00:00The day began at Bondi with a really striking display, a paddle-out involving, organizers
00:08said, up to 2,000 people.
00:11The people took their surfboards out onto the water, they formed a circle, they held
00:16a minute's silence out there.
00:18And organizers said they wanted to show the Jewish community how much they mourned with
00:23them.
00:24They wanted to also give them the sense that they were part of the fabric of Australian
00:29society.
00:30It was, though, also a chance for non-Jewish members of this community to begin the healing
00:37process.
00:38It just really brought a lot of emotions, but, like, for ones, like, the positive ones, and
00:43just showing that this is part of who we are, and, like, yeah, it just felt incredible to
00:49be out there.
00:49Now, at the waterfront, it almost feels, after that paddle-out, like life is starting to return
00:56to normal.
00:57It was almost a bit of a circuit breaker.
01:00The cafes are filling up again.
01:02There are more people on the sand than we've seen throughout the week.
01:05And the sounds of beach life are back again.
01:08Here, in front of the pavilion, it's still a very intense scene of mourning, of grieving.
01:15Many, many people still coming here to lay flowers, including today, for example, the Governor-General,
01:21Sam Mostyn came here and laid a bouquet of native Australian flowers.
01:26Also, many members of the public.
01:29I spoke earlier to a man originally from England.
01:33He's been in Australia for ten years.
01:35And when he first came here, Bondi was his home.
01:39Bondi is a utopian place where people welcome different backgrounds.
01:47Religions, creeds, don't matter.
01:48It's full of happiness and joy.
01:52And I hope it can get to that place again after the healing of this terrible loss.
02:01Now, those emotions, I think, are really going to be on display, of course, across the coming days.
02:08But in particular, on Sunday, a national day of reflection has been announced.
02:14People are being encouraged to light a candle at exactly the time of the evening when this attack began to unfold.
02:23It's going to be a difficult day.
02:26I think there are going to be a lot of people coming out here to Bondi.
02:30And I think it's going to be a chance for this community to grieve some more, but also to begin to move forward.
