00:00Here in Medway, this group of women meet up every week to combat social isolation.
00:10Women in Sheds offers a safe place for individual hobbies and community projects.
00:15It's a way of creating a sense of purpose and achievement as well as boosting social interaction.
00:21Women love to have conversations. They need the friendship that comes from being in a women's only group.
00:33And it differs because it's not so much about being only in the Sheds and using the tools and making different objects and products.
00:46It's more about the health and the wellbeing and the positive retraining.
00:53And to offer a space where women feel safe, that they can build relationships with others.
01:04In this session, one member taught the other women how to make paper stars, as learning new skills is one of their core values.
01:13Other activities can range from gardening and woodwork to electronics and crafts.
01:20Just coming here and being part of something in a very caring way.
01:26We have a WhatsApp group here and when any of us are struggling, you know, if we're not here face to face,
01:32we can WhatsApp each other and people will give advice and help.
01:37And just to know somebody out there that you know is listening.
01:40Work's been quite a fraught of late, so actually this has been a real godsend for me.
01:47And being able to just come and be yourself without expectation.
01:53Being able to be creative I find really useful in terms of just that kind of mindfulness.
01:59I find it just encourages you to relax because sometimes it can be difficult depending on what life has thrown at you.
02:05After seeing the success and importance of Men Sheds on people's lives, women across the county wanted their own space where they could talk, create friends and gain transferable skills.
02:17But Women in Sheds currently only runs in Medway and with so much eagerness across women to have more of these safe environments,
02:23there are plans to enhance these spaces even further.
