00:00Here he comes! Here he comes! There's the trumpets, there's the drums, here he comes!
00:10Hop-a-lump Cassidy, here he comes!
00:30It was one of those hot, windless days when you feel like you're being smothered in wool flannel and even the air seems stale and kind of second-hand.
00:43We were determined to find a new and shorter route to drive our cattle to the railhead.
00:49Red and I had been riding since sunup. We were hot and tired so we decided to rest for a few minutes.
01:10If I get any hotter I'll blow up.
01:12I'm glad we come through here though. After it cools off we can drive our cattle through this cutoff just like we figured.
01:19If we drive them cattle through here in this heat by the time we get to railhead there will be nothing but skin and bones.
01:24Folks will have to pay...
01:25Wait a minute.
01:26Huh? Listen.
01:29I don't hear anything. Unless it's the sweat dripping off these trees. You must be getting kind of...

03:02You Matilda Heron?
03:04Yes, but I don't see how that concerns you.
03:06Our boss wants to talk to you.
03:08You must be mistaken.
03:10I don't know you or your boss.
03:14Keep away from me or I'll hit you again.
03:17Okay, lady, we'll do it the hard way.
03:20What?
03:20Oh!
03:21You, you want me to...
03:23Oh!
03:30Hey, help!
03:31You all right, ma'am?
03:45you all right ma'am yes but they shot the driver take a look at him red i don't know who you are
04:05but i was never so glad to see anyone in my life my name is cassidy this is red connors
04:10and may i suggest the next time you're in a stage hold up that you just hand your money over to them
04:15without putting up a fight you might have been killed but they didn't want money they were trying
04:19to make me go with them what well i don't understand it either i haven't been in this part of the country
04:26for years yet those hoodlums knew my name and said their boss wanted to see me their boss
04:31this driver's unconscious but he's still breathing we'll get him right into the doctor at medicine
04:37rock you drive the stage in all right young lady oh my parasol now here's the rest of it
04:43in you go
04:44on the way i learned her name was matilda heron she was a spinster who lived in kansas city
05:00she'd never been west until two weeks ago when she set out to visit her sick brother a teacher
05:05she couldn't imagine why anyone would want to kidnap her neither could she give much description
05:23of the outlaws beyond the fact that they were masked and carried guns there wasn't much to go on
05:28and what there was didn't make sense
05:31samuel heron's home was on the edge of town wasn't much of a place but then school
06:00teachers usually aren't rich
06:02all right there red there you go
06:07red you take the driver on over to the doctor then report to the sheriff
06:18i'll meet you to his office after i talk to mr heron
06:21there you go come on boy
06:27well matilda oh samuel what a wonderful surprise i came as soon as i could this is mr cassidy
06:44how are you mr heron how do you do mr cassidy saved me from bandits
06:47bandits
06:48samuel yes two men held up the stage what are you doing out of bed you march right back into the
06:53house well you're much too ill to be standing here gabbing
06:56ill right back into the house i never knew a man yet who knew how to take care of his health
07:00yes but matilda i'm fine all right
07:01now you go right in there and sit down samuel i'm here to take care of you now
07:05mr cassidy sit down please i'm going to make you a cup of tea
07:08and as soon as i talk to the doctor and get you taken care of matilda i never felt better in all my
07:14life well then why did you send me this telegram what telegram this one here saying you were
07:20about to die and asking me to come at once why i didn't send this you didn't no oh there must be
07:29some mistake maybe it wasn't a mistake what do you mean the two men that held that stage up knew
07:35your sister was in there and tried to kidnap her kidnap that's right oh my goodness what's the
07:42matter it's breck breck the man who murdered sheriff winters
07:47why should he send me a telegram because i was present at the sling it's my testimony that will hang
07:55him well i still don't understand well breck tried to bribe me and then tried to frighten me into
08:02changing my story and when that didn't work they sent a telegram to your sister to get her out here
08:08so they could kidnap her and force you into changing your testimony that must be it isn't
08:13this murder in jail of course what he could have had someone send that telegram and hold up the stage
08:20do you have a gun mr heron i think there's an old rifle around here somewhere oh why well if what i
08:26think is true your sister might still be in danger good heavens do you think those ruffians might come
08:31here they're very apt to well it seems to me i saw that rifle back
08:35i've been meaning to get this fixed it rolls up every time someone walks by
08:44forgive me mr cassidy i i didn't mean to throw myself at you like that it's my pleasure miss matilda
08:52thank you i'll be sure and use that thing if you have to in the meantime i'll go over and have a
