02:33come out there in there we have 3 kids in place
02:37We're going to have three kids inside.
02:43Police!
02:44Something about hearing, you know, a child is inside.
02:48The hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
02:51Officer Devin Hunt joins officers Turk and Bouchai at the scene.
02:55With the fire department still five minutes away,
02:59it's all hands on deck to rescue the trapped family.
03:02When I heard that there were kids trapped,
03:04I knew that I was going inside,
03:06and I knew that would be dangerous,
03:09but I knew there was no way that I could not go in
03:14and try and get them out.
03:23Where are they?
03:23There's two more of these.
03:26My kids are going to go.
03:28I will see if they're sitting. There's kids inside.
03:31My first instinct was to try and find a way
03:33towards the back of the house,
03:34and Officer Turk quickly followed behind me
03:38into the garage.
03:41You're good, you're good.
03:51Police! Come here!
03:55The first thing we could hear was a man screaming.
03:58We're all here!
04:00Get down! Get down on the ground!
04:01Call here! Call here!
04:05Call here!
04:07You good?
04:08Yeah.
04:09Call here!
04:11The smoke was so thick.
04:13When I first went in
04:15and took a deep breath of that smoke,
04:18I mean, it was like somebody punched me in the throat.
04:22Get down!
04:23539.
04:25Advise, FD, you got heavy black smoke.
04:27In addition to the man,
04:32officers have been told there are three children trapped inside.
04:39I was scared.
04:41I was really worried for them.
04:47Get down!
04:50Get down!
04:51Come here!
04:51Where is he?
04:52Where is he?
04:52Right here.
04:53Once I kicked that door in,
04:57it helped ventilate the house.
05:00Obviously, heat rises and, you know, cold air falls,
05:03and it just created a nice flow underneath
05:07to crawl as low as I can.
05:10Get, get, get, stay low.
05:12It's a plus and minus in a way
05:14because now you're feeding the fire oxygen.
05:17Crawl here!
05:17Hey, Clive!
05:22You get a kid!
05:25I'm stuck!
05:26I'm stuck!
05:30Help me lift the guy!
05:33Here.
05:36The first thing I saw
05:38was the man laying on the ground on his back.
05:41Looks like he's unconscious.
05:43I'm stuck!
05:44Right here.
05:45Hold on.
05:46There's a, there's a girl here.
05:48Lift him up!
05:49No, lift him up!
05:50She's underneath him.
05:52Hold on.
05:57Hang on.
05:59Come here, sweetie.
05:59Sit up.
06:00Try and sit up.
06:02Hang on.
06:03She's wedged.
06:07I looked up and I ended up seeing
06:09the guy that was screaming behind them.
06:11You climb over here.
06:15Climb over him.
06:16Climb over him.
06:17Go that way.
06:17Go that way.
06:18Go that way.
06:20Are you stuck under him, honey?
06:21We got a girl.
06:22We got a girl.
06:24Sit down.
06:26Underneath the man.
06:28Go on, Todd.
06:30Girl down.
06:34Go on, Todd.
06:35Okay.
06:35Hey, what's up?
06:45What's up?
06:49Officer Timothy Shingleton
06:51arrives next.
06:53How many are inside still?
06:57Guys, where are we at?
07:01Where are we at?
07:02Being a father myself, whenever kids
07:05are involved with anything, in my opinion,
07:08they're their first priority.
07:10That's my main focus as soon as I get there.
07:18There's definitely a sense of fear going into the fire,
07:21but I didn't really take a lot of time
07:23to think about consequences or anything like that.
07:25I just wanted to get inside and help.
07:27Go on, Todd.
07:28Go on, Todd.
07:29Go on, Todd.
07:29Go on, Todd.
07:29Go on, Todd.
07:29Go on, Todd.
07:29Go on, Todd.
07:29Go on, Todd.
07:29Go on, Todd.
07:30Go on, Todd.
07:30Go on, Todd.
