02:00¡Oh, Dios mío!
02:05¡Oh, Dios mío!
02:07¡Coco Rocha!
02:09¡Oh, Dios mío!
02:11¡Coco se ve tan fabuloso!
02:14¡She just exudes una energía confidente.
02:16¡I just hope I can dress her un día!
02:18¡Oh, Dios mío!
02:20¡Bienvenidos a Project Runway Canada, designers!
02:25¡This es un momento muy grande para todos ustedes!
02:28¡But no olvides que solo uno de ustedes va a nombrar Canada's next great fashion designer!
02:34¡Want to know what you're competing for?
02:36¡Yes!
02:37¡A feature spread in El Canada magazine!
02:41¡And from TD!
02:44¡A career launching investment of $100,000!
02:48¡Oh!
02:50¡Bravo!
02:51¡That's insane!
02:53¡But I'm not the only one joining you on this ride!
02:56¡Ok!
02:56¡She's a celebrated designer, author, activist, and industry visionary!
03:03¡Your mentor, Aurora James!
03:07¡Aurora is incredible!
03:09¡She's had a huge impact on the fashion world!
03:11¡It's so inspiring!
03:12¡We love you!
03:13¡I am so honored to be your mentor!
03:19¡Are you ready to hear about your first challenge?
03:20¡Yes!
03:21¡Yes!
03:22¡Well, designers, I've come with some baggage!
03:26¡Oh!
03:26¡I am nervous!
03:29¡Are we using other people's clothes?
03:32¡Please step up and claim one!
03:36¡Open them up and take a look!
03:38¡I'm nervous for them!
03:40¡Oh my God!
03:41¡Denim!
03:42¡Bing in!
03:43¡Yes!
03:44¡I'm very excited!
03:46¡I like working with denim because I'm the master of upcycling!
03:50¡I have my own design brand!
03:51¡It is called Obnoxious!
03:53¡Everything I do is denim!
03:54¡Everything!
03:56¡Denim is not the easiest material to work with!
03:59¡It's thick!
04:00¡It's bulky!
04:01¡So this is a challenge!
04:03¡Den-um!
04:03¡The Canadian tuxedo used to be a punchline, but now it's no joke!
04:10Fashion houses like Louis Vuitton and Chanel have elevated this iconic look,
04:14giving denim on denim its moment on the runway time and time again.
04:19For your first challenge, we want you to create a high-fashion, runway-ready, all-denim look.
04:26I'm her.
04:27And you'll find everything else you need in the workroom.
04:29Your model cards can be found inside your suitcases.
04:32This is a two-day challenge, and your one-shot to make a killer first impression.
04:38It's your chance to show me and the judges exactly who you are as a designer with a look that is authentically you.
04:45There's a lot of pressure to reflect my aesthetic out of denim.
04:49It's going to be really, really tough.
04:51All right, you have 30 minutes to sketch your ideas, and I'll meet you in the workroom later.
04:55And the next time I see you, it will be on the other runway.
04:58All right.
05:00Designers, your 30 minutes starts now.
05:03Woo, okay.
05:04Here you go.
05:07Thank you.
05:09Hello.
05:12This is going to be fun.
05:13Is your model a man or a woman?
05:15I believe they're non-binary.
05:16Okay, slay.
05:17I always try to design with the queer community in mind.
05:20I identify as non-binary as well.
05:23So for this challenge, I'm doing this whole gender-bendy moment with this pointed halter neck corset, dramatic hip peniers, and we might get a little sailor hat out of me.
05:32Do you work with denim a lot?
05:34Actually, yeah.
05:35My brand is a denim-based brand.
05:38I started my brand two years ago.
05:41It's called Maison Préfontaine.
05:43Each day of my life, I'm touching denim.
05:46So I'm thinking a maxi gown with a lot of colors to create a big ombre effect.
05:53I'm super confident.
05:54I'm terrified.
05:57I don't do menswear.
05:59Oh, my God.
06:01I have been a designer for 10 years.
06:04I'm a really big jacket designer.
06:08So I'm making a military jacket and some pants.
06:13I'm good at pants, but these are men's pants.
06:17It's so out of my comfort zone.
06:20You kill it.
06:21I feel like all my ideas are on this paper, and I need this taken away from me before I overthink.
06:27I think I'm set.
06:28Time's up.
06:29Let's go to the workroom.
06:32What did you pack for our trip?
06:34Denim!
06:36Let's get it.
