Filmmaker Rob Reiner's son charged with murder in parents' slaying

The younger son of Hollywood filmmaker and political activist Rob Reiner was formally charged on Tuesday (Dec 16) with first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of his parents, who were found slain in their Los Angeles home over the weekend.  Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested several hours after the bodies of his father, actor-director Rob Reiner, 78, and mother, photographer-producer Michele Reiner, 70, were discovered on Sunday afternoon in the couple's house in the affluent west LA neighborhood of Brentwood. 00:05Today I'm here to announce that our office will be filing charges against Nick Reiner,

00:10who was accused of killing his parents, actor-director Rob Reiner, and photographer-producer Michelle Singer Reiner.

00:18These charges will be two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders.

00:25He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife.

00:34These charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.

00:43No decision at this point has been made with respect to the death penalty.

00:47On December 14, 2025, LAPD officers from our West Los Angeles Division responded to a death investigation

00:55at the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue, which is in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles.

01:03Upon entering the residence, they discovered the bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Reiner.

01:07Detectives from our Robbery Homicide Division Homicide Special Section immediately initiated a comprehensive investigation.

01:14He was arrested in a public area, in the Exposition Park area, near the University of Southern California campus.

01:22He was approached by the officers, and he was arrested without incident.
