart sing.
35:38I'm a child of the 60s.
35:40I mean, this is my era.
35:41Absolutely loved it.
35:42I saw these gorgeous 60s boots,
35:45and what came to mind was bringing in a bit more deconstruction and edginess.
35:50You turned Bauhaus and you made a badass, you know?
35:53I really love this look.
35:54I think the panels are very cool.
35:56I think it brings in the lines,
35:57but I think we needed some color.
36:00But storytelling, check, and execution, check.
36:03Yeah.
36:04Thank you, Mariana.
36:05Thank you, Mariana.
36:07This last design received one of the lowest scores.
36:10So, uh, I got to pick cowboy boots.
36:19I really wanted to, uh, to do a pair of chaps to make it a little bit more chic.
36:25I didn't even know it was a boot.
36:27In every look, there's been a little bit of a cowgirl.
36:30And I think in this case, the pant is consuming the look.
36:34It's very beautifully constructed.
36:36I think if you just cut away some of the frills, it actually could be quite nice.
36:41Less certainly could have been more.
36:43Thank you, Kat.
36:47Thank you, designers.
36:49We have some very tough decisions to make.
36:52You can leave the runway.
36:58That was crazy.
36:59That was wild.
37:01Super wild.
37:02It's nice to have them say something nice for once.
37:04I really had no idea how it was going to go.
37:06So, just a huge relief.
37:08Right, judges, who do we think should win this week?
37:11I loved Foster.
37:14I think if you could do a classic look and add your spin to it, that's real talent.
37:18I loved a little peekaboo red.
37:20You know, it's elegant, it's minimal.
37:22It had Foster's handwriting all over it.
37:25But it is no secret that I adore 60s fashion, and I thought Maya's take on it was pretty fabulous.
37:34Those are some great details, too.
37:36It's the hardware.
37:37We really saw what Maya had to offer.
37:39I love how she was able to take a concept and push it in, like, a bit of a punk direction.
37:45Let's move on to who should be going home.
37:48I did not like this Leland look.
37:50It was shockingly bad.
37:53That was costume to the max.
37:56Yeah.
37:57Something that we have encouraged Leland to steer away from.
38:00Let's not forget, Kat, did you know those were boots?
38:03I didn't even see the boots at all.
38:05It was kind of a turn off for me.
38:06I think we could have done away with all the chiffon layers and frills.
38:11That would have been so lovely if it was just that body suit.
38:15I just don't understand the thought process there.
38:19What about Rome?
38:20Did not need the jacket.
38:21Wears something more awe-inspiring.
38:24It certainly wasn't fashion-forward, except for the detailing on the back of the top.
38:29Exactly.
38:30That was the one strong point of that outfit.
38:33Ah.
38:34All right.
38:35I think we've made our decisions.
38:37Let's bring the designers back out.
38:44Maya.
38:45Yes.
38:46Foster.
38:47We were impressed by the way you both paid homage to your footwear.
38:52The winning look tonight was cohesive, concise, and felt high fashion.
38:58The winner of this challenge is Foster.
39:02Oh!
39:03Congratulations.
39:04Oh, my God.
39:05What?
39:06I won?
39:07That is wild.
39:09Because you put your best foot forward in this challenge, TD is stepping up with a $5,000
39:16cash prize.
39:17Thank you so much.
39:18It means the world to me.
39:20I've been working hard to show you that I'm able to do it.
39:23I'm so grateful.
39:24The last few weeks, I've been just fighting to get my courage and confidence back.
39:30Like, this boy from a small town in Zimbabwe is a winner on Project Runway Canada.
39:37And I'm here living the dream.
39:38It's incredible.
39:39Maya, you are also in.
39:42You can both leave the runway.
39:44Yeah.
39:45Congratulations.
39:47Thank you so much.
39:48It means a lot.
39:49It means a lot.
39:50It means a lot.
39:51It means a lot.
39:52It means a lot.
39:53Rome.
39:54Leland.
39:55Cat.
39:56Your designs left us asking, where's the high fashion?
39:59Which, in this challenge, was a huge misstep.
40:12Leland.
40:14You are in.
40:15You can leave the runway.
40:16Thank you so much.
40:17I'm going to go cry my eyeballs out.
40:21I love you guys so much.
40:24This was an incredibly difficult decision to make.
40:29We know you're both talented, but at this point in the competition, the bar is high,
40:35and both of your looks fell short.
40:38I'm so sorry, but you're both out.
40:47Both of us.
40:48I wasn't ready for that.
40:50I'm feeling devastated, but even for the look tonight, there's still no regrets.
40:57Thank you both so much.
40:59Can't wait to see what you guys do next.
41:02Have a great night.
41:09Wait.
41:10So what's happening?
41:11Yeah, we're both going home.
41:12Yeah.
41:13What?
41:14What?
41:15You're both going home?
41:16Yes.
41:17I'm so sorry, guys.
41:18I didn't feel I deserved to go home.
41:21Rome missed the mark, so to be sent home with him, I'm just pissed, and it was a well-made
41:27outfit.
41:28Yeah.
41:29Hello.
41:30Hi.
41:31I want you personally to know that I am incredibly proud of each of you.
41:39I've fallen in love with your work.
41:41I know we're going to keep seeing you.
41:43Naturally.
41:44It's time to say goodbye.
41:46Bye, guys.
41:47Bye, guys.
41:48Bye, guys.
41:49I'm so proud of you.
41:51We're going to miss you.
41:52We love you both.
41:53I'm so proud of you.
41:54I'm going to sell those ruffles on my website, and I'll buy them.
41:57I'm proud of myself, but this competition, it's really harder than you think.
42:03I just love creating, and I know Maison Prefontaine is going to go big.
