00:14guys are you guys both there this morning yeah I'm here Keegan yeah hi guys how we doing Keegan
00:21how are you I'm doing great man um I'm out here at the Grove practicing a little bit um we were
00:28in the TGL yesterday for our first practice and we're we're fired up to we're gonna we're gonna
00:33get it done this year this is gonna be the year I think did you guys uh not to call you out right
00:38away but went winless last year I think am I right about that yeah we did it was it was a tough year
00:44we you know we we just went out and got beat the guys just beat us but we we got a better
00:48like uh strategy this year we got a better routine that we're going to be in we got a little more
00:54strategy with our hammers and you know we're going to be we're going to be tough to beat this year
00:57Keegan Rory made an announcement of some fresh blood for Boston Common coming this week what does
01:03Michael Thorbjornson do for you guys well it's so great that he's a local kid from Boston uh you know
01:10he's a young player with a ton of potential hits it really far he kind of brings a little new blood
01:16into our into our group I was in there with him yesterday and he's really excited to be on the team
01:21and to you know make his TGL debut I think he can really help us
01:24Mark is it uh did I hear that Noah Kahn is an investor in this group I don't know if I'm allowed
01:29to say that or not or you're allowed to say it he he is uh as is uh Niall Horan as well they're uh
01:38both incredibly passionate golfers and obviously Noah being from Vermont has a great New England
01:44connection and a connection to Keegan and Niall being from uh Ireland has a great connection to
01:50to Rory so they've been incredible ambassadors for our brand is there any truth to the rumor that
01:55this interview is a return for Greg's investment no I'm not I'm not I would maybe look at it okay I
02:02don't know what I don't know what's uh what's a point gonna run me over there maybe Keegan can get
02:06me a deal um Keegan are are you uh you probably you probably never end up being over something like
02:17the uh Ryder Cup but how are you how are you dealing with that these days yeah I mean listen
02:22it's been it's been a tough time it's been a tough couple months since the Ryder Cup um you know this
02:28is something that sticks with you win or lose for the rest of your life um and you know that going in
02:33that you know the glory of winning is so extreme but the the pain of losing is it's going to be with
02:39me forever um and you know but I've been I've been back practicing getting back going for the year
02:44and that that's been nice to get back into a routine and get back to what I love to do and
02:48um you know my my best revenge can be go out there and have a great year and and uh win some
02:53tournaments well Wiggy knows Wiggy won a Super Bowl here and then he lost one so Wiggy you know the
02:59pain of that yeah I know the pain of that and I would ask Keegan because you know I'm not very good
03:04at golf is there a difference from you know better than shine yeah I am better but everybody's better
03:09than shine let's be honest and he plays all the time is there a difference from playing indoors
03:14to outdoors kind of like for you guys who are professionals yeah it's everything's different
03:20it's it's you know it takes a lot of getting used to that's why we that's why we have to get into the
03:25simulator and and really like get comfortable feel it's really strange to stand and hit into a screen
03:31that's so far away you know just you're you're you're it's really like playing a video game but when
03:35you hit a good shot and you hit hit what you're looking for it goes exactly where you're looking
03:40it's just the little things like chipping off astroturf seeing how the green reacts uh chipping
03:45but really getting used to the course and getting to know okay this is a dog like left I can cover
03:50that bunker but I I gotta aim for the right on the screen and just getting used to that and um you
03:56know when you hit a good shot it does what you what you did what you wanted it to do what is um
04:00obviously tiger has been a huge part of the success that you guys have had when it comes to
04:05tgl so far you hear him speak lately and it it sounds to me like he wants to compete again and
04:14and play competitively like what when you hear him speak what what is your guess at at what tiger
04:20wants to do well I know that tiger loves competing and loves playing golf and like all he wants to do
04:28is get back and play some tournaments I think he will I think he's motivated I mean I just saw him
04:33he's in incredible shape I mean incredible shape I I don't know how he can have these surgeries just
04:38like like he just is you feel solid as a rock so I think I think his plan is to come back and play
04:43some tournaments at some point I mean we all like we all really want him out here it helps us all but
04:49also as you know a fan of his and you know one of my heroes I love seeing him out hitting balls
04:55being paired with him in tournament is still such a such a thrill um and having him out there and playing
05:00on the tour and tgl is just it's only great for for all areas for for everybody could he win I mean
