00:00I thought, wow, you know, this could be the end of Kai.
00:17Show me your hands now! Show me your hands right now!
00:20Hey, get out of the tree!
00:22Hands! Show me your f***ing hands!
00:26You're f***ing hell!
00:30Get out of the way! Get her out of there!
00:37It was scary. I knew that time was running out.
00:45Yeah, drop it! Come outside!
01:00On U.S. Route 60, first grade teacher Charmaine Fernando is driving to work and recording on her dash cam.
01:14So that morning, I was teaching at Tempe, and that was about a 25-minute drive with no traffic.
01:22I'm on the 60, and then I ended up behind the cement truck.
01:26It was very scary. My heart was pounding.
01:31He hit the brakes, and then he started to slow down-ish.
01:38And then he veered off towards the left.
01:42He hit the brakes, and then he started to slow down-ish.
01:46And then he veered off towards the left.
01:48When he hit the truck, the truck went flying up on the side, and then he hits, like, four other cars.
02:03And then, obviously, the truck was on fire, which was terrifying.
02:16Less than a mile behind Charmaine, police officer Brian Loreson is traveling to the city of Chandler to begin his shift.
02:22That morning, I just had this feeling, ah, just take the 60 today.
02:28And I'm like, ah, that'd be quick and easy.
02:32All of a sudden, boom, the red taillights were on.
02:42That's when I knew something wasn't right.
02:52My mind was telling me whoever was in that burning truck probably got out.
03:13I used my motorcycle to block that lane.
03:16And I grabbed my flashlight, and I was signaling for the traffic to go around us.
03:22I saw hands in the windshield.
03:35And I'm like, oh, they're trapped.
03:38It hit me.
03:47A vehicle on fire, it could be a ticking time bomb.
03:50Anything's possible.
03:53Here, here, here, get out of the way, get out of the way.
03:55I started hitting the window, and I felt like I was hitting a wall.
04:08And it's just like it wasn't breaking.
04:13And I saw hands, and I hear screaming and yelling, help me, save me.
04:17Get out of the way.
04:25I felt like I was battling time at that point.
04:28I wasn't thinking of the heat.
04:30I wasn't thinking of anything other than, I'm not going to let this, this person die.
04:33I saw her leg coming out, and I'm like, okay, she's getting out.
04:51And all of a sudden, I turn around, and the truck falls back on all four tires.
05:04It was scary.
05:05I knew that time was running out.
05:09Get her out of there.
05:10Oh, get her out.
05:11Get her out, dude.
05:19I looked, and I saw the firefighter.
05:21I'm like, he just appeared out of nowhere.
05:25Seeing him was like, you know, an angel, if you will.
05:32Peoria firefighter Asa Pagia is also traveling to work on the 60 that morning.
05:38I'd noticed a column of smoke, a black column of smoke.
05:44I know this truck was fully involved on fire.
05:46I had no other choice in my head but to stop and help.
05:55Car fires are some of the hottest fires that you can encounter.
05:59A car fire can burn upwards of 1,000 to 2,000 degrees.
06:04The tires can explode.
06:05The fuel tank can explode.
06:13I saw the woman's legs kind of get thrown back into the vehicle.
06:16I definitely felt some adrenaline, some desperation.
06:24I saw a faint glimpse of her feet.
06:26And I thought, I got to make this quick.
06:28Get her out of there.
06:30Get her out, dude.
06:37Get back from the truck. Get back.
06:40Get back.
06:46I can't imagine what she was feeling when she was feeling that heat and struggling to breathe.
06:52When she came out, that was a sigh of relief, you know.
07:01Hold that.
07:03Hold that.
07:05Okay, relax, relax, relax, relax.
07:07We got you.
07:07We got you.
07:08We got you.
07:08Anybody else in there?
07:09No.
07:11My next concern was, did she have kids in the car?
07:13Is there anybody in the back seat?
07:15But she said no.
07:17I later found out that she had just dropped her kids off right before this happened.
