00:39your judges.
00:40She's the shiny star on the top of the tree.
00:44She's April Julian.
00:46Hi.
00:47I can't wait to unwrap your desserts.
00:50I swear I've been good this year.
00:53He's sugar, he's spice, and he'll tell you if it tastes nice.
00:57Chef Dwight Smith.
01:01Did one of you pick me for Secret Santa?
01:03Yes, that's me.
01:06And I'm your host and friendly giant elf, Dina Pugliese.
01:10Yeah.
01:12We've got two bold and buttery tasks for you today.
01:16First, the fast and frosty dessert dash.
01:20And the batter royale, where skill, innovation,
01:25and holiday spirit collide.
01:27The winners of the batter royale will be crowned our Bake Master

01:38from our friends at Instacart.
01:40Woo!
01:43For this dessert dash, we want you to...
01:46I've just gotten the sudden urge for cupcake art.
01:51Hey, there's all these cupcakes right here.
01:54Should we?
01:55Let's do it.
01:56Oh, let's do this.
01:58What are they going to make?
01:59Let's move this here.
02:00Yes.
02:01Love it.
02:02Love it.
02:03What are they making?
02:04In my room.
02:05One more here.
02:06Oh!
02:07Oh!
02:08Oh!
02:09Oh!
02:10Oh!
02:11For this dessert dash, we want you
02:12to release your inner artiste and create a pull-apart cupcake design
02:16that captures the joy and flavors of the holidays.
02:20Oh!
02:21Oh!
02:22Oh!
02:23Oh!
02:24Oh!
02:25Oh!
02:26Oh!
02:27Oh!
02:28Oh!
02:29Okay.
02:30All right.
02:31You will be judged on your creativity, execution, and taste.
02:35The winners of the dessert dash will earn a special surprise in your stockings.
02:40Ooh!
02:41We've got to win this.
02:42Dessert elves, you have 90 minutes to complete your pull-apart cupcake designs.
02:48Your time starts...
02:53Now!
02:54Go, go, go, go, go.
02:55Go, go, go!
02:56Let's go.
02:59Flavor first.
03:00Okay.
03:01We've got to pick something that's strong.
03:02Yeah.
03:03Something that kind of like jumps out at you.
03:05Rum and eggnog.
03:06The tree is up.
03:07We're going for rum and eggnog.
03:08Yeah.
03:09Hi, I'm Kevin.
03:10And I'm Christine.
03:11And we're pastry instructors.
03:12This is actually our first time baking together.
03:15We've been coming in and out of each other's classrooms, but we've never actually baked together.
03:19Oh, we're going big.
03:20We came to win.
03:21Don't be too sassy.
03:22We're going to do a snowflake.
03:24Yeah.
03:25Something big in the middle and then we come out from it.
03:27Kevin brings the big ideas and the enthusiasm.
03:31I'm here to play.
03:32Yeah.
03:33Okay.
03:34Rootmeg, meringue powder.
03:37Christine's so talented and knows so many things, so I run ideas by her all the time.
03:41Yeah.
03:42I teach chocolate and most recently classic desserts have been on the roster.
03:46You're going to see some stuff.
03:47We'll start with that.
03:48Got a little rum in there or what?
03:50Oh, yeah.
03:51We've got a nutmeg ramen eggnog cupcake.
03:54Oh, it smells like Christmas over here, Kevin.
03:57Does it?
03:58Yeah.
03:59Jingle bells, jingle bells, right?
04:00During this bake, I'm in charge of the cupcakes and Christine is going to be in charge of making the buttercream.
04:07Make sure it's nice and smooth.
04:08Okay.
04:09We're going in, chef.
04:10Okay.
04:11Awesome.
04:12There we go.
04:13We should do like a Christmas tree.
04:14I like that.
04:15Do you want to do pink?
04:16I think pink is good.
04:17Candyland.
04:18Christmas and candyland.
04:19Hi, my name is Simi.
04:20I'm a pastry chef and this is my friend, Daniella.
04:22Hi, I'm Daniella.
04:23I'm a pastry chef and this is my friend, Simi.
04:26We actually met in pastry school.
04:29From there, we've been inseparable.
04:31What should we do for the cupcakes?
04:32Chocolate.
04:33How do you feel about warmth than spices?
04:35Yeah.
04:36I have my own business called 12th Avenue Bakery.
04:38If she's baking stuff for her business, I come over and I'll taste test.
04:42Simi's bossy.
04:43You're bossy.
04:44I think you're bossy.
04:46Got you cocoa.
04:49We are going to do a chocolate cupcake with cardamom and fennel.
04:54With my Indian background, I wanted to infuse the warmer spice.
04:57I do a fusion of Western and Indian together.
05:00This is the fennel.
05:01There's sugar.
05:02Don't forget it.
05:03I have multiple times forgotten to put the sugar in my chocolate cake.
05:07But I am not going to forget the sugar today.
05:09No, we will not.
05:10How's your cake coming, Simi?
05:12Good, good, good.
05:13The cupcakes need to get into the oven.
05:15They need to cool down before we can ice them.
05:17Cupcakes are ready for you.
05:18Cupcakes are ready?
05:19Okay.
05:20My grandma and mom, they knit sweaters all the time.
05:22Yeah, the same for my grandma.
05:23So let's go with an elegant Christmas grandma sweater.
05:26What do you think?
05:27Yeah, I think that's a good idea.
05:28Right?
05:29Yeah, vintage piping, right?
05:30Vintage piping.
05:31Hi, my name is Marcus.
05:32I'm Chloe.
05:33And we're professional pastry chefs.