06:40At stake for the winner, from TD, a career-launching investment of $100,000 and a feature in Elle Canada magazine.
06:48With global supermodel Coco Rocha, fashion designer Spencer Badu, creative director Aurora James, and legendary fashion journalist Jeannie Becker.
07:01This is Project Runway Canada.
07:03Watch me do my thing.
07:12Oh, my God.
07:13Oh, my God.
07:15Okay.
07:16It is hitting me that I'm on Project Runway Canada.
07:19Seeing the space, I'm like, oh, my God, I'm here.
07:22Where's my spot?
07:23Oh, I'm right there.
07:25Curtis, you're here.
07:26Are we table besties?
07:28This is going to be fun.
07:29Yes.
07:29I'm going through all of my denim right now.
07:36I'm kind of freaking out because I don't even know if I have enough to fit the model.
07:40Do you have a white that you're willing to give up?
07:42I kind of need the white.
07:44Ooh.
07:44Yeah.
07:44Do you have a gray?
07:45I'll take a gray.
07:46There's a giant risk with my design because I'm going to be shredding the denim, and I don't know if I'm going to finish it.
07:52Do you usually do, like, more gowns and stuff?
07:55Oh, no.
07:56I do a combination of everything.
07:57I actually love streetwear.
07:59I've done couture.
08:00I've done streetwear.
08:02So I'm making an asymmetrical ombre effect dress.
08:05It's going to go from black to white, and everything has to be perfect.
08:10Winning Project Runway Canada would be very validating in the Canadian fashion landscape.
08:16I want to win this whole thing.
08:17I just don't like what I have to do.
08:19Yeah.
08:19And it's just going to be a lot.
08:21How's it going?
08:21Um, I'm just adding colors.
08:23In my culture, they used to use the red eyebrows from the ptarmigans, and they would use it as trim at the bottom of our garments.
08:30So that's kind of my thinking behind this.
08:33So in the Western Arctic, our fashion is very influenced by the fur trade.
08:38Part of what I like to do is taking our traditional materials and using them in new ways.
08:45So I'm planning to make a cocktail dress that looks very high fashion.
08:49My dream is to do this full time, you know?
08:52I have five children.
08:54I want them to see that this is possible for someone from Dook Dooyuk Dook.
08:58I'm, like, proof that it's never too late to start chasing your dreams.
09:03You can definitely do it.
09:05Okay.
09:06I'm so a denim girl.
09:07I often wear denim on denim.
09:09I grew up on a farm, so this is my challenge.
09:12I'm thinking a slouchy jacket and a matching pant.
09:16I feel like it's going to have to be patchwork.
09:18Patchwork can come off really crafty if it's not perfectly executed.
09:22So I just have to make sure that it doesn't look like a DIY project.
09:25All right, let's start cutting open jeans.
09:30Hi, designers.
09:31Hi.
09:32Hi.
09:33So this is your very first challenge.
09:37I really want to see what you're up to.
09:43All right, Leland, how's it going?
09:45Oh, wow.
09:46Okay, we're going for it.
09:47Yeah.
09:47This design is definitely in my realm.
09:50I make costumes.
09:51I make costumes every day of my life.
09:54So I want to do more of a street wear meets Canadian tuxedo.
09:58And I'm adding a very oversized ruched pant and this deconstructed coat with this little corset.
10:05This is our first challenge.
10:07So I want to show technical skill and the camp and the fun of fashion.
10:11You can make something fun, but high fashion means it's also art.
10:15Yes, of course.
10:16So I pretty much started designing around two years ago.
10:20Self-thought?
10:21Yeah, self-thought.
10:22My aesthetic has a lot of punk rock vibe to it.
10:26You'll see me using vinyls, leather.
10:29So I want to create a two-piece garment for a rebel, like a good girl gone bad.
10:34Let's see how it goes.
10:35Hi, Naomi.
10:37Hey, girl.
10:38How's it going?
10:39I'm losing my mind.
10:40You are?
10:40Yeah.
10:41Why?
10:41I feel like I'm really in my head.
10:43I haven't even been graduated for a year yet from fashion school.
10:46Don't let that hold you back.
10:48I never graduated fashion school.
10:50Okay.
10:51I'm really excited to see what's going on.
10:53I have a little bolero moment.
10:55Okay.
10:56And a jellyfish denim skirt with lots of chunks of denim coming down.
11:00And I'm kind of debating the top.