07:30Go on, Todd.
07:31Go on, Todd.
07:33Is there anyone else in here?
07:34Yes, one right here.
07:36Get her.
07:39Get her out.
07:40Get her out.
07:40Here.
07:41Give me her.
07:41Get her out.
07:42Give me her.
07:42Give her, Todd.
07:43No, this way.
07:44This way.
07:44There's that door right here, guys.
07:46There's that back door.
07:47Go on, Todd.
07:48Go on, Todd.
07:48Go on, Todd.
07:48Go on, Todd.
07:48Go on, Todd.
07:48Officer Shingleton rescues the girl who was pinned under the unconscious man.
08:06It was definitely amazing to reunite her with her mom.
08:16The family was crying and just overwhelmed that we were able to free her from the situation
08:25that she was in.
08:28But my mindset went back to, I'm not sure if my partners are still inside.
08:32I don't know if they've freed the other two.
08:34So, I kind of just head straight back to the same door that I originally made entry into.
08:40Can we get him?
08:41He's pinned with his foot right there.
08:46I see.
08:47He's stuck.
08:49Hey, bro, it's falling down.
08:53Dude, we got to move.
08:54The flames are starting to come close to us.
08:58The environment is getting hotter.
09:00The smoke is getting thicker.
09:02We don't have the right equipment on to stop us from burning.
09:08I don't know how to save those two individuals and how to get out of it alive.
09:12Chuck, turn this way.
09:14Chuck, we got to go.
09:15Chuck, we got to go.
09:16Officers from the Farmington Hills Police Department are desperately trying to rescue a family of eight
09:32from their burning home.
09:34In the chaos, it is unclear how many people are still inside.
09:41I'm very stubborn.
09:42It's not always a good thing, but in that instant, it was like, I'm not going to take a loss.
09:48We need to get these individuals out no matter what.
09:52506, we're extracting him now.
09:56We're getting him out.
09:58Here.
10:03Try to get a hold of his hands.
10:05Sweaty.
10:06Your palms are sweaty.
10:07You can't really fully stand up because of how thick the smoke is.
10:13You got it?
10:17What are you getting him out?
10:19Here.
10:28You got it?
10:30You got it?
10:31Almost.
10:32Almost.
10:33Come here, up here.
10:37Come to me.
10:38He's unconscious.
10:39No, he's not.
10:39He's up.
10:40Come on.
10:41Crawl, crawl, crawl.
10:42Crawl.
10:43Crawl, crawl, crawl.
10:44Come on.
10:45Crawl, crawl, crawl.
10:46Crawl.
10:47Crawl, crawl, crawl.
10:48I go back into takeover, and I grab onto his wrist, and I start feeling him move.
10:56And I'm blown away because he's been unconscious for so long, and seeing him sit up onto his
11:02arms and start crawling, I didn't think that that was ever going to happen.
11:05Crawl, crawl, crawl.
11:07Is that the last man?
11:08Two guys.
11:10How many more people in there?
11:12Two small guys.
11:12Where?
11:13How many family members total in the house?
11:15Three men.
11:16Three men?
11:17Two women.
11:18Two women?
11:19Two, two, two, two guys.
11:20Two, two.
11:21One, two.
11:23506.
11:23We have two men in the back.
11:25There should be one man in the front, two women, three children total.
11:29We have two men with us.
11:31How many of you to count?
11:32Guys, you guys got to get up.
11:34You guys got to get up.
11:35Walk away from the house.
11:36Anyone still in here?
11:39The newborn baby has already been rescued from the home.
11:46Hey!
11:47Jacob, is that you?
11:48Yeah.
11:49I'm pretty good here.
11:50You guys need to get out of there, bro.
11:52Officers think they have everyone out of the burning building.
11:57Get out.
11:58Let's close this door and stop the van.
12:02After pulling everyone out, you start to go into, okay, are my partners safe?
12:07Are my coworkers safe?
