03:11Yeah, that's what it is!
03:12Are you OK there?
03:13I just had a panic that my fly was down!
03:16I should have checked back there!
03:17The tie covers it!
03:18You would be done!
03:19No one's noticed!
03:20It's a warm welcome back to Paul, Jack and Jessie!
03:23A first time welcome to Michelle DeSward!
03:24I'm so glad you're here!
03:25Thank you!
03:26We first met on RuPaul's Drag Race,
03:28UK.
03:29You were a judge and the fandom, the people who love
03:32that show loved you!
03:34Did you feel all the kind of Drag Race love?
03:37I did.
03:38I did.
03:39I absolutely loved it.
03:40Also, I was like, I've trained my whole life for this panel.
03:46Do you know what I mean?
03:47I did not know.
03:48Really?
03:49That's the character I did.
03:50That's the character.
03:51It was the character I've seen.
03:52I know it's your character.
03:53I've seen it, you know.
03:54Yeah!
03:55He, he's was a character.
03:56This for this panel, you know, I mean I was like yes fashion comedy and judging
04:04And now are you gonna be okay on the couch tonight because
04:07Michelle as
04:09feelings for someone on the couch
04:22If you could just move out the way
04:26Oh
04:36Okay, I am a massive fan and like early on sorry guys
04:44Tenacious D is like the blueprint of if there was a score for my early 20s
04:48It would be it would be tenacious D. So thank you so much
04:52I feel I should apologize to Paul because Jesse Buckley also has a Jack Black thing what?
05:06I get it
05:08I have a Jack Black thing
05:11There's enough of me to go around
05:15No yours is very specific Jesse I like
05:18Say to myself more often than is reasonable tip it to the side cello. Oh, yeah from School of Rock
05:25It's a base. It's a base. Yes
05:27Oh, when do you get to say tip it to the side cello? I said unreasonably like there's no reason
05:36You know that you live like rent-free saying that in my head
05:40That is sweet that line. I remember that wasn't in the script
05:44George Draculius great record producer and also he was in charge of like the music on that movie
05:52He would hang out on the set in my trailer and he threw that to me
05:57He's like you should say on this next take you should say you play cello tip it to the side
06:03You know, it's a big
06:08Some of people's favorite line I'll tell George George if you're watching
06:15I feel like we should stop saying lovely things about Jack Black now
06:20No, I did just what she's take one sip of Kampari
06:29Tea and a Negroni a white tea and the Groni and
06:33And a regular water nice with a little bit of morphine drip
06:41Well definitely, let's go we'll start with our first big movie tonight Paul Rudd and Jack Black star in Anaconda
06:48It opens in cinemas on Boxing Day check this. Oh
06:53This is anaconda
06:55No longer have a snake for our snake movie
07:00We have to go out in the jungle
07:03And find another one
07:13What is that?
07:15Oh my
07:17My anaconda
07:18We're in the middle of the jungle and we are being hunted
07:21We are being hunted
07:23My anaconda
07:24Now we die
07:25My anaconda
07:26Now we die
07:27My anaconda
07:28It's okay you're safe I'm here
07:29My anaconda
07:30Holy
07:40It's scary, jump scares, big laughs, it's everything you want
07:44How did this?
07:45It's kind of amazing that no one's done this before an anaconda reboot
07:48How did this come about? How involved were either of you?
07:51Well there was the director of this movie made a movie before this called the unbearable weight of massive talent
07:58Which was with Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal and both Jack and I were huge fans of that movie
08:03And when this script kind of showed up it seemed to have similar DNA to that one
08:09In that it was just kind of a clever meta comedy a take on a reboot
08:14So I think I kind of worked on it a little bit with them developing it
08:18I was interested in doing it
08:21I was very excited that they would want to work with me
08:24And then I heard that Jack was maybe going to be involved
08:27And then it was just the most exciting day
08:30And then we got on the phone and talked about it
08:32And it's basically, it's two friends kind of coming together later in life
08:37Yeah, yeah, four friends
08:39Four, you're right
08:40Steve Zahn and Tandaway Newton
08:42And yeah, we're these four dumbbells who love each other
08:46And had great experiences in high school making little dumb films
08:50And we shared a love of the original anaconda
08:53And we decided to go remake this movie out in the jungle
08:56And then we get swept up in an actual anaconda nightmare
09:00But it's really funny and crazy
09:02I never read anything like it
09:04And I was mainly excited to work with this guy right here
09:07Because he makes me laugh so hard till I cry
09:09And I thought this is it
09:11And I told my manager
09:12I was like, I'll do it as long as Paul Rudd is in fact attached
09:17Because sometimes they'll pull a fast one
09:19They'll pull a switcheroo
09:20Tennessee switcheroo
09:21Yeah, no, Paul Rudd's in it
09:22And then you say, okay, I signed the thing
09:23And then they say, oh, Paul couldn't do it
09:25He had to do it
09:26No!