05:35And now we're going to bring it home for the holidays.
05:37Yay!
05:38We can add ornaments too.
05:40Out of gum paste.
05:41Yes.
05:42Chloe actually started as my student.
05:44Two years ago, I asked Marcus to be my mentor.
05:47And it really brought us from coach mentor to being colleagues.
05:52I need ube.
05:53Perfect.
05:54Do you need coconut?
05:55Yes, coconut.
05:56The holidays are just one of my favorite seasons.
05:59It's the color.
06:01It's the festivity.
06:03Perfect.
06:04For the Dessert Dash, I'm baking coconut ube cupcakes.
06:09Oh, I love the smell of coconut.
06:12Inspired from a Filipino dish that's eaten during the Christmas holidays.
06:16And it's called putabungbong.
06:18Look at this color.
06:19It's so good.
06:21Ube is a purple yam that when it's cooked into a cupcake,
06:24it has almost like a vanilla coconut aromatic flavor to it.
06:28Cupcakes are going in the oven, okay?
06:29Oh, sounds good.
06:31And Chloe starts on the buttercream frosting.
06:34Let's use a little bit of brown sugar in the meringue.
06:37Okay.
06:38And let's torch it.
06:39Okay, judges, so for this Dessert Dash,
06:41we're asking the bakers for a pull-apart cupcake design.
06:44Mmm.
06:45What does that even mean, April?
06:46It's individual cupcakes that are decorated,
06:48but when you put them together, it forms a larger design.
06:52What are you looking for in terms of flavor
06:54and incorporating the festive season?
06:56I want to see the bakers bringing some of their own culture into the mix.
06:59That's really important and it's authentic to them.
07:01I want to see that magic touch.
07:03Much like Santa, I think these elves, they're going to deliver.
07:09Perfect.
07:11How's the buttercream coming along?
07:13It's coming.
07:14We're just waiting for the eggs to warm up.
07:15You know what's going to go really good with this?
07:17What?
07:18I think we should add some white chocolate.
07:19You know what, guys?
07:20I'm feeling a little peckish.
07:21I'm going to order some snacks through the Instacart app.
07:23Can I get you anything?
07:25You know, I'll have whatever you're having.
07:26Okay.
07:27Same.
07:28I'm going to ask the bakers, too.
07:30Yeah.
07:31Sumi, Daniella, I'm putting an order in through Instacart.
07:33Can I get you anything?
07:34I think we could use some oranges right now.
07:35Put it in the buttercream.
07:36Some oranges would be good.
07:37Okay.
07:38Make sure that they're heavy and juicy.
07:40Heavy and juicy.
07:41Done.
07:42Thanks.
07:44Christine, Kevin, what would you like added to the apart?
07:48Some white chocolate, please.
07:49Done.
07:50Happy holidays.
07:51Marcus, Chloe, I'm ordering some things through Instacart.
07:52What can I get you?
07:53Anything?
07:54Cheddar cheese.
07:55Cheddar cheese.
07:56Cheddar makes it better.
07:59Why not cheddar cheese?
08:00Buddha bonbon has cheddar cheese in it.
08:03I'm not sure it's going to go well with brown sugar buttercream.
08:06Sweet and salty with the coconut.
08:07It really works well with the cheddar cheese.
08:09I'm not sure it's going to go well with brown sugar buttercream.
08:10Sweet and salty with the coconut.
08:12It really works well with the cheddar.
08:14You're going to trust me for this.
08:15I think you should add it.
08:16Okay.
08:17I trust you.
08:18Should we do it?
08:19Yeah.
08:20We do it.
08:21Hey!
08:22Thanks, Cam.
08:23You're going to save the day.
08:26Ooh.
08:27Oh, perfect timing.
08:29Awesome.
08:31Christine, look.
08:32Perfect.
08:33Awesome.
08:34Perfect.
08:36Our cheese.
08:37Thank you for delivering our holiday magic.
08:40It's just what we needed.
08:41That's what we needed.
08:42That's what we needed.
08:43The zest is going to taste so good in this.
08:47Try it.
08:48Ooh, I love zest.
08:50Brightness and flavor.
08:51It's good.
08:54I'm adding the cheese to the buttercream now.
08:56Oh, perfect.
08:57Marcus, do you want to taste it?
08:59I think it's good.
09:00Maybe a little bit more sweetness?
09:01I will add more ice and sugar.
09:02But the cheese?
09:03Yeah.
09:04Great.
09:05Yes.
09:06After I'm done with the buttercream, I boufforn to gum paste and ornament details.
09:12In Vietnam, Christmas is not our traditional holidays.
09:16But coming to my house for Christmas and holidays, you will see a lot of nice decorations.
09:22Good job.
09:25I think that's going to be nice.
09:27Bakers, we are halfway there, halfway through the challenge.
09:3045 minutes left on the clock.
09:33Ooh, okay.
09:35I might use a little bit of cold butter as well.
09:37Yes, it's great for what I needed, but for what you need, I think it's going to be...
09:40It's going to be too soft, eh?
09:42Woo!
09:43That's a hot buttercream.
09:44I'm worried about the buttercream.
09:46It's very delicate to temperature.
09:48If you're adding soft butter into a warmish meringue when you're making your buttercream,
09:52it will turn into a soup.
09:54That's not going to work.
09:55No, boy.
09:56Ooh.
10:04Woo!
10:05That's a hot buttercream.
10:06I'm worried about the buttercream.
10:08It's very delicate to temperature.
10:10If you're adding soft butter into a warmish meringue when you're making your buttercream,
10:14it will turn into a soup.