12:09The fire department arrives on scene to tackle the blaze.
12:13Hey!
12:14We need a head count!
12:16We need a head count!
12:17We need a head count!
12:19There's one more!
12:21One more what?
12:22There's no more hands.
12:23One more man?
12:25Just when you think you're out of danger, something else comes up.
12:30506 family is saying there's one more male, approximately 20 years old, near the back of the house.
12:36Okay, are we sure we got everyone out of the house?
12:40One, probably 20-year-old man left in the house.
12:43It was definitely panic-inducing.
12:46You know, I started thinking, what if we hadn't found all of them?
12:49That guy?
12:50Hey!
12:52This guy!
12:54Everybody out?
12:56Everybody out!
12:57Yes, we're good!
12:58We're in the home owners.
13:00There's nobody else in the house.
13:01Everybody is out of the house.
13:02Copy, 412 Stain, all occupants are out of the house.
13:06Everyone is out?
13:07Everyone is out.
13:09506, the remaining PD units, return to the front yard.
13:14It was a huge sign of relief that we did not miss anyone.
13:19We got everyone out, and all of my coworkers, all the officers, were safe outside.
13:27We started to look into getting medical aid for everyone.
13:30I was standing with the mother, and she had fainted, and I was trying to wake her up.
13:41Get her on the side.
13:42You're good.
13:43You're good.
13:43You're good.
13:44You're good.
13:47You're good.
13:48You're good.
13:49Everyone's okay.
13:51Look, look, look.
13:53Look, right there.
13:54Right there.
13:55She's right there.
13:56Look, right there.
13:57I believe the mother did not realize that her daughter was out of the house.
14:05She was still in complete panic and shock.
14:08Can you try standing?
14:09Come here.
14:09Come here.
14:10Come here.
14:10Stand up.
14:11Stand up.
14:13There's a baby.
14:14There's a baby.
14:16I couldn't begin to imagine how traumatic this was for the family.
14:20I couldn't imagine, you know, having a child and not being able to help them out of the house.
14:26I'm just glad that we were there and able to, you know, make a difference for them.
14:34All family members are accounted for.
14:38Does anyone know what started the fire?
14:41Were you all sleeping and it was just a fire?
14:43Do you know where it started?
14:44The family was asleep when the fire had started.
14:51The cause of the fire remains unknown.
14:54We have a headcount.
14:55Everyone's out, right?
14:56Every single person's out.
15:00You okay?
15:03I'll definitely never forget this incident.
15:06It was really an incredible job by everybody that was involved.
15:08I remember I was coughing like nonstop and one of the firemen was like, I think you guys
15:19might need to get checked out because I could barely say a sentence without nonstop coughing.
15:26So we ended up getting loaded into the ambulance and taken to Corwell Farmington Hills Hospital
15:32and inevitably getting intubated and requiring, you know, breathing treatment and medical aid
15:40for a few days.
15:42There was some scar tissue built up in my lungs, but luckily, recovery is doing good.
15:48I'm back to full duty.
15:50The family has recovered and everyone's safe.
15:539-1-1 emergency.
16:12I'm calling to report a domestic dispute.
16:16You can hear young children screaming and crying.
16:20I went and knocked on the door and you can clearly hear people screaming and fighting
16:24in the background and children screaming.
16:26I've heard those of the male and a female, aren't we?
16:28It is.
16:29Yeah, it is.
16:32Multiple officers from Oceanside PD are dispatched to the location of the 9-1-1 call.
16:41Domestic violence is a frequent call that we get.
16:45We can't get complacent.
16:46If we get there and we don't assume the worst, we might be surprised at what we're going to
16:52run into.
16:53But if we assume the worst, then at least we're somewhat prepared to take action as opposed
16:58to trying to play catch up.
17:00A second call comes in.
17:039-1-1 emergency.
17:05I think someone's got shots.
17:07How many shots did you hear?
17:09Like five, like five, like five, like five.