07:20Slow away from the truck.
07:24Help me.
07:24You good, man?
07:28Yeah, we're good.
07:28We're good.
07:30We're glad you're here, brother.
07:31Well, I was just going in.
07:32Right here, it's good.
07:33Right here, it's good.
07:33All right.
07:34I just said something to the fact that he was like, brother, I'm so glad you're here.
07:38But it was, it was, I was so happy to see it.
07:42You'll be okay, sweetheart.
07:43You'll be okay.
07:43It's just tires going off, that's all.
07:45All right.
07:46You're okay.
07:49I just held on to her.
07:50I was pretty much relieved.
07:52You know, we got her out, so.
08:03The driver of the cement truck is cited by the Arizona Department of Public Safety
08:08for failing to control the vehicle and avoid a collision.
08:13The pickup driver, mother of three, Amy Ruiz, is taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
08:23Oh, God.
08:25One day later, she is reunited with her rescuers.
08:36We got you.
08:39It felt so good hearing that from you.
08:40My heart felt full seeing their faces again.
08:43There's really no words to describe it.
08:45What they did was heroic, courageous, just brave.
08:51It's just insane.
08:54Insane.
08:58When I heard the driver was okay, I just breathed a sigh of relief.
09:01Thank God she didn't die.
09:05You know, just going to work after I was crying, like, it was crazy.
09:09That was a horrible thing to see.
09:18Would I do it all over again?
09:19Yeah, absolutely.
09:20Would I do it for anybody?
09:22Absolutely.
09:22I would.
09:23Because that's what we do.
09:2812.05 by Central.
09:49Traffic stop, Florida.
09:50Actually, we have 12F northbound on Nova from Isabel, Florida.
10:02Nissan, white male driver, white female passenger.
10:05I'll be shut down.
10:06All right, stand by.
10:15They're going down Knox Drive.
10:16A routine traffic stop is now a pursuit after the driver and his female passenger make a getaway.
10:25It is fairly common for the person that's fleeing to drive erratically to try to lose the police.
10:32And northbound to Isabel now.
10:36I'm going to be late behind him, but I can see him turning.
10:4311 are sticks approved.
10:51All right, he's pretty high-ready speed northbound on Isabel.
10:54I'm going to lose him.
11:02A pursuit is underway in Port Orange, Florida, after a driver failed to stop for police.
11:159 in the morning, someone fleeing from a traffic stop is absolutely out of the ordinary.
11:20He's come up to Commonwealth in just a second, but I'm way behind him now.
11:24I think he kept going north past Commonwealth.
11:36He's way up there.
11:37It looks like he's going to go all the way out where he comes out to Ridgewood.
11:45Usually, they have a good reason to run from us.
11:48They may have just killed somebody.
11:50They may have 20 pounds of cocaine strapped under their car.
12:00Okay, guys, let's try and layer up some sticks here.
12:02Space them out a little bit with each other.
12:14Officers up ahead tried to disable the fleeing car.
12:20There he comes, big grass, big grass, two-five, coming your way.
12:36But the driver takes evasive action.
12:42Air one, I got the visual.
12:44Air one, you're right?
12:45There he comes.
12:45Air one, you're right now.
12:46All right.
12:47Air one, you're right now.
12:47Okay, I'm going to go first.
12:48Let them call it.
12:49Go to the exit point.
12:53The Volusia Sheriff's Office helicopter is mobilized and quickly locates the suspect.
12:58Looks like he just struck a car.
13:07Yeah, southbound on standby. Looks like Nob Hill, south on Nob Hill.
13:20Turn 4.
13:21Yeah, he's pulling into a yard. He's in the grass, pulling in behind the house.
13:34All right, can I get somebody with me?
13:41Everyone, where is he at?
13:42Okay, he's bailing. White male, jeans, no shirt, running west.
13:51He's running towards Pruce Creek.
13:54There's a lot of things going through your mind at that point.
13:57We don't know if he's going to run into somebody's house.
