00:002004, off California's southern coast, air controllers aboard the U.S. Navy cruiser USS Princeton notice mysterious radar tracks suddenly appearing around the Santa Barbara Channel Islands.
00:15When they pick up a visual, the unidentified objects are behaving in a way that they've never seen before.
00:22The U.S. Navy reports seeing an object with flashing lights moving in a swerving pattern offshore, and there's actually a radar signature for this as well, which suggests it's a real object.
00:42My gosh! They're all going against the wind. The wind's 120 knots from the west.
00:49What do you want to think, dude?
00:50The airspace is very, very strictly controlled, and unless the aircraft can be identified and communication established, it can be very disturbing for a controller.
01:04Commander David Fravor and Lieutenant Commander Jim Slate are on a routine training mission with the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group.
01:12It is revealed that the USS Princeton has been tracking the mysterious aircraft for days.
01:20This object hadn't just suddenly appeared.
01:30It had been there for a considerable period of time, and it was observing these military ships.
01:38So, what exactly was going on?
01:42Oh, my gosh, dude. Wow! Look at the plane! Look at the plane!
01:47If an airplane was cruising around in the area that was unidentified, and they couldn't establish communication with the pilot,
01:54then they would scramble interceptors to go out and see, using the eyeballs, what they were dealing with.
02:01The two fighter jets head out to investigate.
02:04As they approach the area, all four naval aviators observe a 12-meter-long, tic-tac-shaped craft hovering and making erratic movements just above the surface of the ocean.
02:17After descending tens of thousands of feet in less than a second, the UFO reappears on radar 97 kilometers away and flying at unimaginably fast velocities before disappearing out of sight.
02:39Fravor would go on record to say he believes that what he saw that day was not from this world.
02:46The object shot away and reappeared 60 miles away in a split second. How was this even possible?
02:58From swarms of unidentified objects stalking military warships, to claims of large, possibly non-human skeletal remains.
03:07These recent encounters represent just a fraction of UFO lore that has been woven into California's history.
03:19With one of the highest numbers of reported UFO sightings of any U.S. state, the question remains, what could be drawing otherworldly visitors here?
03:30All over the world, repeat sightings of UFOs baffle researchers.
03:39UAP are in our airspace, but they are grossly underreported.
03:43A pattern begins to emerge.
03:45These sightings are not rare or isolated, they are routine.
03:47What is the meaning behind these hotspots?
03:50I can't go beyond what I've already stated publicly.
03:53The government is not prepared.
03:54Are we being mapped?
04:00When people think of California, they often picture ethereal mountains, breathtaking ocean vistas, and mystical deserts.
04:10Yet the Golden State also harbors an unsettling connection to the unexplained.
04:15There's no doubt that the state of California is rich in stories and accounts of paranormal experiences, of UFO sightings.
04:28And these are accounts corroborated by government officials, experts, and even scientists.
04:37It is one of the places on Earth that's really a hub for astronomical research.
04:40There are a number of universities there that are all looking to solve some of the greatest mysteries in outer space.
04:46And so today, a lot of really important research is being done there to try and understand our universe better.
04:51That area is sort of primed for people seeing weird things because it's California.
04:57Since 2001, there's been something like 15,000 UFO sightings.
05:02Among these hotspots is a picturesque island nestled in an archipelago located in the Gulf of Santa Catalina, known as Catalina Island.
05:17The Channel Islands is an island archipelago, which is located in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Southern California.
05:27This is really an idyllic, picture-perfect destination.
05:31You've got pristine beaches.
05:34You've got the beautiful flora and fauna and crystalline waters.
05:39But what you also have is a lot of UFO sightings.
05:45Catalina Island's history is rife with odd occurrences that some claim point to evidence of interstellar visitors to the region.
05:53The range of places where there have been UFO sightings in California is simply incredible.
06:01It includes the Mojave Desert, the city of Los Angeles.
06:07One amazing event in UFO history is, of course, the Battle of L.A., which takes place in 1942.