09:27So now it's supposed to be set in South America
09:30But you filmed in Australia, was it?
09:32Yeah
09:33Yeah
09:34Yeah, apparently that was the
09:36That wasn't our decision
09:37But we had a great experience in Australia
09:40Pretending to be in Brazil
09:42In the rainforest
09:43Yeah, the Gold Coast
09:46Nice
09:47And you were in real swamps
09:50Yeah, there was
09:51The first day
09:52The first day of shooting
09:54For me
09:55Was
09:56I don't know, it was a night shoot
09:57And we were in a swamp
09:58Selton Mello
09:59And I were in a swamp
10:00Up to our chest
10:01And it was terrifying
10:02It was really
10:03And they were trying to put us at ease
10:05And they said
10:06We had guys come out
10:07And they cleared out the swamp yesterday
10:09Like you can clear out a swamp
10:11And you were in there
10:12And they said
10:13You know there's things swimming around
10:15And even some of the crew said
10:16I can't believe you're going in there
10:18This is not
10:19I'm going to jump in here
10:20There was someone on the crew
10:21Who had a creepy crawly
10:22Stuck to their leg
10:24And you saved them
10:25I didn't
10:26It was a beetle
10:28And you knew what to do
10:29You were like
10:32Sheer panic
10:33You saved their life
10:34You're a life saver dude
10:35I mean
10:40It was a beetle with a horn on it
10:42It was a beetle that had a horn on it
10:44Yes, only found in the Australian act back
10:47But then
10:48This is weird
10:49What's your nuts off if you're not careful?
10:51No
10:52It was a nut biting beetle
10:54Because Michelle
10:55Before you got into comedy
10:57We'll talk about this later
10:58You were a model
11:00And didn't you have a beetle thing?
11:02Yeah
11:03Yeah
11:04Because they would just get you to do like
11:05Random things in modeling
11:06Where they were just sort of like
11:07You're lucky to be here
11:08We're going to do this shoot now
11:10And this is editorial
11:11It's high fashion
11:12So we're going to put these beetles on your face
11:14Stay very still
11:15And look gorgeous
11:19Try and look nice
11:20But if you've got a beetle on your face
11:21You're like
11:22You're like smile
11:24You're like
11:25Ahhhh
11:26Yeah, there's a lot of stuff like that
11:27And then I did another shoot
11:28Where um
11:29They were
11:30They wanted me to sit on like
11:31A
11:32Bit of wood
11:33And as I sat down on it
11:35It was in Texas
11:36And I was like
11:37Oh there's all these ants crawling on me
11:38But obviously from England
11:39I didn't realize there's ants that bite
11:41Do you know what I mean?
11:42Yeah
11:43What's the worst that can happen to you in this country?
11:45Pigeon shits on you or something
11:47So I sat there and I was like
11:48They're burning
11:49They're burning
11:50They're like
11:51Oh it's a fire ants nest
11:52And I was like
11:53They were like
11:54It's the last shot
11:55If you could just stay there
11:56And look gorgeous
11:57And they were like
11:58Yeah
11:59Yeah
12:00Fun times
12:01Fun times
12:02I don't know why you gave it up
12:03Er
12:04Jessie Buckley
12:05You grew up in the Irish countryside
12:06So you
12:07Are you good with animals?
12:08Erm
12:09I feel like
12:11Out of respect
12:12They
12:13You know
12:14I should leave them alone
12:15OK
12:16Not because I would do anything to them
12:18But they might do something to me
12:19Because they're animals
12:20That is true
12:21Well observed
12:22Er
12:25But have you ever
12:26Have you had a bad experience or something?
12:27Well actually
12:28My mum grew up in a bull farm
12:30What?
12:31Yeah
12:32And she had like
12:33Can I just say
12:34That seems problematic
12:36Why?
12:38Well
12:39You need more than bulls on your bull
12:40Oh
12:41But there are no pedigree bulls
12:42They
12:43I don't know
12:44It's like a gay cow bar
12:45You love it Chris
12:48Only bulls?
12:49I don't
12:50I don't
12:51Are they just bred bulls?
