00:00Hey, welcome to Truck U. As you can see, they finally let me out of the shop for once this year.
00:18It's like he's out of the cage, man. You know, this is good. We're going to have a great time
00:22out here this week. I don't know what the attendance numbers are looking at, but they're
00:26going to use an area. I'm sure you can, Mr. Forensic. 160,000 people will be here. Over
00:315 million square feet of exhibit space. We've got countries represented from 140 different
00:35countries. I mean, there are just gobs and gobs of people out here to see you. I think
00:39that's the draw. How do you know all those numbers? Like, how do you store them? Just
00:43rack them up, baby. It's very amazing. When me, I'm just out here because I want to see
00:47cool stuff and I want to show it to you guys, but we've got to split up, dude. Divide and
00:50conquer. That's the only way we're going to get it done in the time we've got to work with.
00:53You know what? We said it before. We probably don't say it enough. Got a long way to go
00:57in a short time to get there. Oh, I could never hear that enough. Yes. All right, man. I'll
01:01see you in a little bit. All right, brother. Peace. There are a lot of big trucks out here
01:04at SEMA this year, and that does my heart good. But when I see a truck like this, it
01:07makes me feel at home. This was actually built recently by a good buddy, my name, Bobby Brown
01:12with heavy metal fabrication out of Florida. He builds trucks like this, builds them even
01:16bigger than this. He is a Trucks Gone Wild Hall of Famer, by the way. Thought I would throw
01:19that in there. But this truck was built to abuse. You will see this on the tug of war
01:24pad. You'll see it in five or six feet deep of mud. And that is what we love about it.
01:29And it doesn't have tweaked out driveline angles or anything like that. Everything about this
01:33truck is perfect. And it's practical. SEMA is known as the place for the big reveal. Well,
01:39our friends at Bestop are doing just that behind me. This is the new two-door Bronco E-Top.
01:44You might be familiar with Bestop for just about any other vehicle, as well as the four-door version
01:48we showed you guys earlier in the year. The reason we work with these guys is the best
01:52product possible. Now, this is something that is new to the marketplace. The first people
01:56there are doing a fully-powered convertible soft top for these two-door Broncos. You know,
02:00if you want to go from open air to a closed air environment, it's simply as easy as this.
02:06So if you're a person who, you know, wants to be able to have, you know, the best of both
02:09worlds and don't want to have to mess with, you know, mechanical levers and locks, this is the
02:14perfect option. As you can see, it's just that easy. Now, when it comes to the soft top, it's
02:19something you need to keep in mind is once you put an E-Top on a Bronco, you never need to take
02:23it off. You don't need to have the hard top for the winter. This is an all-season top. It's got
02:27nine layers and triple insulated. So where you're in it, in a closed air environment, you've got the
02:31same protection, the same sound quality as you would with the hard top as it rolls off the factory
02:36floor. But now you literally have the best of both worlds.
02:39Thanks. It's always cool to see a truck out here that we had in the shop not too long ago. In this
02:45case, it's the KYB Tundra. But Andy, I got to tell you, we did a couple things to that that are now
02:51missing. And I think you've got some explaining to do, right? What happened? Well, you know,
02:56we put the KYB 2000 series on the truck. You guys put those on there. And we got to use them,
03:02you know, they're made for off-road. So we did a lot of testing in the desert before we released
03:08these things. A lot of research out in the California desert. Of course, they were engineered
03:12in Japan. So last weekend, we brought some of our executives from Japan over and showed them what
03:18they made. Now that sounds fun. It was really fun. And yeah, we beat the trucks up a little bit,
03:24but the shocks were great. So Andy, why was the KYB 2000 the perfect fit for the Tundra?
03:29Well, the nice thing about the KYB 2000, it's a heavy duty performance shock. It's got a two and a
03:35half inch shock body. But the nice thing about it is it's really, really gives a great on-road ride.
03:41And then once in the desert, that's where it really shines. And do me a favor. If you guys take
03:45that thing back out, let me know ahead of time. And I might want to go for a ride or something.
03:50Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Well, we're coming out with some more applications pretty soon.
03:55So yeah, believe me, we'll take you on a ride next time. Sounds good to me, man.
03:59All right. Sounds good. This is the El General Humvee. Now it started life in the 2009 actual
04:06military Humvee vehicle. Well, it's been transformed to a race-inspired, apocalyptic
04:11six-by-six vehicle that is truly just awesome. Now, if you look at the design in this thing,
04:15the engine, it's a mid-engine design. So you know it's going to corner like a dream. It's
04:20going to have a ton of power because it's got a 6.9 liter Hemi Hellcat engine in this thing.
