Wagga mayor Dallas Tout addresses the media after a decision to rename Michael Slater Oval at Bolton Park to Sally Shipard Oval, recognising Wagga’s only home-grown soccer player to have represented Australia.

00:00It's a very emotive issue so I think a lot of it can be put down to that we did

00:06take the step a while ago to remove the name that was there and it's just been

00:13as oval number three since but we've reached the point now that the decision

00:17was made which I'm really happy that we got to that point last night and also

00:23that it was carried unanimously unanimously by councillors so it's very

00:29exciting and we're looking forward to the official naming ceremony I think it's

00:36scheduled in January so very exciting exactly it's great to have Sally have the

00:42naming after her because of her career but also her personal journey and I know

00:48she grew up in Wagga and she did all the most of her football so there's a

00:59whole there's a regional link to it as well it is great that at the end result we

01:04have a female athlete it's fantastic because the number of numbers in female

01:13sports and it was growing that much so it's great to have someone who did so

01:17well in her career to be representative of that community and to have the

01:22be able to maintain that before