12:56Yeah
12:57They were like prize bulls
12:58So they'd bring them to shows
13:00And kind of wash them
13:01And brush their hair
13:02And show them around
13:04He's a gay cow bar
13:05Yeah
13:06Yeah
13:07But I remember once
13:11My grandfather
13:12Brought me out into the fields
13:14And put me on his tractor
13:15And
13:16I'd never really been around a load of bulls
13:19Like a mass
13:20Good
13:21Good of
13:22And he went to open the gate and close it and there was a load of hay on the back of the tractor
13:28And he all of a sudden this like it felt like a hundred bulls were running towards me
13:36And since that moment I just think you know out of respect I don't need to wrangle
13:42Leave them alone
13:43Anything
13:44Really
13:45I leave them alone
13:46Wise
13:47Wise
13:48And Paul Rudd what is the connection to Ireland that you love Ireland so much?
13:51I just think it's the greatest place
13:52I just love Ireland
13:53I first went there on my own I loved Irish music and I was just very drawn to Ireland
13:58Okay
13:59And then my father spent a lot of time in Ireland because he was a Titanic expert
14:03And he used to take groups of people throughout Ireland to Belfast to Harlan Wolfe where the ship was built
14:08And he'd go down to Cove which was the last port of call
14:11Yeah
14:12Yeah so we spent a lot of time in Ireland
14:14Yeah
14:15Was that his job?
14:16Yeah
14:17Yeah
14:18Wow
14:19That's very niche
14:20Yeah he
14:21It is
14:22It really is
14:23He used to work with the airlines and was a big history buff he loved history
14:28But he was a real Titanic enthusiast
14:31And that was he started kind of giving these Titanic historical tours to other people who were as interested in Titanic as he was
14:39And late in his life that was what he did
14:43Yeah
14:44And is Rod an Irish name?
14:45I think there's other Rod sausages
14:47Is that rig a male Jessie Buckley?
14:49I never had a Rod sausage
14:50No
14:51I'll bet you are
14:52I can ask your grandad was he Irish?
15:02They were English
15:03Everyone was British
15:04Oh bless a burn
15:05I'm the expert
15:07How are you?
15:08Do you live in America then?
15:10Yeah I was born in America but both my parents are from London
15:13So I grew up in America but we actually spread my dad's ashes in Ireland as well
15:19Wow
15:20Which is an interesting thing to try and get your dad's ashes through TSA
15:24Did you say what it was or did you pretend it was something else?
15:26I did
15:27No I did
15:28We put it
15:29Like a duffel bag
15:31And put it on the belt going to fly on the airline
15:34I thought oh I probably should have seen this
15:36And they wanted to examine it and check it out
15:38They said what's in the bag
15:39I said it's my dad
15:40In Ireland they would have loved that
15:43Oh yeah
15:44You know you're on the right flight home if you're going home for a funeral so
15:47Yeah
15:48You would have been welcome
15:49That's why it's the best
15:51That's why it's the best
15:52And now there's a tradition I feel Jack
15:55Every time you do a movie somehow it inspires you musically
15:59Yeah
16:00Have you come up with an anaconda song?
16:02I have actually
16:03Do you want to hear it?
16:04No
16:05Quiet on the set
16:15Anaconda
16:19The most beautiful creature in the wild
16:22Anaconda
16:25You're the most popular with boys and girls
16:28You bite and you swallow and you take it down
16:31You are the scariest snake in town
16:34Big as a bus and a hearty too
16:37I made up this song just now
16:39Beautiful
16:42I lied
16:44I lied
16:45I didn't have a song
16:46That was EWDX's
16:47EWDX's
16:48Did you know that I was making it up as we went along?
16:52Because I lied I did not have a song
16:54Oh
16:56Oh it's very good
16:57Anaconda
16:59The scary snake in the line
17:02I think it's a hit though
17:03Yeah
17:04It's pretty good
17:05That's how all songs are written
17:07At first you don't have a song
17:09And then did you see the Beatles documentary?
17:11When you watch Paul McCartney
17:14Sir Paul come up with Get Back
17:16Right in front of your eyes
17:17That's what you just saw
17:19Beautiful work
17:21Beautiful work
17:22A reminder you can see Anaconda in cinemas from Boxing Day
17:30Meanwhile
17:31Jessie Buckley
17:33Jessie Buckley gives an extraordinary performance in Hamlet
17:36It is in similis from the 9th of January
17:39And Hamlet is this incredibly beloved novel by Maggie O'Farrell
17:43When they approached you were you familiar with the book or?
