Liverpool City Council is urging households to check revised bin collection dates over the Christmas and New Year period, as services shift by several days. The changes affect every part of the city and are designed to keep waste moving during one of the busiest times of year.

00:00If you're planning your Christmas clear-out or working out when to put the bins out,
00:04Liverpool City Council says it's worth checking twice this year.
00:08Revised bin collection services are in place across the city over the Christmas and New Year period,
00:13with changes starting from Christmas Day.
00:16Stickers have already been placed on bins to alert residents,
00:19but the council says dates will be different for everyone.
00:23All collections are being moved back by between one and four days.
00:26To manage the extra demand, refuse crews will also be working across three Saturdays after Christmas
00:32to make sure waste is collected as early as possible.
00:35Households with food waste collections are being advised to continue putting their caddy out
00:40alongside their purple and blue bins as normal on their revised collection day.
00:46Liverpool City Council says normal bin services will resume on Monday 19th January 2026.
00:53Residents can check their next collection date by entering their postcode
00:56on the council's website or by using the full list of revised dates published by the local authority.
01:02The council is also encouraging people to recycle as much as they can over the festive period.
01:07Dry recyclables should be placed loose into blue bins, including plastic bottles,
01:11glass jars and bottles, paper and crushed cardboard.
01:14Food waste should not go into the blue bin and bottles and jars should be rinsed first.
01:18For households with excess waste, Liverpool's household waste recycling centres do remain available.
01:25The sites at Otterspool and Old Swan are open from eight in the morning until five in the afternoon
01:29on all days except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
01:34Meanwhile, green bin collections for garden waste are suspended over winter