11:03Which one's giving you the most high fashion?
11:06This one.
11:07The bra top?
11:09Yeah.
11:10Um, okay.
11:12Which one's giving you the most high fashion?
11:14I don't know.
11:15I feel like maybe it hasn't been drawn yet.
11:20I think you have to, like, pare it back a little bit.
11:23Maybe what I'm making isn't high fashion.
11:26Maybe I'm going in the wrong direction.
11:27I've wasted so much time.
11:29I don't know what I'm doing yet.
11:30And I don't even know where to start.
11:36What is yours?
11:38I'll show it to you, but you can't laugh.
11:39Okay.
11:40Oh, no.
11:42I'm hoping my designs don't look like my drawing.
11:45I wanted to bring a delicate twist to denim.
11:48So I'm making a flowy denim train dress.
11:51Denim's not giving me flowy.
11:53No, but it will give you a train.
11:55Okay.
11:56I think.
11:57Where is all this self-doubt coming from?
12:00Because I'm sure.
12:01Well, it sounds super high fashion to me.
12:03Yeah.
12:04That's what's most important.
12:07Ah.
12:08I'm bleeding.
12:09Oh, no.
12:09Are you okay?
12:10Just a little pin moment.
12:11Not great for my white fabric.
12:12I was very lucky to get these white jeans because I want to create the look of a classic tuxedo shirt.
12:19And I want to do a skirt.
12:22I think my design philosophy is a bit different because I am self-taught.
12:27I actually did a science degree.
12:30I wrote the MCAT and I applied to medical school.
12:32But I'm here to prove that I can do this.
12:39Okay.
12:39That's not right.
12:41Something didn't go according to plan here.
12:43I need to figure out what it is.
12:45With this design, I want it to look high fashion.
12:49So I am creating a strapless dress with a plunging peak neckline and a floral applique motif.
12:56My concern is that the judges might feel like I didn't push myself enough.
13:01Pushing yourself within this context isn't always about the most work.
13:07It's about the most beautifully executed vision.
13:12Mm-hmm.
13:13Okay.
13:15I'm impressed with some of what I'm seeing, but there's only an hour left tonight.
13:20Get on it.
13:22Awesome.
13:22Thank you, Aurora.
13:23Bye, Aurora.
13:25Okay, I'm going to go sew these and hope for the best.
13:28So fast.
13:30I love this machine.
13:32Okay, my jeans are done.
13:34Yeah.
13:36I'm looking around and I'm seeing other designers at the machine sewing already.
13:39And I'm a little bit nervous because I haven't started any of my actual sewing yet.
13:43There's no time for this, so I'm thinking maybe I'll just create a tunic dress.
13:48I'll probably have to utilize all of tomorrow to sew it together, so I'm just making fabric right now.
13:53Yo.
13:57Yeah, that looks good.
13:58I'm almost wondering if it needs the overpiece.
14:01Like, do I want to put more work for myself?
14:02Well, I think it needs it.
14:06I'm overwhelmed.
14:07Usually, this is something that would take me weeks to finish.
14:13Two days?
14:14I have a lot to do, and I'm hoping that I have enough time.
14:18This is hard.
14:21That's it for today.
14:23It's time to go home.
14:24Hell yeah.
14:33Good morning, sunshine.
14:36Let's do it.
14:37Straight to the machine.
14:38I know what I'm doing today.
14:41I'm doing the skirt as a short.
14:44Yesterday, I knew that I had to start from scratch, so now I need to go with what I think is high fashion.
14:52I'm trying to decide how much ass I want to show.
14:56This is looking so good.
14:58But I feel terrified that the biggest challenge in my life is going to be presented to Jeannie Becker.
15:11Hey, everyone.
15:13Hey.
15:15The models are going to be here soon.
15:18I'm not sweating.
15:18I'm not sweating at all.
15:21Hi, Curtis.
15:22Hello.
15:23How's it going?
15:24This is a panier in progress.
15:26I'm creating a whole universe with this look.
15:28I'm really inspired by historical silhouettes, like 17th century hip paniers, and bringing them into the modern fashion world.
15:34This is looking great.
15:36Just keep in mind, we want a chic first impression.
15:44Oh, I just ripped the f***.
15:46I'm seeing a nude body form.
15:49The models are going to be here soon.
15:52I feel like it's sewing time.
15:53Yes, it is.
15:54So I'm just kind of panicked.
15:58The individual pieces are all stitched up.
