00:00Following what Simon Edgecombe claims was an innocent transaction,
00:05he and a female shop worker were sent to prison in March 1983, convicted of theft.
00:12He said, have you ever had money from the girl in the post office? And I said, yes, yes.
00:18In what way? And I said, well, I sold the owner of the post office a van,
00:23which is what he'd asked for. And the girl in the post office cleared it and paid me.
00:28Simon says he's entirely innocent and accuses the businessman of allowing two innocent people
00:35to be sent to prison. And Kent Online have now tracked this businessman down to his home in Uganda.
00:42The businessman insists he's done nothing wrong and says that as far as he is aware,
00:47he and Simon have never even met or had any dealings over a van. But Simon disputes this account.
00:54It's difficult to know why he would want to distance himself if he's got nothing to hide.
01:00I suggest he probably has because he knew full well what was going on. So he just didn't want to
01:06know.
01:07The businessman did remember the woman involved, who we have called Jane. Speaking out for the first
01:12time, Jane told Kent Online that she was often instructed to use the post office till to settle
01:18personal expenses and that she remembers the transaction involving the van. And Simon says
01:24he's determined to overturn both their convictions. The post office ruined her life. It didn't do much
01:32for mine, but they ruined her life anyway. And they need to answer for that. However, he's faced issues
01:37in his appeal due to a lack of physical evidence or documentation of his case ever existing. But he's
01:45hoping that more witnesses will come forward to help with his case, which he feels is now in a much
01:50stronger position. The post office has said there's no evidence it was involved and will not be drawn on
01:56the matter. And the criminal cases review commission is currently looking at the case to see whether
02:01its investigators will take it on. For Simon, he's hoping that this latest breakthrough will be the key
02:07in overturning what he says is a miscarriage of justice. For 43 years, as I said, I've just been
02:14screaming. But since KM became involved, it's just escalated into no hope to now a 99% chance this will