05:06do you feel like he could win a tournament uh at this yeah yeah he's I mean this thing about tiger
05:12woods he all he's got to do is just get him physic get his body physically able to walk 18 holes his
05:18body's been through a lot and you know for us you know there's the 18 holes that we play for the
05:24tournament or the 72 holes but also the practice rounds and the warming up and the in the you know
05:29the the practice after the rounds it's it's wearing on your body but when you've had so many surgeries
05:35it's tough so I mean I think his biggest hurdle isn't actually the golf it's just getting his body
05:40in shape to to be able to compete for 72 holes Keegan I've always had this question because I'm fascinated
05:47by the story of Jim Nance and that I don't know if you've ever had breakfast with Jim Nance but
05:52the rumor is that he carries a picture of a charred and well-done piece of toast and shows it to the
06:00server so that the toast is properly put on the plate have you ever seen him do that in action
06:05so I've never seen it personally but I've heard of this too and uh one thing about Jim Nance is he's
06:12exactly how you think he's gonna be he talks like you could hear his voice from across the room
06:16um and uh he's just the the greatest guy and like he could I've seen videos where people run up on him
06:23and they're like hey can you uh commentate my shot and you it's just unbelievable he's the best guy but
06:28I've heard the toast thing and so I believe it so Mark from the business side of things not not only
06:33Boston Common wise but but Lee it's very difficult to introduce something new like this when it comes to
06:39professional sports and how are you guys doing overall on the business side of things league wise
06:44yeah you know the league we're heading into our second season and year one by all accounts was a
06:52overwhelming success I mean the the you know this is primarily a made for tv event and the television
06:58ratings were really strong and one of the things that was really interesting and the league was
07:02anticipating was that it would attract a much younger audience and bring a new new audience to the game of golf
07:08and that's exactly what happened in fact you know the average age of somebody that watched the TGL match
07:14was you know like 12 or 13 years younger than one that worth watches a PGA tour match so it was it was
07:21very successful from that standpoint and most importantly and Keegan can attest to this the players really
07:26embraced it and enjoyed it and gives them the opportunity to bring out their personality and let the public see
07:32them in a different light so we're we have a great foundation to build off of our our mentor and
07:38boss Larry Lucchino had an expression if something isn't broken let's make it better so that's the
07:43approach that we've been taking at the league level and certainly with Boston climbing golf
07:47Keegan Texter wants me to ask you can only play one course in New England what is it
07:52and don't say the country club oh the country club okay I I I you know growing up in New England like
07:58the country club was always this sort of you know upheld above everybody every other course and I never
08:06ever got to play it until I played in the US Open there and ever since I've played there and I got I
08:13went back once just for a casual round it's just so spectacular everything about it the the clubhouse
08:19the yellow clubhouse the history there you go into the locker rooms old school locker room with the
08:23metal lockers and you know it was always held to this you know higher standard growing up in New
08:28England and when I got to actually go experience it it surpassed everything I thought about it it was just
08:33incredible I don't know if you know this or not but there is a dark cloud hanging over our state
08:37because uh Leo Leo J Martin has been determined to be the worst course in the United States of America
08:44now they are putting they're putting five million into it but when it comes to a moonshot my question
08:51for you as a service to the people of Massachusetts and the world would you if would you participate in
08:58in helping them with a redesign over there or could yeah I would love that yeah I'm in all right so if
09:05they're listening on the schneid here on the on the donut you would you would help them I thought
09:10you're going to ask him if he would show up for the numbnuts invitation well yeah we would invite you
09:14to our numbnuts invitational uh I'm gonna I'm gonna pass on that thanks though man's busy I mean I
09:22I mean it's a granite links and that's a beautiful uh golf course would you yeah we we all have our
09:28we all have our limits next let me ask you this if you had your brother's next Ryder Cup just
09:34thinking about it ahead of time would you rather play or or would you rather uh run the whole show
09:39again so I get that question basically every day of my life now and I I I it's such a strange
09:47feeling because you know I my real job is I'm a player you know I I never asked to be a captain
09:54I never campaigned these things that you campaign for them you work for them you build up for years
