00:00I don't think there's any difference when it comes to Avatar and the audience.
00:03I think, hopefully we've told a story that is universal.
00:06The story is about connecting, and how we're all connected on this planet.
00:11Hopefully that's a theme that resonates, and maybe that's why when I travel around the world,
00:15it doesn't matter where I am, be it Milan, Australia, America, Indonesia, anywhere.
00:21Someone has either seen or been affected by Avatar, and you hope that we can continue that connection.
00:27I think the more complex, the more complicated a character is, the wider the palette, the more expensive the colors one can bring to a character,
00:39the more interesting it is for an actor to play, as well as for an audience, I think.
00:46If I have any desire, it would be that I don't want to be easy to love, and I don't want to be easy to hate.
00:54Do you think they love him now?
00:57Well, I don't know if they love him, and that's not something that I'm necessarily, or he is necessarily looking for.
01:05But I think that he does present a certain level of charisma, and he definitely has always had some characteristics that are very laudable.
01:18He's a very fine leader in his own way.
01:21He leads from the front, he displays courage, he's good to his people, you know, he's very loyal to his own people.
01:29So these are qualities that are not to be dismissed.
01:33Thank you so much.
01:34You're more than welcome.
01:35We were talking about female empowerment this morning in the press conference, which is what he mentioned, and I think it's so cool.
01:40We know we not only have female warriors that are on the so-called good side, but also on the so-called bad side.
01:45I think people will be so excited to be introduced to this new clan, the Ash, and this new female villain, Varong.
01:52How can something so Varong feel so Varite has been our catchphrase for her, because that is who she is.
01:58You literally hate to love her, because you love to hate her.
02:02It's all of these kind of wrapped up, tangled things, because she's a super cool character.
02:08And when she's on the screen, I can't take my eyes off of her.
02:11At the same time as an actor and a person, I loved working with Una Chaplin, who plays Varong.
02:16She is an incredible actress, the way she transitions into Varong.
02:20She goes from being the shoulder to cry on, to as Varong in the scene, being the person that makes you cry.
02:25So I really treasure Una, all the memories I have with her.
02:29I cannot wait for our fans to experience Varong and her wrath, because it's insane.
02:35Thank you so much.
02:36Thank you so much.
02:38I did two years of performance capture, so I worked with the cast.
02:41It was very, you know, me and them, fully performance capture.
02:45And then I went to New Zealand to basically do all my live action stuff.
02:51So instead of, like, being in a gray volume, we actually were on a set.
02:55We actually were on a stage, and there was, like, real moss and grass and, like, tree lumps for me to, like, do parkour over.
03:02And I had, you know, a wig on and the loincloth.
03:04So I think the biggest difference for me was just that I had no actor to act to, really, besides the troupe.
03:10But they were amazing.
03:11But I basically had to act off their performances that they had done years ago.
03:16So I was kind of acting to, like, puppets and tennis balls a lot.
03:19So, you know, it definitely builds your imagination, I would say.
03:23And you were cold because I was like this in the forest.
03:26Yeah.
03:27Almost naked.
03:28Yeah.
03:28Sorry for the question, but...
03:30Did you really tell people to say they are, like, out and about progressive life?
03:36Oh, I was cold, like, every day.
03:38But I think you learn to be...
03:41You learn to deal with the cold, for sure.
03:43I mean, I feel like your body...
03:45Human bodies are amazing because they are adaptable.
03:48And as soon as my body realized it was in a cold environment every day,
03:51for some reason I think I just started to overheat in a good way.
03:54And then, you know, so I just kind of ran hotter.
03:56And I think I just...
03:57Fashion time.
03:58I think I just...
03:58Thank you.
03:59Yeah, I think I got used to it.
04:00Thank you so much.
04:01Thank you so much.
04:02When we talk about how Avatar, the Avatar saga is something like no other film,
04:08we're not just talking about the technical advances.
04:11That's really Jim's job.
04:14That's what he does.
04:15Really what makes this a film like no other is the emotional connection.
04:19We have so much time to spend with our characters,
04:22and they feel more real than some other films.
04:25You'll see, and I'm really excited for audiences to come back and see
04:30what happens when the Na'vi clans experience destruction.
04:36This morning we heard you giving a passionate defense of the experience of movies in cinema
04:42for your generation.
04:44You said, for us, James Cameron is Avatar.
04:46So I want to ask you, as a young person,
04:50how it is to live movies in this way?
04:54Do you think it's the future, even for Gen Z and your generation?
04:58I think it's important that directors and creatives are constantly breaking boundaries
05:03and starting opening new doors and creating stories that we've never seen before.
05:09This earth, we've been here for a very long time,
05:12and there are still more stories to be told.
05:14Hollywood is not over.
05:16It's just about giving the opportunity to the right people,
05:20and Jim continues to do that with the people that he casts.
05:22I love being around so many people of color on set,
05:26in front of the camera and behind the camera.
05:29And what I love so much about the Avatar saga, really,
05:32is that we get to see so many different stories being told
05:36in this vast, vast film that is just mind-blowing.
05:42It's truly, truly special.
05:44Thank you so much.
05:45Thank you, thank you.