10:16Should we use a little bit of ice?
10:17So I grab some ice to make sure that I can get it to the consistency I need for piping.
10:23Give it a little ice bath.
10:25Temperature control with the ice pack.
10:27They're giving.
10:28I know what I'm doing.
10:29Mm-hmm.
10:30Let's see what happens.
10:31There we go.
10:32All right.
10:33We have buttercream.
10:3530 minutes left on the clock.
10:37You've got this, Bakers.
10:38Okay.
10:39I think I'm happy with that.
10:40Hot cupcakes.
10:41Ooh, cupcakes are coming out.
10:43How are they looking?
10:44I don't know.
10:45What do you think?
10:46I think they're good.
10:47They're good, yeah.
10:48They look nice.
10:49They're ready.
10:50The cupcakes are baked perfectly.
10:51The buttercream's made.
10:52We can do some star tips, some French tips.
10:54Yeah.
10:55For the traditional Christmas colours, we're doing a lot of pastels in pink tones.
11:00Oh, this looks so good.
11:02Look at you go.
11:03Little candy elf.
11:04It's going to look so cute.
11:05I think it's just adorable.
11:07I'm going to start arranging the cupcakes into that sweater shape.
11:13Okay.
11:14Fine, detailed work is definitely something that I love to do.
11:21To really pay homage to my grandmother's long time knitting of patterns, we want to do that with handmade piping techniques.
11:30It's coming together, actually.
11:34Yeah, right?
11:35Are the cupcakes cool enough?
11:38Yeah.
11:39The precision on these two.
11:40Yeah.
11:41They're making sure things are exactly right.
11:43I love that.
11:44How's that?
11:45With the flower right on there.
11:47Yeah.
11:48It's going to go dead centre.
11:49There's one.
11:51I think we should fill the dark blue in the centre.
11:53Yeah, come out here.
11:54Yeah.
11:55And then here and here.
11:56I hope the judges notice the detail in the snowflake.
12:00What do you think, chef?
12:01I think I'm going to...
12:02Oh, yeah.
12:03Here we go.
12:04Ten minutes, bakers!
12:06Final stretch!
12:07Let's go.
12:08Let's go.
12:09Okay, we got this.
12:10I like it.
12:13I'm liking it, Chloe.
12:14I'm liking it.
12:15I know.
12:16Time is flying.
12:17I have to pipe buttercream flowers on the sweater with intricate, like, petals.
12:23Let's do this.
12:24It's coming together, actually.
12:25Yeah.
12:26Right?
12:27Everything's looking so good, chef.
12:29I know.
12:30I know.
12:31We've got fierce competition here.
12:32One minute left!
12:33Makers!
12:34Make every second count.
12:36Jeff, this break goes off.
12:38Yes!
12:39It's almost there.
12:40Almost there.
12:41Almost there.
12:45I think I got magic right here.
12:46You got magic?
12:47I got magic.
12:48Christine's pulling the sugar.
12:49We're making magic over here.
12:50Oh, too, magic.
12:51Like that?
12:52This part.
12:53Give this a little bit of a bounce.
12:54Don't do that.
12:55There you go.
12:56Oh, don't do that.
12:57They're moving.
12:58They're moving.
12:59Why are you moving, though?
13:00Get the luster dust on.
13:01Sparkle.
13:02My favorite part.
13:03Do it higher.
13:04Higher.
13:05Higher.
13:06Higher.
13:07Yeah.
13:08Four.
13:09Three.
13:10Two.
13:11One.
13:12Can't drop.
13:13You're sweating.
13:14Oh, my God.
13:15I think it went well.
13:16It looked sharp, nice and modern.
13:17That looks awesome.
13:18Yeah.
13:19It looked good job.
13:20I think our design is going to stand up.
13:21Oh, we did it.
13:22We did it.
13:23Don't worry.
13:24That sweater is sparkling from a mile away.
13:27I'm happy.
13:28Yeah.
13:29We did it, Mama.
13:30I'm really happy and really relieved.
13:32I'm proud of you.
13:33You did it.
13:34I did it.
13:35It looks really good.
13:36Good job.
13:37Yay.
13:38Yay.
13:39Daniella and Simi, for this dessert dash,
13:41we asked for a festive pull-apart cupcake design.
13:44Tell us about this beautiful creation you made.
13:48So we made a candy world Christmas tree pull-apart cupcake,
13:53and we hope you enjoy.
13:54Your piping work is phenomenal.
13:56I love that you have the traditional rosettes on top
13:59of the cupcakes, but then you've layered scrolls and shells,
14:03precisely placed with a monochromatic color scheme.
14:07Everything has come together in a very cohesive, clear design.
14:11I just love the way this looks.
14:13It's really giving holiday, festive.
14:15It's exactly what we asked for.
14:18Perfect. Thank you.
14:19Dive in.
14:21For our cake, we used cardamom fennel
14:23and chocolate.
14:24Our buttercream has lots of orange.
14:26Cheers.
14:32Bakers, the cardamom really comes through
14:35as a really nice, bright flavor,
14:37but I just didn't get the fennel.
14:39Mm-hmm.
14:40Orange is really hard to make a pungent flavor in a buttercream,
14:44and that is the first thing I tasted.
14:46The sponge itself had just the right amount of sweetness,
14:48and the buttercream was a perfect balance and match to that.
14:51Really, really well done.
14:53Needless to say, what you created is quite the treat.
14:57Thank you. Thank you.
14:58Thank you so much.
14:59It feels really good to hear that.
15:02I was like, we did it. We did it.