09:59as a vice captain I know this was never on my radar so I never I when I got the call to be Ryder Cup
10:04captain that was the first I had heard of it so this was never something that I even imagined I'd ever
10:08get to do but now that I've done it you know I I have this in lost I have this like hole in my
10:15soul really and um I don't know if playing would would do it but I I want to play again you know
10:22my goal is to play on these teams um but certainly I would never pass up the opportunity to do it
10:27again it was the highlight of my life um it's so it's so strange to love something so much and have
10:33it really be like the darkest time as well so it's an interesting thing I don't know I I some days
10:39I'm like you're a player go play and then some days I think to myself gosh it'd be great to try
10:44that again but you know ultimately this isn't up to me and uh you know someday maybe I'll get
10:49another shot but I I doubt that I will it's so interesting to hear you say it that way so I I
10:54did you really feel like the you know the weight of the entire country was on your shoulders or or
11:01whatever when when it came yeah I did I did yeah I I was really I didn't anticipate the support
11:10in the you know I I had this epiphany going middle of last year that you know I'm going through
11:17something that maybe no one ever has experienced and that being the Ryder Cup captain but also being
11:23one of the best players in the world and contending to win and winning tournaments and majors and uh
11:28you know I didn't I didn't I don't know why but it never crossed my mind the support that I was
11:32going to get on the golf course but also you know going to restaurants or get pumping gas and people
11:38cheering for USA I didn't I don't know why I never like put the two and two together but um it was
11:44really spectacular it was really special some some of my happiest moments of my life and some of the
11:49proudest that Sunday obviously we'll replay it in our head over and over again but it was so close
11:56to being one of the great moments in the history of American sports with that comeback that almost was
12:02yeah it was uh I'll tell you the you know the night before I referenced I was at the 28-3 Patriot
12:12Falcon game I was at the at the game with my wife and you know I described to them what it was like
12:18to watch it and you know how everything had to happen in this exact order for them to win and it did
12:25and you know that was sort of my message to the team and also you know playing for your country and
12:29the pride and how what it would be like to tell your 16 year old self even if you were way down
12:34that you had this opportunity and these guys went to bed they thought they were going to win
12:40and I'm not just saying that and I was even shocked with us all of us captains were shocked at their
12:47their demeanor because I've been on a team that was way down and we did not have that mentality we were
12:52like pissed and these guys went went to bed players and caddies we're going to win this and they meant it
12:58and I thought these guys this this is crazy like I can't believe they actually you know the message
13:03worked but you know they they went out there and did what they you know they they played great and
13:10you know the Europe Europe made so many pots the first two days and you know it's impossible to keep
13:15putting at that level and um it was close it was close so there was a second there I never let my mind
13:21get that we were going to win but there was a second there late in the day I was like holy cow this might
13:25happen speaking of your beloved Patriots you think they get to the Super Bowl this season
13:29geez I I think they could I mean that I I think that not getting the one seed is going to make
13:36things a lot tougher I wouldn't I wouldn't it just seems like the Patriots have a lot of trouble
13:41going to Denver that late in the year but um I I'm not I don't think the Patriots are scared of
13:46Denver I think they can beat anybody I think you know getting Milton Williams back and some of the
13:51guys that are that are hurt in the playoffs they're a different team and uh I I'll say I
13:56wouldn't want to play the Patriots I certainly wouldn't want to do that yeah all right um so uh
14:02those who we talked a lot about TGL last season on the show uh we are fans and when can we see you
14:09guys in action next yeah we're our first match is January 2nd and uh I can I can just promise to
14:17tell the people of Boston and people of New England like we're going to go out there this
14:21year this means a lot to us and we're going to go out there we're going to we're going to do
14:24everything we can to win this whole thing we're not we're not going out there to win the match or
14:28whatever we're going out there to win you know anytime you know you you know for me personally and
14:33now Michael uh anytime you playing with your city and your region on your chest or you're playing for
14:40your your where you're from means a lot and just know when you're watching that this means a lot
14:44to us and we're going to go out there and do everything we can to win this whole thing yeah
