Motsepe annonce la création d’une Ligue des nations et une CAN tous les 4 ans à partir de 2029

Avant le début de la CAN 2025 ce dimanche, le président de la CAF Patrice Motsepe a annoncé la création d’une Ligue des Nations africaines à partir de l’été 2029. Et par la même, il a annoncé que la CAN se déroulera à partir de ce moment-là tous les 4 ans.

00:00In 2027, we'll be going to Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

00:05The AFCON after that, as part of this restructuring of the global fixtures,

00:11of the global football calendar, will be in 2028.

00:16So we've opened a tender for all of those countries that had put in a bid for 2029.

00:22We said it's going to be in 2028.

00:24Because in 2029, after the FIFA Club World Cup in America, Canada, and Mexico,

00:35we will have the first African Nations League.

00:37You're going to have 54 nations, 54 member associations,

00:42participating in the African Nations League in the different regions.

00:49And then in November, there's going to be one country.

00:53And this country is where the winner, the champions of each of those regions

01:00will meet either in West Africa or East Africa or in North Africa.

01:06And as I said, more prize money, more competition, more resources, better infrastructure.

01:12So what's going to happen now is you'll have the equivalent of an AFCON every year.

01:16You'll have the best African players in the world participating and playing in African football

01:25at the highest level on the continent every year.

01:30We, in discussions with all our stakeholders and taking into account the global fixtures,

01:37the AFCON now will now take place once every four years.