04:25On the back of it, to keep the power to the ground and kind of keep this thing from flying,
04:28you've got actually a real military aircraft wing that's been modified and cut down to kind
04:33of fit the back of the vehicle. Now, when you get inside of it, you figure, well, you want
04:36to have some modern luxuries, right? Well, it's got all those as well because you can actually
04:40start this thing and stop it with your smartphone. A smartphone app on a vehicle like this, man,
04:45it is kind of like really the best of all worlds. So what do you get when you take a 2012 Ford
04:50Raptor, right? There's the Raptor. Then throw on a Shelby supercharger on the engine. You've got
04:57a Shelby interior on the inside as well. And then over the top of it all, you drop on a
05:021965 Ford crew cab. You get this. Probably one of the most unique vehicles out here this week
05:08out at SEMA. Stuff like this is what catches my attention. We need to go to break right now,
05:11but we'll be back with more awesome stuff right after this.
05:27Welcome back to Truck U. So out here at SEMA, it's all about concept vehicles, new builds,
05:32debuts, all that. And here's another one. My son actually called me just a minute ago and he's like,
05:36hey, did you see that new Toyota side-by-side? I was like, no, I hadn't seen that yet. I said,
05:40but we're near Toyota booth. So we're going to come over here and check it out. And this is it.
05:44It's called the Scion 01 concept, right? It's pretty cool to see what the guys will do at a
05:50company like Toyota when they go, hey, why don't we just take some of the elements of like some of
05:55the trucks and everything that we have, mainly the Tacoma, and put it into a side-by-side. So I dig it.
06:00It's got a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, right? Makes 300 horsepower. But here's the thing.
06:04It's a hybrid. So it's got an all-silent electric mode. Toyota is solving all the world's problems.
06:10This thing is pretty awesome. It's going to be very interesting to see if it goes into mass production.
06:16Hanging out with our buddy Jeremy Bumpus out here at SEMA. Dude, you've got a lot going on, man.
06:20Yeah, man. I'm tired right now. You know, it's been months of just thrashing to get here,
06:25you know, a few builds here. It's been a lot of work, but a lot of fun.
06:27All right. Tell us a little about this 1949 pickup truck. My understanding was a logging truck.
06:31It was literally twisted to all hell when you got it. Yeah, dude, it was so bad. So original owner truck,
06:36the couple that own the truck now, her dad had bought it new. So he used it as a log truck.
06:40This thing was literally twisted up when we got it. So we went through and built it about 15,
06:4516 years ago. Okay. And made a pretty cool truck. We did an S10 chassis. It had nice paint. You know,
06:50it was the whole deal. They went around and did the show circuit. And we're like, you know,
06:53ready to take it up a notch. Let's go to the next step. So you did a whole rebuild on that truck.
06:57A whole rebuild, new chassis under the truck, big meets, wheels and tires, you know, getting it low
07:02like I like them. So a lot of fab in this thing though, which was really cool. Tell me about the
07:06bumper. That's pretty cool. Yeah. So this back here started all as a piece of flat sheet metal. I mean,
07:09we were like, what are we going to do? So we kind of sketched something up on a notepad and we kind
07:13of had the idea running around of like a 70 split bumper Camaro. Like that'd be cool. We haven't seen
07:17that on a truck. So that's basically what we did back here. How many hours would you say you've got it on the
07:22second? Oh, Josh. So in a year's time, I'm going to say it was seven days a week every day for that
07:27year. Well, that's not the only vehicle you've got here. You've actually got two others. Am I right?
07:31Yes. We've got a 92 OBS four-door truck. It's called Crew Sled. We flamed it out, went through it,
07:37LS powered, lays rocker. So it's on the ground, you know, low. Right. And then a little different,
07:42we've got a 35 Hudson Terraplane, which is a four-door sedan car that's fully modified back half on the
07:50ground. Really cool. Well, this truck is in Battle of the Builders. It's one of the cars competing here
07:55this week. And you know, for more on those Battle of Builders vehicles, Matt, it ran over to their
07:59booth. Check it out. One of the cool things that goes on out here at the SEMA show is the Battle of
08:05the Builders. Now, this is something that everybody wants to win. There are some incredible vehicles put
08:09together in this area. And here's the thing. If you win this, you beat the best of the best in the
08:14industry and you can carry those bragging rights with you for the rest of your life. It's absolutely
08:18awesome. But there's something else going on too, because any event like this, it's always the
08:22older generation is going, man, are there enough young people coming in? It's that who's going to
08:26fill their shoes kind of question, right? And the answer this week is a resounding yes. And this is
08:31an example of that. This was built in the Young Guns division, which is builders up to the age of 29.