16:00Yes.
16:01I just have to put the bigger pieces together.
16:02I'll hopefully have something from the model to try on.
16:05I'm scared.
16:05First impressions sometimes can either make or break you.
16:10I hope that the judges can see my personal take on what elegant is.
16:16I'm just nervous.
16:17I don't have the time to do that.
16:22The corset is going to be good.
16:24I think my secret weapon is my speed.
16:29I've been doing this for so long that I don't second guess myself.
16:33Like, that's gorgeous.
16:35I am half Chinese, half Scottish, and my Chinese family immigrated here in the 50s and opened up a dry cleaner that is still there to this day.
16:43They're still working it.
16:44They have such a strong work ethic.
16:46So that's kind of always been instilled in me.
16:48Oh my God, so cool.
16:51That looks amazing.
16:53To be surrounded by such talented designers is intimidating.
17:00Ah!
17:00I feel like I'm going to throw up.
17:04I just don't think that it will work as, like, a short.
17:09I don't know what to do with my design.
17:10I have a million ideas going on in my head, but I have all of this beautiful patchwork denim.
17:16So I'm going to sew it together and I'll figure it out.
17:20I just need to trust the process.
17:26Hi, little feather.
17:27Hi.
17:28So what else are we doing here?
17:32We're making it deadly.
17:36Okay.
17:37Right now what I'm seeing is, like, a jacket that was a jacket that still looks like a jacket.
17:42And similarly the pant.
17:44I'm not really focused on the pants.
17:48The judges are going to be looking also at the pants.
17:50Yep.
17:51Because what I don't want is for them to look at this and be like,
17:54this is the jacket that they gave her and she only just added a collar.
17:58It's like, did she do anything?
18:00Then that means it's, like, factory ready in my eyes.
18:03Factory ready.
18:04Yes.
18:05We need runway ready.
18:06All right.
18:07Like, I missed it.
18:23I missed the boat, you know?
18:26I feel like she's correct.
18:33That's why it hurts so much.
18:35I just have no choice but to take deep breaths and remember why I'm here.
18:40It's for the runway.
18:42And it's like, wait a minute.
18:43You're on freaking Project Runway.
18:46And you've got to be ready for the runway.
18:49You okay?
18:51I am good.
18:52All good.
18:54The vision is coming to life.
18:56Oh my God.
18:57I know.
19:01Oh, I messed up.
19:04How?
19:05Wrong side?
19:06Yeah.
19:07When I was patching the train fabric together, I didn't flip it the other way.
19:12I made one skirt just facing one side, and it's not right.
19:16I'm just going to make a full round circle skirt instead of a train.
19:19Screw it.
19:19Oh, my goodness.
19:21I'll make it work.
19:24I think I need a model.
19:26All right.
19:27Come on in, models!
19:31Hey!
19:31Hey!
19:32Oh my goodness!
19:34Hello!
19:35Yes!
19:36I'm just adding the finishing stitches to the skirt, and then I want to fit you in quickly.
19:41Yes!
19:43Are you okay?
19:45You're surviving.
19:46You guys have 45 minutes.
19:49Make the most of it.
19:50The pressure is on.
19:51Good.
19:52I'm actually very impressed with how this fits you.
19:54Oh, yes!
19:56The dress looks amazing.
19:58It fits her like a glove.
20:00The fit is perfect, so now I just have to add the flowers in denim.
20:04How long is this going to take?
20:05A few hours.
20:06I just want you to be mindful of not having too many ideas.
20:13Focus on getting the dress really elegant.
20:17Mm-hmm.
20:18Yeah, it looks really cool.
20:19Do something with your arm.
20:21Yeah, there we go.
20:22Oh, wow.
20:22Yeah, it looks great.
20:23I'm super happy.
20:25My jacket is coming together.
20:28I love the pockets on the side.
20:30Now I have to put the grommets on the collar.
20:33I really love it.
20:34I love it.
20:35Oh, my God.
20:36This is so good.
20:38I'm so happy.
20:41I just worked so fast.
20:42You really don't have room to make mistakes here, and you have to take a gamble and hope
20:46it pays off.
20:47Oh, my God.
20:48I love it.
20:49Let me see from afar.
20:50Yes.
20:51My model is looking amazing in this outfit.
20:54I still have things to finish, but this isn't an introduction to me.
20:57It needs to look flawless, and I think I can do that.
21:00All right, let's get you changed off.