15:04Christine and Kevin, I'm telling you,
15:06this snowflake is leaving me feeling anything but cold and frosty.
15:10We decided to go with a holiday snowflake
15:12because as soon as that snow flies,
15:14you know that the holidays are around the corner.
15:17It's so beautifully symmetrical as snowflakes are.
15:20And, of course, the piping work,
15:22this gorgeous sort of dahlia in the middle,
15:24which is so hard to do.
15:26I think it's unbelievable work.
15:28The pulled sugar, the different sizes of cupcakes.
15:32It's almost too pretty to eat, but we do have to eat.
15:35Our flavor is nutmeg rum and eggnog.
15:40And a white chocolate rum buttercream.
15:42Delicious.
15:46The nutmeg was not overpowering.
15:48Such a nice, warming spice.
15:51It really sort of gives you a warm hug inside.
15:54The only flavor that you mentioned that I'm not getting
15:57is the rum.
15:58Oh.
15:59Maybe it's my Jamaican background and, you know,
16:01we like our rum, but regardless, it's delicious.
16:04Thank you. Thank you.
16:05The texture was really nice here.
16:06A really nice, moist, soft sponge.
16:08Did you get a little more than I did?
16:12Christine and Kevin, thank you so much.
16:13Thank you. Thank you so much.
16:14Thank you very much.
16:15I'm thinking we got a real good shot at this.
16:17I'm feeling pretty good about it.
16:19Yeah.
16:20Marcus and Chloe, the judges wanted to see
16:22a pull apart cupcake design.
16:24Tell us a little bit about it.
16:25We made grandma's sweater.
16:27My grandmother used to spend hours to knit sweater first.
16:32It's like tribute to all the love and care
16:35that went into handmade gifts.
16:38This is honestly a Christmas sweater I would love to wear.
16:42You've given us basket weave to mimic the knitting.
16:45All the shimmer and shine.
16:47Three beautiful poinsettias.
16:49The piping is phenomenal.
16:51You added cheddar to add the sort of fuzzy cuffs,
16:54which is a stroke of genius.
16:55Exactly.
16:56If I didn't know the challenge was pull apart cupcakes,
16:58I might not even know there's cupcakes under there.
17:00It does look like one solid cake.
17:03Well done.
17:04Thank you. Thank you.
17:05Have at it.
17:06I want lots of cheddar on mine.
17:08In the Filipino culture, we have a dessert called putupungbong,
17:11and it's eaten during the Christmas holiday.
17:14So we took that inspiration with coconut ube cupcakes
17:17with cheddar cheese and brown sugar, buttercream frosting.
17:21The first thing I taste is the coconut, and then right away the cheddar.
17:30It's such a delicious sort of salty balance against all this sweet.
17:34I loved it.
17:36The only thing I will say is I didn't taste very much ube in this sponge.
17:40Otherwise, so delicious.
17:42I am well aware of the color of ube, but this is so deep purple that it even surprised me.
17:50Great flavors.
17:51I really enjoyed the cheddar.
17:53This was an absolutely delicious cupcake.
17:56Thank you so much, Marcus and Chloe.
17:59We got so many good feedback, so now what we all have to do is wait.
18:03Judges, I could talk ube with you all day, but alas, the time is here.
18:07You have a very delicious but difficult decision to make.
18:10Thank you, bakers.
18:11We asked you to create cupcake art worthy of the North Pole's finest critics.
18:23And while all of your pull-apart cupcakes brought us comfort and joy, only one team's design will hang in Santa's studio.
18:32Congratulations.
18:36Marcus and Chloe!
18:38Congratulations, Marcus and Chloe.
18:39As the winners of the Dessert Dash, you have won a very special stocking stuffer.
18:58Thank you so much.
18:59I love ketchup.
19:05We won!
19:06Everything turns out like what we planned.
19:08This money's great.
19:09It'll only help find more of our passion for baking.
19:14Bakers, I have a confession to make.
19:17I, Dina Pugliese, am obsessed with the holidays!
19:22Oh, Dina.
19:23Don't look at me like that, Dwight.
19:24I think about those twinkly lights and the candy canes all year.
19:30Aw.
19:31And my favourite part of it all is sending out our yearly photo.
19:37Drum roll, please.
19:43Oh, my God.
19:46Oh, wow.
19:49That's a good one.
19:54It's so beautiful.
19:57For this batter royale, we've made a challenge just for you.
20:01Bake an edible card, festive and true.
20:05One cookie flavour and some sweet decor with a message inspired by holiday lore.
20:11Season's eatings, Dee, April and Dwighty Claus.
20:16Dina, you're a poet.
20:17You're a poet.
20:21With these cards, you better go big or go ho, ho, home.
20:27Bakers, your edible cards will be judged on creativity, execution and, you guessed it, taste.
20:35Cookie crew, you have two and a half hours to create giant edible greeting cards so tasty you won't want to mail them out.
20:44Ready, set, battle!
20:49Battle!
20:50All right.
20:52I like the idea of the message being on an old paper scroll.
20:57And I think the list should be the naughty or nice list.
21:00Growing up, when it gets close to Christmas time, you're always making sure that you're trying to be on the nice list.
21:07Santa's watching.
21:09My drawings are amazing.
21:10We're really happy for Marcus and Chloe, and I think they did a great job, but now it's just motivated us to really bring her A game.
21:15Marzipan, burn it.
21:17Oh, old school.
21:18It's got to be clean.
21:19It's got to be neat.
21:20Corn syrup, orange extract.
21:23And it's got to taste really, really good.
21:25How's it going over there, all right?
21:26Good.
21:27Yeah, how you doing?