17:46No no I met Chloe Zhao first and then they sent me the book
17:50And for people who haven't read the book and lots of people have
17:54Tell us about Hamlet and kind of its relation to Shakespeare and sort of you know why it's so special
17:59I guess it's a peek behind the curtain of who the family man Shakespeare might have been and
18:08And where Hamlet might have kind of been born from which was Shakespeare actually did have a son called Hamlet who died of the plague
18:15I had no idea about that I thought it was about a Danish prince
18:19Yeah
18:20And it's about love and loss and motherhood and art and the need of kind of storytelling to hold the parts of us that we can't hold by ourselves
18:33And that's it really
18:35And it is it's such a beautiful woman you are God you're good in it
18:38And Paul Mascow we should say plays William Shakespeare and the Hamlet Hamlet thing those names
18:45I remember they were interchangeable at the time
18:47Yeah, yeah
18:48And the same and you're Anne Hathaway but you're Agnes
18:51Well, she was kind of written out of history as you know and I think her father called her Agnes
18:58But she was known as Anne Hathaway and as the woman that kind of pulled Shakespeare back
19:04Which is it you know not the truth?
19:07Well, we've got a clip this is you as Agnes with Paul as William Shakespeare and the children because you have three children
19:15They've prepared you a surprise
19:17One step, come to your right step
19:21Step
19:22One more
19:23One more
19:24One more
19:32When shall we three meet again?
19:35In thunder, lightning or in rain?
19:38When early birds time when the battle was the one
19:42That will be right
19:45HE END
19:47Where the place
19:49There to meet
19:51with Agnes
19:52I come Green Mountain
19:54Had it cool
19:55An eye
19:56FAIRES BUMMART
20:11and watching the film like beautiful sweet scenes like that have this kind of added poignancy
20:22because as a viewer you know that something really tragic is on the way yeah i actually had
20:28no idea they were going to shoot that scene they were so giddy all day because they've been
20:33rehearsing it for like the week and uh except bode who plays susanna the my daughter in the
20:41blue really didn't want to do it i feel like she's like my emo teenager in that where i'm
20:49kind of proud that she's like oh my god i can't believe i've to do this
20:55but it was such a gorgeous shoot and those kids are incredible and paul is promising
21:06and we we should say though if you go to see this film be prepared it will put you through
21:10the emotional ringer there's a a a long section at the end where you're you're agnes and hathaway's
21:17watching hamlet this this play that will you and there's a moment right at the end uh that i is
21:23you and and chloe the director you came up with together do you know what i'm talking about the
21:28the hands yeah um yeah i mean the end we didn't know what to do it was quite scary because it was
21:36like the whole end of shooting the whole film and we'd had this amazing journey and we're like
21:40god we've got to like land the plane now how do you like land the plane after this and
21:45go to the globe which is epic in just its name yeah um and there was a moment at the i mean there
21:53was these incredible extras 400 extras and then there was a moment where i was standing in the middle of
21:58the of our recreated globe and there was all these incredible faces around me and i sent chloe max
22:07richter's um on the nature of daylight and from that piece of music um this ending came where they all
22:17reached 400 people behind me reached their hands to try and touch the play and i guess touch the things
22:25that they've lost in their own life yeah in some way that's a really beautiful moment and this
22:29this wonderful thing's happened to you you're now a mom you became a mom after the film congratulations
22:40does that kind of when you watch the film now as a mom does it kind of make it even more kind of
22:47emotionally upsetting for you or is it kind of the same that's pretty i watched it first when i was
22:55eight months pregnant and i was not okay there's nothing you know embarrassing to cry at your own
23:03film but i was pregnant so i'm kidding but it felt it was you know it's about a lot it's got a lot of
23:10birth and death and motherhood and children and um i wanted to be a mom for a long time and um i got
23:18pregnant like a week after i wrapped wrapped this film so it was pretty yeah it's beautiful well it's
23:25lovely that those things are all kind of entwined now yeah talking of hamlet and shakespeare uh paul
23:30rudd you've played hamlet haven't you i did in a scene oh okay yeah yeah i did it you were really good
23:36in it yeah thank you i cried when i did it too i did uh i did uh i did i did do a a production of
23:45it but it was very posh wasn't it it was pretty posh yeah yeah well it was it wasn't that posh
23:52well wasn't it directed by somebody very famous oh god are you talking about sir ben kingsley that's
23:59exactly what i'm talking about yes yeah this is gonna be another one uh that i did a i was going
24:08to school i did a production of hamlet i was working on a scene ben king sir ben kingsley came to do it
24:12don't forget the sir nope sir ben kingsley came to do a um like a master class and he directed it we worked
