00:00The problem that eventually cropped up with the Cavite Catipunan was that they had two factions.
00:08One was the Magdiwang that was controlled by, headed by Mariano Alvarez.
00:15And the second one, of course, was the Magdalo, headed by Baldomero Aguinaldo, the cousin of Emilio.
00:26But even though Baldomero headed the Magdalo, Emilio Aguinaldo was the recognized leader.
00:35The leader for them, for the entire thing.
00:38The problem was you have two factions in one single province.
00:42It's their own territory.
00:44So when you have now two organizations in one single province that became victorious,
00:50each and every one now will become one of its own territory.
00:54The only disadvantage that they had was that the Magdiwang in Cavite were located in the different towns that were on the mountain side.
01:08However, the towns owned by the Magdalo, the ones occupied by the Magdalo, were either on the boundaries of the province or near the seaside.
01:18So what happens now? When the Spanish attack, ang ulang natatamaan were the Magdalo people.
01:25It caused quite a lot of problems now because the Magdiwang doesn't want to help.
01:30The only way that they could find a solution for this was to go to the recognized leader and let him referee over our differences.
01:47This was suggested, of course, by both the Magdiwang and Magdalo, which they agreed to.
01:54Let Bolifacio come to Cavite, let him referee over us, let him decide on whatever decision that he has, we will agree too.
02:01So they called Bolifacio, they had a messenger sent to Bolifacio who was hiding in Rizal province, he was hiding in Morong.
02:08He goes now to Cavite, he was met of course by, he was well respected.
02:51And what is this? Si Andres Bonifacio, when he was in Cavite, alam naman natin na si Andres Bonifacio, pambansa na siyang mag-isip, hindi siya nag-iisip in a local way.
03:11Because he was acting like a mayor mga pataon.
03:44And then, of course, the other thing was, kasi sabi nga ng mga istoryang single-minded man si Andres Bonifacio.
03:51Kung ano yung naiisip niya, yun yung talagang gusto niya.
03:54So, one problem was, tandaan natin yung mga Caviteño, religious people.
03:59Now, the paradox of Caviteño is, alam natin na they're very strong people.
04:10Pero, they were also deeply religious.
04:14Deeply religious.
04:15Ang nangyari dyan, Aguinaldo, alam natin, yung Magdalo came from St. Mary Magdaling yan.
04:20Now, what happened was, Andres Bonifacio, meron silang nahuhuling mga praile ng Caviteño.
05:07So, yun, si Telesporo Canseco, a Caviteño, recorded that that is one of the reasons why some Caviteños,
05:15especially the rich people, did not like Bonifacio because of what he did to the priests.
05:20Why was Bonifacio in Cavite so early?
05:24Because we know that he was in Tejeros to help patch things up between Magdiwang and Magdalo.
05:32But back in November, may hidwaan na ba itong dalawang faction?
05:40So, yes. Actually, yun na yung konteksto talaga, yung hidwaan.
05:44So, November pa lang, nandun na siya.
05:46The sources cannot tell us why he stayed so long.
05:50But I guess, he was really concerned with the Cavite affairs.
05:53Or, he really trusted yung iniwan niya doon sa Haring Bayang Katagalugan,
06:00doon sa tinatawag na Sangguniang Bayan ng Hilagahan.
06:03Who are, of course, Julio Nactil and Emilio Asinto.
06:13So, he actually fought side by side with people who eventually became his enemies, no?
06:22Yes.
06:23And, yun na nga eh, papasukin na nga natin, no?
06:26So, going to the Tejeras Convention,
06:28people always depicted na parang it was a battle against Magdiwang and Magdalo.
06:35But for some strange reason, and I will tell you this,
06:38even if I am a Bonifacio advocate,
06:40ang nangyari dito, parang at some point,
06:45these two already were coalescing.
06:48Yan yung context ng Tejeras Convention.
06:51Apparently, it was sa Magdiwangay,
06:54si Berrino de la Salas,
06:55who suggested na dapat magpa-eleksyon na tayo.
07:01Magpa-eleksyon na tayo.
07:02Bakit?
07:04What is the need?
07:05May have a government.
07:07The Katipunan government,
07:08yung Haring Bayang Katagalugan ng Bonifacio,
07:10was a government.
07:12Ang sinasabi ni Severino de la Salas,
07:15hindi lahat ng Katipunan,
07:16at magdiwang ito,
07:17magdiwang siya,
07:19hindi lahat ng members ng revolution sa Kabite
07:24ay Katipunan.
07:25Yun na yung sinasabi natin.
07:26Kasi ka, they discarded the Katipunan method.
07:29At that premise,
07:30parang Andres Bonifacio
07:32agreed to an election
07:34thinking that he will still win.
07:37Sabi ko nga eh,
07:40kung ako si Bonifacio,
07:41dapat eh giniit ko,
07:42may pamahalaan tayo.
07:43Tapos eto pa yung nangyari.
07:46This is an election
07:48to overhaul
07:49the Katipunan hierarchy.
07:54Haring Bayang Katagalugan,
07:55bakit hindi in-invite
07:58yung ibang chapter?
07:59Bakit hindi pumunta si Jacinto
08:01from Pantayanin?
08:03Bakit hindi sila invited?
08:05Bakit itong Kabite lang yung invited?
08:07So parang ako,
08:08parang paradox sa akin yun.
08:09Hindi ko maintindihan
08:10bakit pumayag si Bonifacio.
08:12Unless he was thinking,
08:14hindi talaga siya tagilip.
08:15Di ba may mga taga Batangas
08:17na nandun?
08:17Nandun si Miguel Malvar, di ba?
08:20Well, yes,
08:20because they already joined the forces
08:22in Kabite.
08:24Si Irillo,
08:24taga Batangas yun,
08:25yung nagsabi na
08:26ituloy yung konbensyon
08:27kahit na umalis si Bonifacio.
08:29I will not discount the fact
08:30that there are other chapters.
08:32Pero nagtataka ako,
08:32bakit walang representative
08:34yung mga tao ni Bonifacio?
08:36Di ba?
08:37Yun yung ano doon.
08:38Unless yun na nga,
08:39he was really thinking
08:40that he would win.
08:41If you're going to look at the sources,
08:43that is what it seems to be.
08:45Kampante siya na
08:46susuportahan pa rin siya.
08:47Of course,
08:48what he did not know
08:49was what is already
08:50the brewing thinking
08:52about him
08:53among Kabiteños,
08:56especially the Kabiteño elite.
08:57Kampante siya.