21:28Good, good, good.
21:29I got the royal icing going.
21:30Okay, dough's getting made.
21:32We're making an orange cookie with some orange royal icing.
21:35I got to put the orange in here.
21:37Growing up, Kevin and I both received oranges in our stockings.
21:41It was something that was really special, so that's the flavor that we're going with.
21:44I hope the judges aren't wearing socks, because I'm going to knock their socks right off.
21:51What if we did, like, an advent calendar and addressed it to the judges?
21:55Yeah, let's do that.
21:56I think that's a good idea.
21:57We're going to put numbers onto every little cookie to make it an advent calendar.
22:01Now there's 24.
22:02Yeah.
22:03It's a challenge with 24 cookies.
22:05It's a lot of work.
22:07It's going to be a lot.
22:08I think we can do it.
22:09Yeah?
22:10Yeah.
22:11We can do it.
22:12Simi's going to make the batter, and we'll portion out the dough and get it chilling as
22:15fast as possible.
22:17My family likes to make these almond amaretti cookies.
22:20Ooh.
22:21Let's do amaretto in this.
22:22I think that would be really good.
22:23Yeah, that would be really good.
22:24We're going to be doing almond cranberry cookies, and then adding a bit of amaretto just to give
22:30a bit of body that are dipped in vanilla royal icing.
22:34Ooh, yeah.
22:35I can smell the amaretto.
22:36It smells so good.
22:37We're also going to have the meringues going because those do take a long time to bake
22:40in the oven, so we'll need to get those done really quickly.
22:43And she goes, you have a timer on the meringues?
22:46Yeah.
22:47During the holidays, what's the number thing you do with your family?
22:49The cookie cart is a scene of making and cooking and eating together.
22:55That's like make different gum paste mini dessert.
23:00When you come into my house for the holidays, you're expecting food for a thousand people.
23:05We love food.
23:08And then we can put the Merry Christmas of Filipino up here.
23:12Yeah.
23:13And then yours in Vietnamese down in the bottom.
23:15Right.
23:16I sat right away with royal icing because I have to make and color like ten different colors.
23:22This orange smells so good, Chloe.
23:27So I get started in making sesame, clove, and orange cookies.
23:31And then we glaze it with chocolate.
23:34So those smell so good.
23:36I know, right?
23:37I get a lot of my Filipino influence of baking from my grandfather
23:42because he was really the one who told me to like wake up early in the morning to start grating those coconuts.
23:47I feel like I want to do coconut on this meringue.
23:49Yeah.
23:50Coconut is like a big thing in Vietnamese.
23:52We have coconut-like cream on almost all of the dessert.
23:55I'm going to pop the meringues in the oven, okay?
23:57Okay.
23:59Friends, you know what's better than my homemade holiday card?
24:02Homemade cookie cards?
24:04What a challenge.
24:05There's so many opportunities for these bakers to put their personality, their culture, their history into these cookies.
24:13I want to see that today and I want to hear it from them.
24:16You need to have something that has some structural integrity.
24:19It's a big surface to cover.
24:21Let's see how the cookie crumbles.
24:23Huh.
24:25The cookies are going to go in the oven.
24:26Okay.
24:28What do you and your family usually do during Christmas time?
24:31Bake cookies.
24:32Aw.
24:33That's so cute.
24:34Being with family, we always put up our Christmas tree every year.
24:37And since I'm the star of the show, I always get to put up the star.
24:41She's given me a lot of Christmas ornaments and I have them on my tree.
24:44That Christmas tree, that warmth is from you, is all cute little ornaments.
24:48Okay.
24:49Cookies are going to go in, Sam.
24:5012 minutes?
24:5112 minutes, yeah.
24:53Isn't that kind of dark?
24:54It's maybe too dark and more yellow.
24:57So we have lots to do on this card.
25:00There's so many details.
25:02I get painting our board with food colouring.
25:05They want it to be that warm colour to represent fireplace warm atmosphere.
25:10What do you think about that?
25:11Yeah, I think it's better.
25:12It's more like a ginger colour now.
25:13Oh yeah, it's coming better.
25:15Food colour on me.
25:18Yo, you're ready for it, huh?
25:19I'm doing this part and then I'll do the scroll right after.
25:22Okay.
25:23I think we're splitting the tasks about 50-50.
25:25Christine will do a little more of decorations.
25:27I'll do more of the baking.
25:28Kevin, this looks great.
25:29This marzipan is as paper.
25:31Oh yeah.
25:32Really nice colour.
25:33We're doing everything we can to impress the judges.
25:36Torch it up.
25:38I'm torching this marzipan to make it look like an ancient scroll.
25:42How's it looking?
25:43There we go.
25:44We want to put a lot of detail on there.
25:46Every single piece is going to take some time.
25:48What do you think, some icicles too?
25:50Oh yeah, that sounds good.
25:51Yeah.
25:52Drop some of those on there.
25:53Yeah.
25:54Get some extra meringue.
25:55Our board is finely dry and I can start piping a shell border around our card to represent
26:02that postcard type of vibe to it.
26:05Perfect.
26:06After that, I can start laying the cookies as the base for our table.
26:11Do you want to taste this?
26:12Of course.
26:13Beautiful texture and the taste, so good.
26:23Okay, we got to get this marzipan on here.
26:26Yeah?
26:27You think it's cool enough?
26:28I'm gonna go for it.
26:29Cool.
26:30One, two, three.
26:31Yeah, there you go.
26:33We went with the naughty and nice theme.
26:36I hope that the judges appreciate the sense of humor in the message.
26:41Here's to a season full of sweet treats and no judgment.