17:11We have what's called live 9-1-1 in the car.
17:39You can actually listen to the caller.
17:41I'm about to get off the phone with you.
17:43I hear a lady screaming.
17:45Okay.
17:55Sergeant Schickel and Officer Mulder are the first on scene.
17:59As I get to the door, one of the children comes out.
18:16She's in the back.
18:21The front door is wide open.
18:23We actually entered the bedroom where the victim was lying on the ground.
18:36Ma'am?
18:42No pulse.
18:43She's very warm.
18:44Okay.
18:45We're going to need to pull her out.
18:46Her pupils were dilated.
18:52She wasn't breathing.
18:53Yeah, it's...
18:55It looks like brain matter on the other side.
18:57Yes.
18:58Yeah.
18:59It looks like entrance in the cheek.
19:01Out of the side.
19:04She had a head wound that was significant.
19:07She had a couple of other injuries that I noted.
19:10They appeared to be gunshot wounds.
19:15It's a curtain head wound.
19:19The woman is Kimberly Foster, mother of four, including a four-year-old boy.
19:25Hey, yeah.
19:26We just...
19:26My little brother.
19:29Where the f*** are you?
19:30Where's your little brother?
19:32What?
19:33Okay, everybody else needs to get out of this house as soon as it's clear.
19:36We need these kids out.
19:38Okay.
19:38They saw their mom get shot, saw her on the floor.
19:44Definitely going to be in crisis.
19:47We need to remove them from the scene for their own safety and well-being.
19:53That little boy that was in that room is going to remember the last time he saw his mother lying on the floor.
20:00And that's going to be with him for the rest of his life.
20:04I've got four, five casings over here.
20:12One, two, three, four, five.
20:13I see five here.
20:15Two more underneath the cabinet.
20:17One, two, three, four, five.
20:20Six, seven, eight in the corner, of course.
20:25And those are four, he's in this town.
20:29Where they're just shooting, we can have a couple of casings.
20:33In this case, there were eight, all directed at her.
20:37I would argue that there were some level of hatred, at least in that moment, towards her.
20:42And he was going to make her pay for it.
20:44Hey, can we get suspect name information, date of birth?
20:48Suspect versus Dorian.
20:50Black male, five feet, 145.
20:54We had other officers who interviewed victims' children.
21:00And they actually identified who the suspect was by name.
21:04Dorian Larkin.
21:05Kimberly Foster's neighbors say she and Larkin had a volatile relationship.
21:13He brought extreme violence in front of children.
21:16He needs to be brought in.
21:17We did receive information that he was driving a silver passenger car.
21:29With the technology, there's license plate reader cameras really everywhere.
21:35You can't really drive without hitting one of these cameras.
21:38It's harder to hide.
21:43At that point, we have a hit at a particular location.
21:47Came back to Temecula, California, 30 miles away.
21:55Riverside County Sheriff's deputies engage in a pursuit.
21:59They lead Larkin back within city limits, where Oceanside Police can pick up the chase.
22:15Larkin won't pull over.
22:18Officer Cisneros joins the chase.
22:20We were alerted that he's going southbound on the 15, deputies are in pursuit of him, and he's coming back to Oceanside.
22:40He's doing the same turns, he's doing the same things, and he's buying time for himself to plan his next move.
22:48I don't know how much gas he has in his car, or how many rounds he has in his gun, but something's going to happen.
22:59You know that he might be coming back here.
23:01Yeah, you've been faced 76 in college for a potential spike deployment.
23:06Officers get ahead of the chase to set up stop stakes.
23:25Let's get started.
23:38Hey, you know what's going on here?
23:40Hey, Hey, inán out, you might through the fire!
23:42Fire!
24:00We're pursuing a murder suspect
24:01who is still armed with a handgun.
24:03It's still very dangerous.
24:07The only appropriate thing to do
24:08is stop him as quickly as possible
24:10before he can hurt anyone else.