08:37Rockford Custom Paint and Auto did all the work on this truck. So what this is, is the world's first
08:43square body that is all made of aftermarket parts. The only thing original on this thing on the
08:48frame rails, right? Everything else is all aftermarket. I'm talking about the metal, the glass,
08:53the steering wheel, everything. And that is good news because back at the shop, you know, we get
08:56some of these drug in. We always joke around about my buddy, Mike, drags them out of the ocean and
09:00you're looking at it. You're like, oh, this is going to be a lot of work. Well, now you can get the
09:05square body look with all aftermarket parts. So you could have basically a brand new truck that looks
09:10period correct, which is awesome. So we'll see what happens in the battle of the builders. But I think
09:15this one has got to be in the running. It's a beautiful truck.
09:19You know, one of the hot vehicles out here at SEMA this year is the new Land Cruisers,
09:22right? They came out in 2024. This happens to be a 2025. The thing is, when you've got a vehicle
09:27coming back into the marketplace, it takes a while for the aftermarket to catch up in terms of getting
09:32parts and pieces. So this one's been lifted about three, three and a half inches. And one of the
09:35things a lot of people don't realize is that when you put bigger wheels and tires like this on,
09:39you need new TPMS sensors or to at least get those rescan for the vehicle.
09:43Well, happy to be with Scott here from Bar Check. And that's what is the biggest misconception that
09:47people have with the wheel and tires when it comes to this? Well, sometimes they forget about
09:51they only know the TPMS sensors exist. So you have to have sensors in the wheels and they got to be
09:57programmed to the car. You know, you guys have kind of been on the forefront of this. You've been in
10:00this industry for 20 years. How has that all evolved? It's changed quite a bit. You know,
10:05we started out in the OE plants way back when. And from that, the technology has gotten faster.
10:10It's gotten better. We've been at the forefront of some really cool market-first technology.
10:15But it's really, at the end, it's all about making this easier for technicians to use
10:19and to do builds like this. So for the end consumer, it's a matter of, hey,
10:22if the TPMS sensor comes on, put air in the tire. But if it comes on flashing, you've got a problem.
10:27A hundred percent. If that's a flashing light, that means you've got a problem with the system.
10:30Probably a bad sensor, but there are other things in the system that could go wrong.
10:34That's where you want to seek a professional to do diagnostic work.
10:37And also for them, when you go and get wheels and tires, you know, everyone's always worried
10:40about going to and to get any kind of work done on their vehicle that someone's going to try and
10:43upsell them. What they often forget is that the vehicle has a safety system, a TPMS,
10:48and you have to keep that safety system functional. So the way to do that, if you're putting an
10:52alternative set of wheels on a car, is you put in an alternative set of sensors programmed into the
10:57car and everything works the way it's supposed to. So the device you've got in your hand right now,
11:01what does that do? So this is a Tech 600 Pro. And what this is, it's a diagnostic tool. What you need to be able to do on
11:06vehicles that have TPMS is figure out what might the problem be. Check diagnostic codes, test the
11:12sensors before you actually work on the vehicle. Once you figure out what's wrong, you use this
11:16tool to program sensors, program the vehicle, complete the relearn. So it's an essential part
11:21of a diagnostic. A whole lot of technology going into a very little part that is keeping you safe
11:26on the road. Pretty cool stuff for the guys at Bartek. You know, one of the things I love about SEMA is the
11:31absolute disregard for practicality. You've got massively lifted trucks, but there's some other
11:35things that really kind of strike a chord because when it comes to a point where 12 turbos isn't
11:39enough, well, somebody decided 17 will get the job done. And you know what? Why not? That's what
11:45SEMA is all about. We've got more coming up after the break. Catch up in just a minute.
12:01Hey, welcome back to Truck U here at the SEMA show. I've shown you guys outside the big bad lifted
12:10trucks. You've got the 6x6s with the LSs that are supercharged at the hood. Well, this
12:16is the polar opposite. Look at this 66 C10 pickup truck. Now this is from the guys at Legacy EV,
12:22and actually it is the owner's vehicle. It's his personal car. Rob built this thing for himself. It
12:27was supposed to be a shop truck, and it had a couple different variations of engines underneath
12:31the hood. It had a big block and then went to a small block. And as the business grew, well,
12:35headed to the side going, I need to go the electric route. Now the thing is, it stays true to Rob the
12:39owner's feel. He likes the low rider slam truck. Ta-da. He's got that. He's got the 100 spoke date
12:45wheels. He's got that. It's got all the cool low rider looks, but more power than you could imagine
12:50out of any small block. Gasoline electric. Either way, it's kind of cool. We've been working with
12:55Stinger a lot here at the shop lately, and now here they are all set up out here at SEMA. And you guys
13:00have got a lot of things going on, Don. And these are all Bronco specific right here anyway, right?
