00:00I'll tell you what's happening to me right now as far as I can feel it, right?
00:04Yes.
00:05It's just this, I am going to really fight today the,
00:10I want to own it and I love it, so I'm going to buy it,
00:14relevant to nice little earner.
00:16Once it gets through your gate, you might not want to get out.
00:19I don't need to be coming out.
00:23I'm Henry Cole. That is comfy.
00:26And along with fellow fanatic Fuzz Townsend...
00:29That's a magnificent pair of choppers up there.
00:31..we're back on the hunt for vintage treasures in the nation's sheds.
00:36Look at this.
00:37We're going to buy them, fix them...
00:39That is fantastic.
00:41..and sell them for a tidy profit.
00:44Welcome to Shed and Buried.
00:51We're off to Southend in Essex.
00:54We are going to revisit Graham's.
01:00I know, I know.
01:01Now that, as I recall, was a fantastic shed.
01:04That's why we're revisiting, mate.
01:05Yeah.
01:06Do you know what I mean?
01:07Because he changes his stock more than he changes his shirt.
01:11Yeah, that's good.
01:12And there's plenty of opportunities.
01:14He's mainly, he's told me...
01:16Yeah.
01:17..the reason why we're going back...
01:18Yeah.
01:19..is because he's got rid of a lot of the cars...
01:21OK.
01:22..and he's getting more and more involved in motorcycle sales.
01:25Excellent.
01:26I seem to recall he had a thing for, um...
01:28He had a thing for Hondas, didn't he?
01:30Oh, yeah.
01:31Yeah, he did, yeah.
01:32He had one of those tents full of Hondas.
01:35That's right.
01:36He didn't want to let any of his Hondas go last year.
01:37No, well, that's OK.
01:38There's going to be plenty of other stuff.
01:40Yeah.
01:43Whether we do manage to get a hand on his Hondas,
01:46or whether he repels all borders, who knows?
01:49But Southend, here we come.
01:54Your collection just gets bigger and bigger, doesn't it?
01:57Yeah.
01:58Yeah.
01:59Are you sort of moving towards the motorcycles more in your...
02:01Yeah.
02:02..in your old age?
02:03Yeah, gone back to my youth.
02:04Have you?
02:05Just selling stuff that I was selling 30 years ago.
02:06Really?
02:07I seem to remember you like collecting Hondas.
02:10Now, are you letting any of those go yet?
02:12Those sort of like 60s and 70s?
02:14No.
02:15No, I didn't think so.
02:16Oh, don't be like that.
02:17Come on.
02:18They're really lovely.
02:19If you find something, you might be able to twist your arm.
02:20Yeah.
02:21You're smaller than me.
02:22Yeah?
02:23Yeah, you're right.
02:24He isn't, though.
02:25That's all right.
02:26So there's a few things that are out of bounds.
02:28Yeah.
02:29But we might be able to persuade you on a lot of bikes.
02:32Yeah.
02:33Yeah.
02:3475% of it, yeah.
02:35I'm OK, that's cool.
02:36All right, sounds great.
02:37There's plenty in there.
02:38Sounds great.
02:39But I just can't wait to get here.
02:40Shall we just get here?
02:41Yeah, come on.
02:42Shall we just get here?
02:43Well...
02:45Take me tea with me.
02:46Happy days.
02:47I'll see you in a bit.
02:48You'll let me know, yeah?
02:49You'll see you in a bit, all right, mate?
02:50Yeah, yeah.
02:51It's a cavern.
02:52It's a cavern, ram-packed full of automotive treasure.
03:04Isn't this a US spec?
03:06Oh, probably because there's the reflectors here.
03:09Oh, right, yeah.
03:10Look, I've got to tell you, mate, these Z650s, they were always the poor man's Z1.
03:15But I've got to tell you, man, over these last few years, they're coming of age.
03:23The Kawasaki Z650 was an air-cooled 120-mile-an-hour pocket rocket,
03:30which, though smaller than the Z1, never had an inferiority complex.
03:34It was a big hit in the US.
03:36Look at this.
03:39There's something quite sort of individual about them.
03:42Well, as you know, I didn't used to like the American spec bars.
03:45I didn't used to like high bars.
03:47But now I'm getting that little bit older.
03:50I like to be a tiny bit more upright.
03:53Hey, look, mate, high bars, an electric start as the future.