24:20on it and it was just for an afternoon really and um and when i was starting my career uh i had a
24:28manager a bit of a broadway danny rose type manager uh who said we need to create a cv for you and he
24:35and i had no credits and he said well what did you do in school and i was like this i did a thing with
24:40hamlet uh ben sir ben kingsley came in and directed it and so he put down ham i played hamlet in a
24:48production directed by sir ben kingsley he sounds brilliant and i was uh i felt very funny about it
25:00um but those that seemed to kind of hang around and my biggest fear in life was that sir well maybe
25:08not my biggest fear in life but my fear was that he he might somehow see my cv what
25:15never went away until now he watches every week now i wouldn't have thought jack back had never
25:25done shakespeare but you have done shakespeare yes i was a theater major at ucla theater department
25:31and we did a production of uh uh uh much ado about nothing that's the one and i played a character i
25:38can't remember what it was called but i remember uh that i was very very good in the play i can't
25:45remember any of my lines i like i like when you refer to your own character as it
25:50it's a very fogging memory but i remember the director can't remember his name either he was like
25:55was it sir ben kingsley it might have been i think it was sir john gilgood actually and he said jack
26:02when you do this part just look straight ahead and don't move a muscle let all the emotions come
26:09through your eyes and say the part plainly and if you do this jack and hold on to these lessons
26:16throughout your life it will serve you well in a career that spans far and wide and i obviously did
26:24not take that to heart i've spent my career overacting and uh not staying still and speaking
26:31the lines blatantly but it was a great experience i'm sure it was yes very good beautiful yeah because
26:40michelle you do you do acting now you've been doing things would you do shakespeare have you done
26:46shakespeare nah and this is what like i feel like i don't have the the range for that kindness
26:54this you've got one accent with me and it's this you know what i mean like even this when you're
26:58talking about hamlet and you's anne hathaway i was like that's just that's an act that's an actor
27:03i kept on thinking that too people are kind of pissed off that i was playing it and not anne hathaway
27:11is that is anne hathaway named do i sound fake wait no she must have been named after the
27:16obviously after the hollywood actress yes right yeah um yeah no none of that for me no period
27:23dramas here i think it would uh there would definitely be some questions are coming up like
27:27no you could crush you reckon yeah you and i maybe this is our next movie yes what would have
27:34romeo and julia julia am i too old to play romeo no no no i can't wait i think we would be
27:41some something delilah i feel so awkward in the middle of this i have since the beginning i asked if
27:51they wanted to swap they said no i'm bringing you back to hamlet i bring you back to hamlet because
27:56i've got to say congratulations you've got amazing reviews and golden globe nominated next month
28:01so listen good luck with that and all the other awards that i'm sure are in your future hamlet is
28:14in cinemas from the 9th of january everybody very good now here's the thing uh being an actor on stage
28:26is you know difficult and all those things but uh michelle de swart you've tackled possibly the
28:31toughest stage of all the catwalk no no but like you didn't and no here's the thing but no you walked
28:38for like really big designers and labels like tell us some of the people you yeah um well not well
28:44i'll say that but yes i did it i did it um walk for uh um missoni gucci versace dng or don't think
28:54gabbana yeah she's the real deal yeah yeah yeah yeah and then gravity came along and i've pivoted and
29:00now i'm doing stand-up was it the fire ants that took you up so you say gravity um gucci 2002 you're
29:11walking and this is quite a famous thing before we get into it we should say you're fine about this
29:16this isn't triggering or anything no well 2002 can you imagine if i'll still triggered now
29:23how dare you it feels like yesterday yeah no i'm fine uh so so we bought the clip should we talk
29:30about it before we see the clip or see the clip you know what it's worth chatting about it first
29:34okay no maybe set it up no go on go on should we just see it no talk about it okay so i'll say
29:45this i got i was pulling pints in a pub all right i got scouted they sent me to milan everyone was like
29:52she's the new model of the moment we're all gonna book her but no one had asked me if i could walk in
29:57hills everyone just presumed that now you've been knighted with the word model then you're that you
30:03know what i mean but i had a walk like a bookie you just like got a winning or something i was like
30:07yeah i had a wide gate it's what i will say and uh and so i go to milan i book all of these shows
30:16and everyone's like yeah you're a model now i'm like yeah proper and um at the time tom ford
30:23was um designing for gucci and uh yeah proper jack yeah and i'm standing backstage and i'm in