26:44Treats and no judgment.
26:45Judge.
26:46No judgment from the North Pole.
26:48Mm-hmm.
26:49Ho, ho, ho!
26:54Nice.
26:55Okay.
26:56Okay, Simi, you ready?
26:59This is drying.
27:00I have to get the background rolled onto the board.
27:04Do you think I could roll this onto the canvas?
27:06Is this enough or not?
27:08I think you do have enough.
27:09Just gotta spread it thin.
27:10We're running out of time.
27:11What if the fondant doesn't stick?
27:12The cookies could fall off the board.
27:14The real pressure is that it has to go right the first time.
27:17First time.
27:18Ooh.
27:19We can shift her.
27:22Maybe, maybe, you know what, let me roll it.
27:24I don't know if I can push it more.
27:27Oh, my God.
27:33Okay, Simi, you ready?
27:35This is drying.
27:36I have to get the background rolled onto the board.
27:40Ooh.
27:41Oh, no.
27:42But if the fondant doesn't stick,
27:43the cookies could fall off the board.
27:45Do you want to cut it and then put a slice?
27:47I guess that's what we're gonna have to do.
27:50The way I describe myself is, like, you know,
27:53like a duck on water.
27:55I'll be paddling away and busy.
27:56Simi's the duck that's upside down.
27:58Her legs are up, like, flying everywhere.
28:00She doesn't realize she can swim.
28:01She keeps me calm.
28:04We can do it.
28:05We can do it.
28:06We can do it.
28:08We can do it.
28:09Halfway through, bakers.
28:11Time flies when you're having fun.
28:13How's the cookies going?
28:14Got to decorate the cookies.
28:16We've got to get our vines going.
28:19We've got to get our piping.
28:21We've got to get our candy canes.
28:23We've got to get the balls.
28:24Quite a bit.
28:25It's amazing to see what we can do in a short period of time,
28:28what we can create.
28:29Oh, I love that color.
28:30Yeah, it came out nice.
28:31Yeah.
28:33Oh, my goodness, Daniella, these are adorable.
28:36Oh, look at that.
28:38We have our board covered, our cookies baked,
28:41and then we'll be moving on to the finer decorations,
28:44the fondant work, piping the details.
28:48Okay.
28:51What do you think?
28:52First one's done.
28:53Did I spell his name right?
28:54Dina April Dwight.
28:55To Dina, April, and Dwight.
28:56D-I-W-I-G-H-T.
28:58W-I-G-H-T.
28:59Beautiful.
29:00You're doing great.
29:01The meringues are done.
29:03Great.
29:04I'm melting the chocolate.
29:05You have all the royal icing.
29:06Yeah.
29:07So I think all we have left is the decorating.
29:10Okay.
29:11And then finally push to the writing.
29:13Yeah.
29:14Sure.
29:15The cookie cart is a scene of desserts.
29:19It's definitely bringing east to west
29:21and the fusion it has together.
29:23That's Vietnamese and Filipino desserts.
29:27And finally, Christmas tree.
29:29Christmas tree.
29:32Mace Pit Girls are, like, different sizes.
29:35What are your favorite memories when it comes to indulging in cookies over the holidays?
29:39I've started a new tradition with my daughter.
29:42And every year we make Christmas cookies.
29:45Some for us.
29:46And, of course, we have to leave some for Santa.
29:48What's Santa's favorite in your house?
29:50Chocolate chip.
29:51Can't go wrong.
29:52Classic.
29:53Can't go wrong with the chocolate chip.
29:54How about you, Dwight?
29:55Being from Toronto, we have such an international base.
29:57So it's kind of important to open our horizons.
30:00I love alfajores.
30:02You've got a little sandwich cookie with the dolce de leche.
30:05Growing up in an Italian household, it was all about the amaretti cookies, which is soft.
30:10It's got a little crunchy exterior and you taste that almond infusion.
30:13I love that.
30:14So what else do we have left to do, Daniella?
30:16We've got to finish decorating all the cookies.
30:18And then we need to start doing the gold, the sanding sugar.
30:23Okay.
30:24We got this.
30:25We got this.
30:26You've got to dip all those cookies.
30:27Let's get it together.
30:29We only need one snowflake.
30:31Do I need one?
30:32Just do one.
30:34And then get the candy canes.
30:36Yeah.
30:37Merry Bakers!
30:38You have 30 minutes left.
30:40Oh, my God.
30:42Unwrap the magic.
30:44One cookie at a time.
30:45Okay.
30:46It makes sense.
30:47I can spell.
30:48I am very stressed just looking at our time.
30:50We're doing an advent calendar.
30:52We're going to put numbers onto every little cookie.
30:55And then we'll get them on the board.
30:57From 1 to 24, there's a lot of ones and there's a lot of twos.
31:01And we only have two molds.
31:03Oh, my goodness.
31:05Did there have to be 24 days until Christmas?
31:08Yeah.
31:09Could Christmas be until 14 days?
31:11Chloe, there's like 22 minutes left.
31:14We really want to get our culture on the card.
31:17So I start to pie Merry Christmas in Vietnamese and Filipino.
31:23I'm going to start with the parole now.
31:25Yeah.
31:26Go ahead.
31:27So we have a Filipino cultural tradition that we do every year, which is lighting up our parole lantern.
31:32You can see all the beautiful lights and shapes.
31:35It really gives you that warm, festive spirit of the holidays.
31:38What are we doing?
31:39Just a bit stuck to the parchment.
31:41There we go.
31:42Okay.
31:43That's good.
31:45And don't forget snowflakes.
31:47Yeah.