03:57Yes.
03:57OK, because it ain't going to get any better, baby.
04:00That's true.
04:01We're not suddenly going to grow a new leg that actually kicks things.
04:06It's not going to happen, right?
04:08No.
04:08And even if you get a new knee, it's going to absolutely mess it up.
04:12We're just decomposing.
04:13Yeah.
04:13OK, so what we've got to do is identify the bikes that will see us through into our 80s.
04:18Well, this is one of them, yeah.
04:19And that means an electric start.
04:20Yeah, this is definitely one.
04:23For something from the same period that's a little less powerful but just as refined,
04:29he's got a parakeet yellow Honda 404.
04:34Isn't that just utterly stunning?
04:36It is.
04:37That's a beautiful bike and a great layout, a great format.
04:41Four cylinders, for me, is really the pinnacle when it comes to a bike.
04:47At least four gives you that smoothness and gives you that power, even out of a 400.
04:53What a brilliant piece of engineering that is.
04:55The major problem with these is the bank of four carburetors.
04:59Once they're cleaned and beautifully sorted out, then they'll just run forever.
05:03He'd ride that to Scotland now, if the carbs were done.
05:08Graham's collection is not exclusively Japanese.
05:11He's got a Ducati Paso, a yellow Triton and a nice-looking Harley.
05:19But it's the Japanese bikes that we keep on coming back to because they bring back so many memories.
05:26I used to have one of these until Guy wrote it off by hitting a tree when I was at school.
05:31This is a lovely thing.
05:33So, hold on.
05:34DT 400.
05:36Yeah.
05:36Now, what age are we looking at here?
05:38The 70s.
05:39Yeah?
05:39You know?
05:40So, yeah, 74, 75.
05:42Yeah.
05:43Why is it not on its stand?
05:44Why is it leaning up against them?
05:45Perhaps there's something wrong with it.
05:47But I've got to tell you, man, these things, if they're not set up right...
05:50Oh, here we go.
05:51Yeah, look.
05:51What?
05:52Oh, that's broken.
05:53Yeah.
05:54All right.
05:54Well, if they're not set up right, they're really difficult to start, these things.
05:59Yeah.
06:00Oh, my God!
06:06Now, these are a formidable-looking bike.
06:09No, please.
06:10Let me just take it in.
06:11So, my favourite bike of all time.
06:13I have two of these at home.
06:15GSX-R 750.
06:16Probably the super bike that changed the world.
06:23Introduced in 1985, the GSX-R 750 revolutionised motorcycling, a production bike which was almost
06:32identical to Suzuki's race bikes.
06:35It was fast, light and rode as beautifully as it looked.
06:40This thing won everything when it came out.
06:44It was a total game-changer.
06:46Like the 750 Honda in 1968, in 1985, this came out and changed the world.
06:52This is on a C, but this isn't a British paint job.
06:55Can I just tell you, there's a fuel gauge.
06:58That is a Japanese import.
07:00Well, in that case, it's 54,000 kilometres, isn't it?
07:02Yeah, so what's that?
07:0330,000 miles?
07:0435,000.
07:05Yeah, I mean, it's still quite a lot of mileage, but at the same time, it's got a Yoshimura exhaust
07:09pipe, and it's got a Japanese original colour scheme that is very, very rare here.
07:15There's something about it that I think is great.
07:18It could take a bit of detailing, and yeah, it could take a bit of resto as well, but with
07:23careful detailing, you've got a very original bike here.
07:28Yeah.
07:28And with that, you've got value, I think, in the future.
07:32I like it a lot.
07:33Okay, we've got a bit of a knocked-up fairing, so it looks like it's had a bit of action.
07:37Yeah, we've got issues.
07:39There's a lot of issues, actually, fairing-wise.
07:41There's a big crack here.
07:43That's a shame, man.
07:44I think it's been sideways.
07:45I think it's been sideways.
07:46I think it's been on the floor as well.
07:48Yeah.
07:48So a thoroughbred, but one that's got obvious issues, and for something even bigger and equally
07:56iconic, you couldn't get better than this huge Honda.
08:02CBX, six-cylinder.
08:04Yeah.
08:04This is the Z model.
08:06But they are a monster of a bike, aren't they?
08:08They are.
08:08Six-cylinders on a bike is an incredible feat, really, isn't it?
08:12And rare.
