00:00It's pretty hard to be this successful on social media.
00:03If you could speak directly to Elon Musk, what would you say?
00:06F*** off.
00:07So let me do what she would never do, which is to be an adult in this room.
00:12These are our national secrets.
00:14Looks like in the s*** to me.
00:16But can it translate into a U.S. Senate seat?
00:19Jasmine Crockett is betting on it.
00:21But I think she'll need to do a lot more to win in Texas.
00:24That's because a Democrat hasn't been elected to the Senate there since 1988.
00:28Now Crockett's a former public defender from Dallas.
00:32And she could face one of the most powerful Republicans in the Senate, John Cornyn.
00:36But first, she must win in her own primary over Democrat James Tallarico,
00:40a Presbyterian seminarian and state legislator who has 1.5 million TikTok followers.
00:47Crockett, by comparison, has 2.2 million followers.
00:51And they come to see what's become known as the Crockett clap back.
00:55I think your fake eyelashes are messing up.
00:57If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody's bleach-blonde, bad-built,
01:05butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?
01:08A what now?
01:10Crockett's campaign even launched a t-shirt collection and moved to trademark the phrase.
01:15That's why she thinks she can, quote,
01:17expand the electorate and get people motivated to vote who don't normally participate in the process.
01:23But politicians have tried that in Texas before.
01:26Remember Beto O'Rourke?
01:27Then again, building a campaign that can greatly increase turnout isn't impossible?
01:33Just ask Stacey Abrams in Georgia.
01:35Crockett also needs to attract Texas voters in unprecedented ways for a liberal Democrat.
01:41And that's where her rhetoric will cause her problems.
01:45She's called conservatives inherently violent and suggested Trump's Latino supporters have a, quote,
01:51slave mentality.
01:53That's why GOP leaders think she'll be an easier target than Tallarico,
01:57who showed a big potential for appealing to a wider swath of voters while on the Joe Rogan show.
02:04If Crockett continues to focus on TikTok and liberal voters,
02:07she could energize the base in a state where gerrymandering has unleashed some pretty competitive races.
02:14But to actually win, she'll have to show that she can do more than go viral.