08:59talk with the sheriff i'll see you later
09:01how long have you been around here ever since winners was killed how long ago was that constable tom
09:24gorham seemed nervous and unassure of himself and his new job he was pretty upset when i told him
09:30heron's theory that breck was responsible for the attempted kidnapping he couldn't have had
09:35anything to do with it he's been right here in jail ever since the killing you say uh miss heron
09:41can't even identify the hold of men no she can't but i'd still like to talk to breck if you don't
09:46mind i don't mind i just don't see what good it would do there he is help yourself brett you better
09:52go out and keep an eye on sam and matilda huh sure
09:55plan was beginning to shape up in my mind and talking to breck was part of it he was a hard
10:03bitten thug with the disposition of a rattlesnake but he didn't impress me as being any too smart
10:09in fact i began to wonder how he'd figured out the plan to silence sam by kidnapping his sister
10:15naturally he denied sending any telegram or the attempt to snatch matilda he even had a few words
10:23of advice for me i don't know why you're butting in cassidy but if you're smart you'll mind your own
10:28business seeing a killer brought to justice is everybody's business i ain't no killer i was framed
10:36oh sure respectable school teachers always go around framing people like you
10:43get this guy out of here there's no law says i gotta talk to him i told you it wouldn't do you
10:49any good cassidy i'm afraid you're right i'll see you in court breck
10:55i think the sooner we get miss heron back to kansas city the better she'll never be safe around here
11:06i think so too but next stage doesn't leave until day after tomorrow oh but too many things can
11:12happen between now and then if she drives over to weston this afternoon she can get the stage from
11:16there good idea one of my boys could drive her over oh that won't be necessary she knows this
11:22country better than we do i'll go over and get her started right away
11:25you heard that didn't you i'm not deaf
11:41come in here you two
11:46what's up boys i'm going to give you two a chance to make up for that job you botched this morning
11:54cassidy was just here and miss heron is
11:57i told the herons and read what had happened in town
12:01matilda couldn't understand why tom gorham couldn't offer some protection
12:08sam explained that gorham was new on the job i think the only way to protect miss matilda is to
12:20jail breck's henchmen and the way to do that is to give him another chance to kidnap her
12:24trap that's right are you suggesting that matty be used as bait for these criminals
12:30no not matilda someone disguised as her hey that's a great idea i'm glad you like it sure
12:39miss matilda will be safe enough why we can uh we can uh we get some clothes we can uh we get
12:44hey wait a minute what's the matter if you think i'm going to dress up in women's clothes you're crazy
12:51i thought you liked the idea well i did to begin with i uh i uh i i
12:58you're not going to fast off me into wearing woman's clothes i won't do it i won't i won't
13:04i won't i won't do it
13:09oh hoppy the boys ever see me in this rig i'll have to shoot myself
13:15stop squirming mr conners i'm trying to sew i'm sorry man but it's awful tight
13:21you'll get used to it
13:23i ain't going to wear it long enough to get used to it there i'm afraid i've made the skirt too long
13:32uh let's see you walk around i can't even breathe what makes you think i can walk well try it anyway
13:38oh my did you break anything honey oh i'm all right i don't know about this outfit
13:50oh well it's held together all right but for goodness sake be more careful in the future
13:55take smaller steps and don't swing your arms so much look lady i agree to wear this rig but i'll
14:00be doggone if i'm going to learn manners to go with it well the buckboard's ready so we might as well get
14:05started
14:06oh my goodness now one more word out of you and the deal's all off
14:15red you better get started and remember i'll be there for the kidnapping yes and remember to hold

16:39Okay, she's gone far enough.
17:09Okay, she's gone.
17:39Okay, she's gone.
18:09Okay, she's gone.
18:16Okay, lady, you're coming with us.
18:37And this time, no funny business.
18:39Get your hands up, both of you.
18:41All right, drop your guns in the wagon.
18:43Cancel it.
18:43All right, let's go.
18:51Nasty surprise, eh, boys?
18:53Why, you dirty, dirty...
18:55Watch the language.
18:57I'll forget I'm a lady.
18:59Nice going, Matilda.
19:01All right, you two, turn around and head back to town.
19:04Come on, I got a few questions I want to ask you.
19:06Come on.
19:09Come on.
19:10Who is it?
19:32Tom Gorham.
19:35Oh, hello, Tom.
19:36Sorry, Sam.
19:37Oh, excuse the rifle, but I didn't want to take any chances.
19:41Come on in.
19:44Come on out, Matty. It's only the constable.
19:46Your sister? I thought she left for Weston.
19:49Oh, that was just a trick.
19:50Matty, I'd like you to meet Constable Gorham.
19:52How do you do?
