00:00Why didn't the gods stop Thanos from snapping his fingers in Avengers Infinity War?
00:04After all, the gods draw their power from human belief.
00:07But when Thanos wiped out half of all life in the universe, he basically cut off their energy source.
00:11That snap didn't just affect people, it delayed the emergence of a new celestial by 5 years,
00:15which clearly goes against the interests of those cosmic entities.
00:18Even so, no god did anything.
00:20First, not all gods in the Marvel Universe are the same.
00:23At the top of the hierarchy are the Celestials and the Watchers,
00:25cosmic beings with absurd power, but who follow a strict non-interference policy.
00:29They only observe, they don't act.
00:31Below them are the pantheonic gods, like those from Greek or Norse mythology.
00:34They're powerful, but still just advanced beings tied to specific cultures or individual planets.
00:39And finally, we have the Egyptian gods, as seen in Moon Knight.
00:42Some of them can be overpowered even by heroes with technological armor, like Iron Man.
00:46In other words, not even the combined strength of these gods would be a match for Thanos with all 6 Infinity Stones.
00:51Maybe the real question isn't why the gods didn't stop Thanos,
00:53but why Thanos didn't simply double the universe's resources.