08:13Yeah.
08:14Once this is running, oh, my God, the smoothness of the engine is a delight.
08:19I can believe it.
08:20The power delivery is divine.
08:21Is this a Henry bike?
08:23Yeah, of course it is.
08:23Or is it a SPQR?
08:25It's a Henry bike.
08:26Yeah.
08:27We do need to find ourselves a nice little earner, though.
08:31So is it going to be a Kawasaki, a Honda, a Suzuki, or even...
08:36I'll tell you what, looking at that F7, that is lovely.
08:40It looks good enough to be in somebody's collection, doesn't it?
08:43Oh, yes.
08:43Yeah.
08:44Okay, so look, we've got the F7, 750.
08:46We've got the slab side out there.
08:48We've got the yellow 404.
08:50Yeah.
08:51Should we go and see where else?
08:51Yeah.
08:52Okay, let's get some prices.
08:53Come on.
08:53You never know.
08:54Might be able to afford more than you know.
09:01Do you know what?
09:02I even thought about buying the Ducati Pasto.
09:05That's how confused I am.
09:07Really?
09:07I really don't know where to start.
09:11So the thing that has caught my eye is that little Honda 404, the yellow one.
09:16Oh, yeah.
09:16Yeah.
09:17Yeah.
09:17So is that for sale?
09:19Yeah.
09:19Yeah.
09:20That's the sales one.
09:21Yeah.
09:21What sort of price would you like for that?
09:24It's got to be close to 5K.
09:26What about the Gixxer, which does need a little bit of work?
09:28Yeah, no, that.
09:29Oh, the slab.
09:30That is a little bit.
09:31Yeah, mint ones of those, as you know, they're $6,000, $7,000, $3,000, running, riding, need
09:40a little bit of peddling.
09:41That CBX seems to be on its own.
09:43Yeah, it's not for sale.
09:44Yeah, I thought it was much.
09:46That DT400 over there.
09:48Yeah.
09:49What's the damage on that?
09:51It does need the sidestand repair.
09:52I was going to say it's got a little issue with that.
09:54That's why it's leaning up against that part, but because of that, $3,000.
09:59And the FZ 750?
10:02Yeah, very rare.
10:042,700 quid.
10:06There's just so much to choose from.
10:09Two and a half for that.
10:112,750.
10:13Cheapest slab side you're ever going to buy.
10:14We're down in Essex with Graham and his huge collection of Japanese superbikes.
10:32He wants three grand for a slightly troubled GSXR slabby, but can we get it for less?
10:402,750.
10:41Cheapest slab side you're ever going to buy.
10:442,700.
10:44Yeah.
10:47Quickly, before I change your mind.
10:48Go on then, Graham.
10:49There we go.
10:50Brilliant.
10:51All right, mate, look, it is a very cheap slabby, you're right.
10:53It is, yeah.
10:54I mean, you know, look, man, I think we can do some cosmetics on it and sort it out and
10:59have it as a rolling restoration for someone to go next, do you know what I mean?
11:02Yes, exactly.
11:03What a lovely time.
11:04Yeah, can we come again?
11:05Yeah.
11:06Bring your checkbook, you can come every time.
11:11Next day, it's show and sulk time.
11:13You're coming out very sheepishly.
11:20Why?
11:21What would you imagine a doghouse to look like?
11:24Because I'll tell you what, mate, I'm in it.
11:26This is a lovely Gixxer.
11:28It is.
11:28That's the good news.
11:30Yes.
11:30The bad news is that fairing is in quite a bad state of repair.
11:35Like there.
11:36Oh, yeah, and the screen's broken.
11:38I didn't tie it down very well in the van.
11:42Ah.
11:42That's why I'm in the doghouse.
11:43Right.
11:44It hasn't broken the levers.
11:45I know.
11:46I don't know quite how it did it, but I opened the back of the van and it's on its side.
11:50That's good.
11:50No, did we have it?
11:52Well, this side's broken anyway, isn't it?
11:53So we've just got to fix the whole bearing rather than just half of it.
11:55OK, all right, all right, all right.
11:56Well, look, thank you for being so understanding, but I have to tell you, mate, I think you could
12:00describe it.
12:01I think I might be flagellating myself emotionally.
12:04Before we do anything, we should see if we can get it running.
12:07And also, it should sound an absolute dream.
