00:00Good evening, I'm Ais Martinez and this is PTV News Now.
00:05Our top story tonight, first off, relief is finally in sight for thousands of overseas Filipino workers
00:12as the government moves to release long-delayed balikbayin boxes just in time for Christmas.
00:18President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced that around 130,000 balikbayin boxes will be returned
00:25to their rightful owners before Christmas.
00:27During the inauguration of new facilities at Mino Aquino International Airport Terminal 3,
00:33he revealed that these balikbayin boxes, which had been left high and dry at the Bureau of Customs
00:38for nearly a year, were due to unpaid fees by the shipping companies.
00:42The boxes sent by overseas Filipino workers were stuck in limbo because of this issue.
00:47The chief executive promised that the government would pull out all the stops
00:51to ensure the speedy release of the boxes, emphasizing they were not government property
00:56by off the OFWs.
00:58He stated that the process of returning the boxes has already begun.
01:01The Senate Committee on Local Government opened deliberations on a proposed Magda Carta for Barangay,
01:08a key priority bill identified by the Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council.
01:14The bill aims to enhance the welfare, capacity, and role of barangay officials
01:18in delivering basic services to their communities.
01:21Committee chairperson, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, emphasized the importance of collaboration
01:26between national and local government in driving inclusive development.
01:31Several versions of the Magda Carta were discussed, focusing on improving benefits,
01:36regularizing barangay officials, and guaranteeing essential services like healthcare,
01:41education, and access to clean water.
01:43Less than 12 hours after the shocking discovery of the bodies of Hollywood film director Rob Reiner
01:49and wife Michelle Singers inside their homes in the upscale neighboring of Brentwood in West
01:54Los Angeles, Los Angeles Police Department detectives take in Rob Reiner's son Nick
01:59into custody and declare him responsible for the fatal stabbings of his dad and stepmother.
02:05Their daughter, Rami, 28, was the first to see her parents dead and sprawled on the floor
02:11Sunday afternoon, then rang 911 for emergency response well after nightfall.
02:16LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested at a quarter past nine in the evening
02:23near the University of Southern California campus on suspicion of homicide or murder charges.
02:29Bail has been set at four million U.S. dollars.
02:33Family and close friends claim Nick and his dad Rob had a heated argument
02:37during a Saturday night Christmas party in Conan O'Brien's home.
02:41News of the stabbing deaths of Rob and Michelle Reiner sent shockwaves throughout Hollywood
02:46and the political establishment in Washington, D.C., where bitter U.S. President Donald Trump
02:52weighed in with a rather nasty and unprecedented remark on Reiner's deaths,
02:57saying he was not a fan of Reiner, and his death was a result of his allegedly
03:02incurable affliction of Trump derangement syndrome, or TDS.
03:06Reiner, a staunch liberal who supported climate change action and same-sex marriage,
03:11was a close friend of the Clintons and Barack Obama, whom he campaigned for.
03:16Reiner is fondly remembered for his unforgettable role as Mike Meathead,
03:21Sivich, and the iconic sitcom All in the Family, a landmark TV show that touched on dicey social issues
03:27of racism and homosexuality, among others.
03:30He is also touted as a legendary film director for such cultural touchstones like Stand By Me,
03:37The Princess Bride, Wolfman of Wall Street, A Few Good Men, and the celebrated comedy When Harry Met Sally.
03:45That brings us to the end of the line for tonight's newscast.
03:48We'll be back tomorrow ready with more breaking headlines and stories making waves across the nation and beyond.
03:54This has been nice for Tina's Colin Kit and I, and thanks for letting us be part of your evening.