24:24The community is at risk.
24:27We need to catch this guy.
24:40The murder suspect's vehicle
24:47runs straight over the stop sticks.
24:50But the chase isn't over.
24:52Pass here to see the throat.
25:04We're just going to.
25:05He hit some spikes, and he continued pretty fast.
25:18At that point, I'm now number two in the pursuit.
25:21I'm trying to maneuver my way around
25:24to put myself in the best position
25:26if he did crash and foot bail.
25:28Larkin pulls his damaged car
25:44into a shopping center parking lot.
25:46The driver's parked car
25:47into a shopping center parking lot.
25:59Shots fired.
26:00Good.
26:01Better walk the other exit.
26:07Good shot?
26:10Shots fired.
26:11The suspect Larkin was coming out of the driver's seat and had the gun in his right hand, kind
26:22of shooting it across his body like this at us.
26:28That front door of his car pops open and I'm looking right at him.
26:35I see his face and he's squaring me up.
26:40I'm hearing the gunshots go off.
26:48That's when it kind of slows down and those gunshots get pretty muffled, but I can see
26:53the orange flashes right in front of me.
26:55It was just, kind of just, just survive at that point, don't get hit.
27:10That's when I get up on my gun and I start shooting at him.
27:15We have to engage violence, not because we want to, but because we have to.
27:20Yeah, I won't hesitate to bring it.
27:26We don't have like night vision or stuff like that, so I don't know if he gets hit or not.
27:36Larkin abandons his car and flees on foot.
27:40Now we're going from a closed shopping center to occupied homes.
27:44So now the immediate threat is, is he going to break into somebody's home?
27:48And then are we going to have a barricade hostage type situation?
27:52Looks like he's going to be running toward gold.
27:53Running towards gold.
27:54Running towards gold.
27:55Running towards gold.
27:56Eddie Depp, you're on strange.
27:57You want real shots fired?
27:58Yes.
27:59They're running towards the search for.
28:00Are all SCSO deputies okay?
28:01Oh yeah, are you okay?
28:02They're running towards the search for.
28:04They're running towards the search for.
28:05Are all SCSO deputies okay?
28:09Oh yeah, are you okay?
28:10I'm a rear of four guys okay.
28:17Thank you very much for around us.
28:20Go.
28:21Military, watch for us as they do the company stop.
28:23Lock that off.
28:25Yeah, right here, Sergeant.
28:28Suspense, put your hand to your side!
28:30Hand to your side.
28:32Officers close in and surround Larkin,
28:35who is lying in the middle of the road.
28:38Hey, so grab a shield, grab a shield.
28:41Hey, hand to your side.
28:43Gunning his right hand.
28:44Hey, gunning his right hand.
28:47He is on the ground, laying on his back and not moving.
28:52I'll take the shield to lead up.
28:54All right.
28:56Ready?
28:56Your hands.
28:57Ready?
28:58All right, here we go.
28:59All right, here we go.
29:01Coming from the radio, where are you going?
29:02Where are you going?
29:0310.
29:15As we started to walk up, you definitely
29:17could see a handgun in his right hand right at his head.
29:24JSW to the head.
29:25It was my belief at that time he had inflicted his own gunshot
29:37to himself.
29:38Oh, that's CSO.
29:39That is OK.
29:40Oh, Jesse Ferguson.
29:41The deceased subject is identified as Dorian Larkin.
29:45Once we confirmed that he was dead, I won't say it brings me back down, but now we know
29:50that the threat is neutralized.
29:52Yeah.
29:53Yes.
29:54I mean, the biggest thing is he's not a threat to officers anymore.
29:58Fire?
29:59I fired.
30:00You did?
30:01Yeah.
30:02OK.
30:03He fired, too.
30:04About 5'6".
30:05OK.
30:066'7".
30:07We've also identified two teams.
30:08He tried to kill a lot of people on scene.
30:11Shots fired.