14:00We don't know if he's had a gun in the car and he's taking the gun with him.
14:05Yeah, get on Pruce Creek towards the drive. He's running in that direction.
14:09In the car or in the yard?
14:12In the yard.
14:14Backyard.
14:17Backyard.
14:18I don't think.
14:20Six.
14:21Yeah, Tommy.
14:22Come back to the back yard.
14:27All right.
14:41I don't know. I don't know.
14:51I don't understand.
14:54I don't know how you're in.
14:56There's a box right here in the woods here.
14:58What?
14:59Are you good?
15:01I don't know.
15:01Hey, are you 10-4?
15:06The girl was taken into custody pretty quickly
15:08once we ran up into the backyard.
15:11What? I don't know why he did that, baby.
15:15I can't remember.
15:18Now we have this male outstanding.
15:21We're trying to figure out where he may have gone.
15:26Show me your hands!
15:28Come out with your hands up!
15:32It's still tense.
15:33We don't know if he's just going to pop out with a gun
15:35when we're not looking.
15:37He's ducking down somewhere, or he ran this way.
15:46Come out with your hands up!
15:48My adrenaline's pumping.
15:50My heart's racing.
15:54The search for the suspect now moves into thick woodland,
15:57making it difficult for officers to find him.
16:00Here, one, do you have eyes on him?
16:04No, he went into trees.
16:05We lost him as soon as he bailed.
16:08Yeah, he came straight.
16:10He went straight into the woods, straight from the car.
16:11Canine officer Kevin Nugent and his dog Draco joined the hunt.
16:23I brought the dog up to the last known area where the suspect was,
16:27gave him the command to track,
16:29and then basically free-lining the dog,
16:31looking for the dog to show a sign that he's, you know, on odor.
16:36The way scent works is basically the skin has different chemicals in it
16:45that put off a specific odor to you as an individual.
16:49So the dogs are able to recognize that scent,
16:53as well as ground disturbance.
16:57Yeah, that's pretty recent.
17:06It's super exciting going on a canine track.
17:17Dogs going crazy, sniffing the ground.
17:20You're having to scan all around you
17:22because you are the eyes and ears for that canine handler.
17:27All right, we've got some super inside.
17:29I don't know if they're going to be from officers or the suspect
17:31or if it's not something that looks like a crossing.
17:33I see some footprints,
17:44and the dog's showing a good proximity to odor in that area.
17:53Yeah, there was some on this side of the canal.
17:56I just don't know where exactly they were at.
17:57I never saw them back here,
17:58where they came in at exactly.
18:00Wait, wait, wait.
18:01What is that up in the tree?
18:03There's a shoe up there.
18:05Open the tree.
18:06Oaks, you're right here on the backside.
18:07There's a shoe in the body.
18:09Show me your hands.
18:10Show me your hands right now.
18:13If you move, you will be bit by the canine.
18:16Do not move.
18:19Do not move or you'll be bit.
18:23All of a sudden,
18:24I see our suspect up in the tree
18:27just kind of frozen there.
18:29If you come off this tree,
18:33you will be bit.
18:35Hands up.
18:36Pulling down slowly.
18:38Now you're trying.
18:41If you try to run,
18:42that dog will bite you.
18:43Do not run when you get down.
18:45I got a taser on you.
18:49Keep working your way down.
18:50Fall down right now.
18:51If you try to run,
18:52you're going to get dog bit or tased.
18:53You better slowly come down that tree
18:59with nothing in your hand.
19:01Hands up, Steve.
19:01We know you can hear him.
19:06Crawl down.
19:08Crawl down.
19:13If you jump,
19:13that's going to hurt.
19:15Don't jump or it's going to hurt.
19:16If you run,
19:17the dog will bite you.
19:17It's going to hurt as well.
19:18Crawl down the tree right now.
19:19And he started crawling farther out in the tree.
19:29Then he's getting you to 18 feet up,
19:3120 feet up,
19:32probably 25 feet up at the highest.