06:13A few hours before dawn, on February 25th, 1942, a truly inexplicable event is about to unfold.
06:25Famously dubbed the Battle of Los Angeles, the incident will endure as one of the most enigmatic chapters in the Golden State's history.
06:34What you have to remember is that the war was on, and the Japanese, with the bombing of Pearl Harbor, showed that they could reach further than you would expect because they weren't planning to come back.
06:46And with other things happening, the submarine that had recently been sighted in the area, there's a lot of concerns that the war was going to be brought to mainland U.S.
06:57So there was a heightened alert at the time.
07:00What we know is that a military radar spotted an object about 120 miles west of Los Angeles at 1.30 in the morning on February 25th, 1942.
07:14Fearing that this could signal an unexpected Japanese assault on the west coast of America, the U.S. Army puts its anti-aircraft batteries around the Los Angeles area on high alert.
07:29Just after 2 a.m., a citywide blackout is ordered.
07:33Shortly afterwards, the unidentified target simply vanishes from the radar.
07:38But that doesn't stop the ensuing chaos.
07:46Just after 3 a.m., several accounts from local residents report a large object over Santa Monica airspace, triggering an artillery bombardment as the military lights up the sky over Los Angeles.
07:59Somebody gives the signal to basically start firing, and they start firing their anti-aircraft weapons, guns just blazing away in the night.
08:10The military was shooting at something that they couldn't really see.
08:13They weren't sure that anything was there at all, really.
08:16You have to imagine that the city is experiencing this ear-splitting noise of bombardment by the U.S. military.
08:25But when the smoke clears, there's nothing there.
08:30Nothing's been brought down.
08:32Nothing is in the skies.
08:34There's no enemy.
08:35There's nothing at all.
08:37The story takes an even stranger turn when it's revealed by the authorities that there was perhaps never a threat at all, or at least not one of earthly origin.
08:48It becomes a mystery.
08:51People love mysteries.
08:52People love talking about mysteries and coming up with ideas behind it.
08:56And you get into this mass story that is written together by people that now has focused on maybe it was alien.
09:04It's not until 1947 that the modern era of UFOs kind of begins, and people start seeing flying saucers in the sky.
09:15And so it's years later when people actually connect the battle for L.A. to the UFO phenomenon.
09:21It's fascinating the way that interest in UFOs goes through cycles, peaks, and troughs for whatever reason.
09:30And undoubtedly in the Second World War, it was not primary interest.
09:34But if we fast forward to the 1950s, the 1970s, the 1990s, people are really focused and fixated on the extraterrestrial.
09:45And they begin to look at events not only in the present but in the past, wondering if the real reason for those events was intervention by forces from beyond planet Earth.
09:58Across the nation, research has found a consistent link between areas of military operation and public reports of UFOs.
10:09One popular theory to explain UFO sightings is to connect them to military bases and conflicts.
10:17Yes, a number of military bases in California, I believe it's around 30, 31 or 32, all services, Navy, Marines, Air Force.
10:28Although UFOlogists may be eager to jump to otherworldly explanations, the answer to some of these mysteries could reside not only within the confines of our planet, but even within U.S. borders.
10:44California has 32 military bases.
10:47This means there's going to be a lot of aircraft activity.
10:50And where you have a lot of military bases around, you have the potential for people to interpret new technologies as being UFOs.
11:00In the period before the announcement of the B-2 stealth bomber's existence comes to society, people are actually likely seeing this aircraft and interpreting it as a UFO because they don't have any context for how something in this shape and this color could possibly be man-made.
11:21While it is possible that some of these mysterious circumstances could be explained by the testing of new military technology, other possible theories involve the paranormal and the parascientific.
11:35It has been said that the sightings around these military sites are attributed to these otherworldly beings who are curious about the way we handle our conflicts.
11:48This has been floated as a theory for the Battle of Los Angeles.
11:51Aliens who could travel interstellar distances and survive space being knocked down by some 1942 anti-aircraft guns, if not having any wreckage there to show for it, it's hard to believe it was enemy action.