21:03Designers, the fitting is officially over.
21:06Models, I need you guys out.
21:08Goodbye.
21:09See you tomorrow.
21:10Bye.
21:12First runway show is tomorrow, so stay focused and get it done.
21:19Good night.
21:22Yeah, no, we've got work to do.
21:26It looks like it's almost there, but I still have to hand sew it.
21:29It's my first runway tomorrow, and I do not want to be the first one to go home.
21:33So I'm hoping tomorrow I have enough time to polish everything up.
21:38All righty, folks.
21:39Time to wrap it up.
21:41Brilliant day, guys.
21:49All right, let's get it.
21:50Let's go runway day!
21:53Let's get started.
21:57It's the first runway of the entire competition.
22:00I'm feeling very secure.
22:01I just need to press the out of this dress.
22:04I need to distress the out of the hem, so I feel like I'm in a really great spot.
22:08Hey, designers!
22:12It is your very first runway day.
22:17Yes!
22:17Let's get your models in here.
22:19Yes!
22:19Woo!
22:21Woo!
22:21Woo!
22:21Woo!
22:21Woo!
22:22Woo!
22:22Woo!
22:23Look how good they look from the front.
22:24Oh, great work, baby.
22:25We're going to eat up.
22:26Designers, you have 30 minutes for your final fittings.
22:30The model is here, and I am nowhere near ready.
22:40I have to use half of my fitting time to sew this denim floral applique.
22:46It took forever.
22:47Has this been on the model yet this morning?
22:48Not yet.
22:49I'm going to fit her now.
22:50I've got so much to do.
22:51The hem has to be done.
22:53Do you think I should leave it raw on?
22:54No.
22:55I would work on perfecting it.
22:57Even if the judges come close to it, we don't want them to be like, ah, it's a moment.
23:04I am not ready.
23:06Sorry, girl.
23:07Don't worry.
23:08You're stuck with this kind of designer.
23:10I still have the zipper to put together.
23:12I still have the hem to do.
23:14I'm nervous as hell because I don't have something finished.
23:17I took the zipper off to fix it.
23:19Wow.
23:20Okay.
23:20We've got to close it up, and we've got to get this chalk off.
23:22Because we're literally 10 minutes.
23:24Okay, get off.
23:25Get off, get off, get off.
23:26Hold on.
23:29Now turn to me.
23:30All right, designers, it's time to bring your models to the L'Oreal Paris Glam Room.
23:38So the whole idea is she's a good girl gone bad.
23:42So I mainly wanted a hair up.
23:47So for hair and makeup, I'm thinking we go 1920s glam.
23:50My staple product in my kit is the Panorama Mascara.
23:55It's going to fan out your lashes, giving you corner-to-corner volume.
23:59The eyes are going to look bigger and lifted.
24:03Let's go to the runway.
24:04Let's do this.
24:05It looks so good.
24:11All right, you're fraying the bottom.
24:12Yeah, I'm trying to.
24:14I feel like you're last minute trying to do something that you don't need to do.
24:19Last looks, everyone.
24:20Oh, just went right through.
24:23Okay, we're good.
24:25All right, designers, let's go.
24:27Promoto has a dress.
24:30I'm hoping that I'm at least safe.
24:33Let's get to the runway.
24:35Wish me luck.
24:35Hello, designers.
24:55Hi.
24:56Welcome to your first runway.
24:58Yeah.
25:00Tonight, first impressions are everything.
25:04Your challenge was to create a high-fashion, all-denim look that reflects your design DNA.
25:11We want to see your designer jeans.
25:15There are 12 of you now, but after tonight, only 11 will continue on in the competition.
25:23It's time to meet your judges.
25:26Fashion designer Spencer Badu.
25:29Hey, designers.
25:31Journalist and fashion television legend, the Jeannie Becker.
25:38Hey, everybody.
25:40Hi.
25:40Great to see you all.
25:42And our special guest judge.
25:44He's dressed Viola Davis, Michelle Obama, and Megan, Duchess of Sussex.
25:49Whoa.
25:49Please welcome designer Jason Wu.
25:52Hi, designers.
25:56We'll be scoring your designs as they come down the runway.
26:00Let's start the show.
26:04Wow.
26:05Yeah.
26:12It's so good.
26:13I have full body chills.
26:17The fit is fitting.
26:18The hat is sitting.
26:20This is a completely authentic expression of my experience as being a non-binary individual.