19:34You're going to end up breaking your leg.
19:36Get out of the tree.
19:36Let's get out of the tree.
19:38North, but he's literally in a tree right now
19:41trying to climb it like hard.
19:43You're starting to get to take it.
19:47Did that dip in?
19:49When you drop,
19:50you better stay right where you're at
19:51or that dog could bite you.
20:02Oh, f***.
20:03You're fine.
20:03I'm going to stay dressed.
20:06Did that dip in?
20:08When you drop,
20:09you better stay right where you're at
20:10or that dog could bite you.
20:15Don't move.
20:16Don't move.
20:16Do not move.
20:17He just sprung up like a kangaroo
20:22and started running.
20:23Turn it off, turn it off, turn it off.
20:26Put the new shot.
20:27Turn it down like that.
20:31Grab this.
20:32Here, get the dog down.
20:33He's fine.
20:34The dog can stay.
20:35Good boy.
20:36I got him.
20:37I got him.
20:38Just hold that arm.
20:38I got him.
20:39You're an idiot, dude.
20:44Hold it, hold it.
20:44Hang on.
20:47Dude, how dumb are you?
20:48Good boy.
20:49Good boy.
20:53The suspect is identified as Jonathan Kaiser.
20:58When he failed to stop for police,
21:01he was driving an unregistered vehicle
21:03with a suspended license.
21:06He is charged with multiple offenses,
21:08including a felony of recklessly fleeing
21:11and attempting to elude officers.
21:13Kaiser is sentenced to 21 months
21:15and nine days in prison.
21:19The female passenger is not convicted
21:22of any offenses.
21:23It was incredibly satisfying to get him.
21:30It was a lot of hard work.
21:32We were out there for a long time,
21:34so we probably were out tracking with the dog
21:37for well over an hour.
21:40The way he was driving,
21:41it really is fortunate that nobody got hurt
21:43from any of it,
21:44and I couldn't be happier with the way things turned out.
21:53When I was at 9-1-1,
22:07what's the location of the emergency?
22:08My granddaughter had a boyfriend
22:10who's been violent with her.
22:12All of a sudden, our door was unlocked.
22:14He walked up into her bedroom
22:16and was a gun in her face
22:17trying to kill her.
22:18We're running out of the house
22:20and now he's outside somewhere with a gun.
22:23With an armed suspect on the loose,
22:29Gwinnett County Police Units
22:31and the helicopter
22:32quickly scramble to the location
22:34to search for him.
22:35We're already flying this night
22:36and we hear the call go out
22:39and because we were already in the air,
22:41we were first on scene.
22:43Nighttime, for us to keep eyes on an individual,
22:45we use our Lear 380 HD camera.
22:48We have infrared capabilities at nighttime.
22:51I always check the instant location
22:56and work my way out.
22:59Our job as the aviation unit
23:01is to essentially be a command post
23:03from the sky guide units
23:04to where they need to go.
23:14Officers are now on scene
23:16and talking with the victim
23:18to get a description of the suspect.
23:19Hey, what is he wearing?
23:24He's got a backpack.
23:25He's wearing a black shirt
23:26and he has the name of his blue backpack.
23:28Okay, blue backpack, great shirt.
23:29It's a black gun.
23:31In the beginning of our relationship,
23:33Levi was actually pretty good.
23:35But it started to become very controlling.
23:38I could tell, like,
23:40something wasn't right with him at all.
23:43After I had finally broke up with him,
23:45he turns around,
23:47pulls a gun out of his waistband,
23:49puts it to my head,
23:50and says,
23:51I'm going to blow this.
23:53All I could think was,
23:56my grandma's going to find me dead.
24:00And that's when my grandma
24:01busted through the door
24:02and I ran out the door
24:05and just cried
24:06and waited until he got out of the house.
24:10412 radio.
24:12Update 78.
24:13It's gray shorts,
24:14black long sleeve,
24:15navy blue backpack.