30:31these hills and i was like this i'm gonna this there's no way i can walk in these and it was on
30:38this shag pile carpet and tom ford was there and i was like he went how you doing i went i'm not good
30:45not good anyway don't worry you're just gonna stand there and everyone's gonna die and i was like okay
30:50and then you go out onto the runway now most runways are like really short but because it's gucci it's
30:55like the longest runway ever and i start i start walking and i just thought imagine if you fell
31:03and with that stacked it shall we should we watch it now let's watch it let's watch it so here's the
31:09shag pile carpet the beautiful uh here we go is uh here comes here comes michelle the sword oh no she's
31:17okay she's okay she's okay she's okay she's okay oh oh no no no come on you can do this wait wait oh
31:25oh oh oh and then shoes off your shoes are oh you're a woman oh yeah
31:33i love this i love this oh still working it still working it
31:39yes you are beautiful thank you also it says so much about the fashion world you stack it and one
31:48man just kind of went no one tried to help you no no but where this thing is i've been doing stand-up
31:55for over a decade now hands down the funniest thing i've ever done that is rude like if that is that
32:02that's me at my comedy best so listen the comedy's going great you're on your first
32:07major tour it's called the afters you've already done a bunch of it and it kicks off again in is it
32:12march march okay the afters why is it called the afters by the way well as mentioned i was a model
32:18who used to live in new york so i'm an ex-party girl and uh i think much like an afters it is me
32:24chatting at you for an hour and uh hopefully funny and entertaining oh my god and hopefully your
32:31sister well because she doesn't sound like a great audience member your sister oh my yeah all right
32:36so but thank god now i do bigger rooms but when i first started like upstairs in pubs and stuff like
32:41that very glamorous um i was doing one gig my sister came to support me and um every time back then i used
32:49to do a lot of stories about my mum and stuff and every time i'd just be getting to the punchline i'd be
32:53like you know like my mum and my sister would shout out the punchline and just like i'm just like what are you
32:59doing because she knew the story you know what i mean she was like oh yeah yeah like that and i was
33:03just like this is pure sabotage and then she would get a massive laugh and then they would look at me
33:08and i was like no that's it i don't you talk about your mom your mom got you uh into jobs now did she get
33:21you she got you a cleaning job yes yes she that was her job already yes merry christmas mom
33:28um um so yeah one of my i've done a lot of i've done a lot of different jobs before i started
33:34modeling but uh one my first job was a cleaner in an office building and uh my mum was like right
33:39i'm gonna do this day you do the other days right and um my mum uh she's a changed woman now but my
33:45mum really got a kick out of nicking and uh we're in this corporate in this like corporate office building
33:52and my mum would send me in i think i was pretty young like 13 14 at the time this is my first job and
33:57she'd be like right all right so when you do the second floor if you go into the kitchen they've
34:02got a really good dinner set now i've got the cups and you've got to get the plates okay that is your
34:08job you've got to nick the plates and i was just like i was such a you know like a anxious kid i'd like
34:14be freaking out it was like i was doing a heist in the loop you know what i mean i've got to nick these
34:19plates my mum so we can have the full set which is weird because she doesn't cook so it's sort of like
34:23what are they here for yeah did you just have them on display what no no i don't know you know
34:30but we did get the full set so well done yes that's very proud um and talking of early uh jobs things
34:40jack you got into acting really early i did i was a child actor it's true yeah
34:45i'm a little defensive i know yeah no we child actors get a bad rap but uh i survived and i'm
34:53fine nothing wrong with me was your first job the commercial for pitfall yes that was my first
35:00booking uh and but i want to clarify i didn't have the kind of parents that were like get out there and
35:06make money for us you kid you can make and bring back home the bacon for us we want to go put it on
35:13the slots i drove that car i was a real ham i loved putting on a show from a very early age
35:23and i wanted to go on auditions i wanted to get out there and be i wanted to be on tv
35:28so that the kids at school could see me and uh and my stepfather david cats actually drove me
35:35around town to go on the auditions and i went i remember that audition like it was yesterday i
35:39went in there and i and i did the lines and they said uh could you do it again jack and this time do
35:44it really cocksure really overconfident and i was like i think i could do that and in my mind i was
35:50like they fell into my trap like main move is overconfident guy so i did it again and i just poured
35:58on all the sauce just last night i was lost in the jungle with pitfall harry surrounded by giant