12:07What caused it?
12:09We won't know.
12:11A lot of the sightings tend to be around military activity.
12:15And one argument has always been that, well, that's because it's actually military activity and you're misrepresenting it.
12:20But some of the other arguments have been put out there is that the aliens are trying to see what capabilities we humans have.
12:28Almost 20 years after the Nimitz encounter with the so-called Tic-Tac UFO, the U.S. government still hasn't provided any explanation.
12:38Let's remember that these reports were coming from trained and experienced fighter pilots and therefore had to be taken a lot more seriously.
12:47Typically, a UFO sighting is made by civilians.
12:52This is very different because we have a number of highly trained professionals who are very used to seeing things in the sky.
12:59That's their job, frankly.
13:01And so to get this kind of very detailed report and physical evidence on radar and otherwise is very unusual.
13:09It just makes it all that much more credible.
13:12One thing that's remarkable about this sighting is that the government very clearly acknowledged that they don't know what this is.
13:19And that's very unusual.
13:20Governments, especially those with UFO investigation units, are very, very hesitant about admitting much of anything, but especially that they simply don't know what's going on.
13:32When the U.S. military went public about the Nimitz incident, they did acknowledge that there was no way that the craft involved that was making all these strange movements and going at great speed, great altitude, could have been something that the Soviet Union or China could have developed at that time.
13:53If this wasn't China, if this wasn't Russia, if this wasn't a U.S. military craft, then what could it have been?
14:05Doesn't leave many options.
14:07What are we talking about with the Nimitz incident?
14:11Very likely, very possibly, a UFO.
14:15In May of 2019, a team of scientists published a paper investigating several UFOs, including the Nimitz encounter.
14:31These sightings reported encounters with aircraft exhibiting impossible flight characteristics.
14:37The paper concluded that these high-profile sightings were down to either being false claims, errors, or from technology that was far more advanced than what we have on Earth.
14:52The authors of the paper suggested that the UFOs and technologies recorded could potentially be of interstellar origin.
15:00The Navy possesses some pretty impressive binoculars and telescopes to see objects at a great distance.
15:10If the Navy did the investigation, I'm kind of surprised that they didn't have a much more detailed explanation as to what exactly they were looking at.
15:21Since the Battle of Los Angeles and the Nimitz encounter, the Channel Islands have remained an area with a startling trend of UFO reports.
15:30In 2019, a further disturbing incident involving UFOs and U.S. warships prompted an investigation involving the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and FBI.
15:44With credible accounts like the Nimitz encounter on record, and countless anecdotal sightings in this UFO hotspot,
15:52The new reports of UFOs hovering and flying near Navy vessels in the Channel Islands were given high priority.
16:04The video footage from the 2019 sightings is a little unique.
16:08There's a couple different kinds.
16:09The first one is a little more conventional.
16:11It's an unidentified craft, of course, with lights on it that make certain movements that might fit in well with the UFO lore.
16:20But there's another video that I find more particularly interesting of some kind of spherical object that is in the air and then descends directly into the water.
16:30And it descends in a way that appears like it's not really trying to hide itself.
16:39Often UFOs are very hard to track, very hard to photograph and take video because of their erratic movements.
16:45But this doesn't quite do that.
16:47It descends pretty uniformly into the water.
16:50The 2019 incident involving the amphibious UFO sparked a sweeping, high-level probe into what was going on.
17:00Unlike the Tic Tac, it wasn't the speed of the craft which intrigued observers.
17:05But rather, its behavioral characteristics.
17:10This is really unusual.
17:12To have a radar signature, to move in an unusual manner, and to descend into the ocean and then not be detected thereafter.
17:19This isn't something that man-made things normally do.
17:23The drone speed at 45 miles an hour, absolutely.
17:27Modern drones can reach those speeds.
17:29As to the range of 100 miles, that is unusual.
17:33That's weird.
17:34If we have really slow-moving devices around military aircraft or even military installations,
17:42the first thing that comes to mind is that it's some type of surveillance.