26:29I'm not used to making menswear at all, but this garment definitely represents my aesthetic,
26:34especially with the D-rings and the harnesses.
26:37It's so good, dude.
26:38Thank you.
26:40I've really honed in on what my style is, and that's just rock and roll.
26:43I'm super proud.
26:49This look is powerful.
26:51The collar is sharp.
26:53I feel like it all came together.
27:00I'm just so obsessed with my look.
27:03The ombre, the colors are working, the shape is working.
27:08It's a really proud moment.
27:10Anxiety is just through the roof.
27:18All I see is the imperfections, but the flow, the elegance.
27:23This is a definition of who I am as a designer.
27:27I just hope they see the beauty in what I made.
27:35Yes, mama.
27:37My look is elegant.
27:39It's timeless.
27:40It's sophisticated.
27:42But did I do enough?
27:45I have some doubts.
27:50Oh, yes.
27:52Yes.
27:53I am super proud of what I've created.
27:55This is very representative of who I am as a designer.
28:00With this look, I'm really trying to prove that I am one of the top competitors.
28:03It's amazing seeing my look come down the runway.
28:14This look screams Maya in every way.
28:17It plays with masculinity, femininity, historical references.
28:21I love it.
28:27I want to show the judges that my culture influences my fashion, but it can also be high fashion for the runway.
28:35The hood is a cultural design feature I learned from my great-grandmother.
28:41I hope they see something in my design.
28:48Oh.
28:49Oh.
28:50That corset looks so good on her.
28:53It's so snatched.
28:54It literally is hitting her in all the right places.
28:56Head-to-toe denim, Canadian tuxedo to the max.
29:09I have come so far with this design.
29:12I made multiple garments.
29:14I have come back from the trenches, and I produced something that I am proud of.
29:21My blood is draining from my body.
29:23I love it.
29:30I've never seen a look like this before.
29:32I painted with fabric, and I feel like I'm showing all of my technical skills that I've amassed through decades of fashion.
29:39How the f*** do that?
29:48It smells really good.
29:51Designers, please step up to the runway.
29:53Tonight, some of your looks spoke volumes, while others barely whispered.
30:06When I call your name, please step forward.
30:11Rome.
30:14Littlefeather.
30:16Charles.
30:19Cat.
30:20Dallarumic.
30:21Dallarumic.
30:22Dallarumic.
30:24And...
30:25Delaine.
30:29If I called your name, you are in, and can leave the runway.
30:34Congratulations.
30:34Dallarumic.
30:42Sorry.
30:45What a relief.
30:46Oh, goodness.
30:48That means the six of you make up the highest and the lowest scores.
30:53One of you will be our winner, and one of you will be out.
30:56So let's look at one of our faves of the night.
31:04Oh.
31:05Thank you, Lord.
31:06Oh, my God.
31:08Curtis, I got flight attendant vibes out of this.
31:11I was looking at a lot of denim, and it took me to a super masculine, tough, work wear type area, which then drew my mind to flip that completely on its head.
31:23This is an amazing representation of exactly what my designs are all about.
31:28Congratulations.
31:29I really love this.
31:31The structure, the style.
31:33This is truly couture-worthy, and you really did elevate denim to new heights.
31:40I couldn't even tell it was denim.
31:41This was a great piece.
31:43I think it really shows who you are as a designer.
31:45My only critique was the neckline at the back.
31:48It did feel a bit loose.
31:49I would just tighten that up.
31:50The hat looks good.
31:51A lot of times people ruin their looks.
31:53It's like that one accessory, you know?
31:55So I thought that was really nice, nicely done.
31:58Thank you, Curtis.
31:59Great job.
31:59And now let's see one of our least favorite looks of the night.
32:07The bottom.
32:08Foster, you brought flowers to the denim challenge.
32:11High fashion to me is simplicity and also timelessness.
32:16And I wanted to show the delicate side of denim by using a floral motif.
32:22I always appreciate the charm of a great applique, but I didn't understand why you decided to go for an unfinished hem.
32:31The top seems very, like, sophisticated, so detailed.
32:35And then at the bottom, that's an undone edge.
32:37I think it's just too many ideas in one dress.
32:40The biggest issue would be the fit.
32:42I just don't think it was flattering.
32:44Thank you, Foster.
32:45I don't know.
32:46I love his piece.
32:47Let's bring out another one of our favorite looks.
32:56Maya, you gave us a new romantic moment.