12:11Yes.
12:11Shouldn't it?
12:11Yes.
12:14After a sarni and a cup of scorch, we get the slabby into the shed.
12:20Right, let's put some fuel in.
12:21Don't put too much in, in case it goes everywhere.
12:27Are you going to stand on that and pour fuel?
12:29Don't fall off and do your ankles, break your legs, knock the bike over.
12:36Say where now?
12:36Is it coming out the bottom?
12:39Not yet.
12:40So far, so good.
12:42Right, ready?
12:43Yeah.
12:46Come on, baby.
12:47It runs, just about, but it's not happy.
12:58Yeah.
12:58Sounds very much like a blocked pilot jet, doesn't it?
13:00It does sound like that.
13:01When you twist the twist grip, it dies, which is a pilot jet block.
13:05But we don't know if we've got fuel flow to the carbs.
13:08We need to eliminate that first before we condemn pilot jets.
13:11OK, all right.
13:15Alan drains the first carb.
13:18It's a bit yellow, isn't it?
13:19It must be the old fuel in the carbs.
13:21Yeah.
13:21It's going white now, which is a new fuel, so we know it's definitely flowing.
13:24Yeah, great.
13:27The other possibility is a gunked-up spark plug.
13:33One of the cylinders sounds particularly feeble.
13:36Just warming up the spark plug to try and burn off some of the carbon, because the carbon
13:44is causing a short, so it's sparking down the side of the electrode rather than between
13:47the two gaps.
13:48So I'm just trying to recover this spark plug by heating up with a blowtorch, and the
13:52electrode gets red-hot and burns off all the carbon, and hopefully, it clears the problem.
14:02That's it, Al.
14:02Perfect.
14:03That's all right.
14:03It's working.
14:04Yeah, perfect.
14:06So hopefully, that gunked plug might be our root cause.
14:18Perfect.
14:19Hey, Idle.
14:25Yes!
14:25That is rideable.
14:27All right, they are.
14:28That's very good.
14:29Can I say one other thing?
14:30That's mildly exciting.
14:32It was.
14:32I'm mildly excited, which is probably the first time today.
14:36But that ain't the only good news.
14:39Just had a little rummage.
14:40This is from that other Gixxar that we restored.
14:42And this one's new, but it was just black, rather than I wanted the clear one.
14:47But that works quite nicely, no?
14:48Straight on, yeah.
14:49That fits.
14:49So that's lovely.
14:50So that's great.
14:51We don't have to buy one of them.
14:52No.
14:52That's so good as well, isn't it?
14:53So do you think we need to take the fairing and stuff off?
14:56Or should we just run it?
14:57I think we should.
14:58I think we should get it up and running and riding.
15:00And then take the fairing and whatever else body work off.
15:04And do whatever.
15:04Take the tank off and drain the fuel out.
15:06Happy days, man.
15:07That's it.
15:10Next day, it's still a little inclement, so skid starts on the body work.
15:15We've got to obviously replace the screen, but also I want to try and repair this crack in the fairing.
15:22So I'm actually going to remove the fairing, remove the screen, glue the crack, bolt the screen back on, and hopefully fit it on again.
15:31What could possibly go wrong?
15:36Motorcycle fairings are a relatively recent innovation, only becoming commonplace after World War II.
15:43Initially, they were steel or alley, before they went plastic in the 1970s.
15:51Right, the next major job on this is to glue this split together.
15:56First of all, I'm going to put this powder in into the crack, and then I'm going to drip the glue in.
16:01And the second it hits this, it more or less goes off straight away.
16:07Skid's using Cubond, a two-part super glue, which is both strong and flexible.
16:13Do you know what? That looks quite strong.
16:16I think we'll just let that go off. I might put a bit more of the grey on.
16:20This just hardens it, and you're just building up layers.
16:23As soon as this contacts the other stuff, it goes like rock.
16:27I may upset Henry by using the whole tube, but if it works, it's a cheap fix.
16:32That doesn't look bad, and if it is as strong as everyone says, that'll do.
16:43With our slabby capable of over 140 miles an hour, a windscreen is pretty much a necessity.
16:49After a bit of a battle, that is back on, and it is glued together.
16:58So it's a late night, I'm going home.
17:03Next day, Skid reveals the fruits of his labour.
17:06He's repaired the front fairing, but left the side panels off.
