00:00Welcome to Shusha, Azerbaijan's cradle of culture, known for its creativity, its artists, and the landscapes that inspired them.
00:22So Samaya, you're going to highlight some of the cultural things we can see and do here, and what better place to start than Shusha Fortress?
00:30Welcome to Fatale City, Shusha, Nathalie. Shusha was very famous for the silk, for the carpets, for the horses, and lots of traders used to come to Shusha, and these gates were opened early in the morning and were closed at night.
00:48Samaya took us on a short ride away to Jeddah Plain, which overlooks the Desholti Gorge.
00:53I see the number of the tourists visiting Shusha is climbing, because they come to see, for example, Jeddah Plain. Look at this beauty.
01:03It's incredible.
01:03Yeah, this is really incredible. This is a magnificent place, and this is a history. At the same time, there's a fairy tale.
01:11Just around the corner lies the Waggif mausoleum. It stands as a place for quiet reflection, honouring one of the poets that shaped the city, and was built using Shusha stones.
01:22Waggif was a very interesting and very creative person. He was advisor of the second king of Karabakh, Shusha.
01:31But first of all, he was a very talented poem, and this place is very unique, because every year, Waggif Poetry Nights are being celebrated here.
01:42All poets from different regions of Azerbaijan come together in this place.
01:46I've come a few kilometres out of the city to be closer to nature again. For thousands of years, water has been flowing through these rocks at Chateau Waterfall.
02:01It's sometimes referred to as an umbrella.
02:05We've walked over two kilometres to get here, and my word, it's enchanting.
02:09Shusha has given the world remarkable talents, and one of the most celebrated is composer, Yüzeyr Hacıbeyli.
02:17The museum preserves the atmosphere of his home, offering an intimate look into the life of an artist, whose work continues to influence generations.
02:26Yüzeyr Hacıbeyli musiqisi, Yüzeyr Hacıbeyli yaracılığı, dünya musiqisinə, dünya bəstəkarlarına elə gözəl tövbələr bəxş etmişdi ki,
02:361907-ci ildə Yüzeyr Hacıbeyli Azərbaycanda ilk opera yazmış və bu, bütün dünyaya səs salmışdır.
02:43Ən əsasdə, onun bir neşə dilə tərcümə edilmiş Azərbaycan xarq musikisinin əsasları kitabı hamı tərəfindən sevilir, oxunulur və yazı masasının üstündə olur ki, hər zaman ondan istifadə etsinlər.
03:00Music continues to play a key role in Shusha today.
03:04Mugam is one of the region's most iconic art forms.
03:07It's an enduring tribute to the city's musical tradition.
03:13Shusha's carpets are a work of art filled with symbolic patterns unique to this region.
03:20We're exploring designs that represent centuries of creativity.
03:24Qarabağ xalçaları öz rəkçələrləri ilə, öz ilmələrinin sıxılığı ilə və üzərindəki olan naxışlarla, digər bölgələrdəki olan xalçalarla fərqlənir.
03:33Misal üçün, bu xalçanı götürsək, bunun üzərində biz Xaribülbül güllərin motivlərini görə bilərik ki, Xaribülbül əsas, Shushanın əsas simvollarından bilidir.
03:42Və bu ancaq Qarabağda toxunan xalçalarda istifadə olunurdu, Xaribülbül gülləri simbolu.
03:47Seeing these carpets up close really show the artistry of Shusha.
03:51The colors, the techniques and the storytelling are woven into every thread.
03:56We're continuing our journey at the Govar Aga Mosque, completed in 1752.
04:02It reflects classic Karabak architecture and craftsmanship.
04:05This mosque has been carefully restored in the spirit of preserving the past and building the future.
04:13Shusha's cuisine is shaped by the region's landscapes, its seasons and its longstanding traditions.
04:19Today, I'll experience flavors that are simple, warm and connected to local culture.
04:24Our time in Shusha has revealed a city full of artistry, talent and beauty.
04:44From the past day to the present, this city is alive with pride, passion and creative energy.
04:50It's been inspiring to witness.