13:05Yeah, that's correct. So we have a bunch of different products in this Bronco. We've got a
13:09screen replacement that upgrades from an 8 or 12 inch screen to a massive 15 inch screen. It's like a big
13:15screen TV in there. It controls all of the audio. It controls the lighting, the switches, and as well
13:20as the integrated 360 camera. You've got that cool mirror up there too. We haven't put one of those in
13:24yet. Yeah, so that's a digital rear view mirror. It's new this year for us. It not only gives you
13:28a DVR out the front, but a DVR out the rear and a digital rear view. It also actually controls all of
13:35the lighting inside of the vehicle as well. And then the lights are new, right? Yes, the lights are new. So
13:39this is a new product for us this year, and it is 100% integrated with the cam bus of the vehicle.
13:45So if I hit my turn signal, it turns on the flashing lights to show that I'm turning that way.
13:49Yep. All SAE approved. So it's good for on-road or off-road use. Thanks, man. That's the Bronco stuff.
13:55Let's go check out some more. Kevin, walk me through this again, because this is lovely. Okay,
14:00so this is our new multi-function display. So what we do is we talk to the data network inside the vehicle.
14:06We're going to allow you to see your battery voltage, your engine performance, fuel level, etc.
14:13And you can control the display and everything. You can control it all from the touch of a glove
14:17as well, which is really important. That's a big deal. Yeah. This is IPX rated. You can get mud,
14:21sand, water, dust, dirt. You can hose it down when you're done at the end of the day.
14:26Very cool, man. And then we've got camera systems that show all four corners of the car.
14:30You can select them. And under speed, you can also select them under steering wheel input that
14:36they'll come on right and left like a rear view mirror. The side-by-side world has just exploded
14:40and gone crazy. And this is just another cool thing that Stinger is bringing to the table for
14:45those guys, man. Thank you. We've seen some awesome things from Stinger as far as the displays and the
14:50controls go. I have a feeling like this is where you guys actually have fun. Yeah, this is the party
14:54side of the Stinger and audio control. Tell me what's going on here. These are pro audio style
15:00drivers, which means they're super efficient. They get really loud. They're made to travel long
15:05distance. So this is really the party pack back there. And then on the inside right here is where
15:10the boom is. Behind this is the massive box with 18 12-inch subwoofers. That'll do it. All based
15:16around our Epicenter and the new Epicenter Pro, which has a bunch of new features. And it's all controlled
15:22with that display up on the front. Yeah, it's got the 12-inch Stinger radio in the vertical
15:27configuration in this car. Yeah, that thing looks awesome. It really does look good. Man, I love it.
15:31Things are looking good for Stinger. I can't wait to see, you know, I can't wait to put another system
15:34in a vehicle in the shop. Awesome. Maybe something like this next time. I don't know. So the projected
15:39attendance out here this week, they said, is about 160,000 people, right? They come in from all over the
15:43world. You've got gearheads and motorheads that are young and old. Then there's some dudes running around
15:48in suits. Those are the sales guys, right? They're running around trying to put deals together.
15:52You know how that is. Oh, then there's these guys, right? You see these, you know,
15:55these guys all day, you see these guys. They're the influencers and they want to get
15:59hits on their social media. That's fine. I respect all that. But right here,
16:02these are my people right here at the bar. All right. Cracking beers since eight o'clock in the
16:07morning. That's right. You know what I mean? Walking around. No plan. Don't have to be anywhere
16:11at any certain time. I say that out of jealousy. And we need to go to break right now. But when we come
16:17back, hopefully I will have been through this line. All right. We don't start in the morning.
16:21We're out here at Seymour. I want to check out the Seymour booth. You know, these guys are,
16:41you know, we use them all the time, right? From the 2K coatings we do on their truck beds to
16:45the Colorbond products. So I got with Rodion to talk about what you guys are all about. It's a
16:49family-run business. Yes. In 1949, our founder, Edward Seymour, invented aerosol spray paint.
16:55That's really cool to hear. Yeah. It's, you know, that invention spawned this global industry and
17:01really changed the way the world paints. Well, for you guys, though, it's not about
17:05entry-level stuff. It's professional quality that you guys are actually making it accessible to
17:09the DIYers as well. Yeah. And that's exactly our motto. So we're trusted by pros and made for
17:14everyone, right? Because it's all about the convenience out of an aerosol. It's really a great
17:19great product from a convenience standpoint, from a quality standpoint, performance standpoint.