24:18421 is also headed over.
24:20Above them,
24:21the police helicopter
24:23continues to scan the nearby streets.
24:34Airborne array,
24:35I believe we got eyes on the subject there
24:37behind, uh...
24:39I saw a subject
24:45peek around the backside of the home,
24:48kind of in between two homes,
24:51and then walked back behind the home
24:52to take cover.
24:54So I immediately updated that information
24:56to the ground officers there.
24:59Chief Pilot Lipinski tracks the suspect,
25:02while Pilot Senior Diego Galasso
25:04controls the helicopter.
25:06After we spot him,
25:07we start getting resources
25:08to try to lock that location down.
25:11The unit that's just pulling up
25:17right out your driver's side door,
25:18stop right there,
25:19stop right there,
25:19there you go.
25:21That house right off your, uh,
25:23back left tire,
25:23just keep walking straight.
25:25Maybe, uh,
25:25stay right there
25:26and, uh,
25:27we can get somebody else here.
25:29Uh, he's coming back around here.
25:32Okay.
25:32Come back.
25:33All right, he's running down, uh,
25:40behind.
25:41You don't know what's going on,
25:44uh, in a suspect's mind
25:46at that moment.
25:47My biggest concern
25:48is that they actually used
25:50the firearm
25:51and they harmed somebody.
25:52Gwinnett County officers
26:02are in pursuit
26:03of an armed suspect
26:04who has assaulted
26:05and threatened
26:06his ex-girlfriend.
26:09Let's just, uh,
26:10get a printer set up
26:11since K-9's coming.
26:12K-9's coming.
26:17K-9's not right there,
26:18that's you in the SUV.
26:19To help with the manhunt,
26:22K-9 unit Corporal Carlisle
26:24and his dog Kai
26:26are dispatched to the scene.
26:29Forced in there,
26:29that's me and the SUV
26:30of the light tunnel gate with.
26:33I hear the one on fire.
26:34But they had a guy
26:35that was on the ground
26:36on foot
26:37and they needed K-9
26:38to come track him.
26:40We're going to use, uh, Kai
26:42and we're going to go in
26:42and find this individual.
26:49The bond I have with Kai
26:54is, it's a special one.
26:59Kai is the best police dog
27:01and he's my buddy.
27:03He's my buddy.
27:33There on a canine, 12 o'clock, just jumped the fence 50 feet into the woods.
27:40I had a nice, clear heat signature of him, and then as soon as he went into the woods, it was slowly going away.
27:52That is the fence.
27:53Really thick. Is there another way we can get around?
27:57So the fence to your right was the yard that he hopped the fence.
28:02So if people want to go over that fence there, if not, just follow that fence line all the way back.
28:09When we hear an individual goes into the wood line, and it's, you know, we're going to be at a disadvantage because it's, you know, heavily dense woods and stark.
28:28I know.
28:29I don't know. I'm trying to feed them and they hold us.
28:34Thing is, is the dog, they're down low to the ground, so they can get through that a little easier because they're so low to the ground where we're having to bob and weave and duck and crawl and cuss and everything else to get through that.
28:46The air helicopter was telling us that we were getting pretty close, but it's really, it's so thick.
29:05It's to the point where I don't see anything.
29:08I'm looking at Kai and I don't see him anymore.
29:14Here, Kai!
29:33Kai!
29:36Kai!
29:37Kai!
29:38Kai!
29:39Kai!
29:40I'm here, but!
29:44Shock's fired, Rudy.
29:46After the, the volley of fire, it goes dark and...
29:52I didn't.
30:00Here, Kai!
30:03Kai!
30:05Kai!
30:07Kai!
30:09Here, Mike!
30:12Kai!
30:14Kai!
30:16Here, Mike!
30:18Sorry.
30:22I remember Pullman on the lead, and, uh, I just meet resistance.
30:34Kai, here!
30:40Kai, here!
30:42Where's he at?
30:43Yeah.
30:47I didn't know how we were just going.