17:46And, you know, when we think about what foreign bodies or even corporations will want to do,
17:53sometimes for nefarious reasons, sometimes for, you know, bona fide reasons,
17:59is to move aircraft very slow and map the surface of the earth or investigate what's going on at ground level.
18:08It has been posited that some of these unexplained encounters between military and unidentified flying objects could be directly hostile,
18:17rather than simply wayward or observational.
18:20One of the things that we don't always think about when we think about UFOs is that it may simply be foreign technology.
18:29So where we have a UFO, it may just be another country testing a device or even spying.
18:36What comes to my mind is the recent use of balloons by China flying over the US to capture images.
18:45So foreign players, whether they be countries or even corporations,
18:50may be developing and deploying devices that are intended to spy on people around the world.
18:57And some of these devices may be interpreted as being UFOs.
19:02There's no doubt that we can be a very warlike, aggressive, violent species.
19:08And for that reason alone, I think that extraterrestrials will be very interested in studying us,
19:15studying our damaged psyche, trying to work out what it is that makes us so murderous, so awful in certain periods of our history.
19:26About 290 kilometers inland from the Channel Islands lies the town of 29 Palms,
19:33a city in San Bernardino County, California,
19:36which serves as one of the entry points to Joshua Tree National Park and the Mojave Desert.
19:45The stories coming out of the town of 29 Palms are interesting,
19:48I think mostly because of its proximity to the infamous Site Area 51.
19:53And most people who know anything about the UFO literature will recognize that, of course,
19:58as a secret military installation and really the site of all kinds of strange stories,
20:06aliens of various kinds, all kinds of sightings,
20:09all kinds of things that are not explained by conventional phenomenon.
20:15April, 2021.
20:20A mass UFO sighting takes place over a military base in 29 Palms.
20:25More than 50 eyewitnesses observe the 10-minute event,
20:29describing a triangular formation of lights as high as a two-story house.
20:34It hovers over the US Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center for about nine minutes.
20:48But when Marines start firing flares at it,
20:51it disappears just before they get close enough to expose the mysterious craft.
20:56In April 2021, the UFO sighting at 29 Palms is remarkably similar to the 1997 incident in Phoenix.
21:12It looks very similar. It sounds very similar.
21:15The accounts are remarkably similar.
21:18Initially, the US Air Force explained the March 1997 Phoenix lights in Arizona
21:25as flares dropped during a military training exercise.
21:29However, skeptics argue that what they saw did not exhibit the behavior of typical flares.
21:36The sighting at 29 Palms elicits a similar response.
21:41Given that the craft seen at Phoenix in 97 and the one seen at 29 Palms in 2021
21:49seems to be the same craft,
21:51it does suggest that this is an alien craft
21:55that is returning over and over again to the same area
22:00in some kind of surveillance-related activity,
22:04that it's gathering data and information.
22:11When it comes to the vast open landscape of the Mojave Desert,
22:21UFO hotspots appear to extend far beyond the scope of military operations.
22:27Some 56 kilometers northeast of 29 Palms,
22:31in the early morning on February 21, 2000,
22:35a gargantuan boulder splits in two without warning.
22:39Before the incident, the aptly named Giant Rock weighed more than 25,000 tons,
22:45covered 540 square meters,
22:48and was estimated to have been formed some 65 to 136 million years ago.
22:55Really enigmatic structure, Giant Rock.
23:00It's a massive boulder, just unbelievably big.
23:04Dubbed the world's biggest rock,
23:07its claimed association with extraterrestrial activity draws hundreds of people to it every year.
23:13For centuries it's believed to have had some kind of spiritual significance,
23:19but it's something that New Agers in particular have latched onto,
23:24believing that it could be a confluence of ley lines or a vortex,
23:30and that it is emitting some kind of energy.
23:34About three miles away from Giant Rock,
23:37a peculiar white dome rises in the desert,
23:40reminiscent of an alien spaceship.
23:42It is called the Integratron.