17:25And that's really been our thing. We focused in the hardcore industrial market. And we've always
17:31had an automotive division. And just recently, we're trying to elevate our own brand and invest
17:37in that brand awareness. Right. Because I know you guys do a ton of private label stuff as well,
17:40but also big news coming this week from you guys, and that is your new latest invention. Yeah,
17:45absolutely. You know, 75 years ago, we had a great innovation. We want to continue that legacy of
17:50innovation. We're still a family run business made in America. And we want to change the way the world
17:56paints again, 75 years later. So this is our brand new auto flow spray gun system. So it's inverted.
18:03That's the whole trick to it, right? Absolutely. The advantage to that is what? Well, it makes an
18:07HVLP style spray gun. Okay. So the ergonomics is there, the feel, the two button trigger system.
18:14It's weighted properly. So it's a much better flow. And it's really designed for those small repair
18:19jobs that you don't need to necessarily bring a vehicle into a spray booth, take out your HVLP gun,
18:26no more cleaning up when you're just trying to fix a quarter. But you're also to get a professional
18:31level result. Exactly. Yeah, that's the key. You know, so if you guys are looking to do any kind
18:35of project, big or small, make sure you check out the guys at Seymour because they have a solution
18:39for you. Ben, I really appreciate your time here today, buddy. Thanks for having a good one.
18:44This show is so big. It's impossible to see everything out here. It's impossible to learn
18:48every little detail about every vehicle as well. But I was just saying to the guys about two hours
18:53ago today, I said, I want to see a slammed semi truck, right? And that's not exactly what this is,
18:58but it's close enough. You know why? Because I love tandem axles. Absolutely love them. I've also
19:03learned this week out here, I've got an affection for cool fenders. I never knew that. I just
19:07discovered that today. These fenders go almost all the way around. They go all the way down in the
19:11back. Absolutely beautiful. They're going to keep everything nice and clean. Then when you get up close,
19:15it was like the guy was putting on a welding class when he built this thing. Absolutely beautiful.
19:20So you take a look at that through the interior, up to the engine. That's all color matched as well.
19:25You stick your head in here. Smells like a brand new vehicle. Then you get up here to the engine.
19:30You could eat off of any one of the square inches on this engine. It is so clean and so pretty. Now,
19:34my favorite part about the whole truck, you're going to think I'm a little bit crazy, but they left
19:38some of the scars right there. All the work they did on this thing, they could have changed that out. I
19:43absolutely love the fact that they didn't because I'm sure somewhere there's a pretty good story for all that.
19:51What's old is new again here at SEMA, and you know what? This is a perfect example of it. A
19:56beautiful creation by the guys from Vintage Dream Machines. It's a 1946 four-door power wagon. What
20:02makes the 1946 four-door power wagon so special? Because they didn't make one. These vehicles
20:07were built as a two-door back in the day, and that means these guys had to do a ton, a ton of work.
20:13Underneath the hood, you've got a 5.9 liter 24 valve Cummins engine that puts out almost 390 horsepower
20:19with a tuner well over 400 horsepower. And from the powder coated finish from the top to bottom,
20:24basically, underside this truck is as nice as it is on top of the truck. Now, to go into the interior,
20:29it has got every luxury item you could possibly want. You walk up to it, when you've got the key
20:33fob in your pocket, it unlocks the doors. So if you want a Rolls or a Mercedes, it's got all those
20:38same features, but in the coolness of a 46 power wagon. So I've been trying to get a hold of Matt for
20:44literally two days. When this guy said, hey, we're going to divide and conquer, he wasn't playing.
20:48I just hope he got his stuff done, because this has been a wild last couple days here at SEMA.
20:53You know, the thing is, we're starting to run out of time here on Truck U, and I can't close
20:56a show without my guy. That would just be weird, right? Oh, speak of the devil. Hold on.
21:02Hey, Matt. Matt. How you doing, buddy? Wait, wait. Where are you? Oh, um, the beach. Yes. My bad. I didn't
21:10tell you about that. I had to do a Truck Snow Wild cruise. You're on a cruise? Yes. Is that Julie
21:15with you? Oh, Julie? Yeah. She's right there. We're good. Did you get everything you needed to
21:19done? Absolutely. You did a great job on the show. Well, I know, but you can hit me with all
21:23compliments you want. You're still going to owe me for this one. Look, close that show out, dude.
21:28All right. Well, Matt's having a good time, and we actually had a pretty good time here at SEMA,
21:31but fortunately, I'm stuck here, and he's having a mic tie right now. Well, that's all the time we
21:36got for Truck U. See you guys next time.