30:54Kai, here!
30:55Kai, here!
30:58He's over here!
31:00Show me your hands!
31:02Show me your hands now!
31:04Show me your hands!
31:07Show me your hands!
31:09Put your hands up now!
31:11I could see Kai in my peripheral.
31:14He was just to his right of the suspect.
31:18And I could see him kind of just flaring around a little bit.
31:23So I knew he was still alive at that time.
31:27Back here!
31:29Is that you?
31:30No.
31:31Okay.
31:33All right.
31:36He's hit.
31:37Show me your hands!
31:40Show me your hands!
31:42Show me your hands!
31:43Is he down?
31:47Ready?
31:48Yep.
31:49Don't reach for that gun!
31:51Kicked it out!
31:52Kicked it out!
31:53Go!
31:54Don't worry, Bucks!
31:56I'm turning him over.
31:58I'm turning him to you.
32:00Who do you need help with?
32:01I kicked it over to the right.
32:02Okay.
32:03Okay.
32:04Okay.
32:05Okay.
32:06You're gonna pass it.
32:07No, go on!
32:08You're gonna brush it over.
32:09Come on!
32:11You gotta brush it over.
32:14Tip him over.
32:16Come on!
32:17Come on!
32:19Come on!
32:21Come on!
32:22Hey, you wanna help me carry him?
32:23Yeah.
32:24On three.
32:25One, two, three.
32:26Let's!
32:27Once we approached him, made sure they had him in custody.
32:29and an effected arrest on the suspect.
32:33So let's get him out of here.
32:35All right, OK.
32:36Come on, man.
32:37Hey, doctor.
32:38Come on.
32:39Yeah.
32:41Hey, you want to help me carry him?
32:42Yeah.
32:43All right, on three.
32:44One, two, three, lift.
32:47Once we approached him, made sure they had him in custody.
32:52We have to offer him first aid if he needs first aid.
32:56And then we'll deal with Kai.
32:59Unfortunately, the dog is last.
33:03It's, you know, officer rescue, suspect rescue,
33:07and then decaying.
33:10Air one, I'm ready.
33:11If the four is for the dog and the suspect.
33:17I'm from Highland, the hospital.
33:19Step.
33:20They're going to be en route with the dog.
33:21Step down.
33:22Step.
33:23Step.
33:24I'm trying to figure out.
33:28It's on the side somewhere.
33:31Somewhere on the side.
33:32Check for him.
33:33This is okay now.
33:34I'm trying to get Mark's going, everybody's crap.
33:37They can throw it up for you.
33:39We stayed on the suspect as he was brought out.
33:41An officer started giving, providing the suspect with first aid.
33:57Stay with me.
33:58What's your name?
33:59What's your name?
34:00Levi.
34:01I don't know if there's an exit room.
34:02Levi, we're getting help coming.
34:04We're about to get his gun.
34:06Come here, buddy.
34:07All right.
34:08Hold on.
34:09I need to get the dog out.
34:10You guys clear, Pat.
34:11Come on, buddy.
34:12I don't know how bad his injuries were.
34:14There was some blood.
34:15I could see the blood.
34:16And I was preparing myself that this is probably not going to be a good outcome.
34:36It's all right, buddy.
34:37It's okay, buddy.
34:38It's all right, buddy.
34:39It's okay, buddy.
34:48Corporal Carlisle is desperately trying to get his canine partner, Kai, to a vet after he
34:53was shot at close range.
34:55Oh, boy.
34:56You first.
34:57Yep.
34:58Perfect.
34:59Where is it?
35:00Where is it?
35:01It's in his leg.
35:02Yeah, okay.
35:03Show the bag.
35:04There was a lot of blood zipped on my back.
35:05Yes, here.
35:06You see it?
35:07I just look over them really quick, and I make the call that there was nothing that I
35:24could do right then and there that was going to make a difference.
35:28Okay.
35:29Come on.
35:30I got shit in my back.
35:31We're all out.