32:59Walk us through it.
33:00The Canadian tuxedo, to me, comes from that history of Canadian frontier and people needing really strong, durable materials to be able to survive.
33:08I wanted to bring that to the elevation of a night out.
33:12I want that jacket.
33:13I want the look.
33:14Let's put it on my body now.
33:16The jacket was really nice.
33:17I like the gusset.
33:18It is a nice way to bring softness into denim.
33:22My only critique is I don't think the bag was necessary.
33:25Did you make the bag?
33:26No, I did not make the bag.
33:27Sometimes when you design, you just kind of have to edit.
33:30But that, to me, gave this outfit another level of story.
33:35I think that's one of the biggest compliments an outfit can get.
33:39Thanks, Maya.
33:41This next look was one of our least favorites.
33:50Oh, no.
33:53Nemo, you kept this look pretty simple.
33:56It's an expression of myself, which is simplicity and elegance.
34:00And I also like flowy things.
34:03I just really felt that you weren't pushing it enough.
34:06What's new here?
34:08This is a look that I've seen a gazillion times.
34:12I'm all for a simple dress.
34:13But when you do simple, it has to be perfect.
34:16And this was not.
34:18The corset isn't as impeccable as some of your peers.
34:21Yeah, initially when I saw the look, it felt really safe.
34:24I didn't really feel like you came through in this dress.
34:26I would have loved to see a bit more risk-taking.
34:29You are subtle.
34:30You are quiet.
34:31So maybe this is you.
34:32Like, I do do more couture detailed work.
34:36Give me that, Nemo.
34:39Thank you, Nemo.
34:42And our final favorite look of the night.
34:46Yay!
34:49Leland, tell us how you brought so many elements together here.
34:52So one thing I really wanted to do was incorporate the light acid wash
34:56and really go for a fashion moment here.
35:00It made me giddy.
35:02I felt this was the Britney Spears Mad Max moment.
35:05Love, exactly.
35:05That deconstructive sort of cape, it looked quite gorgeous.
35:09When I saw it come down the runway, I noticed the shoes,
35:11and I was like, whoa, this is like a whole look.
35:13So for a first impression, I'm really excited to see what we have in store.
35:17Well, it's a wow, no question.
35:20The corset is perfection.
35:22One critique I would have is I think the pants are a little over-rushed,
35:26but it's hard to do messy, and I think you've done a really good job.
35:30Thank you, Leland.
35:33And our final lowest score.
35:37But she's a 10.
35:38She is a 10.
35:40Hi.
35:41So, Naomi, patchwork and a belarue.
35:44Interesting combo.
35:45Let's walk through it.
35:46I prototyped multiple things, and I wasted hours.
35:51And when I finally decided what I wanted to do,
35:54I didn't quite have the time to execute it the way I'd like to.
35:57To me, I see two different personalities here.
35:59I think the little bolero jacket shows some promise.
36:02The dress is where you fall short.
36:04I think this was maybe overly ambitious.
36:06And right now, I don't really know who you are as a designer.
36:10I think it just seemed a bit confusing.
36:13Maybe you have to develop your voice a bit more.
36:15I like the bolero.
36:16I thought that worked.
36:18A lot of the rest of the dress really fell apart,
36:20especially, you know, from the hip down.
36:23It just looked like a mess.
36:25The bottom part, it just didn't go with the top,
36:27and you've got to give me that storytelling.
36:31Thank you, Naomi.
36:32Thank you so much.
36:35Thank you, designers.
36:37You've given us a lot to think about.
36:39It's time for some tough decisions.
36:41You can leave the runway.
36:50Hello.
36:51Hi.
36:55Hi.
36:57Okay, judges, our top three.
36:59Leland, Curtis, and Maya.
37:02Who do we think should win?
37:03They're all so good and so promising.
37:05Leland's, it was really nice.
37:07I mean, the jacket, cape situation,
37:09I mean, that's really impeccably made,
37:11and the corset, very clean.
37:13Leland was impressive.
37:14Just the sheer amount of things that Leland pumped out,
37:17you can really see that he put everything on the table.
37:19Three different pieces that could live on their own,
37:22but they actually danced cohesively together.
37:25Maya, I loved this look.
37:28There was so much compelling storytelling.
37:31Loved it.
37:31I really understood the world that she was creating.
37:35I knew the character.
37:35Like, she really delivered in terms of putting an outfit
37:39that worked for the model.