23:45It was built to be a time machine that would heal and strengthen humans,
23:49and the story of how it came to be is deeply connected to Giant Rock.
23:54In 1947, an Ohio resident called George Van Tassel decides to go and live next to the Giant Rock.
24:05He's so enthusiastic about it.
24:07He's important to UFO lore for a few reasons.
24:11He's important to the development of the contactee movement,
24:15people who claim not just to see UFOs but to have some kind of contact with them,
24:20whether that was being taken up in the craft and being given secret knowledge
24:26or just having interactions with them on the ground.
24:29Five years after moving to Giant Rock in the early 1950s,
24:34Van Tassel publishes a book called I Wrote a Flying Saucer,
24:39where he describes meeting ten space creatures
24:42who transmitted knowledge to him via telepathy.
24:45He claims that while at Giant Rock, he has seen many alien craft and hitched a ride.
24:54Tassel's claim to fame really is that he was in contact with aliens from Venus,
25:01including an individual called Solganda,
25:04and these aliens were there to share their kind of spiritual knowledge
25:11and scientific knowledge with human beings.
25:13According to Van Tassel, his contact with these extraterrestrials
25:19led him to believe that he was instructed to build what he called a time machine,
25:26and he did so.
25:27He built a very strange-looking structure.
25:30It very much looks like a flying saucer of sorts.
25:33It's this very large white dome in the desert,
25:36and whether or not it works as a time machine,
25:38it certainly was a draw for people coming to hear from Van Tassel
25:42and to try to learn from him.
25:44Van Tassel claimed the machine's design came from a 17-page alien equation,
25:50but his research in creating his masterpiece is actually rooted in science,
25:55implementing ideas from the minds of Nikola Tesla and George Lakovsky.
26:00Van Tassel builds up a cult following because he talks about, you know, from his dreams,
26:06having engaged with aliens and then telling him how to build something,
26:09but the following is from other UFO believers.
26:13The Integraton is the only alien-designed building on Earth.
26:19And the purpose of the Integraton was, as Van Tassel mentions in his book,
26:25I Wrote a Flying Saucer, that through the use of electromagnetic waves
26:30and through electromagnetic radiation, cellular damage could be reversed.
26:35So it's a time machine in the sense that you can actually heal yourself from aging.
26:41That's the purpose of the Integraton.
26:43The Integraton's kind of interesting because it is this dome structure
26:47and that's not a typical construction methodology.
26:50We don't tend to build a lot of domes.
26:53It's also built without any metal,
26:55so it's basically doweled and glued together sections of wood.
27:00It's a very unusual structure, not only in its shape,
27:03but in its methodology of construction.
27:06At the Integraton, there is a geomagnetic anomaly,
27:10basically the Earth's magnetic field is different in this location.
27:14Potentially, if somebody had a sense for geomagnetic fields,
27:18it would feel different in that space.
27:20So when you take the potential for infrasound from the underground rivers,
27:24you take the potential for some geomagnetic anomaly that's sensed by people,
27:29it could definitely give the person a really unworldly feeling that they're really out of their normal element.
27:43Shortly after the giant rock split in two, in 2000,
27:47theories began to circulate about the possible cause and the significance of its geophysical location.
27:54One explanation for why the rock split in 2000
28:00could be some kind of seismic activity, an earthquake, basically,
28:05that the violence of which basically split the rock in two.
28:10There is another view that bonfires that have been set over the years,
28:15possibly even the centuries, around this giant rock,
28:18have over time generated enough heat to cause a fracture to appear all the way through it.
28:25Now, there's a lot of people who don't accept the idea that this huge rock split
28:30because of an earthquake or bonfires,
28:33and they believe that there is a far more credible reason for why it happened.
28:40California, which sits on the Ring of Fire,
28:43is no stranger to unpredictable tectonic activity.
28:47But whilst thoughts inevitably turn to the paranormal
28:50when tremors in the Earth's crust are paired with lights in the sky,
28:54could there be a more straightforward scientific explanation?