19:53I know you, ma'am.
19:55What trick?
19:55Well, Mr. Cassidy figured that Breck's thugs would try to keep Matty from reaching Weston.
19:59So we sent Mr. Connors to Matty's place, dressed in her clothes.
20:03And Mr. Cassidy followed them at a distance.
20:05So if those ruffians try anything, they'll be sorry.
20:08Smart plan, wasn't it?
20:10Yeah, very smart.
20:11When did they leave?
20:12An hour ago.
20:13Tom, I don't know what we'd have done without Mr. Cassidy.
20:17And don't forget Mr. Connors.
20:18Oh, he made a great sacrifice.
20:20My goodness, you should have seen him.
20:22He was the strangest-looking female you ever saw.
20:27Listen.
20:29Hey, hold up here.
20:42Hey!
20:44They're back.
20:45They've got them.
20:46Oh, I knew they would.
20:48Stay where you are.
20:49What?
20:50If you don't do exactly as I say, I'll kill you.
20:53Samuel!
20:54Are you out of your mind?
20:55If it hadn't been for your friend Cassidy trying to be so smart, this wouldn't have happened.
20:59Now get over there.
21:00You're in league with Greg.
21:01That's right.
21:02If you try to warn Cassidy, I'll shoot.
21:05Hey, Red, pull up.
21:07Looks like the constable's horse.
21:08No use going on into town.
21:10Get off your horses.
21:11Get off your horses.
21:11Get off your horses.
21:13You having trouble, Matilda?
21:35You want to stay alive?
21:41Don't try any tricks.
21:44Come in.
21:48Well, Sam, they fell for the bait to hook, fly, and sink her.
21:50We won't have any more trouble with Breck.
21:52Raise your hands.
21:54Gora, what's the meaning of this?
21:55Shut up and reach.
21:56He's in with Breck.
21:57He had a gun in on us.
21:58I'll do the talking.
21:59Drop your guns.
22:02So you've been in with Breck all along, huh?
22:05That's right.
22:05Too bad you didn't find it out sooner.
22:08I hired Breck to kill Winters.
22:10Unfortunately, Sam was a witness.
22:12So I had to put Breck in jail to keep the folks from getting suspicious.
22:15But now Sam will change his story.
22:18And I'll run this town exactly the way I want.
22:20How about me and Harvey?
22:22We're taking you in the badlands where you'll disappear.
22:26Just how do you figure I'll do in that?
22:29Take him.
22:29Take him.
22:34Take him.
23:05Look, Harvey, I got this one.
23:07Yeah, you sure did.
23:09How are you, Matilda?
23:10I'm just fine.
23:11You know, that's the first fight I was ever in, and I really enjoyed it.
23:15You wouldn't have enjoyed it if Mr. Cassidy hadn't made Gorham make the first move.
23:21Did you know that blind was going up?
23:23I didn't think Sam would have time to fix it yet.
23:26Let's get him tied up and get him out of here.
23:29You out of got a rope, Sam?
23:31Come on, get on your feet.
23:34Well, Sam, I think your troubles are all over now.
23:42Good luck to you.
23:43We'll never be able to thank you and Red for all you've done for us.
23:46Oh, shucks.
23:47That weren't nothing.
23:47Oh, don't say that.
23:49Both of you were wonderful.
23:51And Mr. Cassidy.
23:52I know I'm an old fool, but I wonder if you'd mind terribly if I kissed you.
24:00Why, certainly not, Miss Matilda.
24:06Oh, there now, I feel a lot better.
24:10The pleasure was all mine, Miss Matilda.
24:12Goodbye, Miss Matilda.
24:17Goodbye, Miss.
24:21Goodbye, Sam.
24:22Goodbye.
24:22Goodbye, Matilda.
24:29Good luck to you.
24:30Goodbye.
24:31Goodbye.
24:31Goodbye.
24:31Hi there.
24:44You know, there are certain laws that are made to protect all of us, but we must do something
24:49to help about that protection.
24:51Well, here's a thought that might help prevent an accident.
24:54Help other people protect you.
24:59Now, to make it a little easier for you to remember those words, the first letter of each
25:03of those words spell the name of a man who thinks you're pretty wonderful and who doesn't
25:09want you to be hurt.
25:10So till next week, so long.
25:12In the meantime, be careful, won't you?
25:15There he goes, on his way, down the moonlet trail to where cowboys range.
25:26Hop along, Cassidy.
25:30Hop along, Cassidy.
25:33He'll return soon again.
25:36There's no use to say goodbye until then.
25:40Hop along, Cassidy.
25:44So long, hop along.
25:46Hop along.