17:10I've had the fairing off, I've glued it back together here, fitted new well nuts, and the new screen you had.
17:19He's been very industrious, hasn't he?
17:20It's all done. Look, it's rock solid.
17:23I'll tell you what, for the first time in a very long time, we've got something right.
17:28Mainly because I have been on the phone to Chopper Roy.
17:31Chopsicle says, don't worry about the fairing, because he'd like to buy it with the fairing to be done by the next owner.
17:39You see what I mean?
17:40Save him a couple of quid on the purchase.
17:42Exactly.
17:43I quite like them like this without the fairing anyway, do you know that?
17:46Well, I mean, I've seen them naked. I mean, why not?
17:48Very popular back in the day.
17:50So, look, I've agreed with him a price, right, of three, two.
17:54Happy days.
17:55So, quick, 500 quid, mate.
17:56Yeah, lovely.
17:57We don't have to send the fairing off, and the body panels, and all that kind of stuff.
18:01He'll take those.
18:02Okay, so look, Roy's going to come over, but before he comes, you know, to have a look at his goods, because he's only seen a photo of it.
18:08Yeah.
18:08I think we should take it out for a little light.
18:11That's not a good idea.
18:12How do you think?
18:13Definitely.
18:16And we're away.
18:21Alan's on his Honda Pan-European.
18:24Skid's on a Kawasaki GT-R Fowl.
18:27And I'm sitting pretty on our new Slavvy.
18:34The noise is sublime.
18:39Immediately just brings me straight back to being 21 again.
18:42Blimey, do you know what?
18:45It's 40 years.
18:4840 years!
18:49And I'm still riding, and I'm still alive, and I've still got some friends.
18:54So, that's got to be good, right?
18:56The Slavvy was the first in a long line of race replicas, inspired by Suzuki's race-winning XR41.
19:07When you get onto a faster road, you can really feel the power.
19:10Oh, God, yeah, they're opening her up now.
19:20Fantastic.
19:21The Slavvy remains one of the great sleds of the 1980s.
19:33The only problem with this ride-out, it's just too short.
19:46Mate, what a lovely ride.
19:48Sounds nice following you.
19:50It's not too loud.
19:50It just gave me that little bit of a lift that I needed this morning.
19:55I mean, that's what motorcycling is all about.
19:57Mate, you could do some miles on that right now.
19:59And for 3,200 quid, Chopper Roy's in clover, man.
20:03Well, I think he is, yeah.
20:04There's got to be room in it.
20:05It's round faultlessly, hasn't it?
20:06There's no smoke, no rattles.
20:08It's lovely.
20:09It's such a lovely thing.
20:13Next day, the man himself arrives.
20:18Now, Chops,
20:18I do worry when we do a deal on the phone together, right,
20:22that it's not quite what you want.
20:24But anyway, look, there it is, languishing in the sunshine.
20:26Hey, boys, Chops is here.
20:32Does sound nice because it's got the Yoshi Muir on it.
20:35There is a bit of repair needed.
20:46Yeah, no, there's no point, is there?
20:47But there is no point.
20:48The new owner can do that.
20:50Or, if they want to keep this paint job,
20:54then obviously they can have this repaired
20:56and then just re-spray the whole thing.
20:58But I think it's nice sort of naked, you know?
21:00I like them like this with the fairing on
21:02without the lowers because in the summer,
21:04it's nice not having the lowers.
21:06Yeah, see the engine as well, can't you?
21:07Which is nice.
21:07See the engine, yeah?
21:08I'd like just the man for this.
21:10There'd be no point mending them.
21:11All right, OK, mate.
21:12OK.
21:13Well, look, as we agreed, 3-2.
21:15Yeah, yeah, happy.
21:16Very happy.
21:17Pleased at that.
21:17Very nice.
21:18Yeah, shake hands.
21:19Deal's a deal.
21:20Thank you, boys.
21:20Boy, that's really nice.
21:21So, look, I've got to tell you, mate,
21:22seeing as you're part of the firm anyway,
21:24we bought it for 2-7.
21:25Yeah.
21:26Yeah, so I've made 500 quid on it.
21:27Yeah, happy.
21:28Yeah?
21:29Everyone's happy.
21:30Everyone's happy.
21:30Everyone's happy.
21:31Everyone's up for a nice little earner.
21:33Thank you, though.