28:59August 24th, 2014.
29:04Newsrooms in Napa receive calls from people reporting strange flashes of light in the sky.
29:10A magnitude 6 earthquake hits that morning,
29:14injuring over 170 people and causing severe damage to infrastructure.
29:20While earthquakes aren't uncommon in a state living in constant fear of the big one,
29:25the mysterious lights seen in the sky were baffling to many.
29:29If earthquake lights are a thing, you would expect them in areas of higher geologic activity.
29:37When we talk about something like the Ring of Fire,
29:40which is the entire area of high geologic activity all the way around the Pacific Ocean.
29:47That is an area that has a lot of earthquakes, has a lot of volcanoes, has a lot of tectonic movement.
29:53So if you're going to see them, that's where you're going to see them.
29:56They have been dubbed earthquake lights, and scientists are still working on fully understanding them.
30:02Earthquake lights is definitely a phenomenon that people supposedly have observed.
30:09There may even be some video evidence of it.
30:14But it's one of those phenomena that are very rare and very difficult to study.
30:19While the Earth's surface in California is often rattled by seismic tremors,
30:25could delving deeper into its depths reveal clues about the origin stories of supposed interstellar visitors?
30:35Throughout the history of North America,
30:38legends have proliferated about abnormally large or even giant prehistoric humans.
30:45For a long time, people have believed that there were a race of giant humans in the past.
30:52And to support this, there have been bones discovered that seem to indicate the one-time existence of these giants on planet Earth.
31:03And that includes bones discovered in California.
31:07The theory that giants inhabited the Earth is a very popular and prevalent theory.
31:14Catalina Island is one of the places where people have tried to uncover evidence to support this idea that giants once walked the Earth.
31:24In the early 1900s, an archaeologist called Ralph Gliddens found the bones of a human being
31:33that was about seven to eight feet tall on Catalina Island.
31:38Gliddens went on to claim that there had once been a race of very tall, blonde and blue-eyed giants living on Catalina Island.
31:50The concept that links this evidence of giants to extraterrestrials is the hollow Earth theory,
31:58which takes believers deep beneath the Earth's surface to a supposed subterranean world concealed from our everyday reality.
32:10It is suggested by its proponents that the hollow Earth is home to advanced civilizations that have established hidden societies within our Earth's interior.
32:20The idea of the hollow Earth is basically that the surface of the Earth is not the only occupied area of the planet,
32:30that the inside of the Earth is not dense rock.
32:34It is hollow and there are ancient civilizations which inhabit the interior of this hollow Earth.
32:42This race that exists way down below the Earth under our feet is known as the Lemurians.
32:52There are different variations on the history of the Lemurians,
32:56but they lived on a kind of continent-sized land called Lemuria,
33:02which was destroyed in some kind of conflict.
33:05and then the Lemurians went underground.
33:09They went below the surface to protect themselves,
33:12possibly in the area of Mount Shasta.
33:16There have been journalists writing on this as recently as 2011,
33:20really pushing the idea that this could be real and merits further exploration.
33:26Although hollow Earthers believe that the majority of entry points into the underworld
33:31are located at the Earth's polar extremes.
33:35They claim that there are a multitude of alternate portals scattered across the globe.
33:40Catalina Island among them.
33:44These are people not without means.
33:46They have access to extraterrestrial intelligence,
33:50which provides them with all kinds of technology.
33:54So the UFOs that we see are not necessarily extraterrestrial.
33:58we are told they are ultra-terrestrial, which means from within the Earth.
34:09Tales of alien societies and international portals hidden deep beneath the Earth
34:14aren't limited to coastal California.
34:171,100 kilometers from the Channel Islands lies Mount Shasta,
34:24an imposing volcanic peak in Northern California,
34:28which has long stood as a beacon of mysticism and spiritual fascination.
34:34Revered by indigenous peoples for centuries,
34:37it has become a focal point for seekers of the supernatural and extraterrestrial.