31:48I'm just going to place everything.
31:50Are we going to have enough time?
31:52Will we be able to get the cookies on the board and have them sitting there not move when it's up?
31:57Okay.
31:58Let's do merengues.
31:59Ten minutes left, bakers.
32:00Ten minutes left.
32:01Okay.
32:02Ten minutes.
32:03Coming, coming.
32:04Almost there.
32:05Almost there.
32:06We are rushing.
32:07I have merengues to still put as a light on our card, and I am panicking a little.
32:13Merengue here.
32:14Yeah.
32:15That's the last one, right?
32:17Can you grab the gold dust?
32:19Yeah.
32:20What's that timer for?
32:21I don't know.
32:22Stop.
32:23Stop.
32:24Stop.
32:25Oh, there's a second timer.
32:29Whoops.
32:30We're almost there.
32:31Okay.
32:32Oh, my God.
32:37What are the candy cans?
32:38Three or two?
32:39Two.
32:40One minute.
32:41Woo!
32:42Get the sprinkles on there.
32:43Finish it up.
32:44Remember, your cards have to be standing.
32:47Gentle.
32:48You got to go the other way, Chef.
32:50We're hoping that these cookies are going to be dried enough.
32:53They're going to hold, and they're going to stand up without falling off.
32:57Okay.
32:58Oh, oh, oh.
32:59Oh, oh, oh.
33:00Front down.
33:01Careful.
33:02Back off.
33:03Back up, back out.
33:04Yeah.
33:05There we go.
33:06That looks good.
33:07Is it on?
33:08Yeah.
33:09It's on.
33:10Okay.
33:11Let's just finish it up.
33:12Nine, three, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one.
33:17I don't think we're missing anything, right?
33:18Hands out!
33:19She's open for business.
33:20Woo!
33:21Woo!
33:22You did it!
33:24Woo!
33:25I'm so glad it's done.
33:27Oh, my God.
33:29We did it, Chloe.
33:30We did it!
33:31We did it!
33:32We did it!
33:33We did it!
33:34Time's up, and I'm so proud.
33:35We've got every detail on the board.
33:37It looked exactly like how you're going to come into our house for Christmas.
33:42Happy holidays!
33:43Happy holidays!
33:44Good job, babe.
33:46It stands out as a different theme and as a different style.
33:49I definitely think we have a chance at winning.
33:51We did it.
33:52We did it.
33:53I'm pretty happy with it, with the way it came out.
33:56Yeah.
33:57I think we brought our A game, and we're just hoping for some good results.
34:00All the teams did a really good job.
34:02It's going to be pretty close.
34:03Bakers, we asked you to let your festive cheer flow from your hearts to your cookie cards.
34:16Kevin and Christine, tell us a little bit about this beautiful creation.
34:19We baked a bunch of beautiful holiday orange cookies.
34:22With some orange royal icing.
34:24They're decorated perfectly for the holidays.
34:26We've got our marzipan plaque with our saying on there, and we tied it all in with some icicles, some vines, and some beautiful leafs.
34:33Naughty or nice, Santa loves a little holiday mischief.
34:36Here's to a season full of sweet treats and no judgment from the North Pole.
34:43I couldn't help but notice the scroll and how it's got a little bit of a torch of some sort to it.
34:49It makes it look very realistic.
34:50That is marzipan, and the fun part is when we get to bring the torch out, and that's how you get that burnt look.
34:55Amazing.
34:56Such a joy to look at, and everywhere I look there's something else.
34:59The layers of your royal icing, I mean, to me, a holiday cookie has to have royal icing on it.
35:05Flooding, you've done some layered piping.
35:08It's just all so neat and tidy, and it speaks to the Virgo in my soul, and I love it so, so much.
35:16Are we ready to taste?
35:17Yes, please.
35:18Go for it, judges.
35:19All right.
35:20Snowflake it is.
35:21Let me cut this in half for you.
35:23Take another cookie.
35:24You want your own cookie?
35:25Yes, please.
35:26I see several cookies on that board.
35:27I'll have a pine cone.
35:29The orange flavor went into the cookie part.
35:33We used fresh orange zest and a bit of orange extract, orange oils.
35:37Mmm.
35:38These cookies are cooked perfectly.
35:43The flavor of the orange comes out right away.
35:47It's delicious.
35:48It's not overpowering.
35:49Soft all the way through.
35:50The edges aren't any different than the center, and I really appreciate that.
35:55What is the flavor of the meringue?
35:57Vanilla.
35:58Vanilla.
35:59If I could pick one thing, I would have said maybe, with your skill, to introduce one more
36:04flavor other than orange and vanilla.
36:06But with that being said, what you put on the canvas, chef's kiss.
36:13You promised orange flavor with the oil and the zest and then the extract.
36:18It all kind of hits you in different ways.
36:20Aren't you glad?
36:21Overall, a lovely holiday experience.
36:26Christine, Kevin, thank you.
36:28I think our cookies are really neat.
36:30I love the marzipan, which nobody does really anymore.
36:33And I think for sure we've got a shot.
36:36Simi and Daniella, tell us about this festive cookie card.
36:40So we thought, who better to send our greeting card than to you three?
36:44That's appreciated.
36:45We went for something that's a little bit different.
36:47We went with an advent calendar that has like a whimsical winter wonderland kind of feel.
36:52I think you're actually onto something.
36:54Wouldn't that be such a great tradition to pluck off a cookie every single day?
36:59I must commend you on your piping work with the letters.
37:02That's really hard to do and keep it neat and tidy.
37:06I am quite impressed.
37:07Okay, I'm going to dig in.