35:32We're all out.
35:33Good boy.
35:34All right.
35:35Lay down, buddy.
35:36Lay down, buddy.
35:37Do you want shit in the packet or no?
35:38Lay down, buddy.
35:39It's okay.
35:40It's okay.
35:41What do you need?
35:42What do you need?
35:43We're going with 10-18.
35:44Look out.
35:51If you can get in a couple units, close down the highway.
35:56We're coming down.
35:5720.
35:58To the animal hospital, 20.
36:03We were lights and sirens.
36:06We had officers throughout the county and the cities.
36:10They were blocking every intersection.
36:13I don't think we had it.
36:14We didn't stop once.
36:15It's all right, Kai.
36:16You're all right, Kai?
36:17You're all right, Kai?
36:18You're all right, Kai?
36:19You're all right, Kai?
36:20You're all right, Kai?
36:21You're all right, Kai?
36:22You're all right, Kai?
36:23You're all right, Kai?
36:24You're all right, Kai?
36:25You're all right, Kai?
36:26Probably said this name a million times on the way from the scene to the hospital.
36:33It's all right, buddy.
36:36Hang on there, Kai.
36:38It's okay, buddy.
36:39It's okay, buddy.
36:40And I thought, wow, this could be it.
36:56You know, this could be the end of Kai.
37:00You're all right.
37:01Hi, buddy.
37:02Come here, buddy.
37:03Very nice.
37:04We'll blow you out.
37:05I guess we can see what's going on from the hospital.
37:08He's doing easy, all right?
37:10He's bleeding a lot in the hospital.
37:11It's okay.
37:12Not just coming in the building.
37:13Yeah?
37:14Hey, buddy.
37:15Yeah, it's coming up pretty steady on this outlaw.
37:17Y'all call donoring?
37:19Yeah, I call donoring.
37:20Which way?
37:21Come on, buddy.
37:22Come on, buddy.
37:23You can.
37:24All right.
37:25Good.
37:26Good.
37:27All right.
37:29I do worry because when we pull him out, the amount of blood that he starts, I see that
37:57he's actually losing, I step back, and I think that's the first time I realized that he got
38:03shot twice.
38:04All right.
38:05You got it.
38:06All right.
38:07Let's get a close picture.
38:08Let's get an ID.
38:11Let's get a piece of a look.
38:13You want to pull that one over now, I guess.
38:14Oh, boy.
38:17Yeah, I got it under my trunk.
38:21This is going to work.
38:22He's so weak.
38:22I want him to hear my voice and know that with all the other voices going on in there
38:30up here still, you start thinking about the first time you met, the first time you found
38:47somebody, the first time you found a big narcotic find, all the training you've been through,
38:53all the headaches, the tears, the frustration, the everything.
38:59You start thinking about how he destroys your house and grabbed ahold of the grill cover the
39:04other day and all that good stuff.
39:06And all that stuff just comes all together.
39:09All those memories start coming in, just start flooding in.
39:28To lose a canine partner is like you're losing a friend.
39:31Everyone has, you know, their hero, you know, whatever, there's Superman, Spider-Man, the
39:59Incredible Hulk, whatever, but he's, he's my hero.
40:07He doesn't know it, but he is.
40:11Best thing about it is I get to see him every day.
40:13So.
40:14Come on, buddy.
40:24The perpetrator, Levi Kennedy Bryan, makes a full recovery.
40:28He is charged with nine criminal counts, including causing serious or debilitating injury to a police dog.
40:35He pleads guilty and is sentenced to eight years in prison and 17 years on probation.
40:42I think the one thing that I really took away from that night is that it can happen to you.
40:50The slightest sign of violence, you need to leave because it can turn into this in the blink of an eye.
41:04I don't think that the paranoia will ever leave, but I'm still living and I'm fine.
41:10And he didn't scare me into a hole or take any of my life quality away.
41:21He ruined his, not mine.
41:24He ruined his, not mine.
41:37He ruined his, not mine.