34:42Mount Shasta is a stratovolcano, part of the Cascade Range,
34:49and it is something which is very striking.
34:52But it's also a place of high strangeness
34:55because it has so many stories and so much lore attached to it
35:00of people living in the mountains without contact with society,
35:04of lost treasure, of UFOs routinely being seen in the area.
35:11And it draws your attention and your focus toward it.
35:15Mount Shasta is a hotspot for alleged UFO sightings and activity.
35:21In 2008, five people witnessed what they described as a jellyfish-like craft,
35:27with what appears to be a fire raging inside of it,
35:31hovering silently over a nearby neighborhood.
35:36Lifelong resident Dick Carey told the Mount Shasta Herald,
35:40I really don't believe in flying saucers,
35:43but I do know that something weird is happening here.
35:47Mount Shasta is a kind of like a zoo of UFO phenomena.
35:53Every type of UFO has been seen there.
35:56The black triangles have been seen there.
35:59The burning orbs have been seen there.
36:02And also the flying saucers.
36:05Flying saucers are drawn to Mount Shasta.
36:08In February, 2020, a slew of well-documented reports came in of a strange object
36:17hovering over the potentially active 4,200-meter volcano peak.
36:23Experts were quick to jump on an explanation for this particular sighting.
36:28A lenticular cloud, they claimed, is often shaped like a lentil or a UFO,
36:33and have spawned UFO reports for decades.
36:36Might this then have been the apparition seen hovering above Shasta in early 2020?
36:43Lenticular clouds are formed as air moves over a solid object
36:49or moves between an area of high density and low density.
36:53You'll have air moving along towards a mountain,
36:57and it might be sitting just below 100% humidity.
37:01And when it hits a mountain, it's what we call orographic lift,
37:05and it instantly condenses, and then begins on the other side,
37:09it drops back down again.
37:11So you get a little wave.
37:12And what's really neat is you'll have the cloud form around the top of the mountain,
37:17but then if you go further downstream,
37:20you'll actually get more lenticular clouds downstream of the mountain.
37:25Lenticular clouds quite literally look like motherships.
37:29Like, when you see them, you go like, that's a UFO.
37:33That is absolutely a UFO because they'll quite often be round.
37:37The edges will be perfectly smooth.
37:40You'll sometimes have multiple layers of these perfectly smooth shelves,
37:45and this is not what people expect clouds to look like.
37:50While the explanation is straightforward for some,
37:54for others, nothing could dissuade them that what they'd seen
37:58was not from this earth.
38:00That the US Forest Service was forced to put out a statement
38:04denying its extraterrestrial origins.
38:07But many remain convinced that Mount Shasta is a portal to another dimension.
38:16Mount Shasta is seen as a kind of entry point to the Lemurian world,
38:22and they are down there possibly making contact over our heads
38:28with the extraterrestrial universe.
38:32The theories are rooted in part in the mountain's complex geology.
38:36Its lush forests conceal hidden caves and underground labyrinths,
38:41which some believe are inhabited by an ancient race of otherworldly beings.
38:46Mount Shasta is kind of interesting because it has these kind of shape-shifting properties.
38:51Basically, because of the natural elements and erosion of ice
38:56and movement of water and debris,
38:58the mountain actually changes appearance periodically.
39:02Basically, we've had erosion and loss of material on one side
39:06and a build-up of ice and snow and material and debris on the other side,
39:10which has given the visual impression that the entire mountain
39:14has shifted its position within the landscape itself.
39:18In 2009, a mysterious hole about 5 meters wide and 18 meters deep
39:25suddenly appeared out of nowhere on Mount Shasta's side.
39:30Despite its impressive size, the hole appears to have been dug out by hand overnight
39:36using a simple pulley system to remove the dirt.
39:39Of course, the natural question to ask if a hole just suddenly appears on the side of a mountain is,
39:45how did it get there? Unfortunately, nobody really knows.
39:48There are many theories, as there usually are with these kinds of things,
39:53but nobody has a clear answer to this.
