00:04Today, we're diving into an awesome story about a super brave and smart lady named Abigail.
00:10It's a tale filled with action, drama, and a really important lesson about how to handle tricky situations with kindness and wisdom.

00:23Our story starts with a man named David.
00:26You might remember him as the shepherd boy who took on the giant Goliath.
00:30Well, now David was a grown-up, a mighty warrior leading a group of loyal men.
00:36They were living out in the wilderness, kind of like a team of adventurers.
00:40And they were really good at protecting the local shepherds and their flocks from any danger.
00:45Think of them as the best neighborhood watch ever.
00:48One day, David and his men were near the lands of a very, very rich man named Nabal.
00:53Nabal had thousands of sheep and goats, and he was getting ready for a big celebration called the Shearing Festival.
01:00It was a time when all the wool was cut from the sheep, and everyone would have a big party.
01:06David's men had been like bodyguards for Nabal's shepherds, making sure no one bothered them and no animals got lost.
01:13They did a great job, and everything was safe and sound.
01:17So, David thought, hey, we've helped Nabal a lot.
01:21Maybe he'll share some food from his big party with us.
01:24It was a totally fair request, right?
01:27David sent ten of his young men with a polite message, asking Nabal for some provisions.
01:32They were respectful and explained how they had protected Nabal's property.
01:37But Nabal, oh boy.
01:39Nabal was not a nice guy.
01:41His name actually means fool, and he really lived up to it.
01:44When David's men arrived and delivered the message, Nabal was incredibly rude.
01:50He scoffed and said, who is this David?
01:52Who is this son of Jesse?
01:54There are all sorts of servants running away from their masters these days.
01:58Why should I take my bread, my water, and the meat I prepared for my shearers,
02:03and give it to men I don't even know?
02:05Well, now can you believe it?
02:06He was not only ungrateful, but he also insulted David,
02:10who was a famous hero and soon to be king.
02:13He completely dismissed all the help David's team had provided.
02:17Nabal's words were like throwing gasoline on a fire.
02:20When David's men returned and told him what Nabal had said, David was furious.
02:26He felt disrespected and dishonored.
02:29His kindness had been met with pure arrogance.
02:31In his anger, David told his men,
02:34Every man, strap on your sword.
02:36He gathered for hundreds of his soldiers and set off,
02:40planning to teach Nabal a lesson he would never forget.
02:43It was a very tense and dangerous situation.
02:46David was so angry that he planned to wipe out Nabal and his entire household.
02:51But this is where our hero, Abigail, enters the story.
02:55Abigail was Nabal's wife, and she was the complete opposite of him.
02:59The Bible tells us she was intelligent and beautiful.
03:03Where Nabal was foolish and mean, Abigail was wise and kind.
03:07One of Nabal's servants, who knew how foolish his master was, ran straight to Abigail.
03:13He told her everything that had happened.
03:15He said,
03:16David's men were so good to us.
03:18They were like a wall of protection around us day and night.
03:21But when David sent messengers, our master insulted them.
03:25Now David is coming with his army, and something terrible is about to happen.
03:30You have to do something.
03:31Because Nabal is such a difficult man, no one can even talk to him.
03:36Did Abigail panic?
03:37Did she hide?
03:38Nope.
03:38Abigail was a woman of action.
03:41She knew there was no time to waste.
03:43Without even telling her husband, she immediately got to work.
03:47She knew that angry words had started this problem, but wise actions could solve it.
03:51She quickly gathered a huge gift to take to David.
03:54It wasn't just a small snack.
03:56It was a feast on the go.
03:58She prepared 200 loaves of bread, two large skins of wine, five dress sheep, a bunch of
04:04roasted grain, 100 clusters of raisins, and 200 cakes of figs.
04:09She loaded all of this onto donkeys and sent her servants on ahead, telling them,
04:15I'll be right behind you.
04:16She was creating a buffer, a peace offering to calm David's anger before she even got there.
04:22As Abigail rode her donkey down a mountain path, she saw David and his men coming toward her.
04:28This was the moment of truth.
04:30She could have been terrified, but she was filled with courage.
04:34She quickly got off her donkey and bowed low to the ground before David.
04:38This was a sign of great respect.
04:40Then she began to speak, and her words were like a cool, calming river.
04:45She said,
04:46My lord, please, let the blame be on me.
04:49Please let me speak, and listen to what I have to say.
04:52Don't pay any attention to that foolish man, Nabal.
04:56He is just like his name suggests.
04:58But I, your servant, did not see the men you sent.
05:01She was so humble.
05:02She took responsibility for her husband's mistake, even though it wasn't her fault.
05:07This showed David that she understood his frustration.
05:10Then she said something incredibly wise.
05:12She told David,
05:14The Lord has kept you from coming to shed blood and from avenging yourself with your own hands.
05:20Now, please accept this gift I have brought for you and your men.
05:24She gently reminded David that taking revenge wasn't his job.
05:28It was God's.
05:29She helped him see that if he went through with his plan, he would have a heavy heart and a guilty conscience later.
05:35Especially when he became king, she was helping him be the great leader he was meant to be.
05:40Not someone who acted out of anger.
05:43David was completely stunned.
05:44He listened to her words, and his anger just melted away.
05:48He looked at Abigail and realized she was right.
05:51He said,
05:52Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who has sent you today to meet me.
05:57May you be blessed for your good judgment and for keeping me from bloodshed this day.
06:02As surely as the Lord lives, if you had not come quickly to meet me,
06:06Not one male belonging to Nabal would have been left alive by morning.
06:11David accepted her gift and told her,
06:14Go home in peace.
06:15I have heard your words and granted your request.
06:18Because of Abigail's courage, wisdom, and quick thinking, a huge disaster was avoided.
06:24She single-handedly saved every person in her household.
06:27She was a true peacemaker.
06:29When Abigail got home, she found Nabal having a party like a king,
06:33completely unaware of the danger he had been in.
06:36He was in no condition to listen.
06:38So she wisely waited until the next morning to tell him what had happened
06:42when she told Nabal how she had stopped David and his army.
06:47The story says his heart failed him and he became like a stone.
06:51The shock of what he had almost caused was too much.
06:54About ten days later, the Lord struck Nabal and he died.
06:58His folly and arrogance led to his own downfall.
07:01When David heard that Nabal was gone,
07:04he praised God for handling the situation and for keeping him from doing wrong.
07:09And then he did something amazing.
07:11He remembered the wise and courageous woman who had saved the day.
07:16He sent a message to Abigail and asked her to become his wife.
07:20Abigail accepted and she went on to become one of David's most respected wives
07:25and a trusted advisor.
07:26Her story is such a powerful example of how one person's wisdom can change everything.
07:33She didn't use weapons or force.
07:35She used humility, respect, and smart words to resolve a conflict.
07:40So, what can we learn from this incredible story?
07:43First, we see the difference between wisdom and foolishness.
07:48Nabal's pride and mean words nearly caused a catastrophe,
07:52while Abigail's humility and kind words brought peace.
