00:00The PM announced a couple of things today at Parliament House.
00:05He mentioned that there will be some Commonwealth funding
00:08for some of the life-saving clubs down at Bondi Beach,
00:11noting that some of the life-savers on that day, last Sunday,
00:15rushed to the aid of those who were injured in the attack.
00:18So he says that there will be more Commonwealth funding
00:20going to some of those life-saving clubs.
00:23We don't know how much yet, but he says that there are plans
00:27to issue more funding there.
00:28He also spoke about establishing a permanent memorial at Bondi Beach
00:33to honour those who lost their lives in last Sunday's terror attack.
00:38So that was a new element that's come out of today's press conference.
00:43The Prime Minister has been under lots of pressure over the past week
00:47from the opposition, but also some Jewish leaders who say
00:51that their calls for action to address rising anti-Semitism
00:56fell on deaf ears.
00:58He's been meeting with the National Security Committee
01:01multiple times this week, flying back and forth from Canberra and Sydney.
01:05He's just had his seventh meeting,
01:06so it's likely that we might hear further announcements ahead of Christmas.
01:11And he also resisted calls for a Royal Commission.
01:16He was asked about that at the press conference.
01:19We understand that New South Wales Premier Chris Minns is considering a Royal Commission.
01:23The Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, said that right now he's focused on taking immediate action.
01:29He didn't completely rule it out of, it was not totally off the table,
01:34but he didn't really throw his support behind those calls for a Royal Commission,
01:38which we know have been coming from the former Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg,
01:41as well as the opposition.
01:42Tomorrow there is going to be a day of reflection for Australians to come together
01:48and think about the horrors that unfolded on Sunday at Bondi Beach.
01:51There's going to be a minute of silence at 6.47 to honour those who lost their lives.
01:56Prime Minister Anthony Albanese spoke about the impact that the events of last Sunday have had on him.
02:01He also spoke about this at the press earlier today.
02:04Here he is.
02:05Flags will be flown at half March and Australians are asked to light a candle
02:10and put it in their front window and to observe a minute's silence at 6.47pm.
02:1960 seconds carved out from the noise of daily life,
02:26dedicated to 15 Australians who should be with us today.
02:38It will be a moment of pause to reflect and affirm that hatred and violence will never define us as Australians.
02:46That's the Prime Minister there speaking about this day of reflection
02:50and he did confirm that he will be attending tomorrow night's service as well.
02:56The government is also in talks with state and territory premiers and chief ministers,
03:01as well as Jewish community groups around establishing a national day of mourning
03:06to take place sometime in the new year.
03:08We'll see you again.
03:09So this is the north of the United Nations market.
03:13Let's jump off!