39:55And it's strange given that it's a full 15 feet across, about 60 feet deep.
40:01It's a pretty sizable hole for really no explanation to give any credence to it.
40:07The tales surrounding Mount Shasta, including the existence of Lemurians in its hidden depths,
40:14exist largely within the realms of folklore and personal belief,
40:18rather than any established science.
40:20The idea is basically that, again, it comes back to Hollow Earth, right?
40:29That underneath Mount Shasta, one can gain access to the lost continent of Lemuria.
40:34Just as Atlantis is supposed to have been a civilization that is kind of lost,
40:39Lemuria is another civilization that is supposed to have also been lost,
40:43and Mount Shasta is the last, one of the last remaining doorways, entrances to the continent of Lemuria.
40:51In more extreme versions of the theory,
40:53Mount Shasta has been linked to the idea of a human-alien secret breeding program
41:02that is going on beneath Mount Shasta, deep underground.
41:08A mere 110 kilometers from Mount Shasta, a team of researchers is scouring the skies
41:15for scientific proof that humanity is not alone in the universe.
41:19The Allen Telescope Array is a group of telescopes that are being used to search for signals in outer space,
41:28and in particular for SETI, or the Search for Extraterrestrial Life.
41:33So much of the work that's being done by SETI is combing through copious amounts of data, radio signals,
41:40searching, for example, patterns in the data that could not possibly be produced by just random noise.
41:46And those patterns might indicate evidence of life.
41:50Space isn't quiet. Not in the radio.
41:53And so, as scientists from SETI listen to outer space,
41:58they are constantly collecting data and that data has noise.
42:02And so even if they see something, a blip, something that might look interesting,
42:06they have to keep listening because if intelligent life is producing it,
42:11we would expect to see it repeated over time.
42:13One of the most challenging things about this work is we don't know exactly what we're looking for.
42:18It's a bit like a needle in a haystack.
42:20While the primary objective of SETI is to search for signals from extraterrestrial intelligence,
42:28detecting any signs of interstellar activity of any kind would be of monumental significance.
42:37If alien life forms do exist and are indeed visiting the planet we call home,
42:43it's not only a question of why, but why now and why here?
42:49California, it turns out, may be a perfect place for aliens.
42:55There is enormous mineral wealth.
42:58There is, of course, a lot of military bases.
43:02And California is just generally a fascinating place.
43:06And if there's a part of the planet that aliens are going to be interested in,
43:10well, I suggest that California will be that place.
43:14Another thing that might draw a UFO or extraterrestrials to California in particular are nuclear power plants.
43:21There seems to be some relationship between UFO sightings and nuclear power plants.
43:26People have spotted these around them, especially around times of meltdown or disaster.
43:31I don't think it's actually that surprising that if UFOs are real,
43:34that they would be surveilling those sites.
43:36They would be gold mines for information, frankly, of how we think about ourselves
43:42and what we're trying to achieve with our nations or with the world in general,
43:46and especially the destructive capacity that we're capable of.
43:51I am skeptical of alien traffic that enters our atmosphere of any description unless they've discovered a new kind of physics.
44:01Entering our atmosphere is not an easy thing to do, and it would be noticed.
44:07To date, I think there's probably an explanation for any sighting that can't be explained either by the naked eye or by a physical identification.
44:17To date, SETI has not detected any confirmed examples of signals from extraterrestrial life.
44:24But given the sheer opportunities for life that exist out in the universe, even within our own Milky Way galaxy,
44:31I still feel like it's an incredibly important thing to keep listening.
44:35And I would not be surprised if potentially, even within my own lifetime, we do detect something.
44:41multitasking
44:47The vast majority has to be seen in my own lifetime.
44:51The vast majority has to be seen in the universe in the universe.
44:54There is no doubt about us what we've experienced with us,
44:56but ultimately we are trying to get into the universe.
44:58The vast majority of people are trying to acknowledge everything inside of us,
45:00and we can only look at us one thing to make something.
45:01The vast majority of us can see here in India at some point where we are looking at something.