37:41There's a point of view.
37:42But there's a point of view with Curtis as well.
37:44That was a shape that I kind of thought was fantastic.
37:47I mean, the silhouette, the craftsmanship.
37:49Stunning.
37:50Really well executed.
37:51Details were amazing.
37:52The little hat.
37:53It was meticulous and obviously crafted
37:55by someone who really knows what they're doing.
37:59Okay, I think we have our winner.
38:00Now, who do we think should be going home?
38:03Naimo, Foster, or Naomi?
38:06Let's start with Naimo.
38:08It really just looked like a black dress.
38:10Yeah.
38:10I didn't feel like there was a sense of innovation.
38:13I mean, if you're going to give me a black dress,
38:15it better be impeccable.
38:16Yeah.
38:16And it was not.
38:17It was messy.
38:18She's just the one that just seems to fall to the back.
38:22And I know it's not about attitude,
38:23but there is something about attitude.
38:25Well, there is.
38:25And you can see the attitude in Naomi's clothing.
38:29I like the bolero.
38:30I thought it was kind of cute.
38:31Yeah, the bolero was the best part.
38:32The best part.
38:33It was really a question of a lack of design sophistication.
38:39I think that's Naomi's problem.
38:42And I do think Foster already has that design sophistication.
38:46But, you know, like, that dress was terrible.
38:48It didn't fit.
38:49The flowers look very crafty, but not in a good way.
38:52In a good way.
38:52I don't know who he is as a designer looking at that dress.
38:55But I want to see a little bit more.
38:56The raw hem, I would have loved to see it, you know, cleaned.
39:00Maybe a bit of a blind hem or...
39:02Blind hem wasn't going to help that dress, let's face it.
39:04It looks like we made our decision.
39:09Curtis, Maya, and Leland.
39:20You've established yourselves as the ones you watch in this competition.
39:25But there can only be one winner.
39:29The winning designer is...
39:37Leland.
39:37Hey!
39:39I can't believe I won.
39:46Like, what?
39:48I'm happy that I really showcased myself and, like, my art.
39:51So good.
39:52Thank you.
39:53Oh, my God.
39:54That means, Curtis and Maya, you are also in.
39:57The three of you can leave the runway.
39:59Thank you all.
39:59Congratulations.
40:00We have a winner.
40:09That's so good.
40:10I'm so proud of you, honey.
40:10I told you.
40:14Namo, Foster, and Naomi, unfortunately, one of you will be out.
40:21Foster, you are in.
40:28You can leave the runway.
40:31Thank you so much.
40:32It all comes down to this.
40:38Naomi, you're all denim distressed us, and not in the right way.
40:51I'm sorry, but you are out.
40:53No, you deserve this.
40:59Namo, you're still in.
41:01You can leave the runway.
41:02Thank you.
41:03I'm just honestly glad to be here.
41:05I met amazing people.
41:06I'm very motivated, and I know I have a very bright future ahead of me.
41:10I agree.
41:11You're going to kill it.
41:12Thanks, guys.
41:13Oh, I love it.
41:16Don't kill it.
41:16Thank you.
41:17Take care.
41:17Bye.
41:18Wait, let me hit my pose.
41:19Yes.
41:20Go, queen.
41:21Love.
41:23Hmm.
41:24Uh-oh.
41:25Here she comes.
41:28It was so lovely to be amongst all of you.
41:30This experience would not have been the same without you.
41:34Hi, guys.
41:34Aurora.
41:36I'm really proud of you.
41:37Thank you.
41:38You have a lot of creativity.
41:39You have a lot of courage.
41:40Can I get a hug?
41:41Yes.
41:42Can we get a group hug?
41:43Yes.
41:45I think I've grown way more than I expected to grow.
41:49This experience was overwhelming, and I let my mind get the best of me.
41:55But this is just the beginning for me.
41:57Maybe I'll be back.
42:03Next time on Project Runway Canada, I'm pairing you up with content creator for your very first real client.
42:11Oh, my God.
42:12It's a client challenge.
42:14This week is about showing them what we got.
42:16Oh.
42:17I want to see lots of glamour tomorrow.
42:19At the end of the day, it's about keeping the client happy.
42:24I'm just, like, not seeing the vision here yet.
42:27It looks like something my mom would wear.
42:30So what are we going to do?
42:31We need a plan.
42:32I need to think.
42:33Let me think.
42:34Oh, my God.
42:41Let me think.