30:12He's shooting at the police.
30:13He's shooting at the badge.
30:14I don't take it personal.
30:15At the same time, people didn't get it put to justice.
30:17Him being dead on the ground, he decided that for himself and he ended on his terms.
30:35I think the most significant thing that stands out here is the violence in front of children
30:41because that's pretty rare.
30:43The child that walked me into the apartment, you could clearly see the sense of urgency to
30:48help his mom, but there was nothing we could do.
30:52That family is going to be devastated.
30:53Those children are going to be devastated for the rest of their life.
31:053, 2, 1.
31:12The Skyway 10K is underway.
31:16The annual Skyway 10K race is taking place across the iconic Skyway Bridge between Teresia
31:23and St. Petersburg.
31:26The bridge's southbound lanes will be free-flowing and open to traffic, but the northbound lanes
31:31will be closing at 3.30 a.m. and will reopen at 11 a.m.
31:35You're looking at anywhere from 7,000 to 8,000 runners coming northbound across that bridge
31:40over the course of several hours.
31:42Sergeant Carter and Trooper Shuck from the Florida Highway Patrol
31:47are stationed at the I-275 northbound Toll Plaza.
31:52I am the closest to the race participants, so if anything's going to happen,
31:56the last person they're going to get to is me.
32:00Everybody was having a good time, and, you know, it was getting towards the end of the race.
32:05Steve, we just had a car come running through the barricades down here at 19 and 41.
32:10Hines and Dahl, if you copy about the silver car.
32:17Hines and Dahl came over the radio and said that a vehicle had broken through the detour
32:27and was traveling northbound in the closed section of the roadway.
32:32On the south side of the bridge, a driver has smashed through the barricade and is speeding toward the runners.
32:45It's going to be a silver BMW northbound. I think she's, I don't know what she is, but she's not stopping.
32:51I was worried because this hasn't happened before.
32:55We have now people on a bridge, and they have nowhere to go if a car comes through this.
33:02She's well in excess of 100 miles an hour northbound.
33:06Tony and Allen, did you start heading that way too?
33:11I'm heading up there right now.
33:14There were still thousands of people still on that bridge, and so I said, Tony, Allen, go stop her.
33:20I just accelerate as fast as I can to go southbound to try to intercept the car coming northbound.
33:30I want to get as far away from the bridge as possible because I want to have enough time to do whatever I need to do to stop the car.
33:38Signal 14, I've lost visual on her. She's well in excess of 100. I can't even see her anymore.
33:44She's probably just about to the toll plaza.
33:46At that point, you get a little bit of a knot in your stomach.
33:50You get, you know, the hairs on the back of your neck stick up, and you're thinking,
33:55OK, what's going on? This is not normal.
33:59Officers station themselves in front of the toll plaza and try to get the driver to stop.
34:05Silver BMW 2, or an elderly white female, mid-aged white female.
34:13She's coming. She's coming. She's coming.
34:15She's coming. She's coming.
34:20She's just looking. She's coming.
34:22And she's approaching the toll plaza.
34:26It's going through your mind. What's the intentions?
34:31A possible terrorist attack does play into it.
34:35Is she going to plow through the runners and, you know, try to hurt and kill people?
34:39We didn't know at the time. And that's why it was so critical to, to stop her.
34:44They're going down at least 100.
34:50When she hit the toll plaza, she was roughly about a half mile from where the runners actually started running.
34:56The suspect driver is coming up behind them.
34:58They're running in the opposite direction. So it's not like you could even see this coming.
35:03There's a wall and then there's a wall and then there's water.
35:07There's nowhere for them to go.
35:09Even if somebody at the tail end started screaming, the people in the middle wouldn't know anything about it.
35:15Watching her coming past that second checkpoint there with those other officers, you now realize that you're going to have to take some sort of action to, to get this person to stop.
35:32Stop.
36:02You don't have to take a stop.
36:06I'm going to be right to take it down all the way.