37:10Oh, I'm sorry.
37:12You got this.
37:13Yay.
37:14We did almond cranberry cookie with a little bit of amaretto.
37:18As an Italian, I know about all of those things.
37:21Cheers.
37:22Cheers.
37:23First impressions, really good.
37:32I love the flavor and that little bit of a chew that I was getting from these almond cookies.
37:38Delicious.
37:39That's a hard texture to achieve, so well done.
37:42For me, it's a little bit too much raw sugar on this.
37:45I actually love the crystals on top.
37:49There's crunch.
37:50There's chew.
37:51I certainly get the cranberry and the almond.
37:55The one thing that I did notice, and I was kind of worried about, the snowflake shape.
38:01Because it's so delicate and you have these points on the end, they tend to cook faster.
38:06So the tips were just a little bit overcooked.
38:09But I think you did a great job.
38:11You should be really proud.
38:13Simi, Daniella, thank you.
38:14It's beautiful work.
38:17They both really enjoyed the flavors.
38:18Our piece, it stands out as a different theme and as a different style.
38:22I definitely think there's a good chance of us to win.
38:25So who knows?
38:27Marcus and Chloe, tell us about this holiday cookie card.
38:30So we really wanted to pay homage to being together for the holidays,
38:34and what we did as families.
38:36A table filled with baked goods, foods.
38:39That's what we were really going for.
38:41When I look at your card, the first thing I see is the love.
38:47In the kitchen, around the holidays, as a chef, it's really about transferring that love
38:52to everybody that gets to taste the food.
38:54I can't wait to try it.
38:56It really reminds me of the kind of holiday celebrations I have with my family.
39:02It's exactly that.
39:03My billions of cousins eating a feast at the table.
39:08I see spring rolls.
39:09There's the puto bong bong.
39:11You even have raw cookie dough and then the cooked gingerbread.
39:14What a cute little detail to add.
39:16The Christmas lantern that's very popular in the Philippines.
39:19The string lights, it's all so reminiscent.
39:22It really just brings a smile to my face.
39:24Thank you so much.
39:26There we go.
39:27For the cookie dough, we do sesame cloves, orange flavor.
39:33We glaze it with chocolate.
39:35And then the flavor of the meringue is coconut.
39:43Marcus and Chloe, you nailed it.
39:45It's really good.
39:46Delicious.
39:47The cookie, good amount of chocolate on top.
39:49The orange, the sesame, the clove came through right away.
39:53I would have preferred a little bit more moisture.
39:56But with that being said, well done.
39:58It's like I was transported somewhere when I was eating this cookie.
40:02Spice floated over my tongue, which was so lovely.
40:06As far as the texture, it sort of breaks like a nice crispy cookie,
40:10which I think is fine.
40:12I don't actually mind that so much.
40:14I can sort of picture myself dipping this into some coffee or something.
40:18With the meringue, the flavors were muddy to me.
40:21I couldn't quite identify the coconut.
40:24That's really about all I can say.
40:26You should be really, really proud of yourselves.
40:28Thank you so much.
40:29Thank you so much.
40:30It means a lot.
40:31It feels so good knowing that they really liked the flavor of our cookies.
40:35They really appreciated all our attention to detail on the card.
40:39It really took all the hard work and made it so satisfying.
40:42It's going to be one tough cookie deciding.
40:44It's going to be a hard one.
40:51Bakers, we asked you for edible greeting cards worthy of Mrs. Claus's mantelpiece.
40:56And all of your cookie creations made us feel warm and cozy.
41:00Simi and Daniela, your advent calendar greeting card was as innovative as it was delicious.
41:08Though some of your cookies were a touch over baked, savoring your flavors brought the magic of the holidays to every bite.
41:15Kevin and Christine, your orange forward cookie card left us pining for more.
41:21With piping skills and precision that no one could scroll past, you truly impressed us.
41:27Our only critique was we wish you would have introduced another flavor.
41:32Marcus and Chloe, your cookie card made us feel like welcome guests into your holiday traditions.
41:41While we wish your meringue had a little more to offer, your Together for the Holidays inspired card was a gift of festive flavors.
41:49You all made merry greeting cards that brought joy to our world.
41:56But only one team signed, sealed, and delivered.
42:03The winners of the Battle Royale.
42:06The $10,000 grand prize from our friends at Instacart.
42:13And the big master battle champions are...
42:16Marcus and Chloe, congratulations!

42:42Brought our A game, and it was great experience overall.
42:43Lot of fun.
42:44Yeah.
42:45It was a good time.
42:46I think what we're gonna take away from this is that we...
42:47We've learned that we still worked together.
42:48Worked well together.
42:50And, that we still love each other, even when we face some challenges.
42:53Getting to do this as teammates instead of coach and mentee, it means a lot to us.
43:01I couldn't have asked for a better partner to compete with today.
43:04That's awesome.
43:05Congratulations.
43:06You guys are amazing.
43:08Thank you so much.
43:10Thank you so much.
43:11That's a wrap.
43:12We did it.
43:13Autographs, anyone?
43:14Oh, God, OK.
43:16Next time on Bake Master Battle, it's the ho-ho holidays.
43:20You'll be making four adorable edible cookie dough characters.
43:24We got this.
43:25They're going to be gorgeous.
43:27My heart is shaking.
43:28Come on.
43:29I'm having trouble getting these foxes covered.
43:32And we want you to bake us a sculpted cake
43:35dedicated to a holiday hero who deserves festive applause.
43:39Quickie, quickie, quickie.
43:40Ah!
43:43He's burning.
43:44Cake over.