36:04scorpions and cobra rattlers and man-eating crocodiles i still remember all the lines
36:09we've got we've got the commercial we've got the commercial we've got the commercial we've got
36:13the commercial and you do remember your lines i do and and you know often when you watch these
36:17things you kind of think oh that you know the person is unrecognizable this is just jack black
36:23young i mean it's just it's just it's it's extraordinary uh by the way do check out the
36:29state-of-the-art computer graphics in pitfall the game here we go just last night i was lost
36:36in the jungle with pitfall harry surrounded by giant scorpions and man-eating crocodiles if you
36:41haven't met pitfall harry you're missing the year's most incredible video game adventure pitfall for
36:46the atari 2600 and in television pitfall designed by david crane for activision
36:54so good yeah it was also the best game yeah pitfall was the best game you know what i realized
37:05while we were watching that just now is that i've been doing jungle themed since i was a child i know
37:11there's something weird about me and the jungle because we got this movie also chuman she don't
37:16forget jungle themed and that's all i can oh king kong i was in king kong jungle themed yeah what's going
37:22on here at tropic thunder tropic thunder have you been to the jungle have you been to the jungle
37:32um no i went on a safari once you did that's the jungle it was and it was one of the most terrifying
37:38things i've ever done yes it doesn't sound like you'd like that jesse well i actually typed in solo
37:44traveler adventures into the internet and found myself on the salu reserve amongst the maasai tribe
37:50when i was about 22 and i is that in africa the salu is that yeah yeah in tanzania and i remember
37:58i got into my tent in the first night i did not sleep for a week every sound i was like
38:04and they give you like a pre-chat to be like do not open your tent there's hippos right there they
38:11will eat you yeah the mama has just had her baby she's really hungry and you're like okay and the
38:18only thing i could find i like me i got really drunk the second night because i was like i just
38:23gonna have to like basically pass out to get to sleep but the only thing that i could find solace in
38:29was they had like a crate and there was like the tiniest lock on this crate that i found to lock
38:35the bottom of the tent like that was gonna like solve the hippo will go i'd like to but no loads of
38:48uh listen it's been lovely talking to you all and don't forget michelle desward is on tour from next
38:53march go see her okay it's time for music this brit award-winning singer-songwriter has given us
39:02a string of hits including another love and black friday here performing his current single
39:06when i close my eyes it is tom o'dell
39:28the house it feels so empty
39:31the house it feels so empty
39:36cause now i live alone
39:44the kid next door keeps asking me where you've gone and i tell him i tell him you've gone home
39:54but when i close my eyes
39:58but when i close my eyes standing there in front of me
40:02when i close my eyes it's almost like it used to be
40:10the day
40:21and then i realize
40:23then i realize
40:25you're just a ghost
40:29And the days could be so lonely, so I stay out all night, and my friends say take it slowly,
40:54and I tell them that I'll try, and when I close my eyes, you're standing there in front of me,
41:08and when I close my eyes, it's almost like it used to be, and then I realize, you're just a ghost.
41:23Maybe I'm most a fragment on my mind, when I close my eyes, and every thought I think, it cuts me like a knife,
41:42and I just wanna bring, bring you back to life. Tonight the sun will set, tomorrow it will rise, and all that I've got left,
42:00is when I close my eyes, you're standing there in front of me, and when I close my eyes, it's almost like it used to be,
42:16and then I realize, you're just a ghost. Maybe I'm most a fragment on my mind, when I close my eyes, when I close my eyes,
42:38and when I close my eyes, when I close my eyes, when I close my eyes.
42:50Thank you to the orchestra, all 27 of them, and the conductor, beautiful Tom, come on over Tom do, here he comes, wow, that was amazing.
43:20Thank you so much.
43:22Tom, that's Michelle, Jesse, Jack, Paul, that is Tom O'Dell, right there.
43:30Oh, I love it. Nice. There you go.
43:32Sit down too. That was gorgeous, and that orchestra sounded amazing.
43:36Amazing. The polyphony orchestra, everybody.
43:38Polyphony orchestra.
43:39APPLAUSE
43:42Like, as a musician, that must feel great, having that sound behind you.
43:47Yes, I rest very peacefully last night knowing that they were going to be here.
43:52LAUGHTER
43:53But, yeah, they're incredible.
43:55Some of the greatest musicians in London over there, so it's a real privilege to play with them.
44:00Thank you so much.
44:01APPLAUSE
44:02Thank you for being here.
44:03And I don't want to give Paul Rudd a complex or anything, but it's another Jack Black fan on the couch.
44:09What?
44:10Yeah, yeah.
44:11It's all...
44:12There's not a couple I say.
44:13Oh, my God.
44:14I get it.
44:15Yeah.
44:16My cup runneth over with fans.
44:18LAUGHTER
44:19It's a farm club.
44:20So tell me, what is it about me that you like so much?