36:08What do you want?
36:12Get out of here!
36:14Get out of here!
36:20There's no need to do that!
36:21No need to escape!
36:27Single-four, single-four, head on with our units.
36:30I can't get out.
36:45I can't get out.
36:46You okay?
36:47I can't get out.
36:48You okay?
36:49I can't get out.
36:50Come on.
36:51Come on.
36:52Come on.
36:53Come on.
36:54Come on.
36:55She's all right?
36:56Here.
36:57You all right?
36:59Set her down.
37:00I'm coming.
37:01You don't go fast.
37:023-9.
37:03Are you worried?
37:04I'm driving on the tower.
37:06After she goes through the toll plaza, she encounters Sergeant Carter, who's directly
37:11in front of me.
37:12She kind of veers around him.
37:13In my mind, I'm thinking to myself, I'm the last one.
37:17Slow her down, block the road, be an obstacle, force her either to stop or veer off.
37:26It was just within those last seconds that I realized she wasn't going to stop.
37:31And then that's when I pretty much braced for impact.
37:41Don't initially have pain because I have all that adrenaline going on.
37:45But I wanted to get out of the vehicle because, of course, you know, your next concern is,
37:50is the car going to catch on fire?
37:52Come on, come on.
37:54She's right here.
37:57Realizing that she did stop.
37:59You kind of have that, you can just breathe a little bit, but it's not the end.
38:04She's good.
38:05I'm good?
38:06No, she's good.
38:07The trooper you just hit!
38:09Get on with!
38:10I need to talk to you guys.
38:11If you're real.
38:12Wasted.
38:13I swear to God, you assholes.
38:14Get on your stomach right now.
38:21I'm good.
38:22No, she's good.
38:25The trooper you just hit on with.
38:29I need to talk to you guys if you're real.
38:32Wasted.
38:34I swear to God, you assholes.
38:37Get on your stomach right now.
38:42Right behind your back.
38:43Right behind your back.
38:44Don't harass.
38:51When I arrived on scene within a few minutes of the crash occurring,
39:05Tony's vehicle was still on the roadway,
39:08devastating damage to the vehicle.
39:10Tony was already being treated by emergency medical personnel.
39:13The suspect's vehicle, again,
39:16devastating damage to that vehicle as well,
39:19had spun out along to the shoulder.
39:22Trooper Shuck sustained a concussion,
39:25two herniated discs,
39:27and a tear in her back,
39:29leaving her with lifelong injuries.
39:32We are not trained to go head on with any vehicle.
39:37And that was not my intention that day.
39:39My intention was to get her to slow down
39:42or to get her to swerve off and stop.
39:46The crash was not the intent.
39:47The crash was her choice.
39:50She struck me.
39:53The suspect, Kristen Watts,
39:55sustains a broken ankle in the crash.
39:59After stating she suffers from mental health issues,
40:03Watts pleads guilty to driving under the influence,
40:06with property damage and personal injury,
40:09and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement.
40:12She's sentenced to 10 years in prison
40:14and four years probation.
40:18I don't even think she knew what she was doing.
40:21Her level of intoxication was over three times the legal limit.
40:27A head-on collision is probably the deadliest collision
40:32to get any vehicle to stop.
40:35Ever since I've been in law enforcement,
40:37I carried my grandmother's Bible.
40:38My grandmother,
40:42she was like a second mother to me.
40:48When my mom was at work,
40:50she took care of me.
40:52I think I had a guardian angel.
40:53I hope it was her.
40:56I think it was her.
41:00Following Officer Shuck's intervention,
41:03the Skyway 10K event finished without incident.
41:07Tony Shuck is a hero.
41:09The innocent people that were there
41:11didn't even know it occurred.
41:13So, the word hero for her,
41:16absolutely, yes.
41:18There's a lot of what-ifs,
41:20and you think,
41:22damn, I'm lucky.
41:23I'm lucky that I walked away from it.