44:24LAUGHTER
44:26I was 12 years old when School of Rock came out.
44:30Oh, nice.
44:31And playing the piano was not the coolest of choices.
44:36And that scene when you're playing The Doors...
44:39Yes!
44:40Dude, you were the age of those kids in the movie.
44:42Yeah.
44:43It was like I was the perfect...
44:45It was the perfect time for me to watch that film.
44:47Oh, man.
44:48Let's rock today.
44:49Yeah.
44:50Yeah.
44:51Look at you now.
44:52Thank you, brother.
44:53I love it.
44:54That track, that is one of the extra tracks on the new deluxe version of A Wonderful Life.
45:01A Wonderful Life epilogue.
45:02Yes.
45:03And is this deluxe one out now, too?
45:05That came out, yeah, a few months ago.
45:06OK, brilliant.
45:07And that song...
45:09Here's the thing.
45:10Recording that track in particular apparently was kind of challenging.
45:14Yeah.
45:15I've actually, like, tried to put this song on my last three albums
45:19and it's a very emotional song.
45:22And it's kind of about grief and losing someone.
45:26But every time I came to record it, I would sing the verses fine
45:31and then as soon as I get to the chorus, I would sing it in an Australian accent.
45:35LAUGHTER
45:36So it would be the kid next door keeps asking me where you've gone
45:40and I tell him...
45:42I tell him you've gone home.
45:44When I close my eyes...
45:46LAUGHTER
45:48And I was OK with that.
45:51I played it to my wife and she said,
45:53you cannot put this song out if it sounds like a joke song.
45:56But I think it's that thing where it was so emotional,
45:59I didn't even want to, like, confront it.
46:02So I was subconsciously trying to avoid and sort of making voices,
46:06I don't know, funny voices.
46:07And listen, real thanks for being here because you say you just,
46:10literally just finished an arena tour.
46:12Yeah, like a week ago, yeah.
46:13Yeah.
46:14Where was that?
46:15You just finished in...
46:16I finished in...
46:17Oh, God.
46:18I can't remember.
46:19Antwerp.
46:20Antwerp.
46:21Antwerp.
46:22Antwerp.
46:23Good night, Antwerp.
46:24Yeah.
46:25And you are off to Australia.
46:26You've got the accent already.
46:27I'm off to Australia, yeah.
46:28Yeah, we're going...
46:29We're doing some shows over there in January.
46:31You should sing the Australian version of that song.
46:33I will be.
46:34While you're there, check out some of the swamps.
46:37They're beautiful this time of year.
46:40Yes.
46:41Listen, good luck with the tour of Australia.
46:43Thank you very much.
46:44Thank you for that performance.
46:45Tom O'Dell, everyone.
46:47Thank you very much.
46:50That is nearly it before we go.
46:53Just time for a Christmas visit to the big red chair.
46:56Hello.
46:57Hello.
46:58Hi.
46:59What's your name?
47:00I'm Lynne from Chippenum and Wiltshire.
47:01Excellent.
47:02The hopes of a nation are resting on you and your Christmas jumper.
47:06What do you do in Chippenum?
47:08I'm a part-time travel money advisor.
47:11A part-time travel money advisor.
47:14It sounds like it will be full-time, but no.
47:16No.
47:17Only as a part-time.
47:19I'd like to ask her about my travel money, but I can't.
47:22She's not on today.
47:24Call her on Tuesdays.
47:26That's her best day, yeah.
47:28She's rested.
47:29OK.
47:30Off you go with your story.
47:31OK.
47:32So I was weirdo'd quite early and I spent a few years just bringing up my children.
47:35Yes.
47:36And eventually I thought, well, I need to get back out there.
47:38Yeah.
47:39And I met a young man and after a little bit of time I decided it was time to allow him to stay over.
47:45So I said to him, well, give me ten minutes, I'm going upstairs and just follow me up in ten minutes.
47:50So I dressed seductively in underwear that you keep just for the bedroom, complete with high heels.
47:58Oh, my God.
47:59Yes.
48:00And I sort of sprawled seductively on the bed and just waited.
48:05And I had my eyes closed in anticipation of what was to come.
48:09And I heard the door open, kept my eyes closed because I wanted to build the moment.
48:14And all of a sudden my teenage son says, can you call me at six in the morning?
48:18I've got an early shift.
48:19LAUGHTER
48:20That's a pretty good story.
48:21It's quite sweet.
48:22You can walk.
48:23You can walk.
48:24Go on.
48:25APPLAUSE
48:27OK, that really is all we've got time for.
